Pregnant Caroline Danjuma, a former Nollywood actress who took some time off to grow her family, is having a baby girl!

It is her third child with husband Musa Danjuma and the excited Caroline has revealed her baby's gender through the pink-themed baby shower party she threw for friends at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Lagos. Congrats to her!

Governor-Elect Ayo Fayose Looking Victorious at Government House Meeting With Fayemi

Ayo Fayose, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has been officially returned as the winner the gubernatorial elections held in Ekiti State, Nigeria, by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Incumbent Governor, Fayemi conceded defeat saying,

I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme.

The two men have already met at the Ekiti State Government House in Ado-Ekiti to begin the process of transition. Ayo Fayose, the new Governor-Elect, will be inaugurated as Governor on Oct 16 2014. Fayose had previously been the governor of the state between 2003 and 2006. Congrats to him for clinching the seat once again.

Below is the full text of Fayemi's concession speech:


"Yesterday, Ekiti State decided. Following the gubernatorial elections held in the land of honour, Ekiti State, Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially returned the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.

If indeed this is the will of the Ekiti People, I stand in deference to your will. If the result of the elections is an expression of the voice of our people, we must all heed your voice.

I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme.

It has been a hard fought election. As expected, in the course of the campaigns, there were unsavory episodes as the candidates toured the nooks and crannies of the state to sell ourselves to the people. Elections tend to be highly divisive affairs that often see brother rising against brother. Despite our diverse party affiliations, and regardless of which way we voted on Saturday, we must remember that we are all sons and daughters of Ekiti State. Ekiti is ours to build together.

On our part, over the course of the campaigns, we presented our scorecards before the people of Ekiti State. We never at any point took your support for granted. We campaigned, we canvassed and we traversed the nooks and crannies of this State. Our performance and achievements in office will remain the backdrop against which the next government and indeed future governments will be assessed. We are proud that with the support of Ekiti people, we have raised the bar of excellence in governance. In all, we gave our best, for conscience and for posterity.

Indeed a new sociology of the Ekiti people may have evolved. However, the task of understanding how the outcome of this election has defined us as a people will be that of scholars. For us as an administration and a cadre of political leaders in Ekiti State, we have fought a good fight, we have kept faith.

To members of our party, our campaign team and indeed all Ekiti people who defied the siege on our state to cast their votes for our party, I salute your exemplary courage and doggedness in the face of harassment. Thank you for staying the course. The incidences of brazen harassment, intimidation and allied infractions on fundamental humanrights, which many of you suffered in the hands of agents of the state, would be documented and communicated to the appropriate authorities, for the records."

Pope Francis Excommunicates Italian Mafia Members in a Public Mass

Pope Francis has outrightly challenged the Italian Mafia members, saying that they are excommunicated from the Catholic Church. This is the first time a Pope has spoken of excommunication for the Mafia. The Pope spoke during an outdoor Mass with a crowd of over 100,000 in Calabria, Italy on Saturday.

"Those who in their life have gone along the evil ways, as in the case of the mafia, they are not with God, they are excommunicated. They must be told, No!"

Earlier in his one-day visit, Pope Francis had "met with relatives of a 3-year-old boy, Nicola Campolongo, who was the victim of an alleged Mafia hit in January. Nicknamed Coco, the boy was with his grandfather when they were both shot and their bodies subsequently burned in a car."

Thereafter, the Pope denounced the local mafia, called 'Ndrangheta [an international crime organization with an annual turnover of $72 billion from cocaine trade], as an example of "the adoration of evil and contempt for the common good."

This is not the first time Pope Francis has spoken out against the Mafia, in March in Rome at a meeting with families of victims, the Pope called directly on Mafia bosses to repent, saying;

"hell ... awaits you if you continue on this road."

In southern Italy, the Mafia are known to attempt to portray themselves as upstanding religious men in good rapport with the Catholic Church, in order to maintain local credibility. So the pope's remarks are very welcome.

However, some anti-mafia prosecutors are worried the Mafia may target Pope Francis. Nicola Gratteri, a prosecutor in Calabria, told CNN.

"The strong will of Pope Francis, aiming to disrupt the gangrene power centers, puts him at risk. He disturbs the Mafia very much." 

Katie Couric Marries John Molner in Her Backyard Garden - Photos

Katie Couric married her fiance now husband John Molner in her backyard in New York this Saturday. Katie and John got engaged in September 2013 after nearly two years of dating.

The new bride tweeted the picture above with the caption, "So excited to make my debut as Mrs. John Molner!" For her dress, Katie opted for an ivory halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo,

Last week, the journalist had revealed the wedding would be holding in her Hamptons home, sharing a picture of the flower garden below on Instagram with the caption, "The garden is ready for the big day one week from today! (Gulp!)".

Katie has been married before and has two daughters, Ellie and Carrie, and husband John also has two children, Allie and Henry, from a previous marriage. Katie is 57 and John is 51.

Katie's first husband, Jay Monahan died from colon cancer in 1998, after barely 10 years of marriage. Ellie, 22 and Carrie, 17 were little girls then, and Katie brought them up as a single mother since.

Katie opened up about being a single mom in an interview with More, sharing her desire to spend life with a partner.

"It's actually surprising to me that it has been almost 15 years, and I haven't remarried. I think life is more fun when you have someone in your life. And I always wanted to find a father figure for my daughters, but it hasn't worked out that way." 

Well, she got her heart's wish. Congratulations, Katie and John!

Gospel Singer Sinach Weds Pastor Joseph - All The Traditional Wedding Pictures

Gospel singer Osinachi Kalu - popularly known as Sinach - married Christ Embassy's Pastor Joseph today in Ebonyi state. The traditional weddding ceremony had lots of friends and family members in attendance. There was also a local dance group to entertain the guests.

Sinach and Pastor Joe would be having their white wedding on Saturday the 28th of June 2014 in Lagos and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome would be joining the couple together himself. Congrats to the new couple!

South African CEO Receives Wife As Gift From Traditional Rulers - Faces Probe

South African Broadcasting Corporation CEO Hlaudi Motsoeneng was given a wife, a cow, and a calf as gifts by Traditional Venda chiefs during his visit to their area.

About 10 bare-breasted women were lined up in Tho hoyandou, Limpopo, last Wednesday, and Motsoeneng was asked to choose one. He picked 22-year-old Vanessa Mutswari, a human resources management student shown smiling and standing bare-breasted in above picture, next to her new husband and the cow and calf.

Motsoeneng told the Sowetan he received the gifts because he was "committed to his job and understands the strategic objectives of the SABC".




However, Motsoeneng is now the subject of a complaint lodged with the Commission for Gender Equality under the women's ministry. Spokeswoman Kenosi Machepa for the ministry said the complaint was welcome, and the gift of the wife, under the guise of tradition and culture by a lobby group called Mudzi wa Vhurereli ha Vhavenda, was regrettable.

"As the department responsible for the championing of the rights of women, we cannot sit back and allow women to be treated like secondary citizens with no acclaim to human rights. The use of women as gifts as if they were livestock is a serious regress and an insult to the gains of 20 years of democracy and freedom, particularly the contribution of wo men. Cultural and traditional practices are part of South Africa's rich heritage, but should not be abused to advance personal interests." 

This kind of news has me scratching my head. The young lady looks so happy and fulfilled, so I ask myself why I should be vexing. But seriously, how can this be happening in 2014?

So Sad - Dad Killed by Stray Bullet as New Baby is Welcomed Home From Hospital

A proud new dad, gathered with family members to celebrate the homecoming of his 3-day-old baby was killed by a stray bullet last Tuesday. The bullet came from a neighbor's gun, a convicted felon who had been drinking.

This story is so incredibly sad. Due to one man being irresponsible and careless with his gun, another man not only lost his life, but his child will grow up without a father.

Steven Justin Ayers, 33, of Panama City, Fla., was hit in the back of the head by the bullet and died instantly. Police said the bullet came from a 9 mm that traveled through the neighbor's screen window, through woods and through the sliding glass door of the Ayer's home.

I know many don't like to hear this, but there's a problem with gun ownership in America. So many people have guns in their home who should not and who cannot take proper care of it and keep it safe. So many times we hear of these accidental deaths, and it just breaks your heart.

Police arrested Charles Edward Shisler, 62, who was uncooperative and "extremely belligerent," the arrest report said.  Shisler said he picked up the gun by the trigger and it fired accidentally. Shisler faces charges of manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm.

When children are the ones that shoot, I might be lenient, but for this poor man, I think the neighbor should do time. What do you think?

Models and High Heels Do Not Go Together on The Runway

I have blogged before that when it comes to shoes, high heels are my weakness. My shoe collection is embarrassing sometimes - like when the janitor came to fix our water pump which is in our closet, right beehind my stack of shoes, most of them high heel shoes, and I mean HIGH HEEL.

While I love how elegant and sexy those six-inchers make you feel, there is a time I think women should keep those heels more moderate. And I think that is when models are walking fashion pieces down the runway. These models are already 6ft tall and above, what do they need such high heels for?

Many compilations have been made showing models falling off their high heels on runways. It can't be easy walking like a cat when you're a human being, and that with people staring so closely at you.


The videos are funny though you can't help but pity the young girls too. But what baffles me is how the other models keep such straight faces and keep walking as their mates are falling? Very few reach out a hand to help, and in some cases, they all fall down too. LOL...

Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square are currently in Niger Republic and have taken time out of their busy schedule to donate provisions to underprivileged children in the famine-ravaged country.

I wonder why the brothers chose Niger than some other charity in Nigeria, but maybe these children are more in need. And like Paul who shared the pictures on Instagram wrote,"Givers never lack". He also tagged the pictures as #nigerrepublic #socialresponsibility #donations

Juliet Ibrahim Says Her Marriage Ended Years Ago Following "Forgive Me" Video From IK Ogbonna

Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim confirmed today that her marriage to Kwadwo Safo has been over for years! This announcement is coming a day after a video emerged of Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna declaring his love for Juliet Ibrahim in a video which he put on Youtube and then deleted.

Back in March, Juliet and her husband had responded to separation rumours, each insisting that they were still together.

However, for several months, speculations that they were dating had continued to swirl around Juliet and IK Ogbonna as she spent more and more of her time in Nigeria. Juliet and IK Ogbonna were both spotted together on several occassions including her birthday, and he was her date at the BON award ceremony last December [see here]. IK Ogbonna also starred in her music video titled Traffic Jam.

Yesterday, IK posted a video on Youtube asking Juliet to forgive him and stay with him in a manner that seemed to suggest they were lovers. The video was removed almost immediately but not before some fast fans of the actor and several bloggers had got screen grabs of it. It was made up of photos of them together and private shots he had captioned for her. He added the description;

"When u realize u are only human … And ur mistakes shouldn't define u but build u. I am sorry is not just a word .. It's a realization that brings alive a new creation if it's meant." 




The video is probably a confirmation that the two are dating, and Juliet wants to use the opportunity to come clean about her marital status.

According to Ghana Celebrities, Juliet Ibrahim had found it hard to let her fans know that her marriage had ended a long time ago because she wanted to protect her child.

Juliet Ibrahim and ex-husband Kwadwo Safo have been blessed with a baby boy and even though their marriage did not go as planned due 'irreconcilable differences', the two have agreed to stay in close contact for the benefit of the child.

We've spoken to Juliet Ibrahim on several occasions in relation to this and we've respected her decision to keep the divorce on the low—-so that the two involved would not be distracted from their responsibilities towards the child they have together as parents…

Sandwiched between making her fans aware of the breakup and protecting the interest of her child, Juliet has for some time now kept mute on the issue in order to ensure that her son does not suffer in anyway from the break up.

However, Juliet Ibrahim has found it necessary to let her fans know today that, she is no more married to Kwadwo Safo—and the marriage ended some time ago.
