Free Date Idea This Weekend - Book Reading With Author Ayo Sogunro

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 01:57 PM PDT

You may recognise Ayo Sogunro's name from the rebuttal to the article by Sani Abacha's son trying to justify his late father's award at the Nigeria Centenary. Then Ayo also protested for the release of @ciaxon, the guy who tweeted pictures of the attempted Boko Haram jail break at SS Headquarters, Aso Rock.

Yes, Ayo is an activist like that, and his books are part of his activism. You can hear him read from his first, The Wonderful Life of Senator Boniface—and other Sorry Tales, this Saturday at Terra Kulture in Lagos.

About the book;
"The Wonderful Life of Senator Boniface—and other Sorry Tales" is a collection of twelve, short stories of a contemporary nature which explore several facets of human nature in general and Nigerian modern life in particular. The stories are written on two levels: (i) a literal and direct story directed at entertaining the everyday reader; and (ii) a symbolic philosophy intended to stimulate intellectual thought.

Though diverse in plot, the stories are collectively woven around a centralised theme featuring twin ideas of death as a final resolution of life's problems and human behaviour under unexpected changes in circumstances.

Each story is also preceded by an original poem which attempts to sum up the theme in the subsequent story. The stories and the verses are complementary and are meant to be taken together.

Sorry Tales was given a Honourable Mention at the 2013 London Book Festival, and has been listed as one of the top 15 Nigerian Books of 2013 by the Channels TV Book Club

The Terra Kulture Monthly Book Reading is always a platform to interact with your favourite authors, network and make new friends. Don't miss this.
