A landlord who damaged one of the eyes of his tenants will know his fate tomorrow at the Ejigbo Magistrates' Court, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The court will tomorrow sentence the landlord, Rasaki Elegbede, who pleaded guilty to the offence of damaging his tenant's eye during a fight.
The police in the charge sheet accused him of using an object to hit one of the eyes of his tenant, Alfa Fatai Adekola, during a fight over payment of electricity bill.
Adekola's left eye was damaged and doctors confirmed that he cannot see with the eye again.
The victim told the police in his statement that his eye was damaged beyond treatment by the accused during a disagreement over electricity bill.
The incident happened at 15, Adelaja Ojo Street, Egbe in Ikotun, Lagos.
Elegbede was arrested and charged before the court where he pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of assault, wounding and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace under the Criminal Code. The presiding magistrate, Mr P. E Nwaka ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri Prisons, pending his sentencing tomorrow.
In his statement to the police, the accused admitted collecting money from the tenants to pay the electricity bill but did not pay before their light was disconnected by PHCN officials.
A protest by the aggrieved tenants led to a fight during which the accused used a heavy object to hit Adekola in the eye. When Elegbede was arraigned in court on Monday, he pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for leniency. He told the court that he had already given the victim N20,000 out of the N65,000 needed for his treatment.
The court found him guilty as charged and adjourned till 4 December, 2013 for sentencing.

Chris Brown 'sued for N500Million by Frank Ocean's cousin for causing pain and suffering' during parking lot Clash!

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 08:32 AM PST

Chris Brown is allegedly being sued for $3 million after a parking lot brawl with Frank Ocean earlier this year.
According to TMZ, Ocean's cousin Sha'Keir Duarte has filed legal documents accusing the rapper of causing 'pain and suffering' after the incident in January.
Duarte claims he was injured when a fight erupted between Brown and Ocean's entourages in January outside Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles.
According to the website, Duarte - who filed the lawsuit in August - itemised his list of damages in the court documents.
He allocated $1,000,000 for pain, suffering and inconvenience, $1,000,000 for emotional distress, and a further $1,000,000 for punitive damages.
Finally, Duarte listed $60,000 for medical expenses.
Meanwhile, Brown, 24, countersued Duarte last month, accusing him of instigating the fight by pushing, kicking and punching the singer and threatening to kill him, according to TMZ.
Brown is seeking unspecified damages.
The incident happened when Brown left the recording studio where he had been listening to one of the artists he represents.
The fight is said to have involved six men.
According to TMZ, Ocean claimed Brown punched him.
But sources close to Brown told the website that he went to leave the studio but 'was blocked by Frank Ocean and his crew.'
This is not the first time the two singers have been involved in conflict.
Last July, Brown was forced to deny aiming a homophobic slur towards Ocean when asked his opinion on the star.
He denied making the comments on his Twitter page, posting: 'My Opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is ......... Love who u wanna love. It's ur decision. People stop searching for BS.'
Ocean came out as gay in a post on his blog last year.
Meanwhile, Brown is currently undergoing a court ordered 90-day stint at a live-in rehabilitation centre to focus on his anger issues.

A policewoman committed suicide after writing a text to a male colleague thanking him for a 'wonderful' date - but accidentally sent it to her husband, an inquest heard.
PC Gail Crocker, 46, met a fellow officer while her husband Peter, 49, was away from their home near St Austell, Cornwall, on a business trip in London.
Later that evening the mother of two typed a message on her mobile saying: 'Thank you for a wonderful evening. Only wish we could do this more often'.

But Mrs Crocker sent it to her husband of 30 years by mistake, an inquest in Truro was told.
He came home and she admitted to having a 'one-off' rendezvous with a male colleague but insisted it had never happened before.
The couple rowed, and the next day Mrs Crocker called in sick from work and drove to a lane two-and-a-half miles away from her home in the village of St Stephen.  She took an overdose and was later found dead in her car on 15 June.

Mr Crocker, of St Stephen, Cornwall, told the inquest his wife had begged him for forgiveness when he got back from his trip.
He said: 'I got out [of the car] and she was in floods of tears saying she was sorry. She told me it was a one-off and she had never done it before.

Mr Crocker told the hearing they rowed the following morning, saying: 'She went on and on again. My work phone rang. I was so angry I slammed it into the ground.

Gail Crocker, 46, committed suicide after sending a text meant for a man she had dated to her husband
After going to the supermarket to buy a replacement phone, Mr Crocker arrived home later that day to find his wife and her car had gone.
Mr Crocker contacted her sergeant at Bodmin Police Station who told him she had called in sick for her shift that afternoon.
He said: 'I didn't sleep at all. I didn't hear from Gail during the night.'
The following morning David Rendell and his wife, close friends of the Crockers, spotted Mrs Crocker's car in the car park at Lanjeth, a nearby village, and called her husband.

Mr Crocker discovered his wife's body in the boot next to an empty bottle of tablets, which the pathologist said caused her death, and suicide notes written to him and daughters Chloe, 22 and Gemma, 25.
Mrs Crocker, who met her husband in Plymouth when she was 15 and he was 17, first trained as a PCSO in Truro in 2003 and became a police constable in 2007.
Mr Crocker added in his statement: 'She was a people person - she would speak to anyone about anything. Being a PCSO was her perfect job.

'She was my life.  We had plans.  Nothing was worth her taking her life.  I'm lost without her.'
  - Paul Crocker, 49

'She was my life. We had plans. Nothing was worth her taking her life. I'm lost without her.'
The unnamed colleague with whom Mrs Crocker spent the evening was not required to give evidence or named at the inquest.
Returning a verdict of suicide, Coroner for Cornwall Emma Carlyon told the hearing she was satisfied that Mrs Crocker's death resulted from a deliberate act to take her own life.
At the time of her death colleagues paid tribute to the 'excellent' police officer who was based in Truro and later Bodmin.
Sector inspector Robin Hogg said: 'I have known Gail for several years and will always remember her as an excellent officer with a bright, happy and positive disposition.'
'Gail leaves a husband and two daughters who miss her deeply and are very proud of the role she carried out in the community.'

A man who was jailed for 10 years for having sex with a female goat came face-to-face with his victim in a Kenyan court.
The goat watched quietly from the corner of the court room in Malindi while Katana Kitsao Gona, 28, was jailed for bestiality.
According to Jimmy Kimaru, chief prosecutor, Gona was caught sexually assaulting the goat in a bush in Dabaso, Kilifi county, on November 25.

The goat had been tied to graze by its owner, Sarah Kadenge, for the afternoon.
But when a passer-by went to relieve himself in the bush he was shocked to discover Gona
having sex with the animal.
The man reported what he had seen to the goat's owner who cornered Gona and took him to Watamu Police Station.
Following a medical examination carried out by Munga Gambo, a veterinary officer from Malindi, it was confirmed that the goat had been sexually abused.

[PHOTOS] VIEWER DISCRETION: MOTHER FROM HELL BURNS DAUGHTER WITH HOT CLOTHING IRON!

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 06:46 AM PST

Blessing
A woman, identified simply as Mrs. Maxwell, has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting her daughter, Blessing, with a hot pressing iron.
Blessing, a primary three student of the Lagos Model Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja GRA, was allegedly assaulted last Monday by her mother for licking the baby's food.

NE gathered that the incident came to light after a neighbour, who lived within the Police College Barracks, Ikeja, with the Maxwells, allegedly called the authorities of the LMNPS to complain about Blessing's condition. Blessing's father is said to be a police corporal.
A source within the school, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, "It was last Friday that we got the anonymous call. At the time, two of Blessing's younger siblings were in school, so we called them aside and asked after Blessing.

"At first, they were both scared that they would get into trouble with their mother if they told the truth but they eventually opened up and said their mother had used a hot pressing iron on Blessing."

The Head Teacher of the school, accompanied by some other employees of the school, was said to have visited Blessing at home.

It was learnt that on arriving at the Maxwells' house, Blessing was seen sitting outside their flat, sporting burn marks all over her body.

The source said, "We tried to question Blessing about what happened to her, but she was scared of her mother. Eventually, we went into the house and confronted the mother, but she lied that hot water had mistakenly poured on Blessing.

"When we asked if Blessing had received medical attention for her injuries, her mother got annoyed and dragged Blessing into the house. She then refused to answer more questions. Since it was a police barracks, we thought it wise to leave quietly before things got out of hand.

"The most painful aspect of the whole issue is that despite Blessing's wounds, their neighbour told us that she had been carrying out house chores like before. From what I saw, that girl is so injured that I didn't expect that she would be able to come to school for the rest of the term. Not one of us guessed that she was being abused at home."

It was gathered that both mother and child were picked up by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation after the school authorities alerted the ministry. Blessing was said to have been picked up by a Lagos State Ambulance Service bus.

When our correspondent contacted the Child Director, WAPA, Mrs. Fadairo, she said, "I cannot talk at this time. We are at the hospital and Blessing is in critical condition."

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, could not be reached for comment.

Nollywood veteran Actor Segun Arinze’s Ex; Ann Njemanze Reveals Her New Husband Is Younger Than Her!

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 06:15 AM PST

Its cool the way our men now see there's no big deal in marrying a woman who is older and the women have now accepted it. It's a trend which has come to stay. Check out Ann's interview with Leadership Newspaper  where she talked about her new husband, and her 16-year old daughter she had with Segun Arinze. Enjoy!

What really happened in your previous marriage?

I cannot tell what exactly happened but you see I remember when I was still in secondary school, I
use to gather my friends in Gboko Benue State telling them that my bed will be made of iron and look like the ones we see in magazines and what have you. I had a queen thing in my head. But my ex was a lot older.
He did not really give me all those sweet things that I fantasized about. I left my ex-lover because of the differences we had, at a time I found out I could not continue with the relationship so I had to opt out.

Your husband seems so young and fresh, he's younger than you are obviously?

Ah, yes he is, with few years. My husband and I do not share up to 5 years difference and he is not bothered about it.

Has he ever been married before?

No, he's never been married, no way. This is his last marriage in Jesus name. He is the only son of his parents too from Edo State.

Do you regret your first marriage?

Regret it? My daughter is taller and finer than I am. She is the headgirl of her school. In less than 2 weeks, she is going for a photo shoot. At 16, she has started earning money. She is writing for a magazine and you ask if I regret it? I thank him (Segun Arinze)!! Without him I would not have met my Silver.

Are you not afraid that your marriage might crash again?

No! I reject it. We have our differences, just like other couples do, but it is not enough to say, we no do again. Before we got married, we told ourselves that divorce and separation are no option.

Ex-ASUU President, Professor Iyayi: Murdered Or Died In An Accident? PHOTOS Of Bullet Holes?

Posted: 04 Dec 2013 07:12 AM PST

•Iyayi: Chest showing a big hole
•Iyayi: Chest showing a big hole

The nature of two holes on the late Professor Festus Iyayi's body gives life to suspicions by his colleagues that he may have been shot
Along with grief, anger will be the dominant emotion when Professor Festus Iyayi is buried this week in his hometown, Ugbegun in Edo State. The two feelings have mixed, predictably with unsavoury outcomes, since the former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, died on 12 November in an auto accident on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway. Iyayi was travelling to Kano in the company of three other ASUU members for a meeting on the ongoing strike by members of the union when a police escort van in the convoy of the Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State rammed into the bus the university teachers were travelling. Iyayi died instantly, while three his colleagues were seriously injured.
Wada, who was severely injured in an accident involving his convoy last year, was widely criticised by ASUU and the wider public for his failure to learn from his own experience and for allegedly failing to stop to assist the victims.

The escort vehicle was said to have veered off from its lane to hit the bus bearing the ASUU members, a claim the Kogi State government denied.
The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, called for an official inquiry into Iyayi's death and urged the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, to curb the recklessness of official convoys.
The FRSC also got a slice of the criticisms, following an accusation that it was shielding the driver of the vehicle that smashed into the bus conveying Iyayi and his colleagues.
One week after, ASUU dismissed the view that Iyayi's death was accidental and forcefully contested the official claim that his heart was pierced by a strange object at the accident scene. The association pointedly blamed the death on the government and "its agents". In a statement issued by the University of Benin chapter of the union, ASUU said Iyayi  did not die in an accident, but  was "wilfully" murdered. The union said it will demand concrete answers from the government for the alleged murder. It demanded that an autopsy be performed on Iyayi's corpse and warned government officials to stay away from the burial.
"His burial should not be an avenue for government officials to score cheap political points, as we will resist any state involvement in the burial," the union raved. Civil society groups in Edo State also demanded an inquiry into Iyayi's death.
Was Iyayi murdered? ASUU believes it has what constitutes prima facie evidence to support its suspicion. Members of the union point to two holes, one in the chest and another in the back, as offering a less than complicated indication that Iyayi was shot. Photographs of Iyayi's corpse obtained by this magazine, show holes that look like entry and exit bullet holes.
The Joint Action Front, JAF, a coalition of labour organisations, accused the government of masterminding Iyayi's murder. A statement signed by its president, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, said the circumstances of Iyayi's death are questionable.
The group believes that Iyayi was allegedly murdered to destabilise ASUU.
"We strongly believe that the assassination of Comrade Iyayi was carried out by expert shooters in the cover of the Nigerian intelligence, reminiscent of the state murder of Dele Giwa in 1986 and Kudirat Abiola in 1996," the statement said.

Another on his back
Another on his back
JAF also alleged that the statement of Dr. Paul Amodu of the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja, where Iyayi was rushed to, did not adequately explain the piercing of Iyayi's heart by a strange object.
Dr. Sylvester Akhaine, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Lagos, is similarly persuaded. Akhaine alleged that the accident was invented as a cover for the murder because ASUU's struggles have made the government hot under the collar. He argued that there was nothing at the accident scene that could have drilled holes in Iyayi's body. When told the coroner's inquest did not support his claims, Akhaine retorted: "The coroner's report is not the result of an autopsy. Until an autopsy is done, you cannot say anything to the contrary."
Writing in THE NATION, Dr. Ropo Sekoni, a retired teacher of Comparative Literature, branded as incompetent Amodu's claim that the piercing of Iyayi's heart must have been responsible for his death. "What is this medical talk designed to achieve, a science-driven identification of etiology of death? Did Dr. Amodu's observations derive from the result of a post-mortem examination?" Shekoni asked.
Dr. Ngozi Ilo and Dr. Sunny Iyalo, ASUU National Welfare Officer and  Zonal Coordinator respectively, who travelled with the deceased, also disputed the claim that a metal object at the scene of the accident was responsible for the holes on Iyayi's body.
But how closely do the holes on Iyayi's body resemble those made by bullets, especially given that the one on the chest looks big? A retired army colonel told TheNEWS that the holes have a high degree of consistency with those made by bullets. "There is a 70 per cent probability that the man was murdered and 30 per cent that it was an accident," he said. If it was an accident, he argued, the impact would have caused a squeeze, not neatly drilled holes. He explained that a close-range shot from a pistol would cause the bullet to enter an object, as it allegedly did Iyayi, and exit through the back. "The big hole in the chest shows that it was a pistol. This is because the wound a pistol creates is bigger at the entrance and smaller at the exit. But if it was a Kalashnikov (AK47), it would be smaller at the entrance and bigger at the exit," he further explained. The retired officer added that AK47 bullets gather momentum as they hit target, unlike pistol bullets, which create bigger impact at the point of entry.
"There is the possibility of shooting in the confusion of the accident or that the accident could have been contrived to cover up shots,"  the retired colonel told this magazine.
But did any of the survivors hear a shot before or after the crash? Not exactly, but they are not ruling out the possibility that a gun may have gone off on account of the impact created by the collision. This is because in all likelihood, the vehicle responsible for the accident had heavily armed passengers. "I heard the two vehicles collide. But given that it was a police vehicle, it is possible that, as we usually notice, cops in the escort vehicles of governors are always armed. So, anything could have happened on impact," reasoned Anthony Monye-Emima, Chairman, University of Benin ASUU branch. If that was what happened, could Iyayi's death be described as anything but accidental? Obviously not.
Lawyer and former university teacher, Professor Itse Sagay, urged caution. Sagay, who was sacked alongside Iyayi from the University of Benin by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida in 1987, said: "Nobody can pinpoint exactly what was responsible for the injury (the hole in the chest), which I believe killed him. There was no piece of iron or sharp-edged object found that could have done it. I believe the only solution to the problem is to have a very thorough autopsy to determine the cause of death and from there, one can then begin to build on what possibly could be responsible for his death."
Sagay added that since there is no doubt that Iyayi's death was caused by somebody in Governor Wada's convoy, a case of murder or at the minimum, manslaughter, could be established.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, ascribed Iyayi's death to criminal negligence and executive recklessness. Abdulwaheed Omar, NLC President, said the organisation will petition the National Human Rights Commission should the federal and Kogi State governments refuse to take responsibility for Iyayi's death.
