WONDERS! Man With Three Wives Sentenced To Death By Stoning For Impregnating Sister! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 12:06 PM PST Upper Sharia court in Bauchi has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Umar Mohammed Kandahar to death by stoning, for impregnating his younger sister. The court records, made available to journalists on Wednesday in Bauchi , showed that Umar was arraigned before Upper Sharia Court Unguwar Jaki, by the Bauchi State Shari'ah Commission, where he was accused of impregnating his younger sister from the same father. Counsel to the Shariah Commission, Barrister Dayyabu Ayuba, told the court that the suspect is married with three wives, but forcefully had sex with his younger sister. According to Ayuba, the younger sister was brought to his house by their father to help take her to school, but instead, he forced her and had sexual intercourse with her, when she was 16 years old. The act resulted in pregnancy and she has already delivered a baby, contrary to section 136(1) of the Bauchi State Penal code law 2001. When asked by the presiding Shariah court judge, the accused pleaded guilty, but disagreed that he forced her to have sexual intercourse; instead he maintained that she accepted to have a sex with him. The Shariah Court Judge, Musa Barde sentenced him to death by stoning. Meanwhile, the accused, has filed an appeal against the judgment before the Bauchi State Sharia Court of Appeal, arguing that he did not agree with the judgment. Counsel to Umar, Barrister Sadiq Abubakar on Wednesday, filed a motion before Bauchi State High court number seven, asking for the bail of the accused, pending the determination of his appeal by the Sharia Court of appeal. He told the court that the accused family suffered because of his detention since 2011 and asked the court to release him on bail, to ease the sufferings of his family. The Presiding Judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman, has fixed Monday, November 25, 2013, for mentioning of the appeal. |

STRANGE! Goat Delivers Human-Like baby in Ekiti State! [PHOTOS] Posted: 27 Nov 2013 12:04 PM PST ![]() The sleepy town of Ogotu-Ekiti in Ekiti SouthWest Local Government Area was on Tuesday thrown into confusion when information filtered that a goat had delivered a human-like baby goat. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident, which occurred in Lori Oke settlement, a village that is about 10 kilometres from Ogotun town, drew the attention of hundreds of residents and travellers. The spokesman of the community, Sunday Ogunmeji, who spoke with NAN correspondent on behalf of the Baale (community head), Ganiyu Adetoun, said a pastor, Mr Daniel Odedele, helped to deliver the goat of the baby. "After watching the goat labour for several hours, the pastor took pity on it and courageously pulled the baby out, only for it to turn out to be human-like. "The `baby' had all the features of a human being such as human face, head, hair, female genitals, two legs and two arms with hoofs. "However, the human-like baby died at about noon as a result of lack of care as the crowd merely trooped there to watch rather than to attempt to save its life,'' Ogunmeji said. A resident, Mr Saidi Oladepo, who is a commercial motorcycle (Okada) operator, told NAN that immediately the goat delivered the `human-like baby', it took to its heels. He said that as soon as members of the community got wind of the incident, they ran helter-skelter in apparent confusion. He said alarm was raised and the local security agents, referred to as `Peace Corps', were alerted to the incident. Oladepo added that it took more than two hours to re-capture the goat in the bush. The traditional ruler of Ogotun-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Oyebode, could not be reached for comment as he was said to be in a meeting of the Traditional Council. (NAN) |
WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THIS? ''NIGERIANS SHOULD EXPECT NEW NAIRA NOTES BEFORE JUNE 2014'' - CBN! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 12:11 PM PST ![]() The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said that Nigerians should expect a new generation of naira notes before the second quarter of 2014. Deputy Governor, Operations, Mr Tunde Lemo, said the apex bank had earlier announced its decision to move the local currency from polymer back to paper, but disclosed that all the notes in circulation would not be withdrawn at the same time. "Nigerians will be having new generation notes in paper in the next few months. We will wait until the notes wear tear. When they wear, and they travel back to Central Bank, of course they will be re-issued," he stated. According to him, the life cycle of a note in Nigeria is between six months and a year and if CBN took that decision six months ago, "I reckon that in the next three to six months, you will begin to see these denominations re-appear in paper." He said that, the Central Bank would have started producing the lower denomination notes in paper by the middle of last year, but due to logistics challenges, the plan was not accomplished. "My plea is that Nigerians should be patient with us. It wasn't the fault of the CBN; it is just because we have to go back to the drawing board. We will correct that in the course of the year. Polymer certainly will be phased out. In fact, no new note is being printed in polymer now," said Lemo. On the scarcity of the lower denomination notes, Lemo blamed inflation and commercial banks for what he called "low transactionary value" and "poor circulation," respectively. "For the lower denomination, well, I think the banks are really the ones that are really not allowing the lower denomination in circulation, largely, because of the cost and carrying value. "Most people don't require small denomination. But for buying things in the market, if you look at the veracity, you find out that it is the people that are losing interest because of its bulkiness and inflation," he said. |

ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: "No salary Arrears, No Resumption'' – ASUU Threatens Federal Govt! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 10:05 AM PST ![]() The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it will not suspend its ongoing strike until the four months salaries owed its members are paid. The union also wants the immediate implementation of the N1.2tn offer by the Federal Government to public universities, starting with the release of N100bn this year. The balance of N1.1tn is to be spread over five years from 2014. These were some of the resolutions reached by members of the National Executive Council of the union who converged on Kano on Friday to deliberate on whether to call off the over four- month-old industrial action or not. A source, who was privy to the resolutions reached during the President Goodluck Jonathan – ASUU leadership meeting three weeks ago, told The PUNCH on Sunday, that the fresh demands were some of the issues to be tabled before Jonathan by the leadership during their next meeting. A date for the meeting is yet to be fixed. According to the source, a strong commitment to two demands, among other pending issues, must be obtained from the President before the industrial action will be called off by the union. He said, "The issue now is on trust and we do not want a situation where promises will not be kept. The authorities have failed us in the past and we do not want a repeat of that. "That was why we decided at the NEC meeting that the government should pay us the arrears of salaries being owed us since we started the strike on July1 before the strike can be called off. The salaries should not be paid piecemeal. "We also insist that the Federal Government should start the implementation of the offer made to us when we met the President some weeks ago. "For instance, the N100bn he (Jonathan) agreed to inject into the university system in 2013 should be released to the universities immediately. So, we decided that before the strike could be called off, these two conditions and others must be met not by promises but by real action." The NEC members, who met behind closed doors at the Bayero University, Kano, were said to have reviewed the reports of the various university congresses on the strike. Our source, who did not want his name in print, added that the death of a former National President of ASUU, Prof. Festus Iyayi, was discussed at the NEC meeting. Iyayi, a University of Benin lecturer, died in an auto accident involving the convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada and an ASUU vehicle, on his way to Kano for the meeting. The union's National Welfare Officer, Dr. Ngozi Ilo, was injured. Our source said the accident "almost led to the discontinuation of the ongoing negotiation with the Federal Government. He added, "Some members expressed the belief that he (Iyayi) was killed by the government and therefore argued that the ongoing negotiation should be called off. Tempers rose but some members argued that the President should be respected because he had created the record of being the first Nigerian leader to meet with the leadership of ASUU on the issue of making the nation's university system better. They also argued that students and parents should be considered." It was also learnt that after arguments for and against, about 60 per cent of the members of the NEC voted in favour of the discontinuation of the strike while the remaining 40 per cent voted no. But it was gathered that the NEC members unanimously agreed that before the strike could be called off, the leadership should ask the government to pay the four-month salary arrears being owed university teachers while the offer made by the government should be implemented immediately. A key component of the agreement reached by both ASUU and the Federal Government when the President led the government team was that government would inject N1.2tn into public universities. The government also agreed that the N1.2tn would be domiciled at the Central Bank of Nigeria to show its commitment to the agreement. The money is expected to be released on quarterly basis to the universities so that there won't be any problem about implementing the deal. The National Universities Commission and the Trade Union Congress will be the joint guarantors of the agreement while the Minister of Education will be the implementing officer. The government also agreed to revamp public universities by ensuring that all the issues that always lead to strike were dealt with once and for all. A majority of the chapters of the union had agreed to the suspension of the strike following the fresh commitment the leadership of ASUU obtained from the government. ASUU National President, Dr. Nassir Fagge, did not pick the several calls made to his telephone line by one of our correspondents on Sunday to confirm the fresh demands. The University of Lagos chapter ASUU Chairman, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka, and his counterpart in the Lagos State University, Dr. Adekunle Idris, also refused to divulge information on the outcome of the NEC meeting. ASUU had embarked on the strike to protest against the failure of the government to implement the agreement they signed in 2009. The pact largely centered on better funding of the universities, a declaration of a state of emergency in tertiary education, better wages and payment of earned allowances to lecturers. It had suspended the NEC meeting penultimate week following Iyayi's death. |

Benue State University student to die by hanging for armed robbery!! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 06:44 AM PST ![]() A Makurdi High Court on Tuesday sentenced, Jacob Atongo, a 100-level sociology student, Benue State University, to death by hanging for armed robbery. In his judgment, Justice Adam Onum, held that he was satisfied with the confession of the accused to the charges and therefore, found him guilty. Onum sentenced the accused to death by hanging, insisting that the sentence prescribed under the law for the offence must be followed. Atongo conspired with two others and robbed Stephen Akuma, and several others at gun point on June 26, 2012. The convict and his accomplices robbed Akuma of his Toyota Camry car with registration number Benue AID 39 AA and other victims of valuables, including various sums of money. He also attacked Judges' Quarters, Makurdi on July 3, 2012 and robbed no fewer than 15 people, dispossessing them of various items and money at gun point. The offences contravened the Robbery and Firearms Laws. During the proceedings, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and testified for himself along with one witness called by his counsel. Prosecution called seven witnesses and tendered several exhibits, which included two statements made by the convict to the police. In statements, according to the prosecution, the convict confessed to the commission of the offences. But counsel to the accused, Mr E.Z. Agbakor, argued that the prosecution failed to prove the case against his client beyond all reasonable doubt. Agbakor told the court that the accused did not make the statement tendered in court voluntarily, insisting his client was tortured and forced to confess to the offences. He submitted further that several "material inconsistencies and contradictions existed which cast reasonable doubt on the case of the prosecution''. The counsel pointed out that there was no identification parade conducted on the accused, and urged the court to discharge and acquit his client. On her part, Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Moji Sule, submitted that prosecution had established every charge against the accused based on the strength of his statements. Sule argued that there was no need for identification parade where the accused had identified himself with the commission of the crimes. (NAN) Vanguard |

SAD NEWS! 2 Nigerian Students drown in Volta river, Ghana! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 05:06 AM PST Two third year students from the Knustford University College, East Legon, Accra, have reportedly drowned in the Volta river. The deceased, Edward Alele 22 and Charles Honesty 20 all Nigerians, were part of about 200 students from the school who had travelled to Akosombo as part of activities marking the school's Students Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations. According to the National Disaster Management Orgnasition (NADMO) in Asuogyaman District, the students got drowned after a local canoe they had hired to cruise on the river capsized Friday, November 22 at about 2:15 pm. Lovejoy Dusi, District NADMO Coordinator for the area told Joy News that a group of five of the students allegedly contracted a local canoe owner to ferry them at a fee of GHs2 each, instead of a boat cruise for which they were being charged GHs10 each. Mr. Dusi said midway into the journey, the overloaded boat capsized resulting in the disaster. He said it took local fishermen hours to retrieve bodies of the deceased. The NADMO official said the boat which was mainly built to carry two passengers had six persons on board including the owner had no life jackets. The deceased bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra, for autopsy. |
Couple Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Killing Their Teenage Daughter & Servant! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 05:01 AM PST An Indian couple have been jailed for life for slitting the throats of their 13-year-old daughter and a servant after finding them in an "objectionable" situation. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were accused of killing teenager Aarushi and their domestic servant Hemraj at their New Delhi home in May 2008. After a long-running case that has gripped the country, the couple broke down in court yesterday after they were found guilty. Today the prosecutors had asked for the death penalty against the pair, who are both dentists and claim they are victims of police incompetence. The couple will appeal against the guilty verdict handed down by the same local court on Monday. Aarushi was found dead in her bedroom on May 16 2008, just a few days before her 14th birthday. The body of 45-year-old Hamraj, who had worked for the family for 10 years, was found on the roof of the house the following day. Both had had their throats cut, and been beaten with golf clubs. Early in the investigation, police alleged Rajesh had murdered Aarushi and Hemraj in a rage after finding them in a compromising situation. It was the kind of crime more often associated with rural parts of India where "honour killings" are not uncommon than with a successful, middle class family living near the capital - helping to explain the huge interest it has generated. The Talwars deny the murder and blame sensational media coverage for demonising them and damaging their defence. The Talwars' lawyers highlighted the lack of hard evidence. One of them, Rebecca John, told the CNN-IBN news channel: "This is nothing but a witch hunt." |
22yr-Old Man Stabs his alleged homos*xual boss to death In Self Defence Against Rape! Posted: 27 Nov 2013 04:39 AM PST According to the police, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death at his home on Ezemegbu Drive, Okota in August. The suspect, however, explained that he killed the deceased in self-defence. He alleged that on the day of the incident, Okoye had attempted to rape him. Explaining the events that culminated in Okoye's death, the suspect said he was a dancer and was lured to Lagos by a friend, Chukwudi, under the guise of doing music business only for the friend to introduce him to homos*xuality. He said he had gone to report the matter to his friend's boss but his friend's boss raped him twice and he reported the matter at the FESTAC Police Division. He said the matter was transferred to the Zone 2 Police Command and the case was turned against him after which he spent two weeks in detention. He said he had approached Okoye, who he considered an Igbo leader in the state, to help him with money to return to Anambra State when Okoye also attempted to rape him. He said, "I went along with a relative to report the matter to Okoye and he gave my friend and I N5,000 and shirts. He told us not to worry, so we slept over at his house. At midnight, however, Okoye came to my room and attempted to have s*x with me but I refused him. "My relative later told me that Okoye had s*x with him in the parlour that same night. We left in the morning and returned to Anambra State. From there, I went to Abuja where I remained for four months. However, one day, Okoye called me that he had a business deal and invited me to come to Lagos. "I told Okoye that I would not engage in any act of homos*xuality and he agreed." The suspect said when he returned to Lagos, the deceased said he wanted to open a bar in the area and wanted him to manage the business. He said he passed the night at the deceased's home, but at midnight, the deceased crept into his room and attempted to make love to him. He said, "In the evening, Okoye served me with bread, butter and tea in my room. Around 3.30am, he crept into my room and wanted to sleep with me, but I refused him. "Okoye was a big man so he attempted to overpower me, but I picked up the bread knife that was still left in the room and stabbed him in the neck, but he did not die. "I picked up a flexible iron and bound it round his neck and locked him inside the room. "When it was 6am, I stepped out of the house and gave the key to one woman beside the gate and fled." PUNCH Metro had reported on August 16, 2013, that Okoye was found murdered in his home two weeks after he was last seen by neighbours. It was learnt that following the discovery, the security guard and the woman whom the suspect handed the key to were arrested by detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. We learnt that after three months, detectives were able to locate the suspect in Anambra State. A police detective said, "The security guard told us that he could identify the suspect if he saw him. "In the course of investigation, we obtained call logs from Okoye's phone and we learnt that the suspect had used Okoye's phone to call his girlfriend in Anambra State shortly after killing Okoye. "We travelled to Anambra State and we were able to locate the suspect who was even wearing the deceased's clothes." The suspect, however, insisted that he was not a killer but a victim of circumstance. He said, "My father and my brother are dead. I am the only child of my mother. Who will take care of her if I am sent to prison? "I am not a homos*xual but I was used. I tried for several months to impregnate my girlfriend but was not successful. I feel they have stolen my virtues." Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed Emmanuel's arrest to our correspondent on the telephone. Braide added that the police were still working to establish it the the victim was a homos*xual or not as alleged by the suspect. |
Mysterious Healing River Appears in Enugu state! [PHOTOS] Posted: 27 Nov 2013 04:09 AM PST ![]() A river with healing powers mysteriously appeared in Nachi, a community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. Already named 'Orimiri Jordan' (River Jordan) it has become a Pilgrimage Centre, playing host to people from all parts of Nigeria. Countless testimonies abound as Nigerians struggle to dip themselves into the River. According to reports, it all started on the 11th day of November 2013 when a Fulani herdsman ran to the community and announced how water covered the place just few minutes after he passed. "He told us that he passed that place with his herd of cattle and soon after, heard a strange noise; when he turned back, he discovered that a big stream has appeared at the same place he just passed with his cattle. At that point, he ran to Garki and informed his relatives, who also came there and discovered that the water had healing power. From that point, the news spread to the community", a source disclosed. Speaking on the origin of the river, the traditional ruler of Nachi community, His Royal Highness, Igwe F.O Onuigbo, Obi II of Nachi, said that at his palace that the mystery River was older than him. He said "I used to pass through that area to attend school at Inyi-Achi in Oji River, in the early 40s. In those days, there is no water there, the only thing you see there is white sand. But once you get there and you are thirsty, all you need to do is to scratch the surface of the land and ask if for water, water will full your hand immediately if you are an upright person, but if you are evil, no water will come out. That has been the situation". Another octogenarian, Chief Festus Ude said "later, we noticed that after some years, the water will form a stream there and would disappear in few weeks. If such happens, we will be fetching water there. However, women who are menstruating and evil people don't go there. We never heard about healing power of the River until this recent appearance of the River. "The last time it appeared was in 1992, and at that time, it just formed a small stream, which later disappeared. It has never been as large as this. This is all I know, we have never known about its healing power, this is the first time we are hearing about healing, I don't whether it is true, we equally heard it like you". Commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called "Okada", photographers and petty traders, are already making business out of it. Right at the junction leading to the location of the "Jordan River", the visitor is presented with a scene of a busy motor park, where hawkers, food vendors, transporters and okada riders battle for customers. On the other side of the road, cans of various sizes are displayed for those who came empty handed. From that point, you park your vehicle, mount on Okada and the journey begins. According to motorcyclist, "I have a vulcanizing shop at the Nachi Market, but when this new business came, I had to close the shop temporarily so that I can also make money here. I hardly make N1000 a day there in my shop, but since I joined this Okada transport to the Enugu Jordan River, I make no less than N10, 000 every day. One of my friends called my attention to it, and I will forever be grateful to him". The okada operators charge their passengers fares ranging from N500 to N1000 depending on their bargaining power. On getting to the River, another business scene welcomes you. Here, apart from those hawking snacks, photographers are not left out. This presents the place as not just a miracle centre, but a tourist centre. While some of the visitors dip themselves or swim in the River, the photographers take shots, get the pictures ready immediately at the cost of N200 depending on the number of exposures. One of the photographers said that they make between N20, 000 to N40, 000 every day. "You can see that some people come for fun, not just in search of miracle but to see the mysterious River. So when such people come, they request for shots and it has really provided us with good business here. Sources disclosed that many visitors had testified to all forms of miracles after visiting the place. People of all ages, with all forms of ailments are being assisted by their relatives and friends to dip themselves into the River. A can seller at the entrance said "my house help was suffering from enlarged scrotum; we were trying to raise money to go to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital before a friend told me about this place. We brought the boy here and by the time we went home, he was fully healed, that was how I started selling empty cans here". ![]() "I heard about people who had difficulties in walking but they got healed after visiting this place; I also heard of people who regained their sight after visiting this place; I am just coming out from the River and I believed that I am free of any form of sickness and challenges". Meanwhile, the crowd of anxious Nigerians seeking for miraculous solutions to their problems has continued to surge into the River. Even security agents are not left behind as some of them were seen either with their water cans or aiding their loved ones into the River. However, the water is expected to also dry up any time in the same mysterious way as it came |
Posted: 26 Nov 2013 11:00 PM PST A 15 year-old boy named Kieran Obazee was shot and stabbed on Friday Nov. 22 at his east London home by gang members in what police believe may have been a case of mistaken identity, Daily Mail reports. Fortunately, Kieran survived the vicious attack and but is in a serious condition in hospital. Five men wearing balaclavas and armed with kives and a gun forced their way into the home in Plaistow just before 3am on Friday. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Detectives believe the attackers were looking for a member of a gang and attacked him by mistake. This morning a Scotland Yard spokesperson said: 'The person who may have been involved in a gang was staying at the address and they may have been the target, but the boy who was attacked had no criminal background.' The neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said: 'It was quiet on Thursday night, all I heard was the banging as they booted the door in and then another bang, but it didn't sound like a gun shot to me at the time.' The neighbour said they could see a woman banging on other neighbours' doors and screaing 'please help my son' when they looked into the street. Detectives believe the attackers were looking for a member of a gang and attacked the teenager by mistake 'I ran down and we went into their house, he was lying on the landing floor and there was a lot of blood on the carpet and on the wall. 'His mum and sister had wrapped his leg up to stop the bleeding, the people trying to help him were panicking so I took over. 'I kept him talking, he was going into shock and was really confused. He was bleeding a lot from his lower right calf and his sister was begging the paramedics to come quicker over the phone. Paramedics arrived at the scene before taking the teenager, the son of a biochemist, to hospital. The neighbour said: 'It felt like ages before the paramedics arrived, I was so scared that there was a 15-year-old boy who was bleeding out. 'Thank God he's ok, he seemed like a regular lad from a regular family, it's so shocking. 'They were just a normal, nice family, who kept themselves to themselves. I don't know why they would attack him, there's been no-one like that hanging around their house.' A police spokesman said: 'Police patrols have been increased in the area in order to provide reassurance to the local community.' The Trident Gang Crime Command are investigating the incident. |
