Mercy Nnadi Survives Her Husband's Attack With a Hot Iron and now Campaigns Against Domestic Violence

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 03:01 AM PST

Oma was able to get away but some women are not so lucky. Do you remember the story of Mercy Nnadi? Her husband, who was a washerman/drycleaner attacked her with his hot iron, especially around her breasts because during the attack, she begged to breastfeed her one-year old son. The man ended up killing that innocent baby the same night he tortured his wife.

You'll be asking, was the man mad or what? Well, he said 'voices' spoke to him, but he also believed his wife was sleeping with his own father, and her child was not his. Hmm... so messy. Read more here.

Thank God she escaped and survived, and with the help of several women's help organization was able to get some surgery to reduce the effects of the burns. She is now speaking out against domestic violence in conjunction with Project Alert. And Okechukwu Ofili has joined the conversation, here, and wants us all to do something about such domestic violence stories, asking;

Does it make you mad?
Does it make you upset?
Does it piss you off?

I am sure it does, you probably even want to ensure that her husband gets to die not by electrocution or hanging but by a hot iron pressed all over his body (idea credited to Ofili's evil side). But we know where that takes us…nowhere…just more violence. So what can we do?

1. Send an email to ngozi.ilondu@projectalertnig.org with the simple words "How Can I Help You?"
2. Make a donation to Project Alert Survivor's Fund | 1013113653 | Zenith Bank or via paypal at http://bit.ly/IvkhZg or with paypal email projectalert@projectalertnig.org
3. Can't make a donation, then tweet/facebook/instagram this article and help spread the word for the organization.
4. Lastly, I will personally match any donation made (up to N75,000 ($500)) this weekend.

Please if you can in any way, let's do this. Blog about it, talk to friends and family and also put your money where your mouth is. Donate to Project Alert.

Family Time - IK Osakioduwa and Wife Celebrate Son's Second Birthday

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 01:26 AM PST

The TV Host and Radio Presenter had this to say about the event, "Today is Micah's 2nd birthday. Not a big do, but nice all the same." Only two of the children in the picture are IK and his wife Olo's children, and when one commenter mentioned that he may not be so energetic and versatile if he had so many children, IK added, "I love kids, and they love me. I'm sure I'd be pretty much the same." That's cute to hear. RML wishes the family and Micah another great year!

At the Naija Hair Can Grow Salon Day and How my Hair was Tamed By Palm Oil and Honey

Posted: 29 Nov 2013 02:55 AM PST

After my 30hrs+ long journey from Seattle to Lagos, my hair felt so sticky, and it didn't help that it was due for a touch-up. So I went to a nearby salon and had them wash and blow dry it. The result was not very good, not only did the stylist add too much oily hair cream, she used the highest setting on the blow drier and brushed my hair like it was going out of fashion. I had to stop the proceedings when smoke started billowing from my hair #justhalfkidding :)

Anyway, if I had entertained doubts that I would attend Dabs of Naija Hair Can Grow's Salon Day Out, those flew out the window that day and I set my schedule and an alarm. Still in my American mentality, I got there almost right on time, we pulled in just as Dabs and her people. One person was before me though, she had the time wrong, and thought it was an hour earlier.

So it was a great outing. Berry Dakara, soon to bride, was there too and I met so many other amazing ladies. One says she reads my blog, I've forgotten your name, please forgive me, but if you're reading now, thanks for the shout out, and I appreciate you :)

The highlight of the event for me was not the gateau, though that was superbly sweet and has its own share of the few pounds I've already piled on. The highlight was not even Dabs texlaxing my hair and the sweet gist that flowed. [See pics] No, the highlight was after the relaxer was washed off and I got my hair steamed using a combination of cholesterol conditioner, palm oil and honey. Omo, see my sturrrborn hair was as soft as a feather!

Picture taken with Kelechi Amadi Obi about some hours later

I have used Cholsterol before so it's obviously not it. It's either the combination of Palm oil and honey, or one one of them. I intend to do some further research to prove this new theory I'm brewing. Palm Oil may just be my hair's magic bullet. Wow.

Enjoy some pictures from the event below,

Thanks to Dabs and the Salon ladies at L'Espace, it may have been a bit pricey, but the results made it worth it for me. So, if you're in Lagos and need some TLC for your hair, you may want to head on over to NHCG and check out when the next salon day is.
