Video of John and Love Kumuyi's Letter of Apology to the Church

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 06:02 PM PDT

I can just imagine the pressure mounted on John and Love Kumuyi from these stuck-in-the-mud church leaders to get to this point. I won't be surprised if the Lagos church fabricated the apology themselves so their cherished tradition can be upheld in the eyes of those they lead around by the nose. God help us all.

During a programme last weekend at one of the Deeper Life Churches in Lagos, the host pastor read out a letter of apology from John and Love Kumuyi addressed to the overall Church Secretary and directed to the church leadership and members, stating that they took full responsibility for any controversy arising out of their wedding. Read the full text of the letter and see the video (from 3.00) below.

June 22nd, 2013,
The Church Secretary,
Deeper Christain Life Ministry

LETTER OF APOLOGY

John and Love Kumuyi, write to express our deepest and most sincere apology for the turn of events, that have resulted on our traditional and wedding ceremonies, that took place in Jamaica on 13th June and 15th June, 2013 respectively.

We unreservedly and wholeheartedly state, that we did not intend that our acts or omissions will in any way undermine the great works that God has done through the Deeper Christian Life Ministry Worldwide and more specifically , through our Father in the Lord, the General Superintendent (GS).

We also use this medium to profusely and sincerely apologies to the general superintendent for the embarrassment and heartaches our actions have caused him, more so that he had earlier declined to be at the events.

We acknowledge that we may have been distracted by cultural differences, as both of us have been outside the country for the past two decades. This notwithstanding, we fully accept that having being nurtured, taught and brought up with the sound teaching of the word of God, we should have been able to draw the line, which we failed to do.

We have now realized the effects of our actions and omission and do plead with the church for forgiveness and also appealing that any action that should be taken be directed at John and Love, as we take this time to prayerfully reflect on our actions.

We take full responsibility for what happened, and this action should in no way be blamed on the GS, or the leaders of the church in Nigeria, United States, Jamaica or United Kingdom and beyond.

Yours Sincerely,

John and Love Kumuyi

Personally, I am of the opinion that Love Odih was very modestly dressed for a wedding occasion, and wish her and her husband only the very best of married life. I wrote the series of posts I did to help the conversation along online, hoping it would spark a similar conversation within the Deeper Life church about their heavily patriarchal stand on women's dressing, and how it could be affecting the morale of women and relationships in the church. When I listened to Pastor Kumuyi's video here on what is essential Christian principles and how traditions of men can be changed, I was heartened. But it seems even him can do nothing at this stage. The so-called church leaders have just made it clear by this 'apology' that they won't entertain any conversation.

Does it Really Matter Who Makes The Money in a Relationship?

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 11:39 AM PDT

One of the judges of Britain's Got Talent, Alesha Dixon announced last week that she was pregnant with Nigerian boyfriend, Azuka Ononye's child. Before then, their relationship had been private, and it seems for good reason too. Azuka is a dancer who comes from humble beginnings and still earns less than his star girlfriend. Like a lot less.

According to the UK Sun;
... the pair have been together for 3½ years and shared a close friendship for a long time before that. And far from being a fellow celebrity, Azuka, or AZ as he is known to pals, came from humble beginnings in Nigeria and has had to scrape a living for years.

When he was a teenager he moved to the UK for a better life with his two elder brothers. They raised him in a council flat in Fulham, West London — where he still lived until recently. It's a world away from the Hertfordshire mansion owned by Alesha, who earns £400,000 as a BGT judge and has other lucrative contracts.

Last night a close pal said: "She and AZ are perfect for each other and they are madly in love, but they couldn't have more different lives." AZ hates sponging off Alesha, 34, and insists on paying his own way, but the former singer with Noughties girl group Mis-Teeq has treated him to the high life. They have been on several expensive holidays to Miami and Europe.

Meanwhile, his pals have dubbed him the "Louis Vuitton man" because of the designer clothes she buys him. Our exclusive pictures show the couple at a 32nd birthday party Alesha arranged for AZ earlier this year. She booked The Crazy Bear Club in Beaconsfield, Bucks, and invited all his friends and family — splashing out thousands of pounds.

My question is, should this be news, and should it be so shocking that the girlfriend earns far more than her boyfriend, and that they both live a lifestyle more suited to her earnings?

As a woman, do you see yourself being the bigger, much bigger earner than your partner and supporting him? If you're a man, would you mind being a "Louis Vuitton man?"

Couple Love - Sound Sultan and Wife, Chichi

He was born Olanrewaju Fasasi but is better known by his music stage name, Sound Sultan. Sound Sultan and Chichi Morah, who was a Christian and Igbo, got married in 2009. Since Sound Sultan is a devout Muslim, Chichi converted to Islam after getting married and adopted the Islamic name "Farida". The couple have two children, and from these recent pictures, they are still enjoying their love. Sweet.

Flavour - Ada Ada [Music Video Romance]

Flavor N'Abania's Ada Ada is a wedding anthem, and the music video is shot like an Igbo traditional wedding. I'm a fan of Flavor, but this song is not my favorite though I like the lyrics. The video is also very clear and well put together. Enjoy!

Some Safety Tips For Women

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 03:05 AM PDT

These tips are supposed to be from the experts but all I could find was that it was posted by a crime alert FB page located out of South Africa sent to them as a chain mail. I wouldn't post it, except I see a lot of sense in some of the tips. There are pointers on what a woman could do if she feels unsafe in a lonely place like a lift or corridor, in a taxi, or in a garage. Read and share your thoughts.

1) What should a woman do if she finds herself alone in the company of a strange male as she prepares to enter a lift in a high-rise apartment late at night?

Experts Say: Enter the lift. If you need to reach the 13th floor, press all the buttons up to your destination. No one will dare attack you in a lift that stops on every floor.

2) What to do if a stranger tries to attack you when you are alone in your house, run into the kitchen.

Experts Say: You alone know where the chili powder and turmeric are kept. And where the knives and plates are. All these can be turned into deadly weapons. If nothing else, start throwing plates and utensils all over.

Let them break. Scream. Remember that noise is the greatest enemy of a molester. He does not want to be caught.

3} Taking an Auto or Taxi at Night.

Experts Say: Before getting into an auto at night, note down its registration number. Then use the mobile to call your family or friend and pass on the details to them in the language the driver understands .Even if no one answers your call, pretend you are in a conversation. The driver now knows someone has his details and he will be in serious trouble if anything goes wrong. He is now bound to take you home safe and sound. A potential attacker is now your de facto protector!

4}What if the driver turns into a street he is not supposed to – and you feel you are entering a danger zone?

Experts Say: Use the handle of your purse or your stole (dupatta) to wrap around his neck and pull him back. Within seconds, he will feel choked and helpless. In case you don't have a purse or stole just pull him back by his collar. The top button of his shirt would then do the same trick.

5} If you are stalked at night.

Expert Say: enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament. If it is night and shops are not open, go inside an ATM box. ATM centers always have security guards. They are also monitored by close circuit television. Fearing identification, no one will dare attack you.

In addition to all this, being mentally alert is the greatest weapon you can ever have.

Oba Erediuwa of Benin Celebrates 90th Birthday

The Oba's four wives and his first son

Among all the 200 and more of the various Nigerian cultures, the Benin Kingdom stands out as one of the oldest, longest surviving, and also most colorful. The monarch of Benin, Oba Erediuwa recently celebrated his 90th birthaday and his four wives were there to support him, as well as his children, the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole among others. The Oba himself was not able to make it to this particular event, and his first son represented him.
