Why I Prefer Dating White Guys To Nigerian Men –Nollywood Actress

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 01:17 PM PDT

Cynthia Agholor will tell anyone who cares to listen that she has been having a wonderful time in Nollywood even though she started acting as a child many years ago.  What has not been kind to her, as Cynthia is certain to tell you, is the media who have continued to spread negative stories about her.

Beautiful, busty and brainy, Cythia is a simple woman who will rather have a glass of wine instead of going all the way even with the man of her dream, out of wedlock. In this chat with Showtime Celebrity, she opens up on variety of scandals trailing her career and why she prefers dating a white guy to a black man.

Where did you grow up and what was it like growing up?
I grew up here in Lagos at Ebute Metta. Though I can't speak Yoruba fluently but I understand the language. I didn't get to mingle freely with Yoruba people because we lived on Herbert Macaulay Road where we don't have many Yorubas. I attended St. Jude Primary and Secondary Schools, in Ebute Metta. During my Secondary school days, I travelled to Aba to sojourn briefly with my aunty. I sat for my JSCE in Aba before returned to Lagos for my SSCE.

Within this period I have been into acting. Then as a child I was in "Tales By Moonlight", "Kiddies Vision 101". I have been doing all these kiddies stuffs with NTA since my Primary School days. The only period I had a break from acting was when I went to Aba to stay with my aunty. I also stopped acting for a while when I got an admission into Federal Polytecnic, Oko, in Anambra State.

When I was in Oko, I did a bit of modelling because modelling was a lot easier than acting. While acting takes you from one place to place, you can do modelling within the area you are based. After my education and the National Youth Service Corps in 2006, I came back to Lagos and since then, I have been doing one job or the other. Now, I am an actress and a producer.

There is a belief that some stars worked their way through; while others either slept their way through or simply got lucky. What worked for you?

Right now I wouldn't even call myself anything. Whatever happened to anyone in this life God must have allowed it to happen. I only thank God for taking me where I am today. When I was growing up in the industry I had friends that are now bigger than I am. Someone like Genevieve Nnaji, we all grew up together in the industry and we were like friends, moving around from one place to another, looking for jobs but today she is everywhere in the world. That is how God has decided to bless her. Because I am not like her today doesn't mean anything to me. To me, the way I am now is the way God wants me to be. Whatever anybody is in the industry; whether you worked your way, slept your way or got lucky it is the destiny God has fashioned for you.

One actress once told me that it is impossible to go through the industry without being sexually harassed. How true is that?

Yes, it is not exactly untrue but it all depends on how you conduct yourself. Sexual harassment is always there, not only in the movie industry but everywhere. Even though it is always there it is not a must that everyone must experience it. Maybe, she was unlucky to have met those randy producers and directors but there are decent people also.

In your own case, did you ever encounter such ugly incident?
Well, in those days when we were growing up in the industry there is no lady or young girl that would say she didn't encounter sexual harassment in one form or another.

Even me, I had my experience but I shrugged it off and made the person understand I didn't come into the industry for that. When the person wouldn't budge I left that production for another production where I knew they were decent people. Thank God, I met some decent producers and directors who featured me without harassing me.

As a well-endowed woman, would you say that has helped your career?
(Laughing) I really don't know but judging from some of the roles I have played it could be as a result of my endowment. Like the recent movie I did the producer actually wanted me to show off my boobs, he said to really compliment the role of a husband snatcher.

Even the one I'm doing right now in Ibadan I'm playing the role of a seductress. Anyway, most producers have featured me in roles that portrays me as a sexy character. But really I don't know, maybe if I'm not well-endowed they wouldn't have been starring me in such roles.

What do you really think enriches one as an actress, beauty and talent?
I will choose talent over beauty or appearance. There's no way you will look as a human being that you will not have a role to play. Regardless of your looks, if you are very talented they might create a role for you, from there you can be a big star. And I will not call appearance into it now and I will not say beauty because there are many beautiful girls out there who are not talented and they are just there, not making it. And there are some ladies who are disadvantaged by their looks but are making it because of their talents.

Have you ever had a romantic relationship within the industry?
No.

Why?
I just don't want to.

So, you have never been approached or what?

Of course, I have had several approaches but in the film industry where we are I see everybody as my brother. Maybe, it's a principle, I just don't want to date anybody within the industry.

There has been many scandals about you. How have they affected your career?

At first, when I started reading untrue, scandalous things about me, as a human being I was depressed. I would feel so bad that I would want to know the person who wrote the piece but at a point when I realised it wouldn't just stop , it just didn't bother me any more. I am who I am and whoever knows me know who I am. It has not affected my career in any way and I am consoled by the fact that God knows the truth.

There was a rumour some time ago that you fought with Cossy Orjiakor in public and got yourselves stripped?

That was a very big lie but then what do I do. I heard it but had to overlook it because that was a very big lie. Even at the end of the day, the person that wrote the story came to apologise to me. The journalist said she just wanted to make noise. For me, it's a bygone, I wouldn't do that with anyone let alone Cossy. Cossy is my friend. I never had a fight with even my enemy.

The report was trying to paint a picture that you and Cossy were in competition with each other over whose boobs are bigger and finer…

(laughing): I never knew that. I think I am hearing that for the first time. Cossy is my friend. We never quarrelled even during the time we lived together. At a time, she was staying with me and later moved into her own house. When some people see two people being friends they just imagine things and write stuffs about them. Me and Cossy are still friends till date.

Can you marry a married man like some of your colleagues in the industry are doing?

Oh, what a question! I wouldn't marry a married man because the man is married. I can only marry such a man if he is divorced. If the man is divorced he is no longer married, then I can marry him with or without children. There is nothing wrong in a man having children. If the person is nice and we are compatible, why not? I don't mind

So, what will attract you to a man?
First, the man has to be very humble, God-fearing and truthful. I don't see why two people in a relationship should lie to each other. I like people to always tell me the truth regardless of the situation. I think that is the major thing that attracts me to a man. I like surprises. Instead of telling me things to elevate yourself let me find out and be surprised. I love men who are humble.

What do you first consider before picking up a role?
The story. I love good story-lines. If the story is not so good I can call the producer and make suggestions because I am a writer too. If the person doesn't want to take corrections I could drop the script. I really love doing something very interesting. It is not all about money all the time, sometimes, it is just about giving people something to remember you by.

What's your idea of sex generally. How often should it be done?
I think sex is good when someone is married. You know, you do it without fear of committing a sin or committing adultery. Sex is something every couple , married couple, should do, probably, everyday, I don't know, probably every time they are moved to do it.

Sex has the real pleasure when you are doing it without any form of fear. I'm not saying unmarried people should not engage in sex because there is nothing I will say that will make them stop but somebody like me, every time I do it I always feel bad that I'm sinning against God. Even before sex I feel frigid because there is always that looming fear that I'm not doing what is right. That is for me, I don't know about any other person. If I'm married to the man then I will feel very free and enjoy it very well.

You and Elvis Lamptey, a Ghanaian producer, you are reportedly dating, what went wrong, they said you dumped him for another lover?
Yeah, I have never reacted to that story! Who will believe me if I say I don't know anybody called 'Elvis Lamptey'. I don't know how they came up with that, maybe because I went to Ghana to shoot a couple of films. Please, I don't know anyone by that name. The only Elvis I know is Elvis Chuks, a Nigerian director and actor. He has been my friend for years and there has never been any romantic involvement between us.

When I read the story online, I was shocked. The only Elvis I know I haven't seen for a long time. Even at that, I don't feature in his film because we don't even get to see each other. The last time, I saw him was at an event and he was like "Cynthia, where have you been all these years?". That day he introduced me to the girl he wanted to marry.

The report said you dumped the Elvis Lamptey for one Udofia Ugoo, who is a US based entertainment promoter…

(Cuts in): honestly, that is another big lie. I don't know anybody by that name too. What is bad about the whole thing is that I am in a big relationship and if the man doesn't know me very well, he might be thinking I am doing something else somewhere. It is not fair. It is very wrong for people to just concoct things that never happened and slam it online to tarnish your image and disturb your life. The only Udofia I know is Cornel, the publicist. I have never known any other person by that name.

You once dated a White guy and there was an interview where you said you regretted dating a White guy…

(Cuts in) that was years ago. Did I ever say I regretted dating the guy? That was a long time ago and now that I am more mature I will say White guys are better. For one, they wouldn't break your heart unnecessarily. If you want me to compare I will say White guys are better lovers because of their truthfulness.

What if we look at the difference between the two in bed. Which would you say is better?
(Laughing) oh, what a question! Well, it depends on how you go about it. A man is a man. I am not saying that Black men are not blessed naturally more than the whites. They seem to be more endowed but then it still depends on how you go about it. You can get whatever you want from the white man depending on how you go about it.

So, what are you working on now?
I am still working on a soap opera that will be finished soon. Five episodes have already been shot. Season one is already out, we are working on season two and three and we are planning to release them together. We are also planning another movie that will be screened in cinemas. I have a partner I am working with. Those are the ones I am doing on my own. I am also working with other producers on variety of jobs.

I was forced to charge an innocent man to court for murder- Police Corporal

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 01:11 PM PDT

Shock pervaded the quiet atmosphere of the Ebute Meta Magistrate's Court, Lagos, after an investigating police officer, Corporal Alagbe Olumide, admitted that he was forced to arraign a murder suspect, Ayodimeji Alegbeleye, for the crime he never committed.

Alegbeleye, 29, was being tried for the murder of one James Igbahan in January 2013 at Ajah.

The police had claimed that the accused stabbed Igbahan with knife in his left ribs which led to his death.
After the two counts were read to him, and he had pleaded not guilty, the prosecution lawyer filed application for his remand in prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

However, the defence counsel protested the application, saying the accused knew nothing about the crime.

The magistrate, Mrs. M.O Tanimola, thereafter summoned the police to give an account of what had transpired.

In his report to the court, Olumide said he was told to arraign the accused, adding that the investigation had shown that he was only a friend to the real suspect.

He said,
"My Lord, it was his friend that stabbed the deceased. The real offender is now at large.
"Alegbeleye was arraigned because we found him at the scene of the crime."The junior brother of the suspect had earlier been arrested, but the Ajah Police Division released him."
The magistrate further queried why the defendant was charged when he was not the suspect.

"The police authorities said I should charge him with murder. I told them that my investigation showed he was not part of it, but they insisted that I should charge him, and I didn't know what to do," he submitted.

Olumide said statements taken from the accused showed he had returned from his work and met the two men arguing over matters connected with cultism.

He said he then went out to take his bath and on returning, found the deceased in a pool of blood and
with knife wounds.

He said the police arrested him because he was a friend of the suspect.

The magistrate, in her ruling said since the accused was being punished for a crime he did not commit, there were no grounds for remand.

The case was subsequently struck out.

Pastor Says, My Wife Still Sees Her Ex

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 06:40 AM PDT

An Orile-Agege Customary Court in Lagos, yesterday, dissolved the 20-year-old marriage of a pastor, who had accused his wife of infidelity and threat to his life.

Pastor Sunday Owonikoko, 51, had filed a petition at the court on May 27, saying he could no longer continue with his wife, Bolajoko, 47.
Ruling in the case, court president, Mr Joseph Adewusi, said the marriage has broken down irretrievably.

His words: "Starting from today, you cease to be addressed as husband and wife; you shall go your separate ways and maintain the peace.

"The custody of the under-aged among the children is referred to Ikeja Family Court for final decision, but in the interim, the children should remain with the petitioner.

"The petitioner, Pastor Sunday Owonikoko, should pay a compensation fee of N25,000 to the defendant and also secure accommodation for her."

My wife still sees her ex
According to reports the pastor, who lives at 1, Alowole St., Papa Ashafa, Orile-Agege, had told the court that his wife was still seeing her ex-lovers.

"My wife once travelled to Ghana to meet one of her concubines. She did family planning without my consent and she goes out at will.

"She was suspended from the church for six months because she fought all ministers in the church. She then established her church, she fought all the members of the church, and they all left."

The father of four children, aged between 19 years and 11 years, had also told the court that his wife threatened to destroy him and the church.

"I want the court to dissolve the union and grant me custody of my children," he had said.

Bolajoko, an evangelist, had, however, denied the allegations in her response.

My husband is adulterous
She said: "My husband is adulterous. He has slept with almost all the sisters in the church. A mother of seven is presently living with him and he has made the woman an evangelist."

Bolajoko told the court that her husband had "lost his mind" since he ate vegetable soup in the house of one of the sisters in the church. I don't love him anymore, I want a divorce."

Nigeria Sets World Record In Tooth-Brushing

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 06:23 AM PDT

Nigeria's Lagos State has shattered the Guinness Book of World in tooth brushing previously set by India by getting 300,000 students from 600 public secondary schools in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria to brush their teeth simultaneously at different locations.
In 2007, 117,000 students in India brushed their teeth simultaneously for one minute at different locations, thus entering the Guinness Book of World Record, a record that has lasted for six years.

In Lagos the students achieved this feat by brushing their teeth simultaneously for one minute across 326 multiple locations across Lagos State, with the main location being Teslim Balogun Stadium where thousands of students undertook the exercise.

At exactly, 2.15 pm on Thursday, Project Head of HEIT Solutions, Dr. Lawal Bakare, convener of the Tooth brushing Challenge Project, signaled on the students to begin brushing their teeth and called on them to stop at 2.16 pm.

Unilever Nigeria Limited, one of the sponsors of the event provided the tooth brush and toothpaste used in the challenge, while the Lagos State Government partnered with HEIT Solution to undertake the tooth brushing challenge.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina commended the students for being part of the feat, describing it as historic for their generation, saying that there was need for them to pay more attention to their oral health, as doing so, would impact on their general well being and ensure they lived long.

According to her, the government explored the tooth brushing challenge as a means to build positive oral health behaviours among young people and use them to influence change in older people, while restating government`s commitment to the provision of affordable dental care, as a good number of health facilities had been equipped to demonstrate that commitment.
Lagos students brushing their teeth into Guinness Book of World Records

He said the new record is subject to verification by officials of the Guinness Book of Records after the report from all the locations is collated, upon which certificate will be presented as the official World Record holders.

Convener of the tooth brushing challenge, Bakare explained that school children were chosen for the project because they were still at a stage when they could embrace new behaviours and attitudes.

"You are the essence of this challenge, we gathered here because we believe that you are supposed to have better oral health. Most of you do not know that when you don't have your teeth, you would not grow as you ought to, so we are trying to make you remember three things; brush twice a day, brush using the appropriate technique and visit the dentist regularly,' he stated.

According to the Brand Manager, Unilever (Close Up), Mr. Kester Abiola, less than 50 percent of Nigerians brush their teeth twice a day as that was not good enough, adding that 17 percent of the population had toothaches due to improper and irregular tooth brushing, which he said, could be corrected with good oral hygiene.

"Unilever has supported oral health in Nigeria for over eight decades; its Close-Up brand was produced to meet the oral health needs of Nigerians. Unilever is 90 years old and over the years, we have continued to come up with products to ensure oral health of citizens, especially children. Close Up tooth paste is a family brand anytime any day and we are proud to be part of history making," he said. [PM NEWS]

The actress said she preferred to be called Aishat instead of her former Christian name.
"In case you want to know I have a good relationship with my baby's father and that is why I had to convert to Muslim and got a new name Aishat before they baby was named. I am a Christian, but I had to convert to Islam because of my baby," Liz Da Silva revealed in a recent interview.

Paul Okoye finally accepts baby with 19 year old beauty queen, Elshama

In May, we all heard that Paul Okoye, the other half of singing sensation P-Square, had welcomed a baby with 19 year old MBGN 2012 contestant, Elshama Igbanoi.

Paul Okoye has never reacted to the story in the press…to either confirm or deny that he is indeed the little boy's father. The boy was born April 7th in the UK, four days before Paul and his girlfriend Anita welcomed their son, Andre, in Atlanta.Paul at the time told the Igbanoi family that he's going to do a DNA test to ascertain paternity. Maybe he's done it because he has officially acknowledged the boy as his.

SAD STORY!!! REST IN PEACE DOUGLAS "DUDE" UDE. (MUST READ)

REST IN PEACE DOUGLAS "DUDE" UDE.
Sad, tragic end of a good man.
....
Douglas Ude had a visitor last Sunday and was driving with his wife to pick the person at Jibowu in Lagos. Along the way, armed robbers accosted them and rather than throw them out of the car, chose to drive with them (Douglas and wife) for an operation that night.
Somewhere during the operation, the robbers encountered the police and a gun fight ensued.

Douglas was felled by police bullets as they were trying to repel the robbers. A surgery in Nigeria could not do it and Fidelity Bank, where he worked as Head of Retail Products hired an air ambulance to fly him abroad for proper treatment.
....
Douglas gave up the ghost as he was being wheeled into the ambulance on the tarmac of the Lagos airport.
...
RIP DOUGLAS

Doctors Advised Family To Unplug Mandela's Life Support Machine

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 03:53 AM PDT

Doctors treating Nelson Mandela said he was in a "permanent vegetative state" and advised his family to turn off his life support machine a week ago, according to court documents obtained by AFP on Thursday.

"He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine,"
"The Mandela family have been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off.

"Rather than prolonging his suffering, the Mandela family is exploring this option as a very real probability," said the court filing dated June 26.

Since the document was written, the government, family members and people visiting Mandela have reported his condition has improved.

"He is clearly a very ill man, but he was conscious and he tried to move his mouth and eyes when I talked to him," Denis Goldberg, one of the men who was convicted with Mandela, told AFP after visiting him on Monday.

"He is definitely not unconscious," he said adding that "he was aware of who I was."

Goldberg said he was asked by Mandela's wife Graca Machel to pay him a visit "just to give him mental stimulation."

Man Locks Head in Cage to quit Smoking (PHOTO)

Call it extreme, but some people will go to unimaginable lengths to quit smoking. A Turkish man has resorted to locking his face in a cage to prevent him from smoking.

Turkey's 'Hurriyet' newspaper on Tuesday reported that Ibrahim, 42, from the country's western province of Kutayha, made a helmet-shaped cage and locked his head in it in a bid to stop himself from smoking.

He then gave one its two keys to his son and the other to his wife so he cannot open the helmet to smoke when outside the home.

Ibrahim said he is trying to shake off the habit of smoking two packs of cigarettes a day, which he has been doing for 26 years. The newspaper reported that he donned the helmet two days ago, and has not smoked a cigarette since then.

I Make N10,000 Daily From Picking Pockets – Suspect

Posted: 05 Jul 2013 02:56 AM PDT

Terry Umuokoro, 22, who makes a living as a pickpocket, has been arrested by the Apapa Police Division with five other suspects who took part in a robbery operation at Senator Muse Road, Apapa in June 2013.

Umuokoro was arrested last week at a hotel along Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos. He had allegedly resided at the hotel for two months.
But the suspect denied being part of any robbery operation. Umukoro explained that he was a pickpocket.

He said, "I pick pockets for a living, I am not a robber. I started in January 2013 because I had no job after completing my secondary school education."

The suspect explained how he operates, he usually armed himself with a school bag to create the appearance of a university undergraduate. Then he board as many commercial buses as possible, where he would pick the pockets of unsuspecting passengers. His loot included money and phones.

He said, "I only steal Nokia phones because you can sell them easily. I steal about three phones daily and have a buyer at Boundary bus stop in Ajegunle. I give him the phones and get paid in return. I make about N10,000 daily."

Due to the success of his trade, Umuokoro allegedly moved out of his family home to the hotel at Ojo road where a room goes at a rate of N5, 000 daily.

The other suspects, Desmond Ozore, Solomon Mibien, Nelson Mbabie, Jamiu Adigun and Akeem Apejoye, were initially arrested at the same hotel by the Victoria Garden City Police Post after a Blackberry Bold 5 which was stolen from a resident at Senator Muse road, was found with Ozore's girlfriend.

On June 4 2013, two buildings were robbed on Senator Muse Road and valuables such as BlackBerrys, laptops and money were allegedly taken by the armed robbers.

One of the stolen phones was traced to Ozore's girlfriend who claimed that he had given her the phone.

Ozore said, "I am not a robber, none of my friends are. We are all into internet fraud. We stayed in the hotel because we need uninterrupted electricity.

"I bought the phone for N26,000 from Mibien. I never knew it was stolen."

Mibien denied being part of the robbery gang and claimed he also bought the phone from another friend who is currently at large.

There was no response from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide. She did not respond to calls or text messages to her phone.

Nigeria is a very religious country. There are so many churches in Nigeria and it is hard to keep count. Due to the heavy competition, some pastors go extra hard to attract people to their churches. Some even go overboard by printing crazy posters to attract members.
Check out some of these church posters which are totally hilarious and bizarre:
