| Superstar Artistes: Trey Songz, Marlon Wayans, Miguel, Don Jazzy others arrive SA for MAMAs (Photo) Posted: 06 Jun 2014 12:58 PM PDT
and nominees landed in Durban, South Africa this morning to be a part of the fourth edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards.
International artistes and MAMA performers, Miguel, Trey Songz, French Montana and beau, Khloe Kardashian and Marlon Wayans were also spotted at the airport.
Nigerian nominees including Don Jazzy, Davido, Flavour, Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, Phyno, Clarence Peters also arrived in the early hours of today.
The talents were welcomed by traditional dancers from Kwazulu Natal Province and later attended the MAMA press conference which held this evening. [Photos] Posted: 06 Jun 2014 06:56 AM PDT Barely a month after a Pakistani woman was stoned to death by her family for marrying a man she loved, a teenager survived after she was shot twice and thrown in a canal by her family for marrying the man she loved.Saba Maqsood was attacked by her father, uncle, brother and aunt before she was tossed into the canal.
A police spokesman,Ali Akbar told ReutersThe victim, Saba ... married her neighbour Muhammad Qaiser for love five days ago against the wishes of her family.They took her to Hafizabad, shot her twice and threw her in the canal after putting her in a sack, presuming that she was dead.'Her relatives fled the scene,and after minutes in the water she regained consciousness and struggled to the bank, where passers-by helped her. She is a brave girl. She came out of the canal and approached a nearby fuel station from where a rescue team rushed her to hospital. Mr Akbar said he had recorded a statement from Ms Maqsood in which she blamed her family for the attack...She said
'I was tortured and shot by my father Maqsood Ahmad, brother Faisal Maqsood, uncle Ashfaq Ahmad and his wife Sajida Bibi.Her condition is out of danger and we have registered a case against her family on her complaint.' Popular Yoruba comedian, Olaniyi Afonja, also known as Sanyeri, has debunked a rumour going round that he was involved in a car crash a few days ago.
The actor, who has been at the centre of many humorous videos produced in recent years, told our correspondent in a telephone interview on Wednesday that the rumour was the handiwork of some fraudulent people.
"I never got involved in any accident. So, I am not in any hospital as they claim. As I am talking to you, I am in Femi Adebayo's house where I am eating pounded yam and snail. I have been with him for some days because we are working on his new film," Sanyeri said.
He noted that he had learnt that some people had started soliciting for money which, they claimed, would be used to offset his hospital bill.
He added, "That is why I have started crying loud to warn people that they should not listen to them. They are 419 guys who want to use my name to dupe innocent people."

| UNILAG students hold protest hike in registration fee, shut down school, trap visitors in campus (photos) Posted: 06 Jun 2014 05:11 AM PDT  There is an ongoing protest in UNILAG, vehicles have been barred from going in or out, the UNILAG gate is shut, no lectures, students are angry and pissed off, visitors are trapped in the campus, we can't go out and it's so annoying!
There is a heavy traffic in and outside the school and the drivers have abandoned their vehicles....
The students are moving round the campus holding leaves and tree branches and singing "We no gree, we no gree, no more exploitation..We won't pay! We won't pay!! We won't pay!!! We won't pay!!! We won't pay!!!We go fight una...Everything in unilag is all abt money. Why??? Are we slaves....They make the School so Bitter for the Low Class students." 
They are angry that they have to pay N15,000 to HIRE their convocation gowns (for the convocation ceremony which holds next week), angry that they have to pay N20,000 to edit their course forms online (late registration fee).
The protesting students claimed the management shut the school portal against registration and began demanding for N10,000, which again increased to N15,000 and N20,000 progressively in the last few days.
