Whitney Houston’s Daughter Bobbi Kristina Shades Angela Bassett, Says She Looks Male? Posted: 30 Jun 2014 05:03 PM PDT Bobbi Kristina is not happy that she isn't being cast to play any role, especially that of her mother in the upcoming Lifetime movie about Whitney Houston. The movie will be directed by well known actress, Angela Basset, who is also a friend to Whitney after they acted together in Waiting To Exhale. Bobbi Kristina went on Twitter over the weekend to respond to comments said to have been made by Angela Basset on selecting the best actress to play the role of Whitney Houston in the movie. Angela spoke about the movie which is now in pre-production in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and said she never thought of selecting Bobbi to play her famous mother because she didn't regard her as an actress.
Those comments are what appear to have set Bobbi Christina off. She went on to insult Angela Basset in her Twitter rants, saying; "Ha MsAng "bassketcase" has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn't mistake me for the wrong sex…she has some #XtraEquipment" This is just plain disrespectful, uncalled for, and immature on the part of Bobbi, and does she think this attitude will get her taken seiriously as an actress or professional?
Lupita's Side Hustle in College Was Braiding Hair For Friends, Watch Her Show Her Skills! Posted: 30 Jun 2014 04:56 PM PDT Lupita Nyong'o is smart, beyond talented, and all around amazing. But what most of us didn't know was that she loves braiding hair for her friends. On her recent photoshoot with Vogue [see here], the Oscar-winning actress filmed an intimate hair video where she braided a group of her closest girlfriends' hair—basically giving us a direct view into what it's really like to be her bestie. I was expecting to see Chimamanda Adichie there, and though she's not, it's easy to see that the two will be besties in due time. Lupita explains that she learnt how to braid hair in Kenya intending for it to be her side hustle while in college and graduate school in the US, but while she braided her college friends hair all the time, she didn't have the heart to charge them after all. I doubt she needs any side hustle now, but the end results of her friends' hair show she's really talented. "What I love about my hair texture and this kind of hair is you can do all sorts of interesting angular shapes with it," says the Vogue covergirl. "Braiding just tells a story. It's just like sculpting the locks, really."
Married at 14, Pregnant at 15, Dead at 21? Child Bride Facing Execution For Killing Abusive Husband Posted: 30 Jun 2014 03:07 PM PDT Razieh Ebrahimi was married at 14, had a child at 15, shot her husband at 17 and is now on death row aged just 21. Charities including Human Rights Watch are fighting to have her sentence repealed and hold it up as an example of brutal capital punishment in Iran and other countries. International law prohibits the execution of child offenders but in Iran, girls as young as nine and boys aged 15 or older can be killed for some crimes, including murder. Authorities arrested Ebrahimi – called "Maryam" in the local press – four years ago after she shot her husband in the head as he was sleeping and buried his body in the garden, a source told Human Rights Watch. Imprisoned in the city of Ahvaz, she admitted guilt and said she snapped after several years of physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her husband. Human Rights Watch is calling on the Iranian government to prohibit the death penalty for under-18s and impose a moratorium on all passed sentences. Under Iranian law, murder victims' survivors can pardon the killer but the husband's family has refused. Via Independent UK
Magazine Covers - Burn Victim Turia Pitt is Inspirational Posted: 30 Jun 2014 02:02 PM PDT Australian Women's Weekly decided to feature burn victim Turia Pitt as the cover girl for its July issue, and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Major women's magazines are typically covered by models, or celebrities. Hollywood actresses, superstar singers or athletes are photographed in the best lights, and then they are photoshopped and airbrushed to perfection. Turia Pitt is not in any of those professions, but her cover is more inspirational than any I've usually seen. Both on her part, and also on the part of the Magazine editors. Pitt, who was part of a panel for the mag's annual Women of the Future scholarship awards, was chosen for her inspirational story. A spokesperson said the mag chose Turia Pitt, an engineer, athlete, author, and motivational speaker, "because she is quite simply one of the most impressive women you will ever hope to meet." Pitt was competing in a 100km ultra-marathon in 2011 when she was trapped in a bushfire. She sustained burns over 65% of her body; doctors told her partner there was little chance she'd survive. Today, in addition to her full-time job as a mining engineer, she regularly completes impressive athletic events — such as walking the Great Wall of China and swimming a 20km lake race in Australia's Lake Argyle — to raise money for Interplast, a non-profit that provides plastic surgery procedures for those in need. Turia had defied medical experts' initial opinions with her recovery, and with her cover, she says she feels like the "luckiest girl in the world." "For me, it sends the message that confidence equals beauty" Pitt told the magazine. "There are a lot of women out there who are so beautiful but don't have the confidence, and that's what gets you over the line." Pitt's extraordinary appearance has already touched people around the world, including Hello Giggles blogger Margaret Eby who wrote about why Pitt could be a catalyst for real change: Let Pitt be an example to other publishers of women's magazines: Beauty comes in many vessels. Women need to see less gloss, and more grit. Less mascara, and more accomplishment. More women of color, more women with diverse backgrounds, just more. What if magazines started using women who didn't look perfect on their covers? What if they started using women with unique faces and incredible back stories? Could we handle it? Yes, yes we could.
When Did You Learn that #LikeAGirl Was A Bad Thing? Posted: 30 Jun 2014 12:29 PM PDT Using #LikeAGirl as an insult is one of those little underhanded ways society keeps putting girls and women down and somehow, we never really think much about it. However, it is indeed a hard knock against any adolescent girl. And since the rest of puberty's really no picnic either, it's easy to see what a huge impact it can have on a girl's self-confidence. Sometimes I get scared about being potentially a mom to a little girl that I have to nurture to adulthood with her self-esteem intact when she will keep meeting all these bumps in the road. Remember Ban Bossy? Watch the video and let's discuss. Do you do stuff like YOURSELF or you do it #LikeAGirl - the way society tells you? With this video, Always has kicked off another campaign that wants to make sure that girls everywhere keep their confidence throughout puberty and beyond. Like #BanBossy, this video shows that doing things #LikeAGirl should not be a bad thing. Lauren Greenfield, filmmaker and director of the #LikeAGirl video, says; "In my work as a documentarian, I have witnessed the confidence crisis among girls and the negative impact of stereotypes first-hand.
T.I and Tiny Back Together? The Couple Attended BET Awards and Pre-Party Together Posted: 30 Jun 2014 12:02 PM PDT Rumors of divorce or at least a break-up have been trailing rapper T.I and his wife Tiny for months now after both had been noted subbing the other on social media. In many cases it has been T.I calling out his wife on pictures she posts on Instagram. T.I also got into a street fight with Floyd Mayweather in Vegas last month [read here], and then a social media war with fellow rapper Azalea a couple of weeks ago [here]. Now, it seems T.I and Tiny have kissed and made up, and want to put the speculations of divorce to rest. The couple were photographed sitting together at the BET Awards last night, and were also spotted cuddling up and holding hands at T.I.'s BET pre-show mansion party. Their problems started after Tiny found out T.I had a baby with another woman, aaccording to various reports, but T.I has since denied those claims.
Nigeria Loses 2 - 0 to France And Thus Ends Our World Cup Journey Posted: 30 Jun 2014 11:34 AM PDT Captain, Joseph Yobo, scored an own goal during today's World Cup round of 16 soccer match between France and Nigeria. But his mistake at the final minute was just the nail in the coffin. The Super Eagles had a goal ruled out for offside in the first half after Emmanuel Emenike scored the first goal of the match with a cross from Ahmed Musa. That first half belonged to Nigeria as France started slowly. However, France finished strongly in the second half with their striker Paul Pogba scoring a late header from a corner kick that broke Nigeria's defence. Goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, was finally destabilized with less than 15 minutes to go to the end of the match. We could not equalize and then Yobo got flustured and nudged in his own goal that made it 2 - 0. The guys all tried their best. Vincent Enyeama is the man of the match, once again.
Oscar Pistorius Had No Mental Disorder When He Shot Girlfriend Reeva Steemkamp Posted: 30 Jun 2014 11:14 AM PDT A panel of psychiatrists has found that Oscar Pistorius did not suffer from any mental illness that impacted his ability to know right from wrong when he fatally shot his girlfriend. Pistorius, a double-amputee Olympic sprinter, has spent a month as an outpatient at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, for a mental evaluation that the judge in his murder trial ordered. The results state that Oscar Pistorius was able to understand the wrongfulness of what he had done, and appeared to remove the possibility that he could be declared not guilty because of a mental disorder. This would have meant that instead of prison for a guilty verdict, he would have been referred to a state psychiatric institute for care. The requirement by Judge Thokozile Masipa that Pistorius be observed by a panel of four mental health experts for up to 30 days came after a psychiatrist called by the defense said she diagnosed him with generalized anxiety disorder. However, it was announced Monday that the experts disagreed and the trial resumed. The South African sprinter is accused of gunning down Reeva Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door in his home on Valentine's Day of last year. Nicknamed the "Blade Runner," Pistorius has admitted to the shooting but pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder, alleging he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder. The trial continues.
#HobbyLobby Wins Supreme Court Case Not to Insure Women's Contraception Against Their Faith Posted: 30 Jun 2014 04:09 PM PDT The US Supreme Court has ruled today, 5-4, that the government can't require certain "family owned and small business" employers to provide insurance coverage for methods of birth control and emergency contraception that conflict with their religious beliefs. In a deeply divisive case pitting advocates of religious liberty against women's right's groups, the Supreme Court said today that two for profit corporations with sincerely held religious beliefs do not have to provide a full range of contraceptives at no cost to their employees pursuant to the Affordable Care Act. In the case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, the majority opinion was written by Justice Samuel Alito who insists that for purposes of the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act, closely held corporations should be regarded as "persons" and have their religious freedoms upheld. In holding that the HHS mandate is unlawful, we reject HHS's argument that the owners of the companies forfeited all RFRA protection when they decided to organizetheir businesses as corporations rather than sole proprietorships or general partnerships. The plain terms of RFRA make it perfectly clear that Congress did not discriminate in this way against men and women who wish torun their businesses as for-profit corporations in the manner required by their religious beliefs. It's also important to note that the business owners' objections were not to contraception, per se, but to abortion. They argued that four types of contraception required to be covered amounted to abortion, as Alito noted and which Solicitor General, in arguing the Obama Administration case in March, has rejected as contrary to any ordinary understanding of what abortion is. Alito: The owners of the businesses have religious objections to abortion, and according to their religious beliefs the fourcontraceptive methods at issue are abortifacients. If the owners comply with the HHS mandate, they believe theywill be facilitating abortions, and if they do not comply, they will pay a very heavy price—as much as $1.3 million per day, or about $475 million per year, in the case of one of the companies. If these consequences do not amount toa substantial burden, it is hard to see what would. Alito noted that the Obama Administration has already carved out exceptions to the mandate for churches, and for religious non-profit it has devised a workaround that involves the government — the religious non-profit — paying for the coverage. Alito: Although HHS has made this system available to religious nonprofits that have religious objections to the contraceptive mandate, HHS has provided no reason why thesame system cannot be made available when the owners of for-profit corporations have similar religious objections. We therefore conclude that this system constitutes analternative that achieves all of the Government's aims while providing greater respect for religious liberty. And under RFRA, that conclusion means that enforcement of the HHS contraceptive mandate against the objectingparties in these cases is unlawful. All the justices that assented to the ruling were men. Alito was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Antonin Scalia and Justice Clarence Thomas. Justice Anthony Kennedy filed a concurring opinion. The decision is a victory for the Green family that owns the Hobby Lobby arts and crafts chain and the Hahns who own Conestoga, a cabinet making company, who had challenged the so called contraceptive mandate saying it forced them to either violate their faith or pay ruinous fines. The government defended the provision as an essential part of health care coverage for women. Via ABC and Dallas News. The full ruling on Mother Jones.

The United States Reveals They Still Have No Idea Where Kidnapped Chibok Girls Are Posted: 30 Jun 2014 08:26 AM PDT The United States through Pentagon spokesman, Rear Admiral John Kirby, reportedly admitted that US troops in Nigeria have not found out where the abducted Chibok girls are. "We don't have any better idea today than we did before about where these girls are, but there's been no letup of the effort itself," Kirby said about the search for the over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram. He also said that the US troops had decreased their surveillance flights in Nigeria, but explained that the overall search levels were unchanged due to international involvement, as there are now more flights by other countries including UK and France. The report insists the U.S is unrelenting in efforts to locate and rescue the girls. According to Punch, A US defence official speaking on condition of anonymity said American flights had been reduced only after a body of intelligence had been gathered and that the cuts had been offset by the British and the French support.
Daddy Time - Aliko Dangote and Daughters Posted: 30 Jun 2014 08:07 AM PDT Aliko Dangote is one of Africa's most popular business men billionaires, but it's amazing how one never hears much about his family. Well, I was reading something and was so surprised when I saw this picture of Aliko Dangote with his daughter, Halima. The picture was taken back in May at the Nominee's Gala for the TIME's most influential 100 people around the world. Halima is Aliko's second daughter, and it is reported that Aliko Dangote has only daughters, Zainab, Halima, Fatima and Salma.

Did Prince Harry Just Say Nephew Prince George Looks Like An Ugly Old Man? Posted: 30 Jun 2014 06:06 AM PDT OK, he didn't exactly put it that way. Prince Harry only said his nephew Prince George looks like a young Winston Churchill. It was during a radio interview that Harry was asked about his nephew and he responded; 'He's growing up, he is walking and he has big, chubby cheeks. He looks like a young Winston Churchill'. Put like that, his comments are not so bad. Still, Winston Churchill was never known to be good looking. I can't help but think that George's mum Kate Middleton might not be so happy about the comparison. Doesn't every mom think their baby is the cutest? George will be celebrating his first birthday next month, and I personally like babies with round faces and full pinchable cheeks. By the time they start walking and stretching out, all the baby fat will disappear. Earlier this month on Father's Day, Prince George was pictured taking his first steps at a polo match where his dad and uncle, Prince William and Harry, were playing. George stayed mostly with his mum Kate Middleton, crawling and walking rings around her like most toddlers.
10 Unusual Real Life Marriage Proposals Around The World Posted: 30 Jun 2014 04:04 AM PDT In times when the very institution of marriage is under threat, every proposal has a special meaning. It is a testimony to the feeling that there is something stronger than a live-in relationship or a civil partnership that can bring a couple closer. No wonder then that men – and sometimes women too – are willing to go to extraordinary lengths to propose marriage to their beloved. Here are 10 unusual real life marriage proposals that are sure to serve as inspirations if you are planning to pop the question yourself. Lip-dub your love What more romantic way to propose than to lip-sync to the words of a popular pop song? This is exactly what Isaac of Portland Oregon, did as he roped in his family and friends to propose marriage to his girlfriend Amy. One morning in May 2012 Isaac told Amy to meet him at his parent's house. When she arrived he had stationed his brother to sit her on the back of a Honda CRV with some headphones on. And then to the sound of Bruno Mars' 'Marry You', Amy was then serenaded by Isaac as well as his friends and family as her car moved slowly along the street. As the song finished, Isaac, emerged through a tunnel of people, got down on his knee and asked Amy for her hand in marriage. Left breathless and blushing by all the outpouring of affection, she said yes and then the couple embraced to great applause. However Isaac's success didn't end there. Two days after asking his girlfriend to marry him, Isaac posted it online and immediately the 5 minutes 53 seconds long video became the talk of the web. After racking up several thousand views in just a few hours, 'Isaac's Live Lip-Dub Proposal' emerged as a global hot topic on Twitter with many calling it "the best proposal ever". The video ended with the following message from Isaac: "To the 60+ friends and family who helped me put this together: Thank you. You'll never know the extent of my gratitude. And to my sweet pea. Thanks for saying yes." Related - Message in a Bottle Proposal Paint your proposal In June 2012, Drew Henkels of New York painted a message proposing to his girlfriend on the hoarding overlooking the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The message which read - "Will u marry me Chelsea Mose?" – provided drivers with a much-appreciated change in scenery along the unromantic expressway near the Flushing Avenue exit. When Mose got home from work, he walked her over to see his handiwork. He then got down on his knee, pulled out the right and pointed at the billboard. However when she met his gesture with silence, his heart sank for a moment but Mose quickly relented and there were cheers all around. 28-year-old Henkels met his sweetheart a year ago in Perth in her native Australia, where he was on tour playing in a band. The couple exchanged old-fashioned letters for four months before she came to visit him in November, and after she moved into his Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment in April, he decided to marry her. Zero-Gravity Plunge Graciela Asturias, a 27-year-old architect from Manhattan, got a rather unique birthday present when her boyfriend proposed to her a thousand feet above the ground while floating in an airplane cabin. When the couple boarded the Boeing 727 aircraft she thought it was her birthday present from her boyfriend but little did she know that this aircraft was specially designed to create the experience of microgravity during four-five minute plunges as it would fly up and down between 24,000 and 35,000 feet, allowing the passengers to experience a near zero gravity effect. While Alex and Graciela were floating in the cabin, Alex popped the question. Alex was a bit worried that while in zero gravity, the ring might float away but luckily everything worked out. Graciela not only had an extraordinary birthday but received a truly unusual marriage proposal. Incidentally, the couple plan on spending their tenth wedding anniversary in the orbit. Love sets you on fire – literally With the aid of a well-known stunt man Eric Barkley, Todd Grannis devised a plan to not only entertain family and friends at their annual 4th of July family reunion but to also propose to his girlfriend Malissa. Barkley who's done many human-torch fire jumps himself, helped Todd set up a stunt to launch himself off a platform above a swimming pool while being completely engulfed in flames. Eric lit Todd's cape on fire and seconds later he became complete engulfed in gasoline induced flames. Todd ran off the platform, soared through the air against the night sky and landed in the pool, extinguishing himself from the fiery blaze. As he surfaced and pulled off his hood, Todd walked over to Malissa, got down on one knee and proposed. Already overwhelmed with the daring stunt, Malissa was faint with happiness at the ring and said yes. Sky is the limit If you wish to make your marriage proposal truly memorable then, the sky is the limit. Mateo Martinez took the idea to heart when he decided on popping the question to his girlfriend on a sky-diving attempt. So at 20,000 feet just as he and his girlfriend were about to dive out of the aircraft, Martinez asked his beloved to marry him – a proposal really heart-stopping and in more ways than one. Performance Pays Andrew Gleason had been dating his girlfriend Andrea Wightwick and was ready to take their relationship to the next level. So he rented out a theatre and filled it with all of their friends. He arranged for the theater troupe to get them up on stage and act in their skit. Then, in the middle of it all, Gleason broke character and asked Wightwick to marry him. Go on air For a proposal that would not only impress a girlfriend but be applauded by thousands of viewers across the country, a sure-fire way is to get it on a popular talk show. And this is exactly what Steve Rapetto did by grabbing the microphone from Sam Champion and declaring his love for girlfriend Camilla. Rapetto and Camilla Degody were high school sweethearts and had come to New York for their anniversary. They waited in Time Square in the cold for hours, but all the while Rapetto was planning something special. So when he went on the show, Rapetto grabbed the opportunity and asked his my girlfriend of eight years to marry him. Hack into her heart This is one wedding proposal idea that even the most shy and geeky boyfriend would not mind exploring. Bernie Peng, 26, of New Jersey, proposed to his girlfriend Tammy Li, 27 by hacking into her favourite online game. To do this, Peng reprogrammed Bejeweled so that a ring and a proposal would pop up when she reached a certain score. Peng, who works as a programmer of financial software, spent about a month reprogramming the game. He presented the game to a surprised Li, who played until she hit the score that triggered a digital pink sapphire ring to drop down with Peng's proposal. The story was picked up by video gaming sites and spread across the internet until the manufacturer eventually heard about it. Instead of being angry that Peng had hacked into their game, company officials were so impressed that apparently they even offered to pay for part of the wedding. Say it with umbrellas You may have been told that flowers can always be counted upon to melt a woman's heart, but umbrellas – surely not ! Apparently Sean Palmgren of Minneapolis, Minnesota had other ideas. As part of his wacky proposal, Sean first got his friends and family to carry umbrellas in a park. What he had done was to paint a letter on each umbrella. He then convinced his girlfriend Betsy to take a walk in the park. After rambling around a bit, they proceeded to walk towards a line of people all holding an umbrella right above their heads. This got Betsy very intrigued on what was going on and she wanted to take a closer look. About 100 feet away, upon a cue, everyone flipped their umbrella over to spell out, "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" at first Betsey thought someone else was getting engaged, but when she saw Sean on his knee, she knew the proposal was for her and said Yes. In fact so romantic was Sean's proposal that it was declared the winner of winner of the first ''Platinum Marriage Proposal Story'' contest, jointly sponsored by Platinum Guild International, the worldwide marketing arm for Platinum jewelry, and GroomGroove.com, the leading engagement and wedding web site for men. As a reward, the couple won two platinum wedding bands courtesy of Novell Studios. Get a star to do it Finally what proposal can be more convincing than one which ropes in a Hollywood star to do it? In 2004, Tom Cruise appeared on Portuguese television to ask a woman named Sonia to marry her boyfriend, Joao Martins. Martins was actually a cameraman and had filmed the actor at the Spanish premiere of The Last Samurai. Once Cruise was told that Martins was planning to pop the question, the star agreed to lend a hand. In a clip shown on state channel RTP, Cruise said: "Sonia, you have to marry Joao. Please marry Joao. He is crying behind the camera." His girlfriend accepted the proposal. Martins, who works for RTP, was on the phone to his girlfriend when the marriage proposal was aired. Cruise also joked in the footage they should name their children after him. Source
Beyonce Lets Her Booty Hang Out During Concert - Or Are They Butt Pads? Posted: 30 Jun 2014 02:03 AM PDT Beyonce wore a very racy outfit during the first night of the On The Run concert with Jay-Z in Miami. The bodysuit outfit had the butt cut out and her dancers also wore the same thing. Now those who are more familiar with Beyonce's booty say she was wearing butt pads and that is not her backside. For me, I have no idea, though I wonder why she didn't just go pantless? My favorite part of the show are the clips from her wedding, pregnancy, and Baby Blue. [Watch here] Do you think those are butt pads or the real bootylicious Beyonce? See another picture below...
Kim Kardashian And North West Racially Assaulted By Fellow First Class Airplane Passenger Posted: 30 Jun 2014 09:53 AM PDT Kim Kardashian has just revealed the horrible details of how she and baby North West were verbally attacked by a racist passenger in an airplane. I thought one could escape such things in the first class section. But no. Kim had written before on her blog [here] that she worried about Nori being subjected to racism, and it seems her fears have come true. Kim was travelling with her mom Kris Jenner and baby Nori, recounted the terrible incident to Khloe, explaining how she was woken by the woman's screaming; "Mom had the baby, I fell asleep, I woke up to this woman screaming, 'Kanye West's baby!' The woman is screaming at my child ... I jump up." Kim said in a just-released E! News preview. Kris Jenner finishes up the story: "Then the lady stood up in the cabin in first class, and yelled at the top of her lungs, that 'She's with a black guy and that baby is black, and you need to shut that black baby up." Khloe responds saying, "I would've punched her in her face." Some might feel that Khloe is being too harsh, but when your child is treated badly, a lot of moms would definitely think what she said, even if they don't carry it out. But why would people be so mean to an innocent baby?
