| Heartless! Five-year-old boy kidnapped in Lagos,gets Sold for N350,000 in Enugu (See Photo) Posted: 24 May 2014 09:25 AM PDT  Punch reports that Donatus, a commercial motorcyclist, was away at work that Sunday, when he received a call to come back home. The missing boy's mother, a petty trader, explained that few minutes before he was kidnapped, she came back from church with her two children – Joseph and his elder brother, Godwin. She said: "Joseph told me he wanted to go and play with one of his friends beside our house after we came back from church but I told him he should give me some minutes to shower. I rushed in, bathed and changed my clothes. I came out again a few minutes later and did not see him. I thought he had wandered off to his friend's house next door. I went there and called him but I got no answer. I went to his friend's house and they said he had not been seen there either. I became worried, I started screaming his name. We went from door to door. Neighbours and other residents too joined me. We searched everywhere. I screamed and cried but my child was gone. But I knew he could not have wandered off because he had never done so before. I knew something was very wrong."The residents of Church Village and Donatus' neighbours organised themselves into search parties and knocked on doors. Among the crowd searching for the boy and knocking on doors to enquire if anybody saw the boy, was a friendly and concerned woman called Mrs. Beatrice Iwu, restaurateur, who operates Feed Well Restaurant in the area. But the groups couldn't find the boy. Then 2 months later, May 12, the Donatus family got a break. Donatus's sister-in-law, Mrs. Oluchi Emereole, got a call from a young man in Enugu, who knew about the missing child. The woman said: "I got the phone number of one Mr. Fidelis from the young man. The man told me that a lady he knew in Enugu, the daughter of Mrs. Iwu (the restaurateur who also helped in the search) had been arrested for kidnapping and selling a child. He told me the child was kidnapped in Lagos and when he gave me the child's description, it matched that of Joseph."Punch correspondent spoke with Mr. Fidelis, a prophet, who narrated how he got a call telling him about a lady called Esther, arrested in their village, for kidnapping a child. He said: I was in Lagos when I received the call. I know both Esther and her mother (Iwu). The mother lives in Church Village, Ipaja. Apparently, Esther had sold the child to another woman, who later returned him when he refused to eat. When the buyer demanded a refund, a fight broke out. But neighbours who were suspicious about the deal that caused their fight called the police."Immediately Donatus got information about the child, who was then kept in custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Enugu Police State Command, he proceeded to Enugu to see if the child was his. "I got to the SCID in Enugu and the police asked me about my missing child's complexion, his height and his name. When I told them his name was Joseph, the Investigating Police Officer said the child was not likely to be mine," he said.Joseph had been given another name, Success, by his buyer, Saturday PUNCH learnt. "But when they brought the child out, lo and behold, it was my child. He ran towards me and hugged me, shouting 'daddy!' They asked him who his father was and he pointed to me. They asked him the name I called him and he said Joseph. I wept for joy. They told me everything that happened and how he was recovered. They told me Joseph was sold for N350,000. I begged them to show me the woman who sold her but the police did not," Egbe said.
Joseph said: I was rolling tyre with my friend in the front of our house. The mummy living over there (he pointed in the direction of Iwu's house about 50 metres away) came and cover my mouth with handkerchief. She (Iwu) carried me to her house and locked me inside. She said she would kill me if I shouted."He pointed to the house. "When she locked me inside here, a big car came and she put me inside it and we left. The journey was long. The woman told me not to talk inside the car. When we got there, he locked me inside a room and later, a woman took me away. They gave me food but I did not eat because my father told me not to take food from a stranger. I was always crying, the woman shouted at me and took me to the woman that put me in the vehicle."Donatus' family and residents of Church Village at a point broached the idea of destroying Iwu's house in retaliation. But after being calmed by the Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Segun Titiladunoye of the Ipaja Police Division, that justice would be done, the residents desisted. Gorgeous! On the day of the incident, we ate together before we parted ways for classes. He was good friend and close brother. Mike could go anywhere for the things of God." Those were the words of Opeyemi Ogunjemilehin, a student of the University of Jos, mourning the loss of one of their colleagues, Micheal Ogbote, who was among those killed in the twin bomb explosions that rocked the Terminus Market, Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday. Many of the students are yet to come to terms with the reality of losing their colleagues - identified as Micheal Ogbote, Francisca Nwafor, Lydia Komolafe, Dolapo, Milly Yusuf, Doris Gegunem and Vivian Chiamaka. The President, Association of Laboratory Medical Science Students of the university, who is also a classmate of the deceased, Mensah Bulus, described the incident as horrible. He said he was with the seven of them shortly before the bomb blast. "Before the incident, we were all in a class and shortly after the lecture, everybody filed out and the seven of them that died went towards the same direction. I overheard them discussing the lecture of the day as they walked along towards the scene of the incident," he said. "The report I got indicated that two of our classmates walked passed them and few seconds after, there was a bang of explosion and those within the vicinity scampered for safety," Bulus added. According to him, the two students who had walked ahead of the seven were lucky to escape the blast, and they later started calling the seven they left behind to know if they had also escaped but could not connect. They then raised the alarm. "Since then, we have been searching for them. The situation is horrible. We missed seven of our students from 500 Level class; but for now, two of them have been identified. Five are still missing. Up till now, we did not know if the five were among those burnt beyond recognition," Bulus said further. The President of the Redeemed Christian fellowship, UNIJOS, Opeyemi Ogunjemilehin, said the three members -Micheal Ogbole, Vivian Obialor and Lydia Komolafe involved in the disaster were staunch members of the fellowship, as well as good friends and close confidants. I remember vividly the role all of them played when the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, visited the University of Jos in May this year. Mike was part of protocol while the other two sisters were in charge of decoration. The fellowship will miss the three of them." Tosin Ajani is a 500 Level student of the department and friend to the seven of them that lost their lives in the explosion. She is still stunned by the death of her friends. While speaking with Saturday Tribune, Tosin shed tears and refused to be consoled. She was said to have been very close to the seven students that died in the unfortunate incident. "We started this course together and had been together for the past four years. It is unfortunate that I am going to miss them this way. Before the incident on Tuesday, we were together in the class joking with one another as usual, without knowing that that was the last time I would see them," she said Saturday Tribune gathered that apart from the two of the deceased whose bodies were identified, there are indications that the remaining five might have been burnt.Nigerian Tribune Gorgeous! It's for all the people who believe that Jesus already paid for them to be rich. And those who don't believe, when they come they start believing when they see it happen in a lot of people's lives. And we are not ashamed to be called the church of the rich. If they call your family poor, will you be excited? Nobody would be excited. Even when a family is poor, they hate to be called poor. No man in his right mind enjoys being called poor, and nobody truly wants to be poor, people may pretend. Which is more honourable between being a giver and a beggar? Most of us came in very poor, but the light of God's word came on us and we walked out of poverty in grand style into wealth and riches.
Those are things that make news in the social media even when they are lies. People give here because they are taught to give, because we understand from the scriptures that it is the only way to increase. Every normal Winner takes good care of his parents. We also give to the poor. My family has sponsored close to 150 people out of university and others at Landmark University are on scholarship on our own ticket because of our commitment to agriculture. It is a lifestyle; it didn't start yesterday or two days ago. Since 1992, I have been consciously sponsoring students in various universities in Nigeria. The church is blessed because the church is a giving church. Just today (before you came), I signed millions for people who have health needs from the welfare account. And that continues. For instance, the church gives scholarships annually, not N100m or N150m. And it's not in the news. And that we have been doing for years.
The truth is I have never felt it, some say it's not human, but I have not. I can't be wasting my time trying to reply lies because I have too many things to do. They are doing their work, let me be doing my work too and before they wake up in the morning, I've done the next one, so, it doesn't matter. When we started Convenant University, so many people said it would not work, now, we hosted two Nobel Laureates this week, whereas no Nigerian university has ever hosted one in the history of university education in Nigeria. Now, it is the most pronounced and preferred private university in Nigeria. In fact, they say this is the university of the future; that is what they say in the university community. Those who said it could not work now have their children here because they have changed their mind. Some people say how can you tell children how to dress? We have to do that so they won't behave like mad people on the street. They say how can you tell them they can't use phone? We tell them so they would be disconnected from cultism. Ask me anything, I can tell you why we did it. Where are you going to find the President of a nation with a woven hair? I can tell you that in the next 100 years, you won't find a male president using earring because they would count you as irresponsible, even in the secular world, they won't see anything in you. As free as America is, have you ever seen any minister there with earrings? The person may be qualified, but he will be termed irresponsible. But if you train these children how to carry themselves, it will open up their future. Everywhere you get to in this world, people are looking for responsible people, who don't only say so, but prove so. So, all the opinions on Covenant University have died now because we didn't stop pursuing what we believe was right and now it has become a standard.
