No More False Calls! Make False Phone Calls And Go To Jail...Lagos Introduces New Law! Posted: 10 Feb 2014 11:16 AM PST ![]() A new law which has been passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly, western Nigeria has stipulated a prison term of three years or a fine of N500,000 for any resident of the state who makes a false emergency call to an agency of the state government handling such calls within the state. The law, as passed by the House, also stipulates same punishment for any staff of the agency who uses the emergency lines for private or personal calls. The law was passed after it scaled the third reading, to give legal backing to the state Emergency Command and Control Centre, regulates phone calls to the centre and provides for other connected purposes. Section 18 (1) of the law , which has 25 sections, states: "any person who knowingly gives or causes to be given a false alarm to a person acting on behalf of the centre or who uses the emergency telephone lines in any way other than those stipulated (in the law) shall be guilty of an offence and liable upon conviction to a fine of N500,000 or to imprisonment for a term of three years. "In lieu of or in addition to any sentence imposed by virtue of this section, the court may order the offender to perform community service for such a period as the court may determine. The law further states that in addition to these penalties, the offender would be forced to pay the agency whatever amount it spent carrying out its emergency services in response to the false call. The law also states that the centre would have the responsibility of receiving emergency calls through 767 and 112 concerning any incident that requires attention. It would then process the information and inform relevant safety and emergency services providers within the state. It would be funded through grants provided by the state government, grant-in-aid, gifts and donations from non-governmental organisations, as well as the international community. However, the centre must make itself open to auditing at specific period of the year, the law states. The composition of the board for the centre, according to the law, includes a chairman, who shall be an administrator with relevant professional qualification and experience, three members appointed from the public or private sectors and a general manager for the centre. For the purpose of prosecuting false callers, the law gives power to the centre to demand for and receive call logs of the caller to ease sanctions, the law states. What Do you Think?? PMNEWS
'Why I Don’t Collect Less Than N200' - Kano beggar Brags! Posted: 10 Feb 2014 10:08 AM PST ![]() Malam Nuhu is a beggar quite alright, but you dare not give him anything less than N200, because to him, it would be a demeaning to his first class status as abeggar. As a principle, he chooses those to beg and decides the least amount to accept. Hefty, bearded and rugged-looking, Malam Nuhu is always around the popular Dangi roundabout in the heart of Kano city. Just like motorists plying the road, his attention is firmly fixed on the traffic light. But unlike those in cars and on motorcycles who are eagerly waiting for green light to proceed, Malam Nuhu loves it when the traffic light shows red, which enables him solicit for alms. Unlike the numerous hawkers and other beggars who dot the area, however, Malam Nuhu does not go to all sorts of cars for alms. He would only approach those in new, flashy cars. In fact, even if you are in a new car and you are not well dressed, Malam Nuhu will shun you. "If you are well dressed and driving a good car, he will ask for N200 or N500 from you, and will not collect anything short of the amount. Motorists plying the road are familiar with his antics and modus operandi," says a hawker who sells edibles. As early as 7.am, the 'first class beggar' resumes his trade at the roundabout. His closing time is determined by the amount he is able generate. On a good day, he closes at 2.pm, but on a dry day, he stays till 4.pm. Nuhu told Weekly Trust that he begs to earn living. He, however, confirmed that he does not collect anything less than N200, because his needs are numerous. "I came here daily from a village in Bichi Local Government Area. I take commercial motorcycles from my village to the main road and from there I enter bus to this place. I have wives and children. So, how do you expect me to be collecting paltry amount?" he asked rhetorically. He is so proud of his present trade that he became angry when asked whether he could quit begging for N50, 000 job monthly. "I don't want any work, no matter the amount I will be earning at the end of the month. Please allow me to continue with this my trade. If you want to give me alms, good and fine, but if you want to investigate me please stop because this is my own business. Go please, allow me to do my trade," he said and left the area. A 56-year-old driver, Abdullahi Shuaibu said Malam Nuhu has been in the 'trade' for over two decades. "He has been in the business since 90s, because I could remember when I was working with a private company I used to see him around Murtala Roundabout before Kano/Zaria road was dualised. At that time, he will demand for N1 and say he wants to buy slate (allo). After sometime, he changed to N5 that he wants to buy grains. "As the value of the country's money declines, his benchmark rises. From N5 to the present amount, N200 or N500, begging is in his blood. He is a very popular beggar in Kano metropolis. Even if jokingly you give him N10, he will not collect it," he said. Narrating her first encounter with Nuhu, a motorist Halima Musa said she was surprised when he refused to collect the N50 she gave him when he approached her for alms. "When he came to me and solicited for alms, I gave him N50 but to my astonishment, he returned the money and said I should give him the amount he requested. He said he wants to buy grains with it. I didn't hesitate to give him the N200. When I gave him, he collected it and left. "However, days later when we were stopped by the traffic, he came to me and requested for N500. I got angry and wound up my glass. He is physically fit to do any work. It is better for him to turn a new leaf," she said. Weeklytrust

Posted: 10 Feb 2014 07:14 AM PST This is probably the best love story ever, after all the ups and downs, the break- ups, cheating and all, they still ended up as ONE! How They Met Annie first met 2face Idibia at Even Ezra Music Studio when she was just fifteen and in her words, "I think there was some electricity that second". They were friends first but had started dating officially by the time they shot the "African Queen" video in 2004. That was when 2Face announced that they were together during an interview. Mehn, they don tey oh... I remember my 16th birthday at Alpha Beach, with me and my friends. When we were going home, we all walked to the bus stop with him and his cousin. Plantashun Boiz had just recorded "Knock Me Off" at the time so he wasn't a star yet. So we got into the bus, he sat in front with his cousin so when we wanted to pay the conductor, he said, "no, he done pay already" I was feeling like a babe. "Hey! My boyfriend paid everybody's bus fare." And that time, bus was like N2.50k or N3 per person for about 14 people. But he told me recently that he didn't eat that night because he paid for everyone." awwwwwww Soon Annie's entertainment career became a lot more difficult as a result of being known as '2Face's girl' and then they had their first breakup, came back, broke up again... She was hurt when word got out that, in quick succession, 2Face had gotten two different women pregnant – Pero Adeniyi and Sumbo Ajala. At that point, the couple broke up. When Pero and Sumbo yet again got pregnant for 2Face once again, that was when 2Face and Annie had their longest break-up which lasted almost a year and a half. But as they say, love will always find a way, they made up again and Annie gave birth to 2Face's fifth child Isabel and then in 2012, Pero gave birth to his sixth child in the US. Well, Pero couldn't prevent them from being together...smiles! In 2012, 2Face proposed to Annie on Valentine's Day at Jay Jay Okocha's Club 10 in Victoria Island, Lagos. And, they weren't even dating then, although were still on talking terms after he had called her out of the blue a few weeks before, visited her at home and asked for her forgiveness and friendship. According to eye-witness reports, 2Face took Annie to a quiet section of the club, he knelt down and told her "I KNOW WE have had OUR ups and downs but it will be MY heart's desire for YOU to marry ME" and then presented the dazzling ring and Annie began screaming "YES, YES, YES" after crying her eyes out! Shortly after 2Face's concert when he brought out his then-fiancee, Annie during his performance of "African Queen", the two secretly legalized their union in a Lagos registry on Tuesday, May 1 2012.
'Why I am Not Satisfied With the 100 Pairs of shoes I have!' -Comedian AY Tells It All! Posted: 10 Feb 2014 07:03 AM PST ![]() AY in a new interview with Punch speaks on his Career, reactions to jokes, growing up in Warri, his wife and daughter and his 100 pair of shoes. Jim Iyke and Tonto Dikeh both called out the comedian recently for his Deliverance skit. Excerpts: I was born, bred and 'buttered' in Warri. Warri has played a major role in my life because anybody who wants to examine comedy, so to speak, will always want to trace it to the people from that area. It is just the way you think about reggae music back then and Jamaica comes to mind. The core Warri pidgin is highly humorous. It influenced me in the sense that it gives me an insight into any comical situation. I scribble it on paper, write a skit and get the right people. We put it together, put some life into it and it becomes something people like. Some of your skits have made your friends in the entertainment industry to be angry with you. Does it bother you?The first time it would happen is the one that was in the news. A lot of people still get it wrong when it comes to understanding that comedians are jokers. It is quite unfortunate that people are taking comedians too seriously and taking the politicians as jokers. There are lots of things we hear about politicians and we say they are jokes but when comedians crack jokes that are meant to be humorous, make people laugh, people take the comedians seriously. I think it is an issue of priority. Because of the way I mimic people, a lot of people before now used to tell me that the day Chris Okotie or Obahiagbon would catch me, I would be in trouble. When you met them, what were their reactions to your joke?Guess what, Okotie invited me to his church as a sort of surprise package for the members and I cracked all the jokes, all I did was to impersonate his character. He laughed to the point that tears came out of his eyes. That is somebody with a good sense of humour. Obahiagbon came to my seat when we were flying together. The truth is that we make these people more popular by talking about them. We are social commentators. Gone are the days when comedians would go out there and talk about how lions are chasing monkeys. Nobody is going to laugh. People need to relate to the situation around them. People compare us with our counterparts abroad, they can talk about their presidents. An Obama for example would laugh about it and when he has the opportunity to go on stage, he talks about that comedian and makes reference to what the comedian said. He might even create his own version and life goes on.What is your opinion on Basketmouth's 'rape' tweet that went viral? The joke that my colleague shared was an existing joke that had been there for a while. Forget the fact that he came out to champion it and even put it on Facebook; a joke is a joke. These are realities that people have not come to terms with. Comedians did not invent rape, so if I talk about an existing situation in the country, I am calling the attention of those in authority to the problem so that they can take care of it. As I said, comedians are social commentators. The comical part of it, you can just act and re-enact. His tweet does not mean that he is a rapist or does anyone have a record that Basketmouth is a rapist? For a fact, he was talking about a topical situation. For instance, he said that in America, when you take a girl out on a date, day one, this is what happens. Day two, this is what happens but here in Nigeria, you spend this amount of money on day one, two, three and the girl is not forthcoming. The next thing is maybe the guy wants to go and take the girl by force. It is also a message for girls who always want to be collecting without paying. If I were a girl, I would know that if I collect on day one, I wouldn't do so on day two, so that things would not result in violence. Why can't people see it from that perspective rather than castigating a comedian who just cracked a joke.Is it true that you had an endorsement with a property firm and it gave you a house? There are so many stories behind any endorsement in Nigeria. Some are overrated and exaggerated to get some relevance in the industry. Some think pretending to have lots of money brings respect. In my own situation, yes I got an endorsement and it was good enough but my endorsement did not buy me a house. There are some stories that go round and you won't be in a position to talk but just let them fly. Tuface and I got endorsed by the same property firm. At the end of the day, it was not a question of AY getting a free house from the people. I worked so hard to save enough to the point of saying okay, your endorsement is worth this amount and I have some cash already so if we meet mid way, I can become a house owner.Stepping out to an event, what comes to your mind?Looking good is good business. I have to look good to represent myself and my brand. We are in an era where the social media is almost taking over from the traditional media. If I can socialise with you right here, all the person needs do is ask somebody to take a picture and the next thing, people are analysing what you are putting on. With all that consciousness in place, looking good and getting it right is very compulsory. What clothes are you more comfortable in?In recent times, I have begun going casual with Yomi Casual who is my kid brother. I have become so comfortable in them because it is easy for me to go to my closet, pick them up and look good. I don't need all the make-up like women. In 10 to 15 minutes, I am done. What addition does your wife put in your closet? My wife is a fashionista. She loves me looking trendy and anytime she sees trendy clothes, she gets them for me. I always tell her that all the tops she buys for me would make all the young girls in town to be going after her husband. She wants me to go out there looking young and smooth. I have come to enjoy that because the more I dress like that, the more I get all the necessary attention which is not to her benefit though. What fashion item do you love shopping for and can never get enough of?I love shoes. Though I have over 100 pairs, I still want to buy more and more. All I need is to find something that I like; it might be something similar to what I have in my closet but I would still buy it.You have over 100 pairs of shoes. Do you repeat shoes?Of course, there are shoes that match different attire and suits, so you have to repeat. But I don't do that often so that people won't say I am going broke. If you see me repeat a shoe and believe I don't have any other one and the best you can do is talk about it, I see you as an arm-chair critic. If you have an opportunity to go into my closet, you will be looking for an opportunity to withdraw your statement. It is believed that you are not one of the funniest comedians in Nigeria although your shows sell out. AY tells himself that he is not the funniest comedian; I don't even need to wait for people to tell me. People are entitled to their own opinion and AY as a person knows that he is not the funniest. But there are so many things that are put together to make you a brand. As the saying goes, talent is not enough; there are so many things that make up a talent. For example, you might be very good at Mathematics but when you want to write Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, you would also need English and some other subjects to pass the exam. When we do the general calculation and assessment, I don't think you have any reason to say that this guy does not qualify to be where he is today.

''A man moved from his one room apartment to a three bedroom flat, but unknowingly the new landlord is a member of secret cult that specialises in causing miscarriages for the tenants wives, making business hard for tenants, killing tenants family member through accidents and snake bites. But this young man moved in it with his wife, prayed and behold in the night he wanted to use the toilet because there was no light, but immediately he entered the toilet the light came back on and as he looked at the toilet seat of flat situated in the 3rd floor of a building in a very clean area, what he saw was a cobra waiting for him to sit. He shouted and started praying before they eventually killed it and burnt it to ashes. The next day the landlord died in his flat from machete cuts and traces of fire burns on his skin. This person no be my level"More below I remember living in a small room which my brother and I shared. Our bed was a mattress on the floor. The wardrobe had clothes overflowing to the floor and the room was littered with unwashed plates and half drunk pure water nylons. I was lying down as a broken fan did its best to circulate the air and she walked in and said hello. I felt as if I was dreaming.
