SHOCKER!!! Two Nigerian men caught with human head!! Posted: 21 Sep 2013 10:02 AM PDT Two men were on Friday in Ibadan paraded by the police for possessing a decomposing human head. One of the men, Seyi Akinola, was arrested in an ambush operation by the police while Ajitoni Ogundeji was named by Akinola as his accomplice in the crime.  Ogundeji, who is a farmer and a hunter, was alleged to have instructed Akinola to bring a human head to prepare a charm that would protect him from gunshot. Akinola, who is also a hunter, had complained to Ogundeji that he experienced frequent robbery attacks on the road whenever he travelled. While on hunting expedition at night about two weeks ago, Akinola allegedly saw the corpse of a  dead mad woman in a bush. He later cut off the head and hid it on a tree to decompose. Ten days later, he returned to pick the head at the place where he kept it but unknown to him, the community had alerted the police after discovering the head on the tree. After walking into the ambush, he was arrested and taken to the police station at Ojoo area of Ibadan. During questioning, he told the police that Ogundeji told him to bring the head to prepare anti-bullet charm. While speaking to journalists at the station, Akinola confessed to the crime. "I was caught with a human head by the police on Friday morning. I travelled a lot when I was working as a shepherd to a herd of cattle, but there are incidences of robbery attacks on the road. I told Ogundeji about it and he said he could do a charm for me against gunshot if I could get a human head."  Source Punch

Posted: 21 Sep 2013 09:26 AM PDT Popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, tells Ademola Olonilua about her career and relationship with colleague, Funke Akindele Where would you say you got your looks from? I would say I got my looks from my mother. If you see my mother's picture, I am sure you will know the answer to the question. How would you describe your taste? When it comes to my taste, I try to be very simple and not overdo it. I can say I am in between. I am not a very simple person and at the same time, I try not to go overboard. I don't wear things that don't suit me; I wear thing that I am comfortable in. How long does it take you to dress? It depends on where I am going. If I am going to a party, it will take me longer. Basically, I'll say it takes me about an hour to get dressed. The funny part of it is that if I have somewhere to go, the night before, I'll bring out like three clothes and some shoes to choose from. So, it makes it easier for me the next morning.  Do you ask your husband to help you choose what to wear? Yes, I do. Trust me, they are tired of me -my husband and my daughter. My daughter will tell me, 'Mummy it is okay' while my husband will say something like 'Darling, just choose one, they all look great on you'.  What are you working on? I just released a movie titled, 'Komfo'. But right now, we are working on the concluding part of my movie, 'Osas'. It is titled 'Osas reloaded'. I am also working on a series soap opera that will be in pidgin English and it will also feature some notable faces in the industry.  How did you come up with the idea for your movie, 'Osas'? I got inspired on the set of 'Papa Ajasco'. I was called by Wale Adenuga to be a part of the' Papa Ajasco' cast. Before then, I had never done comedy and when I was called, I asked myself if I could really make people laugh. I love challenges; when I was on set, I discovered that people that were behind the camera were laughing. So, it was then I knew I could make people laugh. I wanted to do a movie that I could use to reach out to my people because I am from Benin (Edo State). I just want people to know that there is a girl from Benin here even though I am more popular in Yoruba movies. At the same time, I did not want to leave my Yoruba fans and audience behind, so I just had to fuse the Benin language with Pidgin. I love pidgin. I am an Edo girl, so I love pidgin. After English, I can say pidgin is the next most popular language in Nigeria, so it was fun shooting 'Osas'. It took me three months to shoot the movie.  Is it true that 'Osas' is an imitation of Funke Akindele's 'Jenifa'? I actually heard that before 'Osas' came out. I think when people saw 'Osas', they had a different perspective. They said it before 'Osas' came out when they saw the promo. 'Osas' is a comedy and both are played by popular females in the industry. People just assumed. Yes, there are similarities, like the university setting, but I think that is about it. Is there any rift between you and Funke Akindele? No, there is nothing like that between us. We spoke about two weeks ago and on her birthday too. We are good friends and colleagues. People just come up with different stories because they know that controversy sells. We are friends. Why don't you feature in English movies? I did not set out to be more popular in Yoruba movies. To start with, I am a thespian; I am a University of Lagos-trained theatre artiste. I can say it is providence. I get called up by English movie producers but anytime they called me, I was always on set shooting a Yoruba movie. With time, because I am also a producer, I will not limit myself to just producing Yoruba movies. We are working on an English movie titled 'Taken'; we are going on set soon. I started with the English genre; I did some movies before I crossed over to Yoruba and got very popular. I used to tell my husband that when I started with Yoruba, I was not really fluent in the language, not to talk of reading the scripts. But I am good with language and very passionate about my job. With time, I got better and now I am a professional in speaking the language. Is it true that there was a time your father did not want to pay your school fees because you chose acting as a career? My father was of the school of thought that artistes then were layabouts. He actually had something against female artistes because he thought they were promiscuous and that they found it difficult getting married. That was what he thought. I was in the polytechnic; I was about 17 years old then. What does he think about your career now? My father and I are very close. When we talk, I tease him, I remind him that he did not want me to act but now I am married and still working. Thank God I am not disappointing him. He is very proud of me now. Anytime he sees me on posters, he calls me and prays for me. He only complains because he doesn't really understand Yoruba very well. He is not so fluent, so he complains that he always reads the subtitle. He asks why I can't do English movies so that it will be easy for him to watch. When he saw Osas, he was very happy. I am sure he did not know that I was going to come up with something like that. He was elated and very proud of me. He just kept saying that I should do English movies. What did your father want you to be? He wanted me to be an accountant. I love making my own money and spending my money. There is always this pride you feel when spending money that you made yourself. I was very good in mathematics when I was in school. I was very brilliant. He thought that because I was excellent in mathematics, I would be a very good accountant. I have an OND in financial studies. I was supposed to go for my HND but I decided to go for direct entry. I wanted to do what I had a passion for. There is this fulfillment that one gets doing what makes one happy.  Can you buy a handbag for N5m? I don't know. I cannot say the amount I can spend on an item. I love fashion. One thing about fashion is that when you see something you like, if you don't buy it, you'll not have peace of mind till you get it, no matter the cost. That is the kind of person I am, and that is why I cannot say how much I can spend on an item. Most times when I see things I like and I have the money, I buy. I am working hard and making my money. If it makes me happy, why not get it? We only have a life to live. At the same time, I also know that there are people that I can reach out to and put a smile on their faces. So what I do is find a way to balance both.  When you read negative reports about yourself, true or false, how do you feel? At times, they actually get to me; I will not lie about it. I am an emotional person. Before the story about my husband and I fighting broke, I had actually not had any scandal like that. When the story broke, I was shocked and asked myself why someone would do such to a fellow human being. The story just kept buzzing everywhere and I felt very bad. It got to me. Before then, I thought it was all part of the job, that whatever they wrote was their business. What pained me most about the story was that my daughter came back from school and told me that her classmates asked her if the story was true, if  her daddy and I fought. It was painful because she is a girl and someday she is going to get married. My father-in-law called me to ask me if it was true. That is why I had to do a video debunking the claims. How did your husband feel when he saw it? He felt very bad because the story also indicted him, saying that he was a wife beater. It painted him as a bad person but in all, I thank God that my husband was with me all through. He knew there was no iota of truth in the story. He also learnt that not all stories were true. That particular story actually got to me. Thank God it has passed, I am waxing stronger and my marriage is still strong. Do you still have that controversial dress in your wardrobe? After the story broke, I called my designer and said, 'Tokunbo, that cloth you made for me, did you see the story?' Anytime I see the dress, I have mixed feelings, I laugh and feel somehow. I have never worn it after that day; it has a story attached to it. You know the thing about these dresses once you wear them on the red carpet, that is it.

In a recent interview in Abuja, she talks about life before the house and what her future plans her. Life before Big Brother  Before Big Brother, I was into entertainment. Big Brother Africa was just a platform for me to do what I wanted to do. Before now, I wanted to be an actress, I wanted to be a reverend sister, but things did not just work out the way I planned it. Being a controversial housemate Going to the house, I didn't have any plan or strategy. I just went in there. While in the house, I used to be blunt every time, it used to be me living my normal life. The controversial side, I don't know because I used to be a very sweet person. On how she was never up for eviction I didn't do anything. I know that people picked my name but I wasn't bothered because I also got to pick one or two people. I knew when Natasha or anybody else picked me for eviction but I understood it was just a game. However, I was generally liked in the house because I'm a people's person. On her relationship with Angelo Me and Angelo were so business minded people, we think alike, we  do a lot of things together. We have projects we are working on together so, it was much like we went to BBA as individuals but we didn't come there to mark time. And now, we have a platform we have to use. Now, he is in his country but when there is something to do, we  will go together. It is not that we won't have our time but it's more of the business because we all came for something in our lives and since we have gotten  the opportunity, we should use it right. Her future plans School, my career-acting, so many things in next year let me feel I'm not sure what to say next because my voice is Ok

They include good script, experienced director, professional publicist, and most importantly, the big name stars. Of all the four, there is one a producer should never violate at the market place and that is the 'star' aspect of it. There could be a bad script, inexperienced director and not too good publicity for the movie but it is almost impossible to have Return On Investment (ROI) with un-bankable stars. Wikipedia defines a bankable star to be an actor famous or charismatic enough to be "capable of guaranteeing box-office success simply by showing up in a movie". It is common knowledge that a Will Smith will sell any movie no matter how bad as long as he has his face on the jacket. In Nigeria, some movie stars have proven again and again that they can guarantee return on investment as long as their faces adorn the poster. They are Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele and Nse Ikpe-Etim. Or how else could one explain the success of box office hits like Mirror Boy, Ije, and Tango With Me all having Genevieve Nnaji starring in them? And what about Figurine and Anchor Baby which both starred Omoni Oboli as the lead actress? Mirror Boy, Tango With Me, Last Flight to Abuja and Phone Swap all had sizeable negative reviews, yet they topped the box office, made huge profit and left many Hollywood movies far behind. Here, The Entertainer takes a look at Nollywood's five bankable actresses, their earnings and what is possibly working for them. Genevieve Nnaji Topping the list of five is Genevieve Nnaji. Love or hate her, Genny as she is fondly called, has a way with cinema audiences that make them come back again and again for her movies. So far, Genevieve's starring in the movies has grossed over N83 million at the box office. Mirror Boy (described by the actress as her first major film and the first to put her at the box-office) made N18 million, while Ije netted N60 million turning out to be Nigeria's highest grossing movie ever. But Genevieve had to share the money with Omotola, who also acted alongside her. If the sharing formula is 50-50, then Genevieve gets N30 million of the total gross. Genevieve's next movie, Tango with Me went on to make N35 million. So, putting all the figures together, Genny remains at the head of the pack. What seem to be working for Genevieve are her enduring power, popularity and social media connection. The actress has been there for over a decade and is still waxing stronger. Her wine seems to taste better with age. Another plus for Genny is her popularity. Genevieve is hugely popular across Africa and most especially among the youths. Before now, she has been very active on the social media especially Twitter. She even had to put up a Facebook advert after reports emerged that some acts were ahead of her there. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Next on the list is Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde with box-office gross of N60 million. She made N24 million with Last Flight to Abuja, N6 million from Private Storm and her N30 million share in Ije bring her total earning to N60 million. This year alone, no actress has made as much as N24 million from a single movie; Funke Akindele would have done so with The Return of Jenifa but the movie hit the box office in 2011. Omotola, who was reported to have been paid N5 million by Tarila Thompson all in the bid to make his movie a blockbuster, has been described as the biggest box office actress of 2012. She recorded successes back to back but it remains to be seen if she can pull off the box office magic again with Amina and other movies coming in 2013. Omotola has been an A-list actress even before Genevieve got her first big break and so what has been working for her is the wise investment in her brand. Her enduring presence and unceasing contact with her fans via the social media has made her popular even in an environment where a mother of four like her is not fashionable. Funke Akindele Surprisingly, the third person on the list is Funke Akindele, a young lady who rose to fame in I Need To Know, a TV series, and went on to earn a monstrous fame with Jenifa. Funke is an unlikely candidate on this list. Now, how can one explain that she is third on a list parading heavy weights like Omoni Oboli, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Stephanie Okereke among others? So far, Funke has made over N56 million, netting over N20 million in 2012 alone. In The Return of Jenifa, Funke netted N35 million. The movie ran till February 2012. Her movie, Married but Living Single made N9.9 million while Maami made N11 million. The actress is on her way to another cinema glory with a movie, A Wish. Let's hope she will be able to wave the magical wand again and create a box-office success. For Funke who recently got married, the plus factor for her is her huge popularity among the masses and elites. Her movie, Jenifa cuts across all social groups with the street parlance in it becoming the mode of communication in social gathering. And as an icing on the cake, Funke has moved upscale, she is now the toast of events organized by the rich and not so rich. Her box office credibility transcends the cinema as all DVDs parading her face turn into gold. Omoni Oboli Omoni Oboli, who is still largely unknown to those who don't patronise the cinema and social media, is fourth on the list. She is a silent achiever. Before the trio of Genevieve, Omotola and Funke even dreamt of hitting the box office, Omoni Oboli already took the lead. Figurine, her first box office appearance made N13 million while her second effort, Anchor Baby made N18 million bringing her total earning to N31million. Omoni's strength is her exclusivity and knack for quality. It is a known fact that if the project is not big and ambitious, Omoni might not do it. The disadvantage of that is, despite her box office credibility, Omoni is still unknown in areas where there is no access to cinemas. Perhaps, that is the reason she tries to make up with the red carpet presence. For now, the exclusivity is working for Omoni; perhaps her new movie, Broken and other works will introduce a new twist. One other thing that should not be forgotten is the unprecedented publicity of Anchor Baby in 2010. The film also had Omoni at the forefront of meeting and greeting of fans at the cinemas. Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke should readily make the list but they haven't appeared at the cinemas more than once. Hopefully, Rita will break into the list with The Meeting, Lion of 76 and Street of Calabar while Stephanie already had N10 million under her belt with Through the Glass. Of course, there are exceptions to the rules. A bankable star makes easier the job of a producer; the absence of one, however, is not a ready-made doom for a movie as Avatar and Slumdog Millionaire (both global box office hits) have shown. Posted: 21 Sep 2013 05:50 AM PDT A former 'teacher of the year' accused of having sex with a student when he was 12 denied the allegations today and told the court the 230 pages of racy texts they exchanged were part of 'sexual therapy' she was using to help him. Married mother Ethel Anderson, 30, from Riverside, Florida, is accused of having a three-month sexual relationship with the boy when she was supposed to be tutoring him. The alleged victim, now 14, who has not been named, testified today that the alleged abuse started four or five weeks into their tutoring sessions when she would kiss him and perform oral sex on him. Married mother: Ethel Anderson, 30, from Riverside, Florida, is accused of having a three-month sexual relationship with a student when she was supposed to be tutoring him Emotions: Anderson wept in court as her alleged victim talked about how he loved her like a girlfriend during their three-month affair He told the court: 'I felt like she was a girlfriend, I loved her and she said that I was her boyfriend and she loved me. She would rub on my legs, kiss on my ears, neck and stuff like that...We would tongue kiss.' Anderson faces nine felony counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and turned down a 15-year prison deal followed by 15 years of probation Anderson, who worked as a language arts teacher at Mango Elementary School, cried as she listened to the teen's testimony and denied the charges when she took the stand. When confronted about the 230 pages of racy text messages she said they were just sexual therapy that she was using on the 'troubled student' to motivate him. She told the court: 'At the time, with him struggling with school and having behavioral issues and anger issues, acting out at home and not being able to connect with his family, the way that he and his parents felt, that was my purpose. To gain his attention and, yes, I did it in an inappropriate way.' The mother-of-one claims the boy would threaten her, telling her things like, 'keep playing you're gonna lose your child'. The boy also told the court that he did not want to lose his virginity to a teacher and would tell her to stop, but she persisted because she 'wanted him so bad', ABC reports. The parents of the young boy were suspicious of their son's close relationship to the Anderson and tipped off police.   Wearing a wire, the boy's mother later confronted Anderson, when she admitted having oral sex with him. The tape was played to the jury. Accolade: In 2011, Anderson was named as Teacher Of The Year at Mango Elementary School in Florida, where she was a language arts teacher In her testimony, Anderson testified she only admitted to sex acts in the secretly recorded confession by the boy's mother, only because that is what she thought the mother wanted to hear. Anderson faces nine felony counts of lewd and lascivious molestation. The 30-year-old turned down a 15-year prison deal followed by 15 years of probation.
