5 Ways For New and Not So New Parents To Cope With Baby Crying At Night Posted: 19 Sep 2013 11:01 AM PDT Waking at 2am, then feeding, carrying, diaper changes, cooing, and burping a crying baby are things new and not so new parents have to get used to in the first year of their child's life. Getting a good night's sleep within the first six months of having a child may be just a dream. I was reading a post on Wives Connection about a lady who was about to have a baby soon and needed recommendations on what to buy and where. The first congratulations came with the disclaimer, get ready for sleepless nights. I laughed when I saw that because it's absolutely true. I was there for a week when my cousin's baby arrived, and when we spoke some days ago, she was only beginning to have her full night sleep. While every baby is different, many babies can sleep five hours straight by the time they reach 3 months of age, while by 6 months of age, they can sleep nine to 12 hours straight, according to the Mayo Clinic. But until they get to that stage, parents have lost a significant amount of sleep. Here are some strategies that can help you cope, and catch up before exhaustion creeps in. 1. Make sure mom and dad are sharing night time duties, and if there's a helper, like a grandma or any other relative, parents should try to let go sometimes. 2. If mom has been doing all the work, then she should hide one day. Naughty right? Yes, desperate times call for desperate measures. 3. OK, maybe #2 is not so feasible. Why not ask nicely? Go away for a night if you can to a friend's place or your parents or even a hotel room while your partner or mother stays with baby. Just make sure you're not in the same house. 4. Not doable? Sleep early. How about that? Whether baby is asleep or not, once it's 5pm or 6pm, go to bed and wake for the next feeding time. 5. Put on the TV or Radio. Play music or a cartoon that will distract baby or calm and soothe him or her. Congrats to all new and intending mothers reading this. For the old hands among us, what else would you add?
She Will Not Take Husband's Name - What's Worst Surname You Can Imagine? Posted: 19 Sep 2013 11:01 AM PDT Kate Winslet married her longtime boyfriend Ned back in December last year and the couple are happily expecting their first child together. Guess his surname, Rocknroll! Since their marriage, there has been a lot of jokes about her husband's surname, and speculations on whether she would change her surname to Rocknroll. When the Telegraph asked her about a name change, the actress, who has been married twice before and not changed her name both times, replied; "I was never going to change my name to Rocknroll. I've never changed my name to anything so I didn't see a reason to start now…I quite like Kate Winslet; in fact I think it's very flashy. I'm proud of my name because I'm one of three girls and we have one boy in our family so essentially the only person who is going to carry the name along is my brother and he doesn't have any children at the moment." BTW, her husband Ned was not born with that surname, he just thinks "people take themselves too seriously" so he legally changed his last name to "Rocknroll" in 2008. What do you think of the name Rocknroll? Do you love your surname or are you among those who breathed a sigh of relief when you got married and could change your name, or you can't wait to get married to do so? What's the worst surname you can't imagine changing your surname to? Will you reject a potential suitor because of his surname?
Kerry Washington Named World's Best Dressed Woman by People Magazine Posted: 19 Sep 2013 09:06 AM PDT Kerry Washington has over the past couple of years taken over as a style maven, especially after she became Olivia Pope on "Scandal". Now, the actress has been named the world's best-dressed woman by People magazine. In her cover of Flare Magazine, she says of her red carpet adventures, "The red carpet is good marketing. When you work so hard, you should stand behind the project in a way that magnetizes people. So I, like a good, only-child student, studied fashion and decided I was going to play that game, and fell in love with it, and with the artists and designers." Kerry walked the runway at the New York Fashion Week for Heidi Klum's Project Runway, and one thing that has remained consistent is her demure, feminine style as noted by People Magazine. Congrats to her.
Ears, Lips, Eyes - What Facial Feature is a Turn Off in a Potential Date? Posted: 19 Sep 2013 11:02 AM PDT Science strikes again. Supposedly men with wide faces can be selfish, worse, they can also make those who are around them and who interact with them act selfishly as well. I don't know if how men with wide faces are supposed to feel about this, and if it will mean that ladies will think twice before giving a wide-faced potential date or suitor a chance. But the news got me thinking. We've talked about the first things ladies notice about men, and vice vera, the first things men notice about women. Other than that, most people will rather concentrate on the attributes of the other person, though some commenters were not happy with our seeking for wifey guy, here, they felt he asked for too much, too many 'musts' as someone put it, lol... But that's a post for another day. There are some also who look out for the initial attitude of their potential date, do they look angry, tense, smiling, bark their words, roll their eyes, etc. Getting right down to the nitty-gritty, what is that one feature on the face of the guy that makes you say no when he asks, can I have your number? For guys, what is the feature that makes you turn away after admiring a lady and she turns to face you? Vote Below!
Couple Love - David Beckham Tattoos Victoria, his Wife's Name on the Back of His Hand Posted: 19 Sep 2013 07:25 AM PDT David Beckham and his wife of 14 years, Victoria, Posh Spice of former Girl Band, Spice Girls are always very fashionable and in the past few years, they have become almost inseparable at events and on the red carpet. These pictures were taken at a recent outing to a Global Fund Party. I salute them for keeping their home - I'm sure they've had their fair share of celebrity marriage problems - but now that David Beckham has tattooed "Victoria" across the back of his right hand, this love seems to be forever. Viva Forever!

Toddlers and Tiaras No More - France Senate Votes To Ban Kid Beauty Pageants Posted: 19 Sep 2013 01:39 AM PDT While I support beauty competitions, I believe they should be for adults, and with the introduction of Male Pageants, I doubt anyone can still point to gender bias in such contests. But pageants for little girls, and especially in the way they are carried out, still leave a lot to be desired. Well, France seems tired of such sexualization of their children and the senate has just voted to ban beauty pageants for children under 16, and anyone who enters a child into such a contest would face up to two years in prison and 30,000 euros in fines. Most people have experienced child beauty pageants through the American TV show, Toddlers and Tiaras, girls in tight dresses, high heels who twerk on stripper poles, SMH. Honey Boo Boo got her own TV show from participating in such pageants, and still contests. The AP reports that while such pageants are not as common in France as in the United States, girls get the message early on from them that they are sexual beings, from the advertising and marketing campaigns of the pageant organizers and even some department stores sell lingerie for girls as young as 6. "The foundations of equal rights are threatened by the hyper-sexualization that touches children ... between 6 and 12 years old," said conservative lawmaker Chantal Jouanno, who authored the amendment. Can you see the bias? I think the law is a commendable one and I hope the legislation, which must yet go to the lower house of parliament for further debate and another vote, gets passed. And I think America should follow suit.
