He actually listed the names of some powerful Igbo ladies he's slept with. Is that cool? Sure enough, some Nigerians took to Twitter to attack him for the name calling. Meanwhile, former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has called on the government to arrest Femi Fani-Kayode, over his articles. Tweets continue after the cut    Femi had written: Those that call me a tribalist and an Igbo-hater are simply misguided and ignorant. Perhaps they do not know the meaning of those words or the true import of their meaning. I was not a tribalist when I had a long-standing and intimate relationship with Miss Bianca Onoh, an Igbo lady, who later married Colonel Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu the leader of Biafra and who is now our Ambassador in Spain. | Man Kills Himself In Hospital Room After Wife Gives Birth Posted: 14 Aug 2013 05:57 AM PDT  "Family members said he has been distraught recently," Houston police spokesman Mr. John Cannon said on August 12, 2013, Monday. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, shot himself in a private room at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital in Northwest Houston on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Cannon said. The medical staff tried to save his life, but died shortly after being transported to another hospital. His wife, who gave birth earlier on Sunday, was not injured, and Mr. Cannon said the baby was not in the room at the time. Although Texas has a law allowing licensed firearms owners to carry concealed weapons, they are prohibited in many places, including hospitals. Police did not know what kind of gun was used. A spokesperson from the Houston Methodist Hospital would not comment on the incident. | ||

| Soldiers Beat Policeman To A Pulp In Delta Posted: 14 Aug 2013 05:22 AM PDT  Soldiers on Monday, in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State attacked and injured police officers from Delta State Police Command, who were on escort duty with the state Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu. A police corporal who drove one of the police vehicles, was beaten to a bloody pulp by the soldiers for allegedly blaring siren in the premises of the Warri North Local Government Council, which is close to a military outpost. He fainted in the process and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Sources say junior police police officers were planning a showdown with soldiers in the state, as they said it has become a tradition for them to attack police officers in the state without justifiable reasons. Confirming the attack, State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said the soldiers accused the police officers of blaring siren inside the secretariat of the council. "It is sheer brutality. I have reported the matter to the Inspector General of Police and contacted army authorities in the state, but they said they did not authorize the assault. "They told us that there is no bad blood, but there is bad blood. Why did they attack fellow uniformed men in such a manner in the course of their duty? We are making a formal report on the incident. "My stand is that the soldiers responsible for this attack should be fished out and made to face the music." "The police officers from the B' Operations Department of the Delta State Police Command were on escort duty with the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu. It was an empowerment programme for the less privileged by the state government and because she was carrying some money for the programme, they requested police escort," a source told Vanguard. "As it is usual on such occasion, the siren was on when they entered the premises of Warri North Local Government Coucil and about eight soldiers came from a nearby outpost and asked the police driver, Corporal Ekome, to frog-jump. "The police officer that led the team came to tell the soldiers that they should stop the confrontation, but the soldiers attacked him, seized his rifle and tore the button on his uniform. "With the atmosphere charged, more soldiers joined their colleagues and insisted that the police driver must frog-jump, which he resisted. "The soldiers descended on him, ignoring the appeal from other police officers to stop creating a bad impression of Nigeria security officials in the eyes of the public. "Some of the policemen wanted to retaliate, but were prevailed upon by the crowd, which watched the show of shame with dismay. "The commissioner was shocked by the incident as she stood watching without knowing what to make out of the ugly show of power," the source said. | ||

The 20-year-old from Harbin, China had climbed out on the couple's balcony after a fight with her partner and had crawled out onto a washing line, threatening to jump. Edo Teacher Can’t Read own Certificate Posted: 14 Aug 2013 05:11 AM PDT  There was a mild drama yesterday at the centre for the verification of certificates of primary school teachers in Edo State as a teacher in Asologun Primary School, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Benin City, Mrs. Augusta Odemwinge, could not read a sworn affidavit she tendered as part of her credentials. State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who paid an unscheduled visit to the state Staff Training Centre venue of the exercise, was appalled that a teacher could not read her own document, saying; "If you can't read, what do you teach the pupils, what do you write on the board?" State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Comrade Patrick Ikosimi, who was also at the venue to monitor the exercise, said the teacher's failure to read her own document was "an embarrassment." On arrival at the centre, the governor took time to peruse some of the teachers' credentials and documents presented. When Mrs. Odenwingie took her turn for the exercise, the governor, who listened to her defense, asked her to read the affidavit she presented, however, she was stuttering and was unable to read coherently, reading as if a kindergarten were learning to read, to the consternation of everybody around. Comrade Ikosimi, who described Odemwingie failure as an embarrassment, said the union was in tune with the state government on the need to sanitise the school system. He said: "We are committed to partnering with the government to reposition education in the state. What this teacher has just displayed is a show of shame; it shows the decadence in the education sector. "As the chairman of NUT, I have written to the governor that we are in total support of what he is doing. He should properly involve the NUT so that together, we can fish out those that are not viable so as to sanitise the system," he said. It will be recalled that at a televised town hall meeting on education on August 1, Governor Oshiomhole has disclosed an audit carried out by the state Information and Communications Technology Agency showed that 789 out of 1, 379 teachers obtained Primary School Leaving Certificates before the age of eight or nine years old. The governor further disclosed that only 1, 287 teachers representing nine per cent of 14, 484 total number of teachers in the state have accurate and proper records. About 91 per cent have various forms of discrepancies in their records, according to him. Meanwhile, three female teachers, Mrs. Patience Osadolor, Momodu Aisha and Patience Oroghene, who were kidnapped at gunpoint in Orhogbua Primary School in Ovia North East Local Government Area penultimate Tuesday have been released unhurt. Our correspondent reliably gathered that the kidnappers released the victims after allegedly receiving N7 million ransom. However, the payment could not be confirmed from authorities of any of the security agents in the state even though a family member, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed the payment. | ||

Thiefs Nabbed Posted: 14 Aug 2013 04:59 AM PDT  Men of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have recovered a Honda car allegedly stolen at the premises of the Catholic Church in Area 3, Garki, Abuja. The police, according to our source, were said to have sent signals about the stolen vehicle with registration number EX 421 ABJ after it was reported at the Garki Police Station to have been removed from where it was parked by the wife of the car's owner. The source added that, few days later, the owner of the stolen vehicle received a call from one Simon in Kubwa that two men, who claimed that the owner of the vehicle was sick had wanted to raise money by selling the car. The caller, who according to our source, was said to have gotten the phone number of the owner from a bank teller in the vehicle, informed him that upon agreement of a sum N150,000, a part payment of N90,000 was given to the suspects. "He said when he paid the money, he was uncomfortable and decided to search the vehicle and was able to find some items including a bank teller in the car which made him become suspicious of the deal. He consequently called the phone number on the bank teller which happened to be that of the car owner. The owner of the vehicle then advised him to play along with the car sellers, he then immediately contacted the police," the source said. The suspects, the source added, were arrested by the police when they went for the balance of the agreed sum. When contacted, FCT police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, confirmed the arrest and stated that when the car was brought to the man to buy, he was suspicious. "But upon hearing the price, he was surprised and called a police officer, who interviewed the suspects. They told the officer that the owner of the car needed money. So they decided to buy the car but the buyer was not still convinced, he took it upon himself to search the car. Unfortunately, the car was stolen from a church premises, so the buyer searched the car and saw a number. He decided to call the number and eventually discovered that it was the owner's number he called," the PPRO stated. She said the suspects were eventually arrested and upon interrogation they confessed to the crime. "They said the planning of the crime took two weeks. They said after taking the vehicle, it was kept in Kubwa and then a buyer priced it but he could not pay, so another buyer was sorted for. They also confessed to have used a master key to open the vehicle,'' the police woman said. The police spokesperson said investigation is still ongoing on the matter. | ||
| Church (SDA) Suspends Couple For Dancing To "Worldly" Music Posted: 14 Aug 2013 04:55 AM PDT  Tinevimbo Maphosa and his wife, Moreblessing Sibanda were suspended from active participation in church programs. Church elders are said to be angry that the bride, Sibanda was doing 'get down' at her wedding held at Reynolds Inn on 7 July. Maphosa and Sibanda are not the only casualties of the church's decision. Three members of their bridal team who are also youths at Sizinda SDA were affected. Mayibongwe Ncube, Tinotenda Nyakawa and Wellington Gurajena were given six months censure and two years ban for taking part in the wedding and dancing to circular music. B Metro reported that the songs which are Follow the leader by Dj Cyko ft zahara, Dj Ganyani ft Busiswa's Xigubhu as well Dr Malinga's via Orlando. Maphosa refused to comment on the matter but sources said church board members banned him and his wife but exonerated the wedding committee which gave permission to the playing of music. The development has created apostasy within Sizinda SDA church. Youths are now accusing church board members and elders of tribalism and favoritism when it comes to instituting disciplinary decisions. Irate youths took to social networking site to express their disgust over how the respectable church has gone to the dogs. An angry youth Wellington Gurajena posted: "For so long I have been quite but enough is enough. Just because I am young, I am SHONA and I don't have a father doesn't mean I am subject to someone. Today Sizinda church passed out a judgment that the following trio; Mayibongwe, Tinotenda Nyakawa and Wellington Gurajena were given six months censure and two years ban for participating in weddings and for dancing to circular music." Sacarstically, Gurajena inquired if the censure is constitutional or it was targeted move. "Lol is that constitutional or it was a targeted move. To me that was a clear sign of NEPOTISM and TRIBALISM just because it was Shona wedding now it's a crime. We saw the Moyos, Ndlovu's Ngwenyas, Mhlangas wedding and by then oh circular music was a cherry of the day and no one complained." The youth went on to accuse church board members and some elders of being the untouchables because some have girlfriends while others go clubbing but have never been brought to book as per church doctrine. He said when a church elder take funds from the church for personal use they are not censured, when a senior member of the church sits and chants vulgar at public places like political rallies and soccer matches they are not censured and also when a senior member of the church beats someone in front of the church and kids they are not censured. A source said there are stinking levels of favoritism at the church because relatives of senior members of the church have become pregnant outside of marriage and have never been censured. Youth also accused church board members and elders of sleeping around and getting away with it because they sit on lofty perches and look at others especially youth with disdain. While most youths were visibly angry, some tried to be voices of reason. "STOP IT, I repeat STOP IT this whole scenario is making me feel sick. This is not the proper way of solving church issues. Let me warn you my brothers and sisters I don't give a sh** whether Wellington is right or wrong nor the church is right or wrong nor Ndebele nor Shona, whatever the issue might be ,but this is not the proper way of handling church issues. I am very disappointed," Prince Moyo wrote. Another youth, Kelvin Mthabisi Moyo said the matters arising have the potential of triggering a war within the church. "Uhm Welly this is controversial and surely, the church will divide. World war was triggered by a 16 year old if I am not mistaken," Moyo said. A church elder only identified as Banwell refused to comment on the matter referring all the questions to the person who brought the story. "I can't say anything to you.
