No fewer than 14 persons on Thursday lost their lives in an auto crash on the Benin-Okene Highway.

NAN reports that the incident, which occurred around the Ewu slope in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo, involved a 15-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Edo City Transports Service and an articulated vehicle.

The truck, which was said to be coming from Abuja ran over the bus, resulting to death of all passengers on board.

An eyewitness, Mr Ben Omoede, said that the incident occurred when brakes of the articulated vehicle failed.

"The truck lost brake and ran over the Toyota bus coming from the opposite side, killed the 13 passengers and the driver,'' he said.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Red Cross evacuated the corpses to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo.

Mr Mike Odiahi, the Chairman, Edo Central branch of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, who was at the scene, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

"Fourteen dead bodies have been recovered and they have been taken to the mortuary at Irrua Specialist Hospital,'' he said.

Odiahi lamented over frequent accidents around the Ewu slope and advised road safety officials to ensure regular patrol in the area to prevent further accidents. (NAN)

Unbelievable! Boy confesses Boko Haram Gave him N2,000 to Burn Down houses in Borno village!

A young man, named, Ibrahim Tilitili was said to have been paid the sum of two thousand Naira (N2,000), to burn down few houses at Mandara Girau village in Biu local government area of Borno state.

Ibrahim, Chibok by tribe and resident of Mandara Girau village confessed that one Mallam Sani also a resident of the Village gave him the amount and instructed him to set some of the houses in the village on fire.

According to residents of the village, Ibrahim had succeeded in setting ablaze three houses and scare the people of the village who started running for their lives to safe heaven before some brave young men pounce on him, when they realized, it was a lone attack.

On realizing that, he was somebody they know in the village, they wanted to killed him, but some elders intervene and he was arrested and taken to Sarkin Baka- renown hunter in Biu town, where he made confession that, he was actually paid by Mallam Sani who is also resident of the village to set those houses ablaze.

Our Correspondent learnt that, after he was interrogated by Vigilantee leader (Sarkin Baka) in Hausa langauge and made the confession, he led the men who arrested him to his paid master, who was also arrested and handed over to police in Biu town.

7 Sure Ways To Know If Your Boyfriend Is Going To Be Rich!

Ladies, not every guy is a member of the lucky spe.rm club. Not every poor guy today is worth investing in. Some are simply hopeless and will never hit it big. Some are purely millionaires in the making. But to spare you from waking up one morning realizing you've invested your time, effort and youth for nothing, here's the rule of thumb I've used to sift out good penny stocks.

1. He knows he is good at something.

Knowing his worth is usually the first step towards wealth creation. Baby-sitting, baking, gardening or whatever so long as he recognizes that the skills he honed are exchangeable for money.

2. He is self-disciplined.  

He has the ability to concentrate on future financial goals without swaying from everyday tasks that will lead him there. No matter how boring or unpleasant.

3. He blames himself, not others.  

He thinks it's always his fault. Either partially or entirely. It might seem a little sadistic but it's him actually knowing that he has control over his environment, decisions and ultimately his own future.

4. He lives below his means.

It doesn't mean he's a miser. He chooses to accumulate more wealth rather than to succumb to short-lived pleasures of buying a Rolex or a BMW. Someone in the relationship has to make this sacrifice at the beginning. If not him, who else?

5. He is a doer. 

He doesn't blabber on and on about how he is going to do something great. He just does it. He doesn't complain about doing stuff. He just does it.

6. He is extremely curious.  

He takes time and effort to figure out the nuts and bolts of why things work or don't work. Opportunity sometimes arises when he stumbles upon an unserved niche.

7. He is thick skinned. 

He has the balls to execute his crazy plans. Whatever they may be. Failure doesn't concern him. Or should I say he isn't afraid of being laughed at if he didn't succeed. He repeats 6 and tries again.

Investing in men is largely based on intrinsic value. You'll win some and you'll lose some. But when you do win, make sure you win big. So good luck ladies.

Staying in a hotel made entirely of salt - from the walls to the beds - is definitely bound to leave you thirsty. Guys, check out the Palacio de Sal hotel which was built from one million blocks of salt over a two-year period and sits on the world's largest salt flat, the Salar de Uyuni.
Everything from the walls and floors to the beds and tables have been carved out of salt taken from the Salar de Uyuni salt flat. Even the quirky retreat's swimming pool, tables and chairs in the dining room and nine-hole golf course are made from sodium chloride.

Creator Don Juan Quesada dreamt up the idea of the world's first salt hotel as it was the most abundant building resource in the area. And the Palacio de Sal was first built in the mid 90s but had to be dismantled in 2002 before being rebuilt.

There are, however, strict rules for guests to the 30-room resort, such as 'don't lick the walls' as the hotel is somewhat fragile and has to be repaired after each rainy season sweeps in and dissolves parts of the construction. Following our march to meet with President Jonathan, during which he was represented by a delegation led by the Secretary to the Government, a speech was read on his behalf advising our movement #BringBackOurGirls, Abuja Family: "…that protests should be directed at the terrorists…".

Last Monday May 26th , being the 27th day of our daily gathering at the Unity Fountain and the 42nd day since the abduction day of our girls, we observed a large contingent of a new group that arrived in over 30 Federal Government SURE P Buses with a message that aligned with what we had been told during our meeting with the Federal Government delegation.

Understanding fully the constitutional guarantee of every citizens' right to their expression and to peaceful gathering, we continued with our own meeting in a new location, having lost our usual spot to the new group. Regrettably, we then witnessed patterns of escalating aggression toward our group by this new group.

In our bid at stemming any further aggravation, we wrote a Letter of Complaint dated 28th May to the Inspector General of Police and the FCT Commissioner of Police which was duly received by their respective offices. In our letter, attached to this Statement, we reminded the Nigerian Police that we have been a group, which has conducted itself with utmost civility in the course of our campaign for the abducted Chibok girls. We asked the Nigerian Police Force to be available to reprimand the aggressive group and remind them of the need to conduct themselves similarly and to desist from any form of confrontation to our group.

Unfortunately, what we feared would happen unfolded, and tragically with officers of the Nigerian Police Force looking on, thugs, hooligans, miscreants dressed in the red, yellow, and white t-shirts with the inscription: #ReleaseOurGirls Boko Haram" burst upon our group breaking chairs, and bottles on the heads of members of #BringBackOurGirls, Abuja, many of the women broke down. They snatched phones and handbags of ladies in our group and also attacked the local and international media correspondents, confiscating and breaking their cameras. The police, at a point, arrested two of the ringleaders, but before our very eyes, released them barely 10 minutes after.

By this Statement, we are calling the attention of the President, the Federal Government and the international community to the descent to anarchy against our group, which simply emerged as a women-led civil society group driven by a response to the plight of the abducted Chibok girls and their families.

We know that this is a violation of our fundamental right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association, but we remain resolute in standing with the Chibok girls. We invite every Nigerian with goodwill towards the abducted girls to our daily events. Tomorrow, we shall stand in solidarity with them through a National Symposium, which will be holding at Thisday Dome, with live broadcast on Channels TV. We shall return to the Unity Fountain on Friday, May 31, 2014 and will continue with our daily advocacy. We shall continue to demand that those with the responsibility to protect our lives and our welfare to BringBackOurGirls.

Parents Beat Child To Death In Lagos For Playing On Children’s Day, in Agege, Lagos state

On Children's Day while children were being celebrated worldwide, a Lagos-based couple allegedly chose to beat their little son to death for playing with friends.
Area residents told reporters on Wednesday that the couple allegedly killed their son because he was complaining of hunger after he finished playing with his friends.
Mr Paul Obiefule and his wife, Onyedikachi Mbanozo allegedly killed the little boy at their home at 22 Omitola street in Agege area of Lagos state Nigeria.
The 12-year-old boy was beaten to death around 2:30pm on Children's Day.
The couple's neigbhour, Mukaila Maliki said the boy had in the past been beaten to a coma and had to be hospitalised for a month.
"Paul Obiefule was arrested by policemen from Railway Police Station, Agege, and interrogated in connection with the beating of little Onydikachi, for a week before he was released during that first incident," said Maliki.
An eyewitness said the couple beat the boy to coma on Monday and took him to the hospital after he fainted.
On Tuesday morning, suspicious neighbours asked about the whereabout of the little boy, his mother said the deceased was inside the room. When questioned further, she alleged that the deceased was discharged the previous night.
Sensing that something did not just add up to the story they were being told about the boy, the neighbours promptly alerted the police.
When police got to the couple's home, they found the dead body of the little boy under the bed.
Police immediately arrested them and took the corpse of the boy to the station.
Lagos Police Spokeswoman, Ngozi Braide who confirmed the incident said the couple has been arrested and they're currently being investigated in detention.

Nigerian actor-cum-director Femi Ogedengbe and his wife of almost 2 years Nkechi welcomed twins yesterday, May 27.

According to fresh reports, the happy dad took to his Facebook page hours ago to share the big news. The twins, a boy and a girl, were delivered safely, said Femi and praised God for it.
He also thanked his wife, who is said to be feeling well, so as the twins.
It would be recalled that the couple is already blessed with one child, born in 2010.

According to reports, a leader of the Boko Haram sect, who was allegedly arrested by the local vigilante, has confessed to marrying 2 of the over 200 girls abducted from Chibok in Borno.
The suspect, identified as Hassan Ali, is said to have caught in Maiduguri, the Borno capital, while on a trip to buy yams from the market
Leadership reports:
Hassan Ali, a native of Kwapchi-Kilakise village who was said to have killed his biological father, Mallam Hassan Arigizhe, and his uncle, Zakariya Ali, was also said to have sanctioned the killing of his younger sister whom he forcefully took to Sambisa when she refused to accede to the s*xual demands of one of the Amirs (leaders) in Sambisa, an act that elevated him to the position of Amir too.

According to the officials of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Borno State, Hassan was arrested by the Civilian-JTF and members of the VGN when he was spotted in a car trying to leave Maiduguri for Benisheik, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway.

A VGN official said: "It was on the first day that we mobilised to Pilgrims Camp when we wanted to be given permission to go to Sambisa in search for the missing girls. When he was asked to identify himself, he pretended to be a dumb person. But those that knew him said he was lying and they started to beat him up; it was when he sensed death that he later confessed that he was a member of Boko Haram, and that he was sent to come to Maiduguri to buy yams worth N200, 000. He said he had finished his transaction and the truck had since left for Sambisa.

"When we asked him about the abducted girls, he said they were all fine, that none of them was being hurt or molested; he said as a matter of fact he was betrothed to two of them as wives due to his position as Amir. He said they eat good food there – mostly canned foods and canned drinks; they eat spaghetti, rice, smoked fish and yam.

"I was the one that personally interviewed him when he was arrested near Njimtilo at the outskirts of Maiduguri, towards Damaturu. I even took some jotting of his statement before we later left him with the Sector-6 officials of the Civilian-JTF. I did not take his photograph but some of our local hunters who had camera phones did. Unfortunately, all of them had gone back to their various localities after the state government had disbanded us last week."

LEADERSHIP cannot independently verify this report, even though many members of the Civilian-JTF in the state attested to such incident happening. None could tell the whereabouts of the Boko Haram kingpin, Hassan Ali.

Fellow Nigerians,

1. I greet and felicitate with you all, today, as we mark 15 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in our beloved country.

2. Our dear nation, Nigeria, has certainly come a long way and made notable progress since our first Democracy Day on May 29, 1999 when the military finally relinquished power and handed over to a democratically-elected government, marking the true beginning of a government of the people, by the people, for the people."

3. Although I have ordered a low-key commemoration of this year's Democracy Day in deference to the current mood of the nation, there can be no doubt that the past 15 years, the longest period of sustained democratic governance in our country, have been a blessing to us, as a people.

4. As we commemorate 15 years of our Fourth Republic today therefore, I believe that it is fitting that we pay tribute once again to all those who played a part in restoring our nation to the true path of democratic governance, built on the foundations of rule of law and freedom of expression.

5. As a result of our collective efforts since 1999, democratic governance is now entrenched in our nation and institutions. I wholeheartedly believe that our people are the better for it. The scope of fundamental rights and liberties enjoyed by our people overthe past 15 years has been expanded beyond measure.

6. On my watch, we have witnessed high national economic growth rates, steady improvements and expansion of national infrastructure including airports and roads, the restoration of rail transportation, the efficient implementation of a roadmap for improved power supply, a revolutionary approach to agricultural production, as well as advances in education, sports, youth development, healthcare delivery, housing, water supply and other social services.

7. In the oil and gas sector, our promotion of a sustainable local content policy, continues to guarantee equity and better opportunities for Nigerian entrepreneurs and skilled personnel.

8. Significant increase in mobile telephoneand national broadband penetration, making Information and Communications Technology (ICT) one of the fastest growing sectors of the Nigerian economy. We have also developed strong financial markets and regulatory institutions. Our banks now have regional and global footprints.

9. Nigeria has also gained recognition as the largest economy in Africa, the most preferred investment destination in the continent and in terms of returns on investment, the fourth in the world. We are pleased that the world has noticed, as global leaders converged in Abuja early this month for the World Economic Forum in Africa.

10. The event not only witnessed a record attendance, it brought the prospect of an additional flow of investment into the Nigerian economy estimated at over $68 billion over the next few years.

11. In foreign relations, our country has equally done well within this period, by establishing and strengthening strong partnerships with all ECOWAS countries and the rest of the world. This has helped to deepen Nigeria's leadership role in multilateral institutions including the United Nations.

12. Furthermore, under this administration, we have made consistent progress in improving the standard of elections in our country to ensure that they are ever more credible and truly representative of the people's free choice. The National Conference we initiated to deliberate and make recommendations on the best ways of resolving our current political and socio-economic challenges is ongoing. It is our expectation that its outcomes will help to further consolidate the gains we have made from democracy in the past 15 years, and place our dear nation even more firmly on the path to greatness.

Dear Compatriots,

13. It is a sad fact that as I address you today, all the gains of the past 15 years of democratic governance in our country are threatened by the presence of international terrorism on our shores. Our dear country, Nigeria is facing a new challenge. A war has been unleashed on us. Extremist foreign elements, collaborating with some of our misguided citizens, are focused on an attempt to bring down our country and the democracy and freedomwe cherish and celebrate today.

14. The despicable abduction of school girls from Chibok in Borno State has brought to the awareness of the entire world, the heartless brutality of these terrorists who want to instigate a descent into anarchy and balkanize our nation.

15. In recent years, terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of several of our compatriots, many have been injured or maimed, whole villages and communities have been destroyed and the economy of some of our states is in jeopardy.

16. There can be no doubt that what we are witnessing in Nigeria today is a manifestation of the same warped and ferocious world view that brought down the Twin Towers in New York, killed innocent persons in Boston and led to the murder of defenceless people in the Southern Russian city of Volgograd. Terrorist activities have brought war and pains to Mali, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. These agents of evil continue to brainwash and incite ignorant young men and women to attack the innocent. We cannot allow this to continue.

17. I welcome the statements of solidarity from patriotic citizens and the global community in support of our efforts to stamp out terrorism. I applaud the understanding that in a democracy, such as we are building, people can have differences while sharing worthy values and standing together in opposition to the scourge of terrorism. Nigeria is the only country we have and we must all work to preserve it for present and future generations.

18. Despite the challenges we face, we must commend our security forces. We must not forget their gallantry and successes in liberating nations and in peacekeeping, from Liberia to Sierra Leone, Congo, Sudan, Mali, Guinea-Bissau and many places in Africa and beyond. Our forces have paid the supreme price in several places at several times.

19. Today, they face a different challenge, an unconventional war by terrorists. They are adjusting and are being equipped to tackle the new menace of terrorism. We must show confidence in their ability. I have no doubt that, with the support of Nigerians, our neighbours and the international community, we will reinforce our defence, free our girls and rid Nigeria of terrorists.

20. It is now 45 days since the horrifying abduction of the college girls of Chibok. I share the deep pain and anxiety of their parents and guardians and I assure them once again that government will continue to do everything possible to bring our daughters home.

21. I am determined to protect our democracy, our national unity and our political stability, by waging a total war against terrorism. The unity and stability of our country, and the protection of lives and property are non-negotiable. I have instructed our security forces to launch a full-scale operation to put an end to the impunity of terrorists on our soil.

22. I have also authorized the security forces to use any means necessary under the law to ensure that this is done. I assure you that Nigeria will be safe again, and that these thugs will be driven away – it will not happen overnight, but we will spare no effort to achieve this goal.

23. For our citizens who have joined hands with Al Qaeda and international terrorists in the misguided belief that violence can possibly solve their problems, our doors remain open to them for dialogue and reconciliation, if they renounce terrorism and embrace peace.

24. My government, while pursuing security measures, will explore all options, including readiness to accept unconditional renunciation of violence by insurgents, and to ensure their de-radicalization, rehabilitation and re-integration into the broader society.

Dear Compatriots,

25. We must remain united to win the war against terrorism. Christians, Moslems, farmers, fishermen, herdsmen, teachers, lawyers, clergy or clerics, the rich, the poor and Nigerians from all sections of the country must work together with our security agencies and armed forces to overcome the terrorists who now threaten all that we hold dear.

26. The war against terror may be difficult, but the days of peace will come again. Terror is evil; nowhere in history has evil endured forever. The menace of Boko Haram will surely come to an end. I believe that because of your prayers, your courage, hardwork, faith and sacrifice, we will ultimately prevail over the terrorists and all other evil forces.

27. We are a strong, resilient and courageous people. We will continue to partner with the civilized world, to confront international terrorism and every other challenge that comes our way with patriotic zeal and determination.

Fellow Nigerians,

28. Yes, we have challenges but we will surely overcome. Nigeria is our country. Nigeria is blessed. We will all collectively protect, defend and develop this country for ourselves, and our children.

29. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

FRAUD: Deeper Life pastor, sentenced to 6yrs for Defrauding Old Woman

A pastor with Deeper life Bible Church and a former Brooklyn-based civil attorney Ifeanyichukwu Eric Abakporo, was yesterday May 28th sentenced to 6 years imprisonment by a US Federal High Court for defrauding banks, mortgage lenders, property owners, and property buyers in America.
Prosecutors say Mr Abakporo and his accomplice, Latanya Pierce, carried out the illegal transactions for over nine years. They were convicted in a wide-ranging series of illegal transactions in New York city over a 9-year stretch, dating back to 2003. His accomplice, Latanya Pierce was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.

Pastor Abakporo was immediately handcuffed out of the courtroom with his wife and his 2 children present in the court room wailing as he was taken away.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Paul Obiefule, for allegedly beating his 12-year-old relative to death.

Punch Metro learnt that Onyedika, as the boy was fondly called, was the son of Obiefule's wife's brother.

It was further gathered that the boy was beaten to death on Monday evening around 8.30pm, while the neighbours reported the matter at the Pen Cinema Police Division on Tuesday.

It was said that Onyedika, who was attending Irewole Primary School in Agege, could not go to school for several weeks before his death as a result of a sickness sustained from series of beatings.

One of the neighbours, who identified himself as Mr. Oje Owode, told our correspondent that the boy died from an accumulation of floggings which he received from his aunt's husband.

He said, "The man (Obiefule) usually flogged the boy like an animal. Most times, we tried to intervene, but he would not listen to us. The boy fell sick several times from Obiefule's merciless flogging. The last sickness was for over two weeks. And then on Monday again, the man beat the sick boy, and locked him up in the room.

"Later, we just saw that Obiefule and his wife went out of the house and did not return until around 5am. We noticed that he put a big bundle on his shoulder and smuggled it in with his wife.

"We did not know that the boy had died in the evening and they were looking for where to dump him all night. That was when we raised the alarm and reported him to the police."

Another neighbor, Mr. Fatai, said Obiefule usually used hammer, chisel or a screw driver to inflict pains on the deceased.

It was learnt that as soon as Obiefule was arrested on Tuesday, his two boys were taken to a c primary school on the next street. When our correspondent visited the school, the proprietress, who did not want her name to be mentioned, said Obiefule's two boys had not been spared from their father's wickedness.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest of Obiefule in an e-mail and added that the police had commenced investigations.

President Jonathan Says Government Is Ready To Dialogue With Boko Haram

President Jonathan has reiterated his administration determination to use all available options in handling the threat of terrorism in the country, including dialogue, de-radicalization, rehabilitation and reintegration of members of the dread boko haram that renounce terrorism and embrace peace.

This was made known by the president during his Democracy Day broadcast to commemorate 15th years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria.

"For our citizens who have joined hands with Al Qaeda and international terrorists in the misguided belief that violence can possibly solve their problems, our doors remain open to them for dialogue and reconciliation, if they renounce terrorism and embrace peace.

My government, while pursuing security measures, will explore all options, including readiness to accept unconditional renunciation of violence by insurgents, and to ensure their de-radicalization, rehabilitation and re-integration into the broader society," he said.

The president shared his thought with parents and guardians of the abducted Chibok girls, assuring them that the security operatives are working round the clock to ensure the safe release of the girls and reunite them with their families.

President Jonathan also enumerated some of his achievements in office, which include high national economic growth rates, steady improvements and expansion of national infrastructure including airports and roads, the restoration of rail transportation, the efficient implementation of a roadmap for improved power supply, a revolutionary approach to agricultural production, as well as advances in education, sports, youth development, healthcare delivery, housing, water supply and other social services.

The president paid tributes to patriots who made the sacrifice for the restoration of democracy in the country, noting that he ordered a low-key celebrations in deference to the current mood of the nation while enjoining the citizens to protect the gains of the Fourth Republic

Just In: Loud explosion Hits Abuja (See)

A loud explosion occurred in Kurudu, a community on the outskirts of Abuja, this morning.
The explosion caused panic in Kurudu, Jikoyi and other adjoining areas as residents scampered for safety.
A resident of an Army Estate in Kurudu, told PREMIUM TIMES that soldiers simply locked the gate and prevented anyone from going out upon hearing the loud explosion.
However, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Army confirmed that it was a controlled blast.
Mr.Olagide Olaleye, a Brigadier General told Premium Times that a rock had been blocking a new road being constructed from Karishi to Apo, in the Abuja city centre.
He said the rock was blasted, with dynamites, to free the road and allow construction to continue.
