Photos From President Jonathan’s Daughter’s Traditional Marriage In Bayelsa today!

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 12:23 PM PDT

The traditional marriage of Jonathan's foster daughter is currently going on in Beyelsa and here are some first photos courtesy of Maestromedia and Helen Ozor. The traditional marriage journey began last night Friday, April 4, 2014 at about 7pm, with the payment of bride price and exchange of gifts between the 2 families, it's part of the rites that must be observed. Though, it wasn't the main event itself, in attendance were the family members on both sides and a sprinkling of friends, the likes of Hajia Bola Shagaya, Senator Ben Obi, Ifeanyi Uba, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, Governor Liyel Imoke, some 1st ladies and many more.

The ceremony we heard started at about 7.30pm when the President and his beloved wife-Patience arrived at the venue of the event, which was a beautifully decorated marquee that had been erected in the President's compound. And things began in earnest. The groom's entourage from Cross Rivers State we heard was led by the Governor of his state Governor Liyel Imoke. As expected there was exchange of pleasantries between both families. The Edward's entourage was asked what their mission was and they stated it was about a beautiful flower in the Goodluck's vineyard that they had come to enquire about. Whom their son would love to have as wife forever.

From the initial intro to the fun haggling on the bride price, which started from 1 million and was finally pegged and agreed to at N50,000. Thereafter the agreement, the groom and family then went on to present many gifts to the bride's family and community.

The day's event was rounded off with the President speech inviting all and sundry to come back the next day (today) from 12 noon to finish what had begun the night before. And also so they the groom's family could come take away their wife, as it was too late on Friday for her to be released to them.

HORRIBLE!! Check-out Worst Face Tattoos Ever! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 10:17 AM PDT

#1 The Tax Man

Judging by this man's outfit and cheesy smile, he looks like he may be the type of person who would sell you a used car, or do your taxes, or maybe just suck out your soul and haunt your nightmares for the rest of your life.

 #2 Buyer's Remorse

When 18-Year Old Kimberley Vlaeminck got a tattoo of 56 stars on her face, she claimed that she only asked for 3 stars and sued the tattoo artist for adding 53 more stars after she fell asleep under the needle. After fielding some tough questions like, "How do you fall asleep while someone is tattooing your face?" She confessed that she was actually awake and had indeed asked for all 56 stars.

 #3 The Lost Blues Brother

Okay, I gotta admit, this guy actually looks pretty cool with his Ray Bans and sharp haircut. You have to give props to anyone who can get a horrifying face tattoo and still look so handsome.

 #4 Looks Can Be Deceiving

Don't judge a book by it's cover. For example, I bet you think this guy is some kind of criminal hoodlum. Well, ok, he did shoot a police officer with a handgun, but he's really a nice, sensitive guy. And ladies, he's single!

#5 So what are your hobbies?

Well, in a way it's good when people label themselves clearly so you don't have to guess what their horrible, crippling character flaws are. Thanks Mr. Crazy-Eyes, we'll hold onto your resume and call you if a position becomes available.

#6 No Mercy

This guy looks tough as nails. You know what else is tough? A little star trail. I'm sure right about now this man's parents are asking for mercy.

#7 Romney 2012

This guy is a wrestler from Indiana who was paid $15,000 to get a Romney tattoo on his face. He thinks the "stigma against the Republican party" will work to his advantage as a "bad guy" character in wrestling. What's more, this tattoo was a result of an eBay auction. So, no real NEED to make a joke here, this stuff writes itself.

#8 Property of Jolene

I'm guessing amongst Jolene's property you will also find a mobile home and a restraining order and a baby. Well, I really hope Jolene doesn't have a baby.

 #9 Eloquence

We've censored this to protect the innocent, but, as you can clearly see the buck stops with this guy. His no-nonsense approach and nonchalance are both admirable, and we look forward to his contributions both to society, and humanity, in the future.

#10 Catman Begins

I'm truly at a loss for words here. This person has successfully transformed him or herself into a cat, and also ruined their chance of ever seeking gainful employment. Good thing Fancy Feast is cheap.

Bukky Wright Finally Opens up on her failed marriage, ex-Husband, Children and 'wicked' in-laws!

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 08:49 AM PDT

47 year old veteran Screen Beauty, Bukky Wright has opened on why her marriage broke up and why she has chosen to forgive her ex and in-laws.

Read excerpts from her interview with Daily SUN below:

On ex-hubby

It was really tough. I thank God my mother and siblings were alive. My first child was six, or there about; they were quiet young them. At first I took them but they (husband and in-laws) took them back from me. I came into the movie industry because of my children, thinking that if they watched my movies, they would be able to know their mum. However, God was directing my part. Initially I was not allowed to see my kids but all that is over now. In retrospect I don't think that they were been wicked.

I believe it's the part that God wanted me to go through. Maybe, If I'd not gone through what I went through with my ex mother-in law, I may not have been equipped to understand a lot of things today. God was trying to prepare me for the future. I don't hate my in laws for what they did to me.

As a matter of fact, I respect them for training me the hard way. That has made me what I am today. I don't hate my ex mother-in law. I respect her and I see her as a strong woman whom I learned from.
A lot of people might say, 'Oh she's a wicked woman! They may even curse her for what she did. I don't hate the father of my children either. And I wish a lot of women will see things my way. Do not cry over spill milk. I'm an optimistic person.

If only those women criticizing me could wear my shoes and feel where it hurts they won't judge me. Later I spoke with my ex so he could let my kids spend time with me. He later agreed after much persuasion. They would come spend the weekend with me and I'd take them back to school on Monday. And after school I'd go back to school praying my husband won't go back to pick them. After a while he agreed to give me back my children because he was already married to someone else.

I think we were not meant to be. That's why the marriage failed. It's all about destiny. We women we are our own enemies. Men support and stand by each other no matter what. Women love to gossip and destroy other women they see as a treat.

On her kids

I'm a mother of boys; I have two boys. My first son would be 22 In December while the second is 19. My boys are now in the University in the USA.  And it's not by my making; it's the grace of God. I know of a lot of women who had the time and energy than I ever did and more money and everything but are no where today. It's only God that take cares of children.
I have always encouraged my children to come into show business. My first son, Olugbenga, who's schooling in the US sings and raps. I remember back then my mother used to say to me to look for another profession if acting could not put food on my table. This was because whenever I came back from location I still asked her for money.

S*x-for-role

We are all adults. If a producer asks you out, it's left for you to either say yes or no. We're all human. It happens everywhere. Do you want to do it because you have to or because you want to? I can only speak for myself. I have never been asked for s*x-for-role. Having said that, I'm an adult and I'm not a saint. Neither is any women out there, the saints are not yet born so why do we keep deceiving ourselves.

 Love advances

I'm a very private person. Most of the time such men become my friends. I just tell them 'I like you and I want us to be friends.' I have a lot of male friends. I don't call them names because I know they only appreciate me as a woman. It's now left for me to know how to handle it. The very stubborn ones just give up after sometime when they see that I don't budge; I just stop picking their calls. I'm very nice on the phone; I talk nicely and eventually when I stop picking the calls and I meet the person one way or the other I just apologize nicely.

On n*dity

How do you mean n*de? Like take it all off? We all wear transparent clothes that reveal our bras our under garments. We wear some tops called tissue top. We wear some laces that reveal our bodies. So as an actress, If I'm asked to take a role, I'm only doing my job. It does not mean that's who I am. I'm being paid to play a role as an actress that's very passionate about her job. The only thing I won't do is to reveal my private parts. But I can wear my bikini. If you have a good body, flaunt it. The only thing I don't like is when you flaunt what needs to be covered up. Work on it if you want to reveal it. If you know you want to reveal some parts of your body in a movie, work on it. If I cannot reveal, that doesn't mean another person can't. And don't forget, acting is make belief
I'm a script writer so I don't see any big deal in nudity. A lot of us reveal our bodies knowingly or unknowingly so why all the pretence?  The only thing I don't like is when the scene does not call for it. Take for example a pool scene and the script says bikini but you now sit by the pool in some funny looking leggings; it's not appropriate.

At Last! Obesere Finally Declared Innocent Of Rape Scandal!

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 08:49 AM PDT

Fuji music star, Abass Akande Obesere, embroiled in an alleged rape scandal has been declared innocent of the grievous offence.

According to a report, the Nigeria Police through Ms. Ngozi Braide, Lagos State Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, has given the Fuji musician, a clean bill of health on the rape scandal.

She stated that police investigations revealed that it was a case of frame-up and the accuser (Olanike Olaiya) is a "blackmailer and extortioner", thus absolved Obesere of any culpability.

"The investigation so far carried out shows that it was a frame-up because the lady has refused to honour police invitation. And we have a doctor's report that showed that she was not raped. Before you prosecute a case of rape, there are certain facts that must be proved," Braide was quoted.

She went further: "In our investigation, we are made to understand that this lady on her own went to Obesere's house in search of Obesere, and spent the night there. She was there cooking and everybody in the house ate. People in the house have equally come to make statements.

"I think there was mutual relationship between them. During the period she was in the house, they had canal knowledge of each other and she left him after which she went to the station to report that she was raped.

"Before she went to make such allegation, she had already contacted Obesere on phone to demand certain amount of money that she was bleeding and so on. The musician now referred her to a hospital where the doctor examined her and didn't see anything abnormal. And for further clarification she was advised to go for scan, after she left and never returned to the hospital."

On the whereabouts of the lady, Braide was quoted: "As I speak with you, with the address she left at the station, we have tried to locate her but we discovered it was fake. I think it is a calculated attempt maybe to tarnish the image of the public figure."

Braide said investigation is ongoing as to get to the root of everything. She said the police would not rest until the whole truth is unravelled.

Early last month, reports swirled around of a lady accusing the Fuji music star of having unlawful carnal knowledge of her in his Okota, Lagos home.

The lady also accused Obesere of inserting a ring in her vagina causing her to bleed as well as expressing fears of her becoming a victim of a diabolical act.

[MUST READ] 2face Idibia talk About The Lies and The truth About all the women in his life..

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 06:37 AM PDT

2face Idibia Who recently had an interesting chat with the Nation's newspaper - he bared his mind on life as a married man, the alleged scandals that have trailed his career for years and his relationship with his babies' mothers.

The best part was where he sweetly described Annie Idibia as a jealous woman "She loves me. So she must be jealous. If I am laughing with a particular girl too much or I am going the way that I am not supposed to go, or if one girl is following me too much, she will be there to caution me. She definitely has to be protective of her man. At that point she can tell such a girl, 'hold your side!' And if it is I that is doing it, she could tell me, 'cool down, I dey here o.'"

See excerpts below:

We read so much about you in the news. Would you say that those things we read about you are true?

A lot of them have been false, while a lot of them have been true. Some are true, no doubt, but a lot, like I said, are so false. It is like that, and it has been like that.

How do you feel when they are so false?

I am always then like, why should people be so evil? So evil like that? I tend to ask myself at that point why? People are so lazy that they cannot take time to seek out the truth! Take for instance your own medium; you have taken time to seek me out. I guess that is how it should be. If you ask questions rightly, of course, you will get answers. Sometimes though, those false stories amuse me. That is being famous for you! I take it in good strides. I do not let it affect my character.

You talk about false stories, which one can you immediately share with us?

Okay, there is this recent one, which has been in the news lately, which refers to me as having impregnated my account officer. In the first place, I do not know where that story emanated from. I don't even know where that story could have come out from. I don't know about it at all!

But the impression out there is that it is true…

Of course it is not true. Impression you said, but impression can also be in both ways. Initially nobody said whether it was true or not. So what I did was to correct whatever impression from my twitter page. But the story still went on. It is a serious matter because now I am married. So it is unfair for anyone to put out such story about me perhaps because they want to sell their medium or sell their blog. It is really totally unfair to me, especially now that I am married. If I wasn't married, we would have laughed over the matter. But now, I am. So I do not expect that people will play over such issues of emotion at this time of my life.

What does it feel like to be Tuface, to be famous?

It's not easy for me. But I feel say na me don go set myself up. I have gone out there to put myself up, so I have to live it. It is not easy. If feels good, but it is a lot of challenges, a lot of non-privacy. So many things are being flung your way, temptations, and if you are not careful, you get swept off by the evil tide. There are so many hazards in being famous and if you can't control yourself, you get carried away within a short time. It is not all smooth- sailing. I can tell you that it is not all glamour.
For instance, I enter into an event, a place and I walk straight to go and find a seat for myself to sit. But before I know it, some people will take it personal. Meanwhile if someone else does it, it is seen as normal and accepted. So when I enter a place, I have to move around first and greet people. That is why you see me say 'I hail o' each time I enter a place. But you know, it is not all the time that you are in a good mood to be so friendly. But because you are famous, whether you are in a good mood or not, you have to put on a smile and greet people. Else, if you do not do that as a celebrity, such things will make you to easily make enemies. You actually make enemies without even realizing it. That is the crazy part of being a celebrity and a famous person.

How has married life been? It has been a year already, isn't it?

Yes, it was a year on Sunday. And the wedding actually took place on a Sunday. It was like the same day all over again. So far so good, married life is cool. We don dey do wetin married people dey do. We don dey sidon together, we go laugh, we go quarrel small (laughs), we go come hold each other again as if no be us quarrel some moments ago. Life has been kind to us since we got married. We have been living happily ever after. I know we did the wedding in Dubai and some said they couldn't come. But I tell you, even if we had done it in Lagos, some people would still have missed it. The Dubai event was not an excuse for anybody to say anything. We did the traditional wedding celebration in Akwa Ibom State, in Nigeria after all.

Before you proposed, there were some other women in your life. Why is it Annie that you decided to propose to and marry?

I have been fortunate enough to have met a couple of nice ladies in life and two of them even have children for me. But I think that Annie and I understand each other more. As with matters of the heart, it is very difficult sometimes to find the right words to explain it. Somehow, you just know that this is the particular person that you want to stay with.

How do you handle the 'maturity thing' in marriage?

We try to live our lives our own way. We have never had cause to introduce the third party in our home. When we have a problem, we sort it out between ourselves. We don't call anybody in to come and solve our problems for us. We sit down and talk about it. Like I said earlier, sometimes we quarrel when both of us are stubborn over a matter. But we do not involve the third party!

Do the other ladies still hang around?

Definitely I have a couple of female friends, just like I have a couple of male friends. Boundaries are to be respected and if boundaries are not being respected, I have to voice a respectable apology and move on. But I think my friends know this. So they 'free' me.

Is your wife not the jealous type?

She loves me. So she must be jealous. If I am laughing with a particular girl too much or I am going the way that I am not supposed to go, or if one girl is following me too much, she will be there to caution me. She definitely has to be protective of her man. At that point she can tell such a girl, 'hold your side!' And if it is I that is doing it, she could tell me, 'cool down, I dey here o.'

How do you relate to your children from different women?

If you see me and my children together, you will think we are mates. That is how I relate with them.

And your relationship with your children's mothers?

We are good. We are peaceful, everybody is matured. We have a cordial relationship. One love always…

Looking at you, physically you have not changed much since you got married. One would have expected that you would have become bulkier in size. The face keeps remaining the same. How have you been able to keep fit and trim over the years?

I guess it is my structure. It is my nature. I am a lean person by nature. I do not do any dieting to remain in this shape. It is my natural structure.

And no protruding stomach…

(Laughs) I try to do exercise once in a while; I try to stay on top.

What is your best food?

Beans and yam (concoction, laughs). But there is one soup called ekpankukwo that my wife cooks for me from time to time.

It is been a long journey from where you are coming from. Looking back, how do you feel? How have the big moments in your life been so far?

When I look back, I am amazed. Back then, I didn't think that I could make it to this point. I didn't see it coming to this height. I probably may have seen it two years ahead, but not this far. There have been many ups and downs. So many highlights and high moments; one of my greatest moments back then was the first time that Plantashun Boys' music was played on radio. It was like Christmas! We said to ourselves, ol boy, na our song dey radio so. That was in the year 1999; we did Omode meta with Tony Tetuila in 1998. But Plantashun Boys, which was our own music, made us so excited. There was jubilation amongst us. And then after, I got a couple of awards. That made me more excited.
And then again I went solo, won the MTV Europe Music Awards. That was a major highlight in my musical career. It was a big deal to me.
My video was the first to be played on MTV. Another big moment for me was the first time that I performed with Wyclef. That had been somebody that I had looked up to, and lo and behold, there he was in Nigeria. I was sitting with him. That was a big deal to me. Wyclef was an artist that had really inspired me.
Another golden moment was hmmm, when my first child came. It is not like I was not excited over the other ones, but when the first one arrived, I had this feeling that oh yeah, I am a father now! I was all wow and wow, so I am a father now. I kept saying to myself that I am responsible for this tiny human being…It was a very emotional feeling for me. My first child's name is Nino.
Another exciting and great moment for me was when I proposed and got married to my wife. I proposed and she actually said yes to this useless boy! (Humbly points to himself). I said to myself, 'Hey, this girl said yes to me! I was over joyed!!!

How did you propose to her?

I knelt down (laughs). After that, I told her that we should go somewhere to rock and enjoy ourselves. Meanwhile, my friend had invited people to that place already. She didn't see it coming at all. It was a big huge surprise.

She is an actress, and you are a music star. You are both in the entertainment industry. How do you get on with the challenges of life in the show biz world?

I guess what we do actually adds to our understanding of the general public and the general way of how we should handle 'us', handle ourselves. I do not have any problem with her acting and she doesn't have a problem with me doing music. We are just blending it. Right now, she has been off acting because of what they call maternity leave. But she is going to get back to acting at some point.

How does your wife Annie feel about your music?

If you recall this song, nfana ibaha o, she was the one that actually taught me how to say it, how to do it back then. So she has been my fan from way back. If I am doing a song and the song is not nice, she will tell me straight. She could urge me to change it or adjust it. She is my fine critic.

Odunlade Adekola, Fathia Balogun shine at Yoruba Movie Academy Awards

For all the stakeholders in the Yoruba movie industry, Sunday, March 30, will go down as most eventful. It was, undoubtedly, a day of glory for a number of actors, directors, producers, marketers and editors, among others, as they were celebrated and honoured for their dedication and commitment to their art at the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA) held at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Agodi, Oyo State.
Packaged by Tunde Oshinibosi, the CEO of Laface Entertainment, the colourful ceremony, which kicked off at the exquisite poolside terrace of Asake Suites Davis Hotel in Bodija, Oyo State, had all the trappings of a world-class event, thereby living up to its billing. Like in the maiden edition of the awards ceremony in 2012, the stars, after some hours of backslapping, meeting of minds and networking amidst drinking and eating, were later chauffeur-driven in three white limousines to the beautifully decorated Ibadan Civic Centre. Unlike the typical red carpet synonymous with showbiz, there was a long strip of creatively designed mats laid on the ground for the gladiators in the Yoruba movie sector as well as the guests to walk on when arriving or departing.

Anchored by the duo of Premier FM's Remi Femi Omolola and Amuludun FM's Aderemi Adetoro, the organisers first honoured some acting heavyweights, some of whom are late, for their contributions to the development of the Yoruba movie industry. In the YMAA honour list, posthumous awards were given to the late Duro Ladipo, Kola Ogunmola and Bisi Komolafe, while Prof. Akinwunmi Ishola, Pa Adebayo Faleti and Mrs. Lanre Hassan( Iya Awero) were also honoured.
As the guests waited with bated breath for the organisers to unveil the lucky winners in the different categories, Alhaji Muritala Sule, Head of YMAA Jury, lamented the challenge his committee faced while screening the entries. According to him, some producers would have won awards, but the DVDs submitted for the contest were damaged, thereby making them difficult to be viewed. He, therefore, urged the producers to submit clean DVDs in subsequent editions of the awards.
Thereafter, the hall became charged, as the previews of the works nominated in the 16 categories were displayed on a screen, one after the other. It even became supercharged as winners were announced in different categories. It was obvious that there was no hint of discontent among the audience over the winner in any category, a situation that attested to the incontestable judgment of the jury.
The highpoint of the evening was when the names of the YMAA Best Actor in a lead Role, Odunlade Adekola and Best Actress in a lead Role, Fathia Balogun, were announced. Though Fathia's award was received by actress Toyosi Adesanya, Odunlade forced almost all the top actors in the hall on the podium. They showed him love, while he, in return, poured encomiums on his senior colleagues and mentors in the industry, thanking them for propping him in his acting journey in the past years.

However, what read like a thread in the various speeches delivered by some personalities at the event was the lackluster attitude and seeming lack of interest in the awards by some of the invited guests. Many wondered why there was no impressive government representation, in spite of the buzz generated by the awards. Laolu Ogunniyi, who expressed the same sentiment, however, promised to investigate the likely reason why there was no government representation as advertised. The organisers had planned to confer the honourary awards of 'Agba Sa Ga' and 'Yeye Agba Sa Ga' on the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and his wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi for their "immense and unquantifiable contribution to the development of culture, tourism and the Yoruba movie industry in line with the development agenda for Western Nigeria." But this might probably hold another day!
Except for the dull performance by Ayanbinrin, a popular female drummer, the not-too exciting performance by the Oyo State NYSC Dance and Drama Troupe, the dull fashion parade as well as the staccato speeches of the awardees, the event was another milestone in the annals of Yoruba movie industry.
Ojopagogo wins first movie award
POPULAR comic actor, Rasak Olayiwola, a.k.a Ojopagogo, is one of the household names in the Yoruba movie industry. He started acting some decades ago and has a large following in the industry. However, his unwavering dedication to acting was duly recognized and appreciated, for the first time ever, on Sunday when his movie, Olojojo, won the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA) Best Comedy Movie. Other nominees in the category were Ile Ayo, Ijewuru, Alani Baba Labake and Iyawo Gbajumo.
Ojopagogo, who was overwhelmed with joy, in an interview with The Nation, said, "I feel overwhelmed. This is my first public and standard award since I started acting. In the past, I had been nominated for several awards, but I didn't win-and I didn't attend the ceremonies. But I decided to attend today's awards ceremony and I don't have any regrets."
Olojojo, which was written, produced and directed by him, centres on a Yoruba tradition, where a woman is expected to help out her daughter-in-law when she is delivered of a child. But typical of a comedian, Ojopagogo tries to distort this tradition. According to him, "In the movie, a man is made to carry out that task, thereby creating some controversies."
Obesere in show of shame
TOP Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, alias Obesere, has a way of constantly remaining in public discourse, either for a good or bad reason.
A few weeks ago, he was alleged to have raped a 29-year-old woman, Olanike Olaiya, who had gone to discuss business with him at his Okota, Lagos residence.
However, even as the dust raised by the rape scandal is yet to abate, Obesere shamelessly trivialised the issue when he was invited to present the YMAA Best Picture to the winner.
With palpable clownish tendency, Obesere, who was dressed in a black suit, spent almost five minutes 'acting' on the podium. It all began when he lashed out at his perceived traducers in a song: Mo ja fori mi de panti/ Ma sun o/ Ti o ba go/ Wa lo san owo omogo/ Won fe fi ipa gba owo lowo mi/ Won o mo pe emi naa ja si. The lyrics were laced with some argotic expressions, which generated condemnation in a corner of the hall. He even ignored the master of ceremonies who wanted him to end his uninspiring drama and went further to narrate, in a comical way, what transpired at his birth. According to him, "My parents made a special request during my naming ceremony. They gave the Muslim clerics (Alfa) money and begged them to pray Allah not to make me a dunce. So, I am not a fool; I am wise. I urge all the men in this gathering to be clever when dealing with women."
With his eyes literally roving all over the female usher on the podium, Obesere, who disclosed that he would share his experience about the rape saga with his fans in his forthcoming album, said he still loved women, in spite of all that the woman (Olanike) had done to him.
Saka's pain, gain
WHEN comic actor, Hafiz Oyetoro, a.k.a Saka, was invited to the podium to receive his award for the YMAA Best Comedy Actor, the hall literarily rose and tumbled. Shout of Saka rent the air, a situation that confirmed his popularity.
Although he won in the same category in the maiden edition of the YMAA in 2012, this year's award, as he later explained, had assuaged the pain in his heart. With mixed feelings he disclosed, shortly after receiving the award, that the plaque he received in 2012 was one of the treasured items he lost recently when his office at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijaniki, Lagos State was gutted by a mysterious fire.
He was nominated alongside Olaniyi Afonja( in Amisu), Wale Akorede( in Ile Alayo), Adekola Tijani( in Jonathan) , Tayo Amokade( in Kofo Tinubu) and Ronke Ojo( in Awa Meje).
Laface's lamentation song
TUNDE Oshinibosi, CEO of Laface Entertainment, is the executive producer of the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards( YMAA). Like the late American activist, Martin Luther King, he said he had a dream that "one day, the Yoruba movie industry will take giant strides and become a major force to reckon with across Africa and the Diaspora."
With this pristine vision, Laface, as he is popularly called, set the machinery in motion to organise the awards in 2012. From all indications, the maiden edition was a huge success, especially as it got encouraging sponsorship and was well received by the host state, Ogun State.
But the music changed slightly on Sunday. And he didn't hide his disgust, pain and frustration in his speech, which gravely tugged at the heartstrings of some members of the audience. It could be described a lamentation song of sorts. Though it was a Yoruba event, where the medium of communication was supposed to be Yoruba, he seemed to lack the linguistic competence in Yoruba to convincingly express his anger, nay frustration. Consequently, he spoke extempore in English (which he was more comfortable in) and intermittently switched to Yoruba.
According to him, he had to sell one of his properties to raise some money in the face of the mounting challenges, as the event drew approached. He said: "We don't appreciate what we have. We need to rethink, rebrand and reposition. What do you think you can do for the Yoruba race because the future of the Yoruba movie industry is great?"
While lamenting his frustration, he said a top Nollywood actor and producer, who happened to know about his pains, first offered him N500, 000( Five hundred thousand naira) for select awards in the 16 categories and another N500,000 for logistics from the Goodluck Jonathan/ Godswill Akpabio Endowment Funds. Not ready to entomb his dream, he further revealed that he had to 'beg' the management of the Ibadan Civic Centre for consideration. According to him, his effort yielded fruit as he was given a 50% discount on the facility, so the awards ceremony would not remain a mere dream.
He, however, expressed optimism that "the Nigerian government and governments of the South-West states in particular, through their respective culture and tourism ministries, will sincerely see the Yoruba movie industry as a major platform for strategic investment in line with the development agenda for West Africa."
Laface, who lauded Alhaji Tajudeen Kareem, the technical director of the project and CEO of Zmirage, called on all the stakeholders in the Yoruba movie industry to see the YMAA as their own 'baby' that must not die.

Evil! I cut her neck with cutlass for sacking me –Killer houseboy of Ogun retired magistrate (see)

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 02:51 AM PDT

A 65 year-old retired Chief Magistrate, Funmilayo Timeyin, would have hoped to live out her days off the bench in peace and relaxation. With no young child around the house, as all her children are grown up, she employed 21-year-old David Idah, a Benue State indigene, as housekeeper who killed her in cold blood with three cutlass blows to the neck around 6pm on Friday, March 28, 2014..Here is what he told Punch....

"I came to Abeokuta from Lagos this January. I was working in a Calabar Kitchen in Ojodu-Berger (Lagos) before I lost the job. I was both a cook and a waiter there.
"I was living with my sister in Lagos but we quarrelled. She was the one who got the for me job and I was being paid N12,000. Initially, I was spending N2,000 monthly  out of the money and saving N10,000 with her.
"But she later complained that I was keeping late nights, sleeping out and spending all my money without saving any with her again. I worked in the restaurant for seven months but when I became fed up with my sister's complaints, I called a friend who works in Abeokuta here and I told him I did not like the job I was doing in Lagos and he advised me to come to Abeokuta."

When Idah got to Abeokuta in January, he said it did not take long before he was connected with someone who arranges domestic helps for those who need them and he was told he would work in Timeyin's house.

He said the retired chief magistrate took him in and put him on a N10,000 salary per month.

"I initially liked the job but later, the woman, who was nice to me before, changed.  I started getting tired of the job.She accused me of behaving badly. And I did nothing wrong. She would call the person who connected me to her and complain all the time."

Well, I stole some things because she was maltreating me. I stole two mobile phones, DVD player and speakers, perfume, wrist watches, three trousers and four shirts belonging to her son.I planned to sell them. She did not pay me my salary. I wanted to sell those things and use the money to leave. But she discovered that I stole them and handed me over to the police."
The police informed Timeyin that the young man would be charged to court. She pleaded with the police to release Idah but disengaged him from her employ.

However, a few days after Idah was released from custody, he decided to pay a last visit to his former boss' house.

, "After I was released by the police, I realised I still had some of my things at mama's (deceased's) house. I went to the house in the evening and placed a ladder on the fence.
"I jumped into the compound and took the cutlass I used in the house to cut grass. I laid an ambush in and waited till she came out of the house. When she came out, I hit her on the neck with the cutlass, I hit her again and again because I was angry.
"I only hit her three times. She was screaming and that attracted the neighbours. She was shouting 'help, help!', so I dropped the cutlass and jumped over the fence. I hid in the bush behind the house.
"Some neighbours who rushed inside and saw her quickly told other neighbours and the vigilante in the area to surround the bush. They were about 25 people. They sighted me in the bush where I hid and got hold of me while I was trying to escape."I did not even think of the consequences while I was hitting her, I was just angry with the woman"
Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi said

When the woman went to plead with the police to release him, she was even preaching to him, telling him that he should change his ways so that he could be successful in life.
"The woman herself wrote a letter of withdrawal to the police. She said she did not want him tried. She was just a peaceful woman who did not want to compound the suspect's woes. But she disengaged him there and then."

Legendary Actress Joke Silva Opend up: Why I haven’t been featuring in Yoruba movies!

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 02:42 AM PDT

Joke Silva fondly called the "grandmother of the Nigerian film industry"  wife of veteran actor, Olu Jacobs, In this engaging interview With Vanguard Joke Silva speaks passionately about her acting career, her role as a wife,
Read below:

In your own assessment, how would you rate what they call the "New Nollywood?"

I'm not a supporter of this idea of the 'new and old Nollywood.' I look at the entire film industry as one which has been recording steady growth. That's the way I see the industry.

It's really sad because I think we have one of the oldest enterainment traditions in the whole  world-theatre. We have  been making films way back in the 50s. And for us to celebrate 20 years of Nigerian film industry last year, I personally believe, we are underrating ourselves.

Unfortunately, people like us whom they  consider as "old-fashioned" are not in controlled of the affairs of the industry. There is need to sound a note of caution that  we must jettison our history, so that posterity will not judge us.

Are you agreeing with Kunle Afolayan when he wrote on his facebook page last year that celebrating Nollywood at 20, is celebrating 20 years of producing low quality films?

I'm not sure  if I would support that opinion. This is because I know that within the last 20 years, Nollywood has churned out some absolutely amazing films.

I wouldn't support that kind of assessment of the industry. But I do know  that a lot of Tunde Kelani's films fall within and before these  years. So, you can't authoritatively claim that Tunde Kelani's works are not bar raisers.   Even though there is an on going argument that TK does not see  himself as a Nollywood practitioner.

But I think we need to understand what the word, Nollywood stands for. For me, Nollywood is the entire Nigerian film industry. It got branded with the name, and it has been in existence for much longer than the name.

These days, you are rarely seen on screen. What happened?

Yes, I had a project I was doing. It  took me away for a while, but I'm working now.

Meaning that you have staged a comeback to Nollywood?

I have never left the industry. In fact, I have been doing a lot of works in the theatre and also, starring in some films in the last couple of months.

But it's not the case of being selective?

Not particularly; once in a while, I do get scripts that I would reject outrightly. In the past couple of days, I have said 'Yes' to a couple of scripts. But I also said 'No' to one script simply because I didn't  agree with the story line of the movie.

But you haven't been featuring in Yoruba movies for a while?

Yes, I haven't been approached to star in a Yoruba film for a while. The Yoruba film producers haven't invited me to feature in their films.

They believe you belong to the English genre of the industry?

They know that much.I belong to the industry, and  our film industry is one. That is my believe.  I have always believed that.

Actress Bukky Wright opened up-- “I don’t like fat men & men that wait for you to ask before they give”

Posted: 05 Apr 2014 02:20 AM PDT

Bukky Wright The 47 year old beautiful actresses..opened up to the Sun on her kind of man:
"I am attracted to God fearing and good looking men. I don't like fat men. I love tall dark and slim men.I don't like deceitful and uncaring men. I could die for a very caring man. I'm a very romantic person so I love romantic men; I love surprise gifts. As a young girl growing up I read a lot of Mills & Boom. I like my man to surprise me with gifts; it sweeps me off my feet. I don't like men that wait for you to ask before they give. I like men that are in control and know what to do. But I notice that with most men, if you don't ask you don't get.
