| Posted: 28 Apr 2014 11:19 AM PDT  Three generations of a family, including a nine-week-old baby girl and her two brothers, nine and seven, have been killed in a Sheffield house fire today. Grandmother Shabina Begum, 54, and aunt Anum Parvaiz, 20, also died after the blaze ripped through a terraced house in Wake Road, Sharrow, shortly after midnight. The boys were named locally as Amaan Nazim, seven, and his brother Adhyan Nazim, nine, who died in a bedroom with their nine-week-old sister, who has not been named. Their father, Nazim Parvaiz, was out working as a taxi driver when the fire broke out and their mother, Razia Nazim, survived the blaze, and both are 'shell-shocked and devastated', their family said. The grandmother had escaped the fire only to go back inside - but died trying to save her trapped family. Distraught relatives have said the deaths are a 'tragedy beyond description' because 'within five minutes five precious lives were lost... and a whole family was destroyed'. The cause of the fire is being investigated, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has said. But a neighbour, who does not wish to be named, said she has friends who the fire through a window of the terraced property and called the fire brigade. He said: 'It's just a huge tragedy. Words cannot describe how sad this is. It's a tragedy beyond description. 'The whole family is in a state of shock, devastated. The whole community is in a sombre mood. 'Friends, relatives, we're all in huge, huge shock. It's a tragedy beyond imagination. 'Just in a matter of minutes the whole family has been destroyed. The whole family has gone. 'You can well imagine what the children's parents are going through. I don't have the words to describe how the family is feeling, other than shell-shocked, devastated. 'We are a close-knit family, there are enough people around to support the family. Mr Hussain Kayani said of his cousin, Mrs Begum: 'She was, to my children, like a mother, like an aunt. 'The whole community is in huge shock.' Asked about the children, Mr Hussain Kayani said: 'They were full of life, quite bubbly, very energetic. They were looking forward to attending school (after Easter).' He said the children's mother 'is in a state of shock. She's beyond consoling, really. I just hope and pray that they recover from this tragedy.' Three generations of the family were killed in the fire. Mr Hussain Kayani said: 'I believe the mother of the children, I think she was in the house. 'She managed to escape. The grandmother of the children, she made attempts to rescue the children but obviously it wasn't to be. 'She came out then went back in, tried her level best. Frantic attempts were made to rescue the children.' Qurban Hussain, Labour councillor for Sharrow, said: 'I have known the family for the last 40 years. They were a very kind, loving and peaceful family. 'I came down last night when I heard about what had happened. When I saw the fire, I didn't think anyone would have survived. 'The smoke alarms were going off and the neighbour heard them and called the fire brigade. The neighbour was banging on the door, shouting, and that seemed to wake the family up. 'The grandmother came running out of the house, but when she realised the children were still inside she went back in to try and get them out. 'The children's father and grandfather are both taxi drivers and they were both out working at the time. They are very hard working and they're always out earning money for their family. 'They weren't there so they couldn't do anything to help. 'It is such terrible news. They were such a peaceful, loving family and they were very kind people. They didn't interfere with anyone else and they were very nice and loving.' Four fire engines were called to the scene and an aerial ladder was also used to tackle the blaze. Police and ambulance services also rushed to the house after receiving emergency calls. The road, lined with cars on each side, was cordoned off by police tape this morning. 'They were faced with a very challenging fire, lots of flames coming out of the property, and they were aware family members were in the premise and they went in wearing breathing apparatus enabling them to breathe in the hot and smoky environment. In this interview with Tribune, she speaks on her career, her most embarrassing moment and fashion preferences. Excerpts: ADVERTISEMENT Growing up I am from Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, but I was born and brought up in Lagos. I am from a family of five and the last girl of my family but not the last born. Foray into acting I decided to pursue a career in acting because of the love and passion I have for it. I came into the industry through a friend in 2000. My friend introduced me to Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello. That was how I joined Awada Kerikeri Organisation. When I joined the industry, there were lots of challenges but I give glory to Almighty Allah, for bringing me to my present position. And I am sure He is taking me to the best position soonest. I thank God for how far He has brought me. An adage says "it's not how far but how well." I have featured in so many movies like: Ife-Omo; Karounwi; Kobamajewo; Farri; Kowope-alajo; Marmok; Aparo; Awolu goes to school; Bebe Isila and Mimiano. Mimiano is a blessing to me because it was the movie that brought me to limelight. Pains and gains of being a celebrity There is a saying that no pain, no gain. the pain is that I'm no longer Memunah, the girl next door. I am now Mimiano, the celebrity, I can't go to the market as frequently as I used to anymore. No matter what the fans do, whether good or bad, I have to keep on smiling. The gain is that anywhere I go, I don't need to introduce myself. My presence is highly recognised. If not acting I would have been an event planner. Most embarrassing thing a fan did to me I am an easy-going type, I don't take things like that to heart. I am of the opinion that you can only be embarrassed by someone who loves you. So, being embarrassed by a fan is no big deal to me. It is one of the prices to pay for fame. An incident that came to mind however, was the day I went to a party with a friend and a guy walked up to me and gave me a peck. I didn't even know him from Adams. I was surprised and told him that I didn't know him, he told me he was one of my fans and that he really loved all my movies. I just smiled and thanked him for loving my movies. Role models in the industry Joke Silver and Bukky Wright. Philosophy of life Once I make up my mind that I want a positive answer from a particular thing, I work hard to achieve the goal. Definition of style I don't have a permanent style, I come out with different styles of my choice that suit the present atmosphere. I create my style myself. Beauty regimen My beauty regimen is simple because I try to be as natural as possible. I do all the beauty stuffs that all normal ladies do, yet I love using natural ingredients and that has been a huge payoff. Choice of accessories I love earrings, necklace, bangles and sometimes, I like putting on leg chains. I love beads accessories most. Favourite designers On the local scene, I love Yemi Casual, Mudi and Sharktel Clothing. While on the international scene, I am a fan of Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, Gucci and Michael Kors. Fashion item I can't do without when going out I can't do without my handbag when going out. Most expensive item in my wardrobe I think that should be my shoes. Opinion on toning Toning is not good for the skin and it is better to be natural. What I will like to change about myself Nothing. I love the way I am and I give God the glory for my life. I can never go for cosmetic surgery. Favourite colours Pink and blue. On provocative dressing I don't wear provocative dresses. Moreover, I don't believe in "if you have it, flaunt it." If you have it, people will see it so there is no need to flaunt it. I believe in prim and proper kind of dressing but I am not the chronic old skool type. Special treat I love listening to music and travelling. My hair and nails I make sure they are both neatly done. Keeping fit I don't diet, I take my three square meals daily but I do take a lot of water. I don't exercise too. I inherited this figure. All my siblings too have figure eight, so there is no need to do something special about my figure. Marital status I am single but insha Allah, I will tie the knot very soon. | Shocking! 'My uncle has been sleeping with me since 2013' —12-yr-old girl Reveals! [PHOTO] Posted: 28 Apr 2014 09:52 AM PDT  If April 21 had been Good Friday rather being Easter Monday, it would have been said that the beating received by Anthony Wayas, resident in Finima community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, was in commemoration of what the day stands for in Christendom, but the alleged act of defilement and incest brought against the 32-year-old man was an act abhorred by not only Christians but the society in general. It took the intervention of policemen from Finima police station, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Mohammed Suleiman Baba, to rescue him from the mob which showed distaste for the alleged act. Wayas is currently being interrogated by the Rivers State Police Command over an allegation brought against him by his 12-year-old niece, Karen (not real name), that he had been having carnal knowledge of her since 2013. The girl was said to have been living with the suspect since she was a baby, after her father's death. At that time, Wayas and his wife, who had been married for a couple of years, were yet to have a child of their own so the baby girl automatically became their daughter. Therefore, it was surprising to many that the man could turn to s*xually abuse the girl regarded as his daughter. According to a reliable source within the community, the case of defilement was reported to the chairman of Finima Youth Congress, Comrade Aladiokuma Hart, who in turn notified the DPO and took the girl to him to be put in protective custody. The suspect, Wayas, was alleged to have threatened to kill the girl if she should expose him and had continued abuse her s*xually until she could no longer keep things to herself. Speaking with Crime Reports on her experience in the hands of the man she called father, Karen said: "Anthony is a father to me. He is my father's brother. My father is dead and my mother is in our village at Adamawa State, married to another man now. I don't go to school. I finished Primary Six and was supposed to start JSS1 but I was not sent to secondary school by my uncle. I usually stay at home to do house chores. I would then take my cousins to school and come back home to work. I would go back to the school in the afternoon to pick them. "My uncle started sleeping with me in 2013. How it happened was that he would leave for work in the morning and come back in the afternoon while his wife is away at work where she works as a cleaner. He would take the children to the big room, asking them to stay there, and would take me to the small room. He would remove my pant and push me on the bed. "He would then remove his trousers and bring out his manhood. He would then put it inside me and sleep me (sic). I can't count the number of times it has happened. When I told the wife, she threatened to return me to our village. "On Saturday, April 19, my uncle asked me to mix hot and cold water for him to take his bath. He took the bucket to the bathroom and asked me to bring his sponge to him. As I took the sponge to him, he dragged me into the bathroom and had s*x with me. There were people in the house but he warned me not to shout. "The following morning, I told one woman in our compound. She, in turn, told someone and when the person interviewed me, he called in the Finima youths. I am surprised that my uncle is denying." But Wayas insisted that he did not have carnal knowledge of his niece. According to the man who said he was working as a truck driver, "I am surprised at what Karen said that I was having s*x with her because it is not true. I have a problem with my manhood which has resulted in my inability to make love to a woman. "I have not been experiencing erection at all. I was told by my doctor that it was caused by syphilis that I once had. He said the s*xually transmitted disease was not well treated when I had it. It also resulted in my having zero sperm in my semen which the doctor said would not make me have a baby. I was given Proviron to boost my sperm count." Anthony confirmed that Karen had been living with him since she was less than a year old. When asked why he thought the young girl would say such a thing against him if it didn't happen, he said: "That is the reason I am confused myself." Wayas' wife, Affinity (30), also claimed that her niece-in-law did not disclose anything to her. The mother of one also said the story had been hard to believe because her husband had not slept with her for over a year as a result of erectile dysfunction. "We have been married for 14 years but, initially, my husband had low sperm count. He married another woman after me but we got pregnant at the same time after several prayers. I have a child and the other woman has two. She has left and I am the one taking care of her children with mine. "Karen is my husband's niece. She came to us after her father died and she was just about a year old then. I am confused about the whole issue because my husband had been having weak erection for over a year and had not been able to make love to me. We sought medical help and the doctor recommended some drugs. "Since the drugs are expensive, we have resorted to prayers. I am not defending my husband but I don't understand how he was able to have s*xual relationship with the girl with his current condition. And Karen did not inform me as she claimed. If she did, I would have admitted it," the woman said. Confirming the story, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, Grace Iringe-Koko said that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations, after which the suspect would be charged to court if found culpable. | Angry Mobs Burns Suspected Kidnappers To Death! [GRAPHIC PHOTO] Posted: 28 Apr 2014 09:16 AM PDT  Three suspected kidnappers were beaten up and burnt to death by mobs in separate incidents in Oshogbo, Osun State on Friday. Police Public Relations Officer in the command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, told a Lagos based newspaper that another suspect was caught and mobbed at Alekuwodo area of the Oshogbo. The Alekuwodo suspect, who was allegedly caught with three children, was rescued by the police before he was set ablaze. "The suspect was rescued and brought to the police but he gave up the ghost when receiving treatment," the PPRO said. Following the killings, the State Police Command has issued a warning to residents to desist from meting out jungle justice. "The command is warning residents of the state against jungle justice. If anybody is arrested, such should be handed over to the police. Nobody has the right to kill any suspect; it is against the law," Odoro added. Meanwhile, the state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, condemned kidnapping as well as jungle justice meted out to the suspects. After a decade of electrifying dances, amazing music and climbing the heights of super stardom, th group P-Square almost unravelled. Peter Okoye, the darling of Nigerian women decided he had had enough of being called a dancer, rather than a singer, and also the disrespect of his wife, Lola Okoye by his elder brother Jude Okoye. He entered a physical combat with his less athletic twin brother, and won. Not just winning, he broke the dude's left eye. Of course, all that muscle and endless hours preening himself in the gym, has to give him some combat advantages. Poor Paul. In the end though, family reined supreme, all the anger was put away, the brothers were reconciled, and went back to playing soccer (and working out), while being Daddies and honeys to their kids and wives. For the extra pep, Jude Okoye had just the bright idea to get engaged to an ex-beauty queen, Ify Umeokeke, sending all the wagging tongues to another direction. The sly fox. Twins would always be twins. Joined by blood, made special by a similarity of looks, and united even in battle. It's not rare to see them battle and disagree over the most trivial of matters, but rarely do their separation become absolute. Many people are of the opinion that with the entrance of women into the lives of the men, trouble necessarily raised its ugly head. More specifically, they've thrown all their fingers at the graceful Lola Omotayo. Even though this might not necessarily have been the case, and there's no proof to substantiate the social media allegations, but they do persist. Popular societal opinion of Lola can be summed up in three words: older, bossy, arrogant. People think she's the sore thumb in the Okoye household, so that makes her the easiest to blame. | Posted: 28 Apr 2014 08:35 AM PDT  18-year-old Ana Rosa Mora has been arrested for killing her own child because the the new born looked like her ex-boyfriend. Ana wrapped her baby in a bag and left him outside to die because she feared the child looked like her ex-boyfriend and her current boyfriend would leave her. The Chicago Tribune reports that the teen gave birth last weekend and attended school on Monday after allegedly committing the act and even showed staff members pictures of a newborn girl that she claimed she downloaded from the Internet. But after employees noticed strange behavior - such as the girl asking if authorities could link her to the child through DNA and lying about the baby's age - they alerted authorities. The child had been found by a construction worker a few hours after the child was left outside. The boy was born alive but died of asphyxia and possible exposure, authorities said. The new mother said her ex-boyfriend was the father and when the child was born she feared her current boyfriend would notice and leave her, the newspaper reported. She was arrested Friday April 25th. Ludvik Dolezal, 58, burns whatever he finds to create his 'bed' before crawling into it to sleep. He has even burnt his mattress and duvet in order to achieve the perfect mound of fiery remains. Europe's dirtiest man Ludvik Dolezal who lives in a hovel spends his nights in buried in hot ash Mr Dolezal, who passers-by often refer to as a devil from fairytales, said: 'A year ago I simply decided to quit my job. Since then I've staying here with the fire. 'Every night I lay down with hot ash in my clothes and cover myself to keep warm. I look like hell then. 'I had everything – jacket, boots, mattresses and even a duvet. But I burnt everything because there was nothing else to keep the fire going. 'People help me, they bring some old tyres here for example and I burn them.  Ludvik Dolezal has managed not to burn his radio, one of his few possessions 'I keep the fire going all day and in the evening at 7.30 I go to sleep.' Mr Dolezal, who lives in an abandoned old farmhouse, is said to suffer from a psychological disorder which makes him want to share his life with fire and ash.  Despite the freezing cold winters of his home town, Novy Bydzov, in the Czech Republic, he wears just a fleece, which is dyed black from the smoke. 'I mostly burn wood from bushes that grow around,' he added. 'But it has to be dry to glow. When I don't have enough of it I grab an axe and cut boards from surrounding sheds. 'I burn even rubber, that's not a problem. And if I have foam from a mattress I'll throw it on there as well. 'The tyres are very good, they make a good heat. But there is smoke as well so then I need to go out for a while. Is this the dirtiest man in Europe? Homeless Czech Ludvik 'I've got constant breathing problems. I smoke cigarettes all the time, I finish one packet a day, they help me. I breathe better when I smoke.'  Instead they give the money to a local shop where Mr Dolezal goes every day for food. | How Mobile Policeman 'Almost' Used Neighbor's 8-Year Old Daughter For Rituals! [PHOTOS] Posted: 28 Apr 2014 05:31 AM PDT  Aggrieved youths, weekend, attempted to set a Mobile Policeman's apartment on Olufowobi Street in Ikosi area of Ketu, Lagos ablaze following the discovery of an eight-year-old missing girl in his room. The girl identified as Amarachi, who was unconscious, had her hands, legs and mouth tied. She also had a deep cut on her skull when she was rescued. Vanguard gathered that Amarachi was last seen at about 4pm on Thursday, after going on an errand for the Mobile Policeman identified as Corporal Gbuchenge Augustine, with Force number 400823. The Policeman lives in the same compound with parents of the girl at 1, Olufowobi Street. But apprehension set in after her father, Mr Patrick Abakwan, returned at about 7.30pm and requested to see his daughter. Speaking with Vanguard, Abakwan said: "The first person I sought after when I came back was Amarachi. I was told she had gone to sleep. But when I went inside, I did not see her. I only met her mother who was with a visitor. "At that point, we went outside to look for her in the midst of other children who were playing. One of them told me that olopa (policeman) sent her to buy akara (beans cake). "One of the children even said he saw olopa carrying my daughter while she was asleep into hi s room. I peeped into Augustine's room and also placed my mouth on the key hole and shouted my child's name but there was no response. "At that point, he came out and said my child was not there. I thereafter, went round the neigbourhood in search of her. When I came back, I was told olopa left the room in anger after my wife confronted him to tell her all he knew about our missing daughter. "They said he angrily left the compound, saying he was going to report at the station that he was being accused of kidnap." Girl found "At that point, some curious residents were said to have peeped through the room, where to their amazement, they saw someone bound in both legs and hands, struggling to free herself. "Policemen from Ketu were reportedly contacted following which the door of the mobile policeman's apartment was forced open only to find the girl in the pool of her blood. "When we went inside the room with the policemen, Amarachi's body was under the bed. Only her legs were outside and she was still struggling slowly to free herself. She could not talk. "The policeman had twisted her neck and used an object to break her skull thinking she would die in the process but God saved her. We rushed her to Dafe Medical Hospital where they refused to admit her before taking her to the Island General Hospital." How I was almost killed— Girl When Vanguard visited the hospital, Amarachi was seen with a plaster on her head and a neck crest. According to her, "he first sent me to buy him akara and later recharge card. When I came back, he asked me to wait a while. Later I heard my father calling me. I told him I was going to meet my father and collect what he bought for me from work. "But he grabbed me and laid me on the floor, saying he would kill me if I shouted. He tied my mouth with a cloth and also tied my neck. He later brought a knife and hit me severalty on the head. That is all I remembered until I woke up and found myself in the hospital." Ritual purpose suspected Residents of the area accused the fleeing Mobile policeman of being a ritualist. Their accusation followed the discovery of several children's clothes and shoes reportedly found under his bed. One of the residents said: "He packed into the compound four years ago. Since then, he has always been travelling every time. He has four cars. Most nights, we usually saw him carrying a Ghana Must go into his jeep, only to return at about 4 a.m. "He just came back from one of the trips on Thursday. We suspect he intended using the girl for ritual because a Ghana must Go bag with which he wanted to put the butchered body was found in the room." | How Former Edo State Governor, Igbinedion, Lost N3.3 billion To Venezuelan Conmen! Posted: 28 Apr 2014 05:30 AM PDT  Nemesis may have finally caught up with ex-convict and former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion, as he has lost over N3.3 billion to Venezuelan fraudsters, in a deal that bears all the marks of a classic 419 scam, We can authoritatively reveal. Court documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES also suggest that Mr. Igbinedion may be insolvent, as two US-based law firms have walked away from a $600 million lawsuit he instituted against the alleged mastermind and the Venezuelan state owned oil company, Petroleos De Venezuela S.A (PDVSA), over his inability to pay retainer as low as N627,000.00 ($3,800.00). Mr. Igbinedion plundered Edo State treasury for the eight years he was governor. He escaped jail after he reached a controversial plea bargain agreement with the Farida Waziri-led Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which dropped all but one of the 191 charges of corruption and money laundering against him. In 2008, a Federal High Court in Enugu sentenced him to six months in prison with the option of a N3.5 million fine. The controversial plea bargain agreement he reached with the EFCC also required that he return N500 million and three of the houses he acquired with stolen public funds to the Federal Government. But it's not yet Uhuru for Mr. Igbinedion as the Court of Appeal in Benin ruled on April 9, 2014 that he has a case to answer over a fresh 66-count money laundering and financial impropriety suit brought against him by the EFCC. A Federal High Court had ruled in 2011 that it would amount to double jeopardy and abuse of court process to try him again after the plea bargain he entered with the EFCC. He has been accused of stealing over N3 billion from Edo State's treasury. In 2006, looking to cash in on the lucrative but fraud-tainted fuel importation business, the ex-governor's front and Managing Director of Skanga Energy and Marine Limited, a company formed by Mr. Igbinedion and his brother, Bright, in 1992, Christian Imoukhuede, approached the then Venezuelan Trade Consul to Nigeria, Enrique Arrundell, about the prospect of importing petrol, aviation fuel, and diesel from the South American country. According to documents filed with a US District Court in New York, Mr. Arrundell advised Mr. Imoukhuede that the best way to get fuel was to go through a PDVSA approved agent. Mr. Arrundell then introduced Mr. Imoukhuede to Arevenca, a fraudulent firm owned by alleged notorious Venezuelan conman, Francisco Gonzalez. That meeting with Mr Gonzalez marked the beginning of Mr Igbinedion's woes. Mr. Igbinedion and his front, Mr. Imoukhuede claimed in court that they did due diligence checks on Arevenca through the Venezuelan embassy in Abuja. They claim that embassy officials confirmed Arevenca as a reputable Venezuelan business concern and the validated documents provided by Arevenca that supposedly showed a relationship with PDVSA. But it has since turned out that Arevenca might be a complete fraud. PDVSA has since said in court that it has no records of any relationship with Arevenca. Arevenca is a registered corporation under Venezuelan law but was most recently headquartered in Aruba; its subsidiaries are: Arevenca AKTM registered in British Virgin Islands; Arevenca SL is registered in Spain; and Arevenca Aruba Holding NV. Others are Arevenca Bank, Arevenca Foundation, Fly Aruba Suriname, Arevenca Mining and Arevenca Petroleum Company registered in offshore tax haven, Suriname. There is Arevenca Finances Holding registered in Switzerland and Arevenca Ivory Coast. Many of these subsidiaries are shell companies or exist only in names. A Canadian-based freelance journalist, Steven Bodzin, who worked as an energy reporter in Venezuela and has written a number of exposés on Arevenca, revealed that Arevenca's website is a repository of mind-numbing lies meant to hoodwink mostly unsuspecting international investors. For instance, on its website, Arevenca claims to have a global refining capacity of 2.5 million barrels per day and plans to build a two million barrel per day in Ivory Coast. It also claims to have a fleet of 72 ships. However, the company with the highest refining capacity in the world as at September 2013, Reliance Jamnagar Refinery, India, has a refining capacity of only 1.24 million barrels per day. In fact, Arevenca is not included in the top ten refineries in the world. The only Venezuela-based refinery in the top 10,Paraguana Refining Centre, belongs to PDVSA and has a processing capacity of just 955,000bpd. And despite claiming to have 75 vessels, a PREMIUM TIMES search on Lloyds Ship Directories shows that Arevenca does not operate from any of Venezuelan's 16 ports. There is also no proof that the company is building a two million barrel per day refinery in Ivory Coast as it claimed. These a just few of the web of lies contained in Arevenca's website. Other false claims made by Arevenca to defraud investors can be found on Mr. Bodzin's blog. In October 2006, Mr. Imoukhuede, who was Mr. Igbinedion's schoolmate, arrived at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas and was ushered directly into the VIP lounge and later given a luxury ride to the exquisite InterContinental Tamanaco, rated among the top three hotels in the country, where he had initial negotiation with Mr. Gonzalez and an unnamed Nigerian. After the meeting, Skanga reached a tentative agreement to buy "petroleum products" from Arevenca. Arevenca also agreed to give Skanga the first right of refusal to buy its AGO (diesel), PMS (premium motor spirit) DPK (kerosene), Jet Al fuel, Bitumen and Fuel oil. The deal was to take off with a 35,000 metric tones of AGO for the first option and repeated frequency of about three cargoes monthly, according to Skanga Official statement. Bank transfer documents show that Skanga paid $1.05 million of the $1.4 million cost of freight. According to answer provided by Skanga officials during interrogation in court, it made these payments ($580,000 and $470,000) based on the proof of certain "inducement documents which included an alleged PDVSA bill of lading. After Skanga made these initial payments, it became trapped. The duping of the former government and his corrupt clan began in full swing. Igbinedion goes to Caracas In January 2007, four months before the expiration of his governorship term, Mr. Igbinedion travelled to Caracas, ostensibly on an official visit but actually the visit was to put finishing touches to the deal earlier reached by his front three months earlier. According to the Bolivarian News Agency (ABN), he and his entourage were met by some of the influential "Chavista" politicians in the country, as supporters of the late Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chávez, are called: the Mayor of Central Caracas, Freddy Bernal, the Governor of Miranda, Diosdado Cabello, and Deputy Foreign Minister for Africa, Reinaldo BolÃvar as well as other top Venezuelan government Officials and businessmen. It was an elaborated event accompanied by lavish photo op, expensive alcohol and dinner in the evening at the "Gran Melia Hotel, another top three luxury hotel in Venezuela according to luxury hotel reservations website, Five Star Alliance. Mr. Igbinedion was handed the key to the city of Caracas and announced as the "AlcaldÃa de Libertador", the honorary Mayor of the central Caracas borough of Libertador. He also held a meeting with top officials of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry at their headquarters, the Yellow House. But the whole fanfare was a grand charade and part of a well orchestrated confidence trick put together by some of the most devious conmen in Latin America. It appears that Mr. Gonzalez received an intensive course on Nigerian niceties. Emails from Mr. Arrundell and Gonzalez to Mr. Igbinedion have that uniquely Nigerian informality. Rather than write in a formal manner as one would have expected in a multi-million dollar deal, they addressed Mr. Igbinedion as "My brother Lucky" or "Dear brother Lucky." One letter by Mr. Gonzalez, filled with grammatical errors, reads: Dear brother lucky I already send the dignity signed invoice. You know what this mean. Nobody do this, but I always honored my word, agins all the logical and normal status. I prefer died that do not honored my word. This is another demonstration that I am a honor man. That mean that the product is yours. I trust you like a brother I hope you do not let me down. I do not want disappoint you, I hope you do not disappoint me. Best regards, You brother and friend Francisco JAvier Gonzalez The geniality of Mr. Gonzalez's letters coupled with the grand reception, some would say deception, he got during his "official" visit to Caracas apparently made Mr. Igbinedion even more trusting of the Venezuelan gang. Thief, money launderer is scammed After a couple of other meetings later that year, Arevenca made Skanga a deal too good to be true: a consignment of 35,000 metric tonnes of diesel will be sent to Skanga. All it needed to do was to prepay the charges for delivery and complete the full payment for the delivery in three months. Mr. Igbinedion could not believe his luck. Skanga transferred $19.6 million more to Arevenca's Swiss bank account as freight charges and partial payment for two consignments of Petrol and diesel aboard two vessels named "Digniti" and "Ventur." The vessels never arrived. The Nigerian Port Authority said it does not have any record of "Digniti" or "Ventur" entering Nigerian waters at the time it was billed to arrive. In fact, PREMIUM TIMES investigation reveals that there are no vessels named "Dignitii" or "Ventur". Searches on Lloyds directories and other ship directories show that the ship don't exist anywhere in the world. All efforts made to consult the Venezuelan embassy to confirm the extent to which Mr. Arrundell, who has been posted out the country, was involved in the scam was unsuccessful. The embassy's phone number seems to be out of order and email were returned as undelivered. Mr. Imoukhuede declined to comment when contacted by PREMIUM TIMES. He explained that since the matter is in court, Skanga's lawyer was in best position to make any public comment. "You know the case is in court. I don't think I am at ease to talk about it. I would have to talk to the lawyer. I can't make any comment. The Nigerian legal system is different the American system. The best thing is to talk to Femi Salu," he said. TOP STORIES SAD NEWS! Chief Lere Paimo then opened up that he would be fine, and true to his words he has since bounced back to tell his story. The Ogbomoso Oyo born role interpreter was on the popular TV money game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Easter series where he won N1 million cash prize. He was assisted in this money spinner by banker, Babatunde Oni (one time N5 million winner on the show) and actress Gloria Young. This millionaire series was in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the show sponsored by MTN Nigeria and anchored by Frank Edoho.
