| House Wife or Home Manager - The Work and Status of Stay at Home Mothers Posted: 26 Apr 2014 01:28 PM PDT The term here in the United States is Stay at Home Mother but the title more common in Nigeria is housewife. This denotes any married woman that chooses or happens to not have a career outside the home or not at all. In her latest vlog, Stella Damasus addresses a stay-at-home woman who had an agreement with her husband soon after marriage not to pursue a career but to stay at home and take care of the kids. Now, after six years she wants to renege on the agreement and go back to work because of some disrespectful remarks she has been receiving from others about being a housewife. Her husband is not happy she wants to pursue a career and it is causing some quarells with the husband. She wants Stella to back her or encourage her, but Stella Damasus feels building your esteem as a housewife by calling yourself a different name should suffice. Especially if she had earlier made the arrangement with the husband to manage the home. |

The couple celebrated their marriage in Lagos with family and friends, and one of the highlights of the occasion was their amazing wedding cake in the shape of a tree with branches. The couple's wedding dresses also stood out, the groom in a blue military style suit and green print brocade suit for the reception, and the bride in a traditional white ball gown for the church and strapless cream gown covered in silvery sequins for her going away dress. | #BringbacktheGirls - Other Boko Haram Victims Narrate Ordeal as Sex Slaves Posted: 26 Apr 2014 10:19 AM PDT It is going to two weeks, and almost 200 School girls are still missing after two hundred and thirty four of them were abducted from their dormitories. Parents who had in all good conscience sent those young girls to go back to school and complete their senior school certificate exams are now going out of their mind. Some of them have gone on expeditions into the Sambisa forest where Boko Haram terrorists have their camps, but have returned when their resources ran out, or for fear of being thoroughly unprepared to war against the fully armed BH army. The Nigerian Military, apart from an earlier press release that erroneously said all the girls had been found, seem not to be doing much. As the days go by, we will not forget these girls but will continue to call for Boko Haram to release the girls, or for the army to do more in rescuing these innocent victims of a war they know nothing about. For anyone who thinks these girls are just locked up somewhere, below is a report on former female victims of Boko Haram. Unfortunately, the toll of such violence on women is rarely accounted for. Almost daily, one hears of insurgents claiming lives, destroying properties and kidnapping of women and girls in parts of north- eastern Nigeria. Some victims have lived to talk about their ordeals, many have not. But what actually happens to the female folk in the hands of their abductors? The silent agonies, pains and tribulation some of our women and girls pass through in the hands of the Boko Haram has, until now only been left to the imagination. KAREEM HARUNA, Maiduguri writes. |
