The Pentecostal Butt-Dance By Femi Segun Posted: 27 Mar 2014 01:34 AM PDT What, you wonder, am I on about now? Easy. I am speaking out on behalf of the tortured majority. You know, the young male Pentecostals who have sworn to abstention until marriage and are trying their best to "Hold Bodi" despite hormonal stimulus and in the face of the barrage of sexual messages from Channel O, Home Videos, X-Rated Magazines and the skimpily dressed female "Penterascals" that populate many of today's Pentecostal Churches. Their plunging necklines, Spaghetti Straps, Half–shoulder Roman Toga blouses and fully Off-shoulder dresses leave little to the imagination. Tight Skirts that skirt nothing and See-through Mini dresses that maximize the exposure of orange-peel straddled Thongs. Whereas the Church used to be the Eye of the Storm of social decadence, now many are the Bermuda Triangle where unwary Bachelors and even married men flounder and disappear into the vortex. What manner of maelstrom do I speak of? After all, in most churches, the Ushers are well-prepared with scarves to shield the tantalizing thighs from the eyes of the brothers, particularly the senior brother on the pulpit that they might not sin in their hearts. Aha! No problem you think? The Gospel has got it all covered! But no, not quite! In keeping with the injunction that "He inhabits our praise," and the attempt to "sing unto the Lord a joyful song", there is an exuberant praise worship with plenty of singing and dancing at the beginning and also to bring the Service to a close. This is when the Pentecostal Butt dance comes in. You see, the babes, sorry, "loosed women" know that because they do not attend Night Clubs and joints where the worldly guys hang out, they have to make do with the premises available to them to do what they do naturally in the hope of snaring a catch. So, with their lips painted, their hips swaying and their fingertips all a-glitter and outfitted to kill, they sashay into Church and eagerly anticipate the beginning of Praise Worship. At the first notes, they jump to their feet and begin a gentle swaying of the hips from side to side in rhythm to the music. As the tempo picks up, they introduce the killer moves, the ones that are imported from the Owambe Parties where the women bend over and do amazing things with their gluteal muscles and adipose tissue in a genteel manner to the beat of the music. It starts with a gentle up and down motion in addition to the sideways sway, then graduates into the fully upright hip-hop–ribbetty-bop that I have named the Pentecostal butt dance. The more anatomically gifted the Lady worshipper, the tighter the outfit and the more attention she attracts. At this point, the brothers' gazes are transfixed and all sorts of thoughts are running riot in their brains as they struggle to retain the anointing that they came in with. After all, Sunday Service is the occasion at which they can demonstrate their conviction with the Christ and their "Church–mind" and "Church –speak". The young dancers have caught their attention and are setting the brothers up for an after Church Bible – Study where they get to know each other while "Digging deep". What is a poor brother to do? The young brothers end up confused with erotic signals short-circuiting the anointed presence they had sought. Thank God for the ever Soul-cleansing, life-changing, undiluted, inexorable and pristine God-inspired Word coming from the pulpit. Quickly, the brothers are "re-arrested" and the Holy Spirit takes over, but not for long. The Sermon comes to an end and it's time for all to stand up again and sing, Jesus, you're my firm foundation, I know I can stand secure, Jesus, you're my firm foundation… __________ Originally published on NVS Femi Segun died in hospital on Friday, March 21, 2014, following complications from a motorbike accident. The date of his burial has been set for Friday, March 28, 2014, with a service of songs to hold on Thursday, March 27. May his soul rest in peace. |
Couple Love - Matilda Kerry Marries Festus Osazuwa Posted: 27 Mar 2014 12:49 AM PDT Matilda Kerry, Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2000, now a medical doctor, got married to her love, Festus Osazuwa at the beginning of March 2014. Matilda is the founder and medical director of Kerry Foundation for Cervical Cancer. Matilda told NigeriaFilms about her ideal man, describing him as; "A spontaneous fun person who complements me. He has to be proud of me and supportive of my work because I thrive on that. Also, he must be his own person; run his own thing and be successful at what he does. It doesn't really matter what it is as long as it's legal and makes enough money for us. He doesn't have to be drop-dead gorgeous like Denzel Washington, but I must find him attractive in some ways. He should intrigue me and we should have great conversation." RML wishes the couple more love and all the joys of marriage. |
[Guest Author] Dupe Olorunjo - Inspirational Fiction Can Be Beautiful Posted: 27 Mar 2014 12:26 AM PDT Dupe Olorunjo is a Nigerian, a pastor's wife and makes no apologies that the rich Nigerian cultural flavor shows up in her writings all the time. Dupe loves writing and is an author of two books. In addition to writing she presently works in an organization with focus on corporate relationship management. She was gracious to answer some questions for RML on her life as an author and self publisher. Q: When did you start to write? A. In secondary school, I had a very fertile imagination and within a short time had several stories floating around in my head. However, it was in University that I started exploring the idea of putting the stories down on paper and was pleasantly surprised to find that my friends were eager to read them. Before I knew it, I had a couple of manuscripts and my first book – TAILED, was published in 1999. Q: You have written several books, can you tell us about them? A. I have published two and the third will be released soon. The first – TAILED is the story of a family of five bound and influenced by the power of a mother's curse. THE AIREGINAN DREAM is about one daring man's audacious dream to set his country free from the shackles of corruption. And the new one I'm about to release is called .. A BEAUTIFUL WILDERNESS. Q: Why did you decide to write The Aireginian dream as an Allegory, or should I say fantasy? I mean it is obviously about some real places and people, but has been set in a fictional world. A. The real reason is that I wanted to focus on issues and principles rather than specific people and events. I didn't want anyone to read the book and take it personal. I wanted the book to inspire solutions to our national problems. Q: Your books are inspirational fiction, is there any particular reason for this? A. Inspiration can be so beautiful. Inspirational fiction paints a picture of what we can become. It shows how we can move from where we are to where we never imagined we could be. Q: Do tell us more about Dare and Peter from The Aireginan Dream, do you see such men coming out of Nigeria? A. It is possible. These are selfless men of vision. Rather than complain and grumble about the particular problems of their country, they decided to put their lives forward to seek and implement a solution. There must be such men in Nigeria, they just need to think deep and step forward. I believe Nigerians are hungry and just waiting for leaders like this to emerge. It is long overdue and It won't be difficult for a Dare and a Peter to command our loyalty, support and followership. Q: How do you go about choosing the particular issues to tackle through your books? A. Mostly Inspiration. Sometimes, it's my reflection on a possible solution to common problems. Q: Did you have to do a lot of research to situate your book in the appropriate place and time? A. Yes I always have to do that. The Aireginan Dream was however one of the hardest projects I've worked on. This is because it's political fiction and I'm not in any way a politician. I had to go into the mind of typical politicians and understand their thought process. Q: What was your publishing journey like, from your first book to the current ones? A. Publishing has been an interesting journey so far. Sometimes I wish I had landed a book deal that would give me the opportunity to focus on just writing. But I've also learnt in life that there is strength and development that comes from facing tough challenges. I have actually learnt a lot in the process of self- publishing and there are no regrets! In fact its interesting that I have even started consulting and offering advise for other new writers trying to navigate their own specific publishing waters. Q: What has been the reception for your books? A. The reception has been quite good and I always feel honored that my readers enjoy what I write. Q: So you are self-published, what has the business side of writing been like for you? A. The business side has actually been good for the version of the books published in Nigeria. I'm still learning the ropes of online marketing and I know that can only get better too. I recently published the KINDLE edition for my first two books and the response has been quite interesting so far. Q: How do you distribute your books, and do you make enough money to remain in business, or is it more like a labour of love? A. Most distribution is done via direct sales, bookshops and online sales. It has been profitable but I look forward to doing much more. Q: Do you ever plan to publish other people? A. Yes. I would love to do that if I come across a very good manuscript and after I have stronger structures in place for distribution Q: What's up next for you? A. Hopefully and by the grace of God, I plan to write a minimum of 2-3 books a year. I will probably also try my hands at non-fiction very soon. Q: Where can readers find you online? A. The online home for my books is my website www.dupeolorunjo.com. & I also interact with my readers on facebook… http://on.fb.me/1iUJVFq Q: Please tell us where we can find the book for purchase. A. My book are available on Amazon and my website has a list of bookshops in Nigeria that sell my books. |
