| Posted: 07 Jan 2014 09:37 AM PST Inri Christo has 'hundreds of followers' from around the world, including the UK, Britain and France, some of whom live with him at his 'church' compound outside Brasilia. Since 1979 he has travelled for 27 countries to spread his word, however his controversial views has seen him expelled from the US, Britain and Venezuela. They see me rollin', they hatin': When not giving sermons and tending to his flock at his Soust church, Inri Cristo likes to get around the grounds of his compound aboard his motor scooter Most of the disciples who live at his church – mostly women - have followed Inri for decades, the eldest, Abevere, 86, has been following him for 32 years. His youngest disciple is now 24 years old and first met Inri when she was just a two years old. As 'Jesus reborn' he has even taken the name of Inri, which derives from the latin acronym said to have been written on the cross during Jesus' crucifixion, and stands for Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum, or in English: Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews' and Christo, meaning Christ. His Jesus-like dressing and unorthodox views on capitalism, abortion and even Christmas has seen him detained by police more than 40 times. He said: 'I know that there are countless people scattered throughout Brazil and the world whose hearts beat together with mine.' But despite seeing himself as Jesus reborn, Inri refuses to celebrate Christmas saying it is just a day where 'the rich humiliate the poor'. 'It is a day when the little sons of the rich can show the gifts they received while the poor children only get a crumb,' he said. 'So it is a very sad day for anyone who sees things with the eyes that I see.' Inri says he first experienced the 'revelation' that he was Christ during a religious fast in Santiago, Chile, in 1979. Since childhood he had been following a powerful voice that 'speaks in his head' but it was only on this occasion that it told him: 'I am your Father. The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob.' He now runs his own church, the 'Soust' (Suprema Ordem Universal da Santmssima Trindade), located on a lush farmland outside of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, which he calls the 'New Jerusalem'. He and his followers survive on homegrown fruit like bananas, avocados and mangos as well as a vegetable garden. There's also a chapel where Ingra speaks to his followers every Saturday morning and a kennel for the dogs that guard the complex. His quirky life has led to critics saying he is mentally ill - an accusation he firmly denies. 'I can be crazy but not dumb,' he said. 'Madness is different from dementia. It is the mother of philosophers, prophets and inventors. Preacher and leader: Inri Christo's loyal followers push his pulpit out into the garden in order to listen to his words as 'Jesus' DailyMail | ||
| SUPER HILARIOUS! First Bank Akwa Ibom branch Shut Down over juju scare! [PHOTOS] Posted: 07 Jan 2014 09:39 AM PST There are reports from Akwa Ibom State that the Plaza branch of First Bank Nigeria PLC, Uyo is currently under a traditional injunction placed at the entrance of the banking hall by unknown persons. The building which is reportedly owned by Joesco Group of Companies is located at the heart of the town and is reportedly regarded as the most patronized bank in Akwa Ibom State. Whoever gave the traditional injunction is still unknown but there are insinuations that maybe there's a problem between the owners of the property and the bank or an aggrieved customer/staff of the bank versus the branch's management. As a result of the injunction, customers reportedly were seen in large numbers rushing in use the ATM to avoid being financially stranded as the week begins. For now, no one knows whether the bank will be open for business tomorrow following the ugly incident I Find this story quite funny...What do you think?? | ||
| HURRAY! President Jonathan’s 11th private jet! Posted: 07 Jan 2014 07:54 AM PST ![]() The Presidency has made a proposal for an upfront deposit of N1.5billion for a brand new private jet, which will become the Presidential Air Fleet's (PAF) 11th aircraft. This figure is contained in the details of the 2014 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The Federal Government has budgeted another N1.52b for the maintenance of the 10 aircraft currently in the PAF in 2014 and it is now set to spend just about that amount on a new one. This prodigious squandering of taxpayers' money is reckless and unacceptable. The PAF already boasts two Falcon 7X jets, two Falcon 900 jets, Gulfstream 550, one Boeing 737 BBJ (Nigerian Air Force 001 or Eagle One), and Gulfstream IVSP. Others are one Gulfstream V, Cessna Citation 2 aircraft and Hawker Siddley 125-800 jet. The combined estimated value of the PAF is about $390.5m (N60.53bn). According to industry experts, it costs a minimum of 20 per cent of that figure to maintain them annually. So we're looking at about $58.57m (N9.08bn) yearly for maintenance. Private jets are money guzzlers either in the air or on land. The proclivity of this administration for frivolous spending is well documented. The government has been severely criticised in the past for the colossal amount of embezzlement, rip-off and wastage that have been its hallmark. The rationale behind this new aircraft in the PAF must be condemned . Apparently to hush the cacophony of voices that will rise in opposition to the proposed new jet, the Presidency in its usual deceitful manner, has made part payment for what can best be described as a completely unnecessary toy of comfort. The Nigerian PAF is already bloated. If he can't travel in any of the 10 jets in PAF's possession, then there's absolutely no need for an eleventh one. At a time we would think the numerous editorials and op-eds have succeeded in curbing waste and frivolities which this government now symbolises, then came this new proposal. We must continue to resist their recalcitrance. This lavish lifestyle must be checked. The waste in government is also demonstrated in the large entourage that accompanies Mr. President on his foreign trips. One can only imagine the millions spent on hotel bills and estacodes that accrue to the government officials. According to reports, world leaders are stunned at the strangely large number of such entourage. The recent trip of President Jonathan in the first week of January this year to Kenya and the hullabaloo about his entourage are apt. It is shocking that the same people who have budgeted millions for this new flying toy are aware that the country has no national carrier as I write. It is shameful that the PAF has about the third largest fleet of aircraft in the country with a total of 10 aircraft, coming closely behind Aero Contractors with 12 and Arik Air, the largest commercial airline in Nigeria with a fleet of 23 aircraft. Nigeria happens to be one of the few countries in the world with such a large PAF. It is ridiculous that this is happening in an aviation sector that is dominated by foreign airlines. Nigerian carriers are going under due to cash constraints. Countries with visionary and focused leadership like Malaysia, Ghana, South Africa and a host of others across Europe maintain only one aircraft in their PAF. As the much publicised take-off of the proposed national carrier before the end of the year failed, it won't be out of place to make a case for the government to seriously consider converting the PAF to a national carrier, retaining one or two for use by Mr. President and his co-travellers. The private jets can form the hub of the charter aircraft. What better example than the one given by a national leader like British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in 2010 when he slummed it in business class of a commercial airline flying from London to Washington. He was caught on camera swanning around the world in hired jets. He flies around the world on British Airways! Had it been in Nigeria, security risks, flight delays are few of the sundry reasons government officials would have given for not flying commercial airlines. The U.S. President, Barack Obama, reportedly pays for his food, ours spends almost a billion naira to entertain himself and members of his government yearly. It amazes many Nigerians who watch in utter disbelief the profligate nature of government. This government has embarked on some white elephants like mere renovation of official residences with billions of naira. We can recall the uproar that greeted the N2.2billion allocated to the construction of a plush banqueting hall, last year, with the lame excuse that what the country had was way smaller than what other tiny African countries have. In this part of the world, only citizens are asked to cut costs, make sacrifices; the pains of today are incomparable to the joy of tomorrow are some of the 'blues' we get daily from government. In the same breath, political office holders, to our chagrin, take their spending to absurd heights. Sacrifice is a language that the over 60 per cent impoverished population must understand while our leaders continue their obsession with living in opulence. They sacrifice nothing. In these circumstances, how do you convince the various labour unions who are waiting on the flanks to embark on strike to press home their demands that there are no funds to meet their grievances? Downturn in government's finances would be a hard sell in a situation where the Presidency is competing with individuals for private jets. It is lamentable that at a time when we still haven't seen the infrastructural dividends promised with funds freed up from the partial fuel subsidy removed, the President is more concerned with splashing billions on banqueting hall, renovation of residential apartments and covert medical tourism trips abroad. This waste in the face of limited resources extends to the federal bureaucracy that has brought about an increase in the number of ministries from 21 to about 40 with the number of ministers jumping in equal quantum or even more. vanguard | ||

| SAD! Ibadan Polytechnic Student Finally succeeds in Suicide..Hangs self in his room! Posted: 07 Jan 2014 05:53 AM PST ![]() Part-time student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Timilehin Ayobami Ogundare tried to kill himself on Sat January 4th by jumping into River Ogun but was stopped and saved by some security guards who handed him over to men of the vigilante service. Timi was later released. The next day, he succeeded in killing himself by hanging himself in his room with his belt. PM News reports that Timi, who worked as a computer operator in Ibadan, was found dead in his room at Ilupeju area, Baasala, Asero, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday January 5th. A family source disclosed that he'd tried to kill himself last year but was stopped by some people. "The whole issue is still like a drama because I don't know what could have made him decide to take his life. We have been looking for him since January 1. Later, we heard that he went to Lagos. He boarded a train from Lagos back to Abeokuta on Saturday and came down at Lafenwa. He trekked from the station through Enu Gada area to Ajitaadun down to Arakanga area with the aim of jumping into the river. "He was arrested by the security men in the area when they saw him wandering with only his boxer pant on. They handed him over to the Vigilante men at Oke Ilewo for further investigation. We went there to collect him and we were told to come back with him yesterday. On getting to his room, we found out that he had hanged himself. He left a short note, apologizing that he disappointed us," the source narrated in tears. When contacted, the spokesman of the Ogun State Vigilante Service, Mr. Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the incident and expressed shock at the boy's death. "It is unfortunate that what we tried to prevent eventually happened. They (family) were careless with the way they handled the boy. If the boy had been properly monitored, this sad incident wouldn't have happened. We got a distress call on Saturday by local security men around Arakanga that a boy was trying to commit suicide by trying to jump into the river. Our men rushed to the area and took the boy to our office. "In the course of questioning him, he confirmed to us that he left home for Lagos on New Year day but did not tell us where and who he went to meet in Lagos. When we asked about his phone, he said he had no phone but only his sim card was with him. "Sensing that his parents will be looking for him, I directed that his sim card be inserted into a phone, hoping that someone will call his line," Ganzallo said. The vigilante spokesman revealed further that not long after the sim card was inserted into the phone, several calls came in. "We discovered that those calls were from his mother, sister and a pastor. The pastor later called back and demanded to stand as surety for his bail. We agreed. "The man of God arrived with the boy's mother and some relatives. The pastor's name is Wole Oyenekan and he gave his address as Egba Inner Circle Building, Abiola Way, Abeokuta. "We questioned the boy but from what I was able to gather, the boy was determined not to tell anybody his problem. The pastor pleaded with me to hand him over to him. I initially disagreed but after much persuasions and assurance that they will monitor him, I released him to them and asked them to come back on Sunday. "I was shocked when I heard the news that the boy eventually carried out his mission," Ganzallo lamented. Another source disclosed that the teenager perfected his suicide by refusing to go to church on Sunday, feigning illness. "I remember that he told the pastor while coming from the Vigilante's office that he needed some money to pay for his school fees and the pastor told him to see him on Sunday after church service. After the breakfast, he said he was not feeling well and begged to be allowed to stay back, which was granted. "After the church service, he joined other family members to eat the lunch around 4 p.m. After the food, he went into his room and no one bothered to know what he was doing until around 8p.m. when we were looking for him. When we forced his door opened, we met his lifeless body. He hanged himself with his belt. We went to the Obantoko Police Station to report | ||
