Weird! Stunned Fisherman Catches Completely See-through Fish! [PHOTOS]

sea creature

A fisherman in waters north of New Zealand came across an odd-looking, translucent sea creature swimming on the surface. Curious, he caught the creature—presumably scooping it up with a net—to get a closer look.

It was described as a see-through, shrimp-like creature by the U.K. MailOnline.

"It felt scaly and was quite firm, almost jelly like, and you couldn't see anything inside aside from this orange little blob inside it," fisherman Stewart Fraser told MailOnline.

Fraser, who had been fishing with sons Conaugh and Finn 43 miles north of the Karikari Peninsula, took photos and shared them with his fishing buddies, none of whom could identify the sea creature.

"We have no idea what it could have been, but it was quite something, and I'd never seen anything like it before," he said.

Fortunately, the folks at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, U.K., had an idea, identifying it as a Salpa maggiore (Salpa maxima).

Paul Cox, director of conservation and communication at the aquarium, told MailOnline that a salp is barrel-shaped, moves by pumping water through its gelatinous body, and that the life-cycle includes alternate generations of existing as solitary individuals or as a group forming long chains.

"In common with other defenseless animals that occupy open water—jellies and hydroids, for example—the translucence presumably provides some protection from predation," Cox told MailOnline. "Being see-through is a pretty good camouflage in water."

The report doesn't say, but it is presumed Fraser threw the bizarre sea creature back into the ocean.

[MUST READ] Etisalat VS Glo: “Genevieve Nnaji & D’banj May Break Up” – Charles Novia Reveals!

Posted: 27 Jan 2014 09:24 AM PST

Nollywood critic and movie producer, Charles Novia who is known for always having a say in controversial issues has shared his opinion about Genevieve Nnaji's new endorsement deal with Etisalat and how it might affect her romantic relationship with D'banj, Glo ambassador.

Read what he said below

A couple of days ago, there was an excited buzz on social media in Nigeria that Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, has been signed on as one of the new Brand Ambassadors of Etisalat, a telecommunications company operating in Nigeria and sundry parts of the globe. Amid the congratulatory messages from her fans sent to her on some sites, a few cynical remarks caught my attention. (By the way, congrats Ms Nnaji!)

One commentator simply known as 'Da Trut' wrote in one of the comments section in a blog which I reproduce here;

'Congrats, Genevieve. But wait o…your Boyfriend, D'Banj is a Glo Ambassador and now you are an Etisalat Ambassador. It has been reported that two of you will marry this year after being live-in-lovers and dating steadily for a while now. Since both of you have not denied this piece of news, I assume that it is true. With this new deal of yours, does it mean you cannot attend any show sponsored by Globacom in which D'Banj is a headliner despite him being your BF and you being expected to support your beau? And same goes for him too in any of your Etisalat sponsored shows? Won't your relationship be strained by this?'

However nosy this comment may seem to some people, there is an underlying fact which many celebrities and of course the general public have overlooked when it comes to signing brand endorsements. Most of these contracts, if not all, are watertight for the artiste. The dos and don'ts imposed on the artistes could be argued in a civil rights court of law! But then, most artistes are quick to sign off the dotted lines basically because of the lump sum being paid to them by the competing brands. Which is all well and good too, depending on how you look at it.

And don't get me wrong. I wholly commend all the brands cashing in on the perceived goodwill and traction many of these celebs have and investing in their art and to a large extent, the entertainment industry. These brands have uplifted the creative industries through such investments and the industry is the better for it. Really, it is.
However, a glaring reality is coming to the fore and many may laugh it off right now but it is staring at us in the face.

In 2013, many of the live events and sponsored concerts were tepid in performance value. Many of the top acts had been signed by one telecom brand or the other and since the headliners in the music industry have divided their brand endorsements among various telcos, many could not perform for friends or business concerns where a competing telco or brand was a major or support sponsor. This was basically because of watertight caveats in the artistes contracts which forbids them from attending such shows. Thus, most of the live concerts in 2014 in Nigeria were either lacking in major star power or just repetitive in talents signed on by the brands. And the performance value of such events were basically average. Many of the brands which had campus shows suffered this fate.

In October 2013, the Nollywood Movies Awards held at the posh Intercontinental Hotel, in Lagos. Comedian Basketmouth had been hyped as the compere of the evening, supported by Dakore Akande. I was standing at the red carpet lobby, interacting with invited guests as we had cocktails when one of the organisers, Alfred Soroh, came up to me. He whispered to me that there was a problem and it had to be solved urgently.

Apparently, immediately Basketmouth came out of the lift and saw a huge backdrop with Etisalat written on it, he quickly dashed back and refused to compere the show. His reason was that he was a Glo Ambassador and could not be seen on an Etisalat sponsored show. It makes sense. When I asked the organisers if they didn't think it out before deciding on Basketmouth as the compere, they explained that Etisalat came in just a few days to the event. Segun Arinze, a tested and trusted hand, had to be drafted immediately to co-compere the event.

The example above is one of many others which are a usual occurrence. My gut feeling is this; the business will grow for the brands but the whole performance and event industry may very well suffer for this. For example, if a movie awards event had MTN as the major sponsor and 50% of the nominees are Glo Ambassadors, only an idiot would need explanations on why half the nominees would not be present at the awards even if they eventually won. Same goes for music awards events. This cycle is becoming predictable. And the performance value suffers for it.

But there may be those who would argue that the brands are capable of sponsoring their own events with only their brand ambassadors as headliners. I concur but for every show such brands sponsor, it becomes predictable. I would know that any MTN show would have Wizkid, KCee, Davido, Don Jazzy and other ambassadors as performers just as a Glo event would have MI, Bez, Lynnx, Omawunmi, Burna Boy, D'Banj etc as performers. Truth be told, when you watch them once, you have watched it all. Bring them up again in another sponsored show, even for free and many would reluctantly attend just as many would not. Performance value.

Brand Managers reading this may well snigger at this but I would advise that they meet with their counterparts in other companies suffering this same problem and iron out a few of these issues. Artistes must be free to attend other shows of competing brands as long as they don't endorse the sponsoring brand nor endorse their own brand in such shows. Harmony is needed. The entertainment industry should not be cannon fodder for the corporate wars. In 2014, we all must enhance the performance value. (By the way, that phrase is my coinage and I think I like it.)

The artistes themselves must step up their game. There is too much emphasis on the cars they buy or the shoes they wear by their publicists, which is not bad by itself but it gets overdone and sometimes come out in bad taste. Artistes should be seen to be adding value to their lives and the society through more of personal social responsibility programmes rather than personal 'I don buy am' publicity stunts.

Granted, how they spend their money is entirely their business but the people out there don't really know how they MAKE their money most times. And it's not from shows or endorsements only as they are made to believe. Story for another day. What I am saying is; how many of these new generation artistes have impacted positively on the moral conscience and inspirational equity of the youths? Very few. In music, almost none.

In Nollywood, just a cosmetic impact. Story again for another day.

But I am not going to knock anyone in this write-up. I commend the dedicated efforts we all have put over the years to build the entertainment industry to this level. But the level is still in a pre-foundation stage.

The structures are lacking. As we like to say all the time ' but we will get there!'. Where 'there' is is as good your guess as mine.

And my opinion is basically, my opinion.

INCREDIBLE!! 14-yr-old boy plans Grand-mum’s kidnap, Collects N150,000 Ransom!

Posted: 27 Jan 2014 07:37 AM PST

Men of the Delta State Police command have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly masterminding the kidnap of his grandmother.

Ironically, the abductors also took away the boy along with the grandmother and another victim in the process of kidnap but dropped off the accused before getting to their hideout.

It was also not the first time the boy had planned the abduction of his grandmother to enable him share from the ransom.

State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Charles Muka gave a vivid account of the incident.

According to him: "This is a case of conspiracy in which a grandson, for the second time, planned his grandmother's  kidnap.

"On 17th of this month in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area at 6pm, one Hope Evivie, a 62-year-old woman, was kidnapped with the suspect, Julius Evivie, a14-year-old boy and Victory Oghenero, also a four-year-old boy.

"However, the suspect was later dropped off on the road while the victim was taken away with the other four-year-old until January 25 when they were released without ransom.

"Through information, the roles of the suspect was revealed and on interrogation he confessed to receiving N150,000 for the role he played during the earlier kidnap when N4 million ransom was paid.

"The suspect will be charged to  court at the end of investigation. Parents and guardians are advised to limit information about themselves to their children, drivers and domestic servants. This incident has re-affirmed our (police) assertion that all kidnappings have insiders' roles."

UNBELIEVABLE!! Nigerian Gay Governors and Top Politicians Declare War On President Jonathan! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 27 Jan 2014 06:07 AM PST

Fresh and authentic news filtering in social circle indicates that a group of powerful politicians, who are prominent in the act of homos*xuality, are the force behind the seemingly unpopular agitation against the anti-gay bill, which was recently signed into law by President Goodluck Jonathan. At the forefront of this group is a very powerful oligarchy, which has seen it all in the business circle having been on the board of many viable companies including a bank owned by a very powerful chief from the South West.

Also prominent in this clique is a top politician in the seat of governance in Nigeria, whose voice cannot be ignored as he stands as the most powerful politico from his stock in the present dispensation.
Two Governors from a very influential geographical area in the country are also neck-deep in this agitation against the Bill, but cannot come out to admit their preference for same s*x.
The last personality that cannot be ignored is this slim-built politician, who sources say might be back to reckoning soon in the scheme of things in the country.
Our investigations revealed that the godfather of this powerful league of homos*xuals is now the vice-president of a powerful elitist sport that once claimed the life of a top government official many years back.
A source actually revealed that this group operates like a cult; they know themselves and always ensure that their members rise into prominence.
The said leader always dresses like a monarch and goes around in a full paraphernalia of royalty in view of the powerful title he holds in the particular part of the country he hails from, he is in his 70s or early 80s now.
"He is stupendously rich, a traditional title holder and served on the board of a popular bank owned by a powerful chief from another part of the country, you can also trace his fingers on the board of many blue chip companies. The first Governor is slim-built, very handsome and deeply close to the big man in the government circle, he actually owned his rise to this quiet and also good looking politician, who sources said has slept with some of the aides of this Governor and the Governor himself.
"This set of folks is known to take advantage of poverty stricken gang boys, with promises of empowering them financially. It couldn't have been worse than Sodom and Gomorrah," a source told us.
The second Governor is said to be neck deep in this gay mess that his exploits once threatened his government and he had to practically go on his belly to appease a group, which threatened to expose his activities about four years ago.
"At a point, the most popular talk on the streets of the state capital is this phrase "the Governor, who goes in pampers," you know what that means, it is now that he is getting ready to quit office that he is having the effrontery to talk.
"These are high ranking gangs bankrolling the activities of the gay rights group behind the iron curtain, I wish they can be bold enough to show their faces just like their counterparts in the western world," said our source.
Our investigations revealed that they are aware of the implications and would do or go to any length to cover their tracks.
"They use middlemen, who are close to them to reach out to these gay rights advocates to give them the courage and the financial backing to fight their cause in Nigeria and abroad," a source told our reporter last week.
The Nigerian anti-gay law bans same-s*x marriages, defying a threat from Britain to withhold aid from nations violating gay rights.
The law by Africa's most populous nation calls for a 14-year sentence for anyone convicted of homos*xuality. Anyone who aids or "abets" same-s*x unions faces 10 years in prison, a provision that could target rights groups.
Homos*xuality is illegal in most African countries based on remnants of sodomy laws introduced during the
British colonial era and perpetuated by cultural beliefs

When Love Turns Sour! Wife Who Gave Husband Her Kidney To Save His Life Wants It Back After Divorce! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 27 Jan 2014 05:02 AM PST

Happier times: Samantha Lamb and her husband Andy photographed in 2009 before the operation

A wife who saved her dying husband's life by giving him one of her kidneys wants it back after he walked out on her.

Andy Lamb was suffering from renal failure and was only being kept alive by dialysis sessions, until his wife Samantha persuaded him to take one of her kidneys.

Mrs Lamb, 41, lost more than 3st in weight to make sure that she would be healthy enough for the transplant operation in October 2009.

The couple were even filmed for a BBC show which documented the story of her gift  of love. But they did not live happily ever after.

Just a few years after the life-saving procedure, their marriage was over when Mr Lamb walked out on his wife in August 2012.

Mrs Lamb is adamant that her husband started having an affair with her friend – a claim he categorically denies.

He moved his belongings out of their marital home one evening while she was working a night shift at Tesco.

He also took the TV and stereo before posting the keys through the letterbox without a note or letter, she claims.

The couple, from Ivybridge, Devon, met when they were both drivers for a private ambulance firm and started dating in 2004.

After a brief split, when they had to live apart from each other for a short period of time, they decided to get married in 2007.

However, Mr Lamb's condition meant he soon became dependent on gruelling dialysis sessions.

His wife explained: 'He needed a new kidney or he would die. He was on dialysis three times a week. I told Andy he should go through with it [the transplant].

'He had children from an earlier relationship and he wanted to be there for them.' Mrs Lamb says she now regrets donating the kidney to her husband and wishes she could have it back – if only to donate it to someone more deserving.

She told the Sunday People: 'I would definitely go through the operation again but I wouldn't give the kidney to him.

'I hate him. If I could, then I would take it back and give it to someone else.

'Obviously I don't want people to be put off putting their names on the organ donor list.

'But all I want from him is his name on the divorce papers.'

Mr Lamb, 45, who denies having an affair with his wife's friend, said: 'I never wanted her to donate her kidney because it was a big risk. But she insisted and I'll always owe her my life.'

He added: 'I loved her but our relationship wasn't working. We had big rows and her family never liked me.

'Despite what Samantha believes, I have never been with her friend. I just helped her to train her dog.'

The mother-of-one now wants a divorce and says that she is trying to get on with her life – although she is reminded about the break-up whenever she sees her 4in operation scar.

She does have one comfort, however, saying: 'At least he always has to remember where his kidney came from.'

Amazing video: Watch The Incredible Moment A Boy Is Removed Alive From Under Rubble In Syria

Posted: 27 Jan 2014 01:14 AM PST

A toddler is plucked ALIVE from underneath rubble in remarkable new footage to emerge from Syria tonight. The little lad is completely buried beneath rock and dust as the eight-minute video begins. But a group of men rush to clear it away after apparently hearing the boy's cries.

One of his arms is first to emerge through the rubble and as more rock is moved away his head comes into view. Minutes later the toddler is dragged completely free and despite appearing to look dazed appears alive and well. The incredible film, uploaded to YouTube by Syrian activists, was understood to have been taken in a rebel-held district of Alepp 24 hours after air strikes were reported in the city.
