| Posted: 02 Jan 2014 11:50 AM PST Former Nigerian Aviation Minister Femi Fani Kayode says it is former president Olusegun Obasanjo's responsibility to help rid the country of President Goodluck Jonathan since he imposed him on the Nigerian people. He said this in defense of the former president's open letter to the president. "He more than anybody else has the responsibility- if he doesn't want to be judged harshly by history to ensure that Goodluck Jonathan does not come back in 2015", he said.Speaking on Sahara TV Mr. Kayode was full of praise for Former President Obasanjo calling his action courageous. "This is a man I've known for the past 11 years. He is not the type of man that will say something that he doesn't mean". Mr. Kayode said he believes the letter was written out of deep concern for the country. On the alleged 1000-man hit list referred to in the letter, Mr. Kayode said he believes Mr. Obasanjo speaks with conviction and that the government has been challenged in the letter to deny the allegation. Mr. Kayode who describes himself as a close associate of the former president however opted not to comment on a letter that made the rounds after the fabled letter purported to be written by Obasanjo's estranged daughter Iyabo Obasanjo. "These are personal issues which do not in any way concern me", he said. Mr. Kayode said Mr. Obasanjo is father of the nation and has stood up to speak in crucial times when nobody had the temerity to do so. He debunked any suggestion that Mr. Obasanjo was considering unseating President Jonathan saying the former President is totally committed to democracy. He said Obasanjo's aim is to protect democracy by ensuring that the president acts in a "sensible democratic manner". Speaking on another letter written by Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi, Mr. Kayode commended the governor for exposing the rot. In the letter, Mr. Sanusi claimed that about $49 billion which was supposed to be deposited with the bank has not reached the exchequer. He however suggested that Sanusi should have resigned his position as a matter of principle. He also said that the APC's bid to unseat the Jonathan government should include an alliance with power brokers like Obasanjo. "You cannot be serious about winning power in Nigeria without talking to an Obasanjo or a Babangida or all these people", he said. He also said PDP is likely to rig the Osun and Ekiti State as well as the 2015 federal elections but If that happens people are likely to take matters into their own hands.  |

Posted: 02 Jan 2014 09:06 AM PST  In what appears to be an election campaign statement to rebut those who say his government has failed, President Jonathan has in a New Year message to Nigerians rolled out a list of his "achievements" in the past year. Among them, he claimed his government may have been responsible for an astounding 1.6 million jobs in 2013 alone, but did not clarify where the jobs were filled. "Our national budget for 2014 which is now before the National Assembly is specifically targeted at job creation and inclusive growth," he said. "We are keenly aware that in spite of the estimated 1.6 million new jobs created across the country in the past 12 months as a result of our actions and policies, more jobs are still needed to support our growing population. Our economic priorities will be stability and equitable growth, building on the diverse sectors of our economy." Mr. Jonathan did not say anything about the challenge of leading by example, and only referred to corruption and bad governance, which his critics claim he is nurturing in the country, in passing. "I urge all Nigerians, no matter their stations in life, to rededicate themselves to contributing meaningfully to further enrich our national heritage. The self-described "attack lion" of President Goodluck Jonathan dismissed the view that the merger would rout the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election, calling the forces behind it unserious people that are incapable of causing a major upset in national politics. "Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari are not serious- minded people; they are going round like people dancing in a market place," he said, defiantly. "I expect that when you post an aggregate of people of that calibre who want to run government, by now they must have a policy statement on power, agriculture and employment and not just talking about PDP leaving. "Is it by mouth that they will run the nation? These are not serious-minded people. Can someone get your vote by using word of mouth that PDP should leave without a policy?" Okupe was hinging his political prediction on the projection that the president's joker, which is stable electricity, is attained by 2014, the opposition would be punctured and rendered ineffective. Specifically dismissing Tinubu, he held that the ACN chieftain has ridden roughshod over the South-west, but that Nigeria is bigger than that. "This is their first time out in national politics; alright, and let me give you some bad news: the relevance that ACN has in Nigerian politics is that they are a Yoruba party. That is what makes them relevant in politics and by dropping that toga, the party is dead.  |

| Warri-based Pastor disappears after auto crash in Osun! Posted: 02 Jan 2014 05:40 AM PST  Anxiety is mounting over the sudden disappearance of the General Overseer of Christ Worshippers Church with headquarters at Osubi, Effurun, Warri, Delta State Prophet Duromola Adedayo Samuel. One source said Prophet Duromola might have met his death in a ghastly auto crash that occurred, yesterday, between 6.00 p.m and 8.00 p.m. along Akure-Ilesa expressway. But another source said he might also have been a victim of kidnap. A source in Ikeji Arakeji area where the crash occurred disclosed that after the crash and the vehicle veered into the bush, they tried to give a helping hand but did not meet anybody inside the vehicle with the number plate already removed. Osun State police command spokesperson, Mrs Folasade Odoro, said there was no official report to that effect while family members from Owo, Ondo State claimed that they had gone to various hospitals in Owena, Ikeji-Arakeji, Ipetu-Ijesa, Ilesa as his whereabout was still unknown at press time. According to the family members on search party, the vehicle was found but the prophet was not found, adding that no blood stain or anything curious was noticed at the scene of the accident. Elder Boro, a member of the Board of Trustees of the church in a telephone interview said Prophet Samuel phone rang throughout the night without response. He added that may be he was praying on the mountain in Ilesa. This was corroborated by Pastor Paul Opoweh, the Prophet's personal assistant, who said efforts to reach him on phone proved abortive. When the wife, Prophetess Eseoghene Blessing Duromola was contacted, she said Prophet Sanuel went to a mountain at Ilesa, with a promise to return to Akure to pick her and the children to Warri for the end of the year vigil but that did not happen. | SAD NEWS! One dies, another injured in New Year Auto Crash! Posted: 02 Jan 2014 04:23 AM PST  CELEBRATIONS of the new year turned sour for Assistant Sales Representatives of the Nation Newspapers in Ibadan, and his colleague who works for ThisDay Newspaper as they were involved in a fatal accident. The accident that happened around 1:25 a.m, yesterday claimed the life of the Nation staff, Timothy Adeosun, while his friend is still at the Emergency and Accident section of the University College Hospital, Ibadan where doctors are battling to save his life. The two of them were said to be on their way from a church service when they crashed on Oke-Padre Salvation Army Road, Ibadan. According to reports, the driver of a car marked Lagos FKJ 894 DC veered off his lane and ran into Adeosun and his friend who were on a bike. Confirming the tragic incident, the Divisional Transport Officer at Mokola Police Station, Oyelowo Asimiyu, said the driver of the car was in their custody. He said investigation into the incident revealed that the driver of the Acura car left his lane, hit the two victims and the impact sent them into a ditch. "The Nation newspaper dispatch rider died shortly after due to the injuries he sustained while ThisDay newspaper man had serious injuries in his right thigh and chest. Chairman, Newspapers Distributors Association of Nigeria (NDAN), Mr. Babatunde Abimbola, said someone called at about 1:30a.m that Timothy Adeosun had a fatal accident. He said: "Sympathizers at the scene of the accident offered assistance by taking him to a nearby hospital but he rejected. Not only that, the boy with Babalola was writhing in pains as about seven hospitals rejected them. He said they were turned back at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital, state hospital at Adeoyo, until they were eventually admitted to Accident and Emergency Unit of UCH, Ibadan after much plea. The Correspondent of the Nation newspaper in Ibadan, Bisi Oladele, said: "Our thoughts are with the Adeosuns at this critical time. | How Ibadan Children spent their New Year at Shoprite Ibadan! [PHOTO] Posted: 02 Jan 2014 03:39 AM PST  Do you remember how Ibadan residents flooded shop rite when it was newly opened in June, 2013 and how some school kids were taken to the mall for excursion...well, they are in the news again. In celebrating the new year, some kids visited the mall with their parents/guardians and ended up spending most part of their visit at the mall's escalator. You see, the kids were initially so scared of the elevator, but when they finally got to use it, they loved it and took turns going up and down the elevator from dawn till dusk. kfb  |
