| EFCC Arrests Kano State's Speaker of House of Assembly and 11 others..After their Defection To APC! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 03:11 PM PST ![]() The EFCC Monday swooped on the Kano State House of Assembly and detained the Speaker of the House, Alh. Gambo Sallau, alongside principal officers in what the state government has described as a political assault on the state government following the mass defection of the State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Kwakwanso alongside several other key politicians in government positions to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Arrested alongside the Speaker are the Deputy Speaker, Isyaku Ali Danja, the Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip, Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Chairman House Committee on Finance and Clerk of the House. Continue... A statement by the Government of Kano State said it noted with utter disappointment and surprise, the arrest of the officials. The statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations to the state governor, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, stated that the public officials were apparently arrested in connection with the budget amendment of 2013 of the State Government, which has already been signed into law by the state governor, Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso. The statement added that the Speaker and his colleagues have only exercised their constitutional responsibilities of ensuring that budgets are properly articulated, to ensure probity and accountability in public expenditure, so that in the end, the citizens enjoy dividends of democracy. "It is Chrystal clear that the above mentioned public officials were arrested by the EFCC on the orders from the above, because of the legislators' defection to APC, in support of Governor Kwankwaso," the government said, adding that "This action is obviously to intimidate and cow them into submission for choosing to move to the progressive fold. This action is not only despicable and absurd but also capable of igniting crisis in the polity, thereby breaching the relative peace that is being enjoyed in Kano state. It is regrettable that the EFCC is allowing itself to be a tool of witch-hunt in the hands of powers that be." The Will Nigeria contacted the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwajaren, to seek further information on why the officials were detained and the allegation of witch-hunt, he urged us to email our questions for a formal response. Mr. Uwajaren's had not responded to our questions as at the time of filing this report. |

| CHECK-OUT Photos From Nollywood Ace Director, Kunle Afolayan's Wedding!! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 02:29 PM PST This is how a wedding scene should look like in movies, my point has always been, if you are ever going to produce a movie, count the cost, give us a quality movie not some run-off-the-mill productions. These are some scenes from ace cinematographer, Tunde Kelani's new movie, "Dazzling Mirage". He just wrapped up shooting of the film and trust me, it really looks good (well anything from Tunde Kelani has never been disappointing) Kunle Afolayan and Kemi Lala Akindoju's wedding scene is splendid. Top surprises were thewedding invitation card and the Alaga Iduro (MC). The movie which also features Bimbo Manuel, Bukola Awoyemi (Arugba) famous Fuji artiste, Adewale Ayuba and Don Jazzy's Dad, Enebeli Collins would be released in 2014. |

| Nigerian Govt to sell Made-in-Nigeria Cars For N1.2m! – FG Reveals! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 10:34 AM PST ![]() The Federal Government, in a bid to ensure the successful implementation of its recently approved National Automotive Industry Development Plan, said it would encourage local auto manufacturers to produce less expensive models with price range of between N1.2m and N1.5m. It also said it would collaborate with auto manufacturers, franchise holders, reputable motor dealers and selected banks to put in place an all-inclusive domestic dealership network through which a user-friendly vehicle purchase scheme could be funded by the National Automotive Council. These are contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the NAC and obtained by our correspondent in Abuja. The statement said, "Under market development, the NAIDP anticipated that higher-end expensive models will still be imported into the country in the initial stage, but the new strategy is to encourage local auto manufacturers to focus primarily on lower-end less expensive models with price range of between N1.2m and N1.5m; which is affordable to the middle class, coupled with other finance options." The statement added that the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, had constituted two committees to ensure seamless implementation of the recently approved automotive plan. The first is the Automotive Industry Policy Implementation and Monitoring Committee, with members drawn from broad-based industry stakeholders, including the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers/Assemblers Association and the Automobile Local Content Manufacturers Association. Others are the Automobile Franchise Holders (Mercedez Benz, Kia, Suzuki, CFAO, Toyota, Volvo, Globe Motors, Dana, Balyn Motors, Metropolitan Motors), Used Vehicle Dealers Association, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the Original Equipment Manufacturers. The second body is the Inter Agency Implementation Committee made up of representatives of relevant government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Federal ministries of Power, Solid Minerals and Federal Ministry of Finance, Office of the National Security Adviser, Bank of Industry, Nigerian Ports Authority, and Raw Materials Research and Development Council, among others. The Director-General, NAC, Mr. Aminu Jalal, said in the statement that under the NAIDP skills development, there would be extensive local and international manpower development programmes aimed at ensuring that, over the next four to six years, skilled positions in all auto industries in the country were occupied by Nigerians. To ensure that the cars produced are of good quality, the statement said NAC was currently building automotive component test centres and laboratories to conduct vehicle homologation and other comprehensive tests of parts and components that would enhance overall product quality. The statement said, "Under investment promotion, fiscal measures and patronage strategies are being introduced to create enabling environment, allowing existing assembly plants to flourish, while attracting new core investors like Nissan, Renault, GM and Toyota; which had expressed interest, to establish plants in Nigeria. "For policy consistency, NAIDP is formulated as a 10-year programme (2013-2024) subject to review after five years while its major elements would be legislated over the next two years." |

| 'Why i Stopped Acting' - Nollywood Veteran Actor Charles Okafor! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 10:37 AM PST Have you been wondering where this actor has been? No need to worry any more, he's finally broken the silence. Actor, Charles Okafor has opened up on why he's been lying low for a while. Okafor, a Nollywood veteran popped up at a popular event in Lagos and disclosed the reason why he's been off the radar for a while. The actor told The Entertainer that it's because he's found Christ: "I've been lying low for a while because I diverted into Advocacy and human-angle films as a consequence of my new found faith. I'm still a career actor and a film maker but I am mindful of the scripts I do. A time come in the life of any professional when he seats back and takes stock of his professional issues and the legacy he want to live behind from the spiritual stand point of view. "You cannot just do any kind of film anymore if you're going to be the light to the nations of the world. We must be seen in the context of the things that glorify God in totally," Okafor declared. "I'm driven to do advocacy films because they address social issues, human angle and spiritual issues that borders on the kingdom. That explains why I might not be as visible as I was some years back. According to the actor: You see, you cannot eat your cake and still have it. You cannot serve God and serve Marmon. You must clearly define where your stand. I have put my hands to the plow so I shouldn't look back but that those not remove the fact that I'm still a career actor and film maker," Okafor added. | HEART BREAKING! Meet the Woman who waited for her solider husband to return from war for 63years! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 10:38 AM PST ![]() Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Gantt told his wife to remarry if he didn't come back from the war. She told him no. He had a hard enough time getting her to say yes. He was it. For 63 years, the World War II and Korean War veteran was missing in action and presumed dead, but Clara Gantt, 94, held out hope and never remarried. On a cold, dark Friday morning on the Los Angeles International Airport tarmac, the widow stood from her wheelchair and cried as her husband's flag-draped casket arrived home. "I am very, very proud of him. He was a wonderful husband, an understanding man," she told TV reporters at the airport. "I always did love my husband, we was two of one kind, we loved each other. And that made our marriage complete." Joseph Gantt joined the Army in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He met his wife on a train from Texas to Los Angeles in 1946 and they married two years later. They had no children. In the Korean War, he was assigned as a field medic, Battery C, 503rd Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, when he was taken prisoner by North Korean forces in December 1950. He died in March 1951, it was learned later, but his remains were only recently returned to the U.S. and identified, said Bob Kurkjian, executive director of USO Greater Los Angeles Area. Clara Gantt, of Inglewood, bought a home and got a gardener so that when her husband returned, he wouldn't have to work in the yard — he could just go fishing and do whatever he wanted, she said. "I bought a home for him. And I am in that home now," she said. In her bedroom, the widow keeps a shrine with her husband's awards, including the Bronze Star with Valor, awarded posthumously for his combat leadership actions while defending his unit's position, and a Purple Heart, Kurkjian said. Joseph Gantt will be buried later this month. The pylons at LAX glowed red, white and blue in honor of the veteran's return, and an Airport Police and Army honor guard met the plane as it touched down from Honolulu, where the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and forensics labs are located. "It's a holiday homecoming for the Gantt family to finally be able to close that chapter and move forward knowing with certainty that their husband, uncle, great uncle is finally home," Kurkjian said. This is third Korean War veteran whose remains have been brought home in the last 18 months, he said. LA Times! |

| Meet The first American openly gay Imam! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 08:12 AM PST The land of freedom, America, now boast of an openly gay Imam. And the Muslim community is not happy about it. Imam Daayiee Abdulah, the only openly gay Imam in America & possibly the world, was born and raised a Baptist Christian faithful in Detroit but converted to Islam while studying in China. Upon his conversion, he noticed the spiritual gap lesbians, gays & transsexuals in the Islamic faith had and decided to become an Imam so as to provide an ideal Islamic support for them, he says. "Being an openly gay imam and having been identified as such, I do get a lot of feedback and also kickback, but that's OK," he said. "I think that when people are unfamiliar with things, they tend to have an emotional knee-jerk reaction to it. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. And because of the necessity in our community, that's why I came into this particular role."Abdulah, who says he told his parents he was gay at age 15, converted to Islam at the age of 33 and went on to study the religion in Egypt, Jordan and Syria. Asked what was his first spiritual act as an Imam, Abdulahi says it was the funeral for a gay Muslim who had died of AIDS. Continue... "They had contacted a number of imams, and no one would go and provide him his janazah services. This pained me. I believe every person, no matter if I disagree with you or not, you have the right as a Muslim to have the proper spiritual rites and rituals provided for you. And whoever judges you, that will be Allah's decision, not me. The beautiful thing about God is that when you change your attitude, and say, 'God, I need some help,' and mean it sincerely, God is always there for you,"Abdullah serves as the imam and educational director of the Light of Reform Mosque in Washington, D.C, a place he calls a a rare safe space for Muslim LGBT. In his Mosque, which he founded in 2011, women and men kneel side-by-side and women are allowed to lead prayers, an actions that have sparked controversy in the Muslim world. ![]() |
| Popular Nigerian Entertainer, Alariwo of Africa was beaten up by area boys! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 07:50 AM PST ![]() Popular artiste Rotimi Martins aka Alariwo of Africa will not forget December 19 in a hurry. He was allegedly beaten up on Thursday by 'area' boys at the launch of the debut album of Ewade, wife of popular On-Air Personality (OAP) Soji Omotayo. The launch of the album titled Ore Ofe was full of music, fun and entertainment. But Alariwo, the master of ceremony got more than he bargained for when he was accosted by street urchins Trouble was said to have started when he reportedly failed to acknowledge the presence of gospel music act, Busola Oke, alias Eleyele, on the occasion. According to an eye witness account, Alariwo also asked the people whom he didn't recognize to forward their names to him. "Immediately, Eleyele told some people that Alariwo was fond of looking down on her at events. She equally disclosed that her age-long problem with Alariwo is due to the fact that she has refused to address him as 'Brother'," the source said. However, what many could not explain was how the Area boys, who were outside the hall, got hint of what our source described as "Alariwo's arrogant attitude." It was also gathered that immediately he wrapped up his performance and stepped out of the hall, the area boys descended on him mercilessly. "He made an attempt to run for his dear life. He tried to seek cover in a building around the venue. While he was being beaten, the hoodlums screamed that he had disgraced Eleyele on several occasions, so he deserved to be beaten," he disclosed. | 'Don’t Use My Name To Scatter Nigeria' – Patience Jonathan AKA Mama Peace! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 07:15 AM PST ![]() Nigeria first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has reacted to what she called as campaign of calumny against her. Her position is contained in a statement issued by her spokesperson, Ayo Adesugba, on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, December 19, This Day newspaper published on its frontpage a report titled "First Lady Threatens PDP Governors Over Tukur." Commenting the said report, Adesugba stated it made reference to an unnamed source which alleged that the First Lady met with some Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pressed them to support Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the PDP National Chairman, to keep his position. Patience Jonathan's spokesperson called media professionals to be more mature in reporting and adhere to the basic ethics of journalism by being fair, factual and balanced. "The article made reference to a vague source with no name. No reporter approached the First Lady or her office for comments or at least to ascertain the veracity of the story. In that respect, the story was not balanced. "The language used in the report cannot be called fair. In fact, it should draw consternation from all well meaning individuals as being uncharitable. Words like "haranguing the party's governors" and "Threatens PDP Governors" are not only untrue but capable of causing disaffection and portraying the First Lady in a bad light, reads the statement. Adesugba further noted the First lady, as any citizen of Nigeria, is guaranteed the freedom of expression and freedom of association by the Nigerian Constitution. "For the avoidance of doubt, it must be stated clearly that the First Lady has never harangued or threatened anyone, needless to say, serving governors," he added. The spokesperson reminded that of the Patience Jonathan's efforts towards a peaceful nation, saying that last Tuesday she led a National Women Fasting and Prayer for Peace and Unity in Nigeria event in Abuja. "Nobody should, under any guise, use the name of the First Lady to cause division or discord in the nation as she has committed herself to fasting and praying for the peace and unity of Nigeria." he stated. |

| [MUST READ] 'How FG Lavished N4.7trn in 8yrs' - House of Representatives Reveals! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 06:20 AM PST The Public Accounts Committee, PAC, of the House of Representatives revealed at the weekend that over N4 trillion was spent from 2004 to 2012 by the Federal Government from Service-wide Vote without the approval of the National Assembly. The committee said due process was not followed in the manner such a huge sum was lavished, noting that it contravened Section 80 of 1999 constitution. House of Representatives during plenary Chairman of PAC, Adeola Olamilekan (APC-Lagos), who disclosed these at a briefing of journalists, said the expenditure was made without parliamentary approval, starting from the government of President Obasanjo to that of President Goodluck Jonathan. Olamilekan explained that "most of the expenditures to which the Service-wide Vote releases were deployed are routine in nature and did not qualify for emergency funding. "For instance, between 2004 and 2012, a total of N1, 284,853,731.20 was spent on publicity and publication of various government programmes. "Between 2004 and 2005, N250 million was spent on the upkeep of the former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, another N14,006,494.847.57 was also released from the Service-wide Vote for the payment of judgement debts against the Federal Government. "The office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance released to their various offices a total of N2, 267,002,101 to a few auditors as audit fees and in 2011 alone, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation paid out N809,358,504 as audit fees to some external auditors carrying out audit of the Federal Government financial activities instead of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation." He also alleged that over N160 million was released for the Budget and Accountant General's offices. He said further: "The expenditure of N162million from the 2011 Service Wide Votes releases tagged; "Closing Accounts" incurred jointly by the Office of the Accountant-General and the Budget Office of the Federation. "An expenditure of N1,059,177,589.31($6,619,859.93 at the rate of $1=N160) in 201 and 2011 said to payment of outstanding tax on Nigeria House in New York. "Successive governments have from 2004 to 2012. Spent a whopping N4.17 trillion as against N1.8trillion approved by the National Assembly as Service Wide Votes component of the budgets of those years, translating to N2.27trillion extra budgetary spending or 220% above the Service Wide Votes as approved in the budget for the period." He explained that "such extra-budgetary expenditures constitute a breach of Section 81 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended) and an illegality." Olamilekan also said PAC discovered in the course of its oversight that the Service-Wide Vote was converted to a recurrent fund by the government, instead of an infrastructure vote. "Such releases were mainly used to finance recurrent expenses not targeted at critical and strategic sectors of the economy and the releases were random and did not follow any clear pattern. "The Service Wide Votes had become an alternative budget which government prefers to patronize than the annual budget, leading to poor implementation of the annual budget as approved by the National Assembly," he added. The report was earlier last Thursday presented by Olamilekan to the House which resolved that the committee should do more on its findings and present another report within two weeks. The Service Wide Wide is the fund set aside for emergency purposes. Vanguard |

| Catholics Replies Pastor Kumuyi 'Christmas is idolatrous' Sermon! Posted: 23 Dec 2013 04:19 AM PST ![]() The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, has reacted to Pastor Kumuyi's proclamation about the celebration of Christmas. He told Dailypost thus: "I don't know what he means by saying the practice of celebrating Christmas is wrong. "Is he saying that Christ wasn't born? That he didn't come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday? "Do Kumuyi's pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ."The celebration of Christmas didn't just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don't know what it is about. If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God's promise. "I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement." On his part, the spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, said that Christmas is worth celebrating. Otoibhi told Punch in a telephone interview that the origin of Christmas was not as important as its essence. He said, "The origin of Christmas, as we know it, could be traced to Roman Emperor, Constantine. Christmas was a day for celebrating the Sun God. However, because Constantine was a Christian, the day was changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. "The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus.
