Yaya Toure Named 2013 BBC African Footballer of the Year!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 11:58 AM PST

The Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, who had been nominated in each of the past four years, beat Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses, John Mikel Obi and Jonathan Pitroipa to this year's crown.

The 30-year-old told BBC Sport: "I think I've been nominated for five years in a row and finally winning the award is amazing.

"I'm very happy as it is the fans who have given it to me - so I'm very appreciative"

Yaya Toure

"It's a fantastic achievement because I don't think there has ever been as many quality African players in top-level international football as there are now: Aubameyang, Pitroipa, Mikel, Moses, Salomon Kalou, Gervinho... we have fantastic players.

"I also think African football is improving and that means a lot to us. And as an African, I'm very happy."

The shortlist for the award was drawn up by 44 football experts across Africa, who based their choices on players' skill, technical ability, teamwork, consistency and fair play.

A record number of fans then voted for their favourite either online or by text message.

And those fans have considered Toure to be the standout African player over the past year, in recognition of the Ivorian's displays of power, pace, creativity and goals.

Toure said: "Thank you to all the fans around the world who continue to support me. It shows how much fans love you and appreciate your job as well.

"It's something special because it's not the vote of the manager or the club or the captain of the national team, it's just the fans.

"When you have a lot of fans behind you, it's always amazing. And I'm very happy as it is the fans who have given it to me - so I'm very appreciative."

Past winners

2001 - Sammy Kuffour (Bayern Munich & Ghana)
    2000 - Patrick Mboma (Parma & Cameroon)

While 2013 was not the most successful in terms of silverware for Toure - he did not manage to win anything with club or country - he still impressed hugely with his consistently high level of performances.

And after the disappointment of failure to defend the Premier League title with City, Toure came back stronger at the start of the new season and has added a new dimension to his game in the form of free-kicks.

He curled in a sublime effort against Newcastle United on the first day of the season and repeated the feat against Hull in his side's next home match. Toure has scored four times direct from a set-piece so far in the league this term in a total of seven goals for his club.

In 2013 to date, Toure has found the net 13 goals for club and country - a very respectable figure for a midfielder.

Allied to his clinical finishing, Toure's drive and leadership have helped City to fourth in the league table.

He was also a key figure in Ivory Coast's successful qualification for next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.

The Elephants needed to shrug off a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations Campaign earlier in the year - they lost in the quarter-finals to eventual winners Nigeria - and Toure has been inspirational.

Off the field, Toure has led the fight against racism after suffering abuse during a Champions League match against Russia's CSKA Moscow in October - demonstrating a strength of character to match his sporting ability.

The unsavoury episode might have affected the form of lesser players, but Toure has been exceptional ever since.

And in the fifth consecutive year he has been nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year award, Toure has finally been voted the best player on the continent.

Catholics are not Christians and have never been, They will All go to hell Because they worship Satan- Chris Okotie

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 11:28 AM PST

All Catholics in the world will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an Anti-Christ Pope who is a friend to the devil, Nigeria's controversial preacher and former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, told his congregation on Sunday, leaving members bewildered.
Fifty-five year old Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Ikeja area of Lagos, western Nigeria, said the Catholic church is "a counterfeit church set up by Satan" and that Catholics "bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus' body."
"They are not Christians and have never been," Okotie told a stunned congregation.
"They don't know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It's ritual," Okotie said.
He said Pope Francis is an Anti-Christ who does the job of the devil and that time is fast approaching when the Catholic church will pledge allegiance to Satan.
"The pope is an Anti-Christ and the Catholic church will soon declare for Satan. This is the end of times," Okotie erupted.
He advised members of his church to come to the rescue of Catholics and evangelise them.
This, he said, was not out of disrespect but out of respect for the word of God.
He said those who know the truth should bring it to those who do not know it in the Catholic Church.
Okotie said one of the Catholic most revered Popes, Pope John Paul 11, surrendered the Catholic Church to Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, instead of Jesus himself. He said even the current Pope Francis has also done same.
He said Catholics are not Christians and do not worship the same Christ that he preaches in his church, at least the one spoken about in the Bible.
Okotie said he did not write the Bible but it was clear to him that those in the Catholic church were lost and were heading to hell fire.
"They don't believe in heaven. They believe in purgatory, the purgatory that they invented," Okotie said.
"That church, the Catholic church has been there for Satan and at the right time, they will declare for Satan,"Okotie said.
Okotie who has been married twice and divorced also twice said a beauty pageant will take place in his church next Sunday to select the most beautiful woman in his church.
He also said his yearly "Grace programme" where he makes donations to charity organisations will also take place next Sunday.
The once rock star turned celebrity preacher and politician has been controversial for years.
He once said it was the devil who told him for the first time that he was going to be a preacher.
He also said Nigeria's famous preacher Prophet T.B. Joshua is the son of the devil and his followers will go straight to hell.
In recent years, he has been saying that God has anointed him to be Nigeria's president. That prophecy has not come to pass in two presidential elections that he participated in.

WICKEDNESS! Caught on Camera: Woman Gradually Pushes Her Own Child into a River! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 11:00 AM PST

A 36 year old french mother named Fabienne Kabou, who felt her baby was 'incompatible' with her and boyfriend, strapped the little angel in a pram and calmly pushed her into a river. (pictured above right). Unbelievble!

From UK Daily Mail

A mother faces life imprisonment after confessing she drowned her 15-month-old daughter in the English Channel because the child was 'incompatible' with her love life.
CCTV footage has emerged of Fabienne Kabou, 36, from Senegal, pushing little Adelaide to the coast of Berck sur Mer on November 19. The next day, Adelaide was found dead, strapped in a pushchair submerged in the water, by a fisherman.
After ten days of searching nationwide, police used DNA from the pram to trace Ms Kabou to the home she shares with a 63-year-old man in Paris, where she was arrested.

Ms Kabou, a philosophy student, told police she took the drastic move after deciding motherhood was 'incompatible' with her love life with Adelaide's father.

The case has sparked outrage as hundreds took to the streets outside the court and on the coast in a White March - a French style of demonstrating against child cruelty.

Ms Kabou had told her boyfriend, a sculptor, that she had handed over the little girl to her grandmother who had agreed to look after her in Senegal, police claim.

On Saturday, Kabou was taken under Police guard to Boulogne sur Mer and questioned for four hours by an examining judge in a closed court session.

The judge placed her under investigation for murder. She was remanded in custody pending her trial.
Her lawyer Fabienne Roy-Nansion  who was present during the interrogation said that her client had made a full confession.

In an interview with Le Parisien newspaper the father of Adelaïde said that Fabienne Kabou had been 'a magnificent' mother to her child.Neighbours of the couple said they were at a loss to understand how the mother of the Adelaïde could have wanted to be rid of her.

Hundreds have taken to the streets in the past couple of days paying homage to the little girl in a White March.

The first White March took place on 1996 in Belgium as people demonstrated against Marc Dutroux, a serial killer and child molester.
Gerard Lopez, the president of the Institute of Victimology and legal expert at the Paris Court of Appeal, told 20minutes.fr: 'First and foremost, she wanted to save her marriage by killing her child.

'This would probably not have changed anything. 'She is not crazy. Her actions were premeditated.

'The investigation will now determine whether the woman was a victim of domestic or psychological violence from her partner. 'Some develop narcissistic and immature behavior at the birth of a child. 'By getting rid of the child, she may have been trying to meet the needs of her boyfriend who wanted more attention.'

Tiwa Savage’s husband, T-Billz Attacks Photo-Journalist..Snatched And Smashed his Camera!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 09:18 AM PST

Barely a week after their widely celebrated wedding, Tiwa Savage's husband, Tunji 'T-Billz' Balogun is in the news for attacking a photo-journalist.
For allegedly taking pictures against his will, the 323 Entertainment boss snatched the camera in front of several witnesses and crashed it in on the floor damaging the lens and other accessories in the camera. The incident, which happened last Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Façade Thai Restaurant, Bishop Aboyade Cole, Victoria Island, Lagos raised a few eyebrows as the photographer and some guests challenged and condemned T-Bill's actions, while querying the photographer for shooting without permission..
Reports from eyewitnesses say T-billz who was at the venue the birthday of musician Sound Sultan 'angrily attacked the photo-journalist, snatching his camera and breaking it for taking pictures of him'.
When contacted for his side of the story, the photo-journalist Victor Obot also known as Elejo denied directing the camera at T-billz. 'I wasn't even pointing the camera at him. The camera was directed at another guest who was sitting next to him, and then all of a sudden, he snatched my camera from me and smashed it.'
We're told other guests at the party strongly condemned the talent manager's actions.
One source told NET that former Kennis Music artiste, Azadus was infuriated by the incident and was forced to confront one of T-billz's boys who threatened to beat up Elejo.
Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone conversation Azadus said 'From what I gathered, T-Billz had warned Elejo (photo-journalist) not to take snapshots of him. Much later, I saw T-Billz grabbing the camera from him and then the camera fell on the floor in the process. Although I do not endorse T-Billz's action, but I think the Elejo should have respected his wish and not try to take snap shots of him'
When our correspondent reached out to T-Billz by telephone, he however denied destroying the camera. He said, 'It is not true. You can go ahead and cook up whatever story you like. It is not going to shake me in anyway', and then he angrily hung up.
Sound Sultan who was the celebrant however refused to confirm or deny the story. 'I do not wish to comment on this matter. Thank you', he said when NET tried to get his side of the story.
Another witness, Tomi, a PR consultant who works with Sound Sultan told us that she's been trying to reach out to Elejo in order to resolve the issue amicably. 'On the day of the incident, myself, Sound Sultan and Don T were trying to come in between, but they (T-Billz and Elejo) both wouldn't listen. I invited him to the party, so, just feel he should have reached out to us before going to the press. The next day I still called him and asked him to let it go, but he seems to be insistent on doing what he must'.
Multiple sources confirm that the photographer and T-Billz actually have a long-standing working relationship. 'Elejo has done several jobs for Tiwa and T-Billz. As a matter of fact, he goes to their house at 1004 Flats in Victoria Island to meet up with them sometimes, so he is not a stranger to T-Billz', said a source.

Elejo confirmed the once cordial relationship to our correspondent. 'For the jobs I did for him months ago, he is still owing me the sum of N150,000 and so I do not understand why he is being hostile to me.'
T-Billz has made no secret of his contempt for photographers in recent times. For some reason, at his recently held wedding to Tiwa Savage, photographers and recording devices were barred from the main hall.
A guest at the wedding even got his phone smashed by security for trying to take a snap shot of the groom.

Nollywood actor, Saidi Balogun has decried what he refers to as unconfirmed and untrue reports of his ex-wife, Fathia Balogun and martal status.
In a statement sent to Pakurumo.Com, the Nollywood Movie star maintained that he would be glad and appreciate his personal life can be kept out of the public eye.

Read statement below:

If a "news story" begins with the phrase "ACCORDING TO UNCONFIRMED REPORTS," and the affected stakeholders DID NOT confirm such reports, is the story really newsworthy?

PUNCH called me about an personal issue (about a previous marriage) that I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF. My response to them is the SAME RESPONSE I have said times without number to all unconfirmed, untrue and other rubbish stories of the like: I, SAIDI BALOGUN, AM FOCUSING ON MY WORK! I AM MARRIED TO MY WORK AND MY WORK IS ALL I KNOW! When I told this to PUNCH, they at least printed what I said. BUT, they used a completely different headline that has no basis in fact, which they EVEN ADMITTED TO THEMSELVES VIA THEIR FAILED EFFORT TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OR CONFIRMATION OF THE RUMOR.

One "second-hand blogger" not only copy and pasted the story, but added their own elaboration EQUALLY AS UNCONFIRMED AND UNROOTED IN FACT as the original article. This unfair, biased, and disgraceful style of the bloggers who think they are journalists has affected me in the past. I premiered You Or I on July 7th, 2013 and the same blogger said I was getting married that day. When July 7th came around, countless dignitaries including a Governor and foreign visitors showed the whole world I indeed did a premiere by honoring my invitation. GBAM!

Abeg o, as SAIDI BALOGUN, keep my personal life WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT out of the public eye and concentrate on the work I do that so many credible people respect me for. Thanks and God Bless all of my fans, I love you!

Unknown gunmen Mountain of Fire headquarters, Enugu!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 06:46 AM PST

The attack was carried out on Saturday night, and the two security men on duty at the church escaped death with serious injuries.
Members of the MFM disclosed to The PUNCH that the gunmen wielded machetes and other dangerous weapons.
Observation from our correspondent showed that they pulled down the entire concrete fence of the church and
burnt part of the altar.
It was gathered that the attack on the church lasted for several hours, from midnight on Saturday to the wee hours
of Sunday.
The church recently relocated to the new headquarters at Emeka Ibila Street, off Agbani road, Enugu. This was in October 2013, after the Enugu State Government demolished the old regional headquarters at Zik Avenue.
Regional Overseer, MFM South-East 1, Pastor Rotimi Olugbule, said he got a call early Sunday morning that armed men broke into the church overnight.
"They were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons. They were also armed with 25 litres jerry can of fuel. And they met with our security men and others who were there.
"They demanded for their phones and switched them off. They broke a chair on the head of one of them and he was bleeding profusely. They also used the iron rods they came with to hit him severally on the neck," said Pastor Olugbule.

Governor Oshiomhole Gives the widow He Asked to 'go and die' N2m + Employment!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 06:23 AM PST

Days after apologizing to the widow he told to 'go and die' Gov Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has offered employment to the woman, now identified as Mrs Joy Ifije.

Aside from the job offer, Oshiomhole also gave the woman  N2million grant for her to get a shop and trade. The governor met with Mrs Ifije yesterday Sunday Dec. 1st at the Government House and offered her the job which is to join the State's War Against Indiscipline in the campaign against street trading and to keep the state clean.
"When you put your things on the road a vehicle can run into you and they have killed some people like that and that was why I said if you are a widow do you want more people to be widowed? But when I said go and die, that one was said in a fit of anger. And I am really sorry"
"I want you to join us. We would employ you and pay you salary. You would help us to campaign to other women not to trade on road sides. We should not use poverty as a yardstick.
The Governor then gave the woman a cash gift of N2 million
"In addition to working with the War Against Indiscipline, I am also giving you the sum of two million naira so that you can hire a shop, trade inside the shop and not roadside and I pray that God will bless your decision on how you utilize the money. This money is not for you to share or distribute but to help you as a working capital".

Etisalat Responds To Comedian Julius Agwu’s N100Million Lawsuit Threat!!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 05:09 AM PST

Etisalat Nigeria, has reacted to Julius Agwu's 7day ultimatum to the company that it should compensate him with the whooping sum of N100 million or risk legal action over "alleged unlawful and unjustified blocking and/or swapping" of his Etisalat GSM phone number 08189555555.
Julius Agwu had, through his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, demanded N100m after his business line was blocked by Etisalat.
Julius said in a bid to solve his problem, he had visited Etisalat's Abuja office at Hilton to report the matter, and that He was attended to by one Miss Joan, who informed him that somebody had swapped his line. Julius successfully answered the security questions put to him, his line was restored with no airtime balance.

He was shocked when the line was blocked later on again. And even after his several meetings with Etisalat, they still failed to unblock his line the second time, causing him to lose some business opportunities.
Etisalat's Public Relations Manager, Chineze Amanfo, while giving a response to the allegation through an email sent to PMNews, stated that contrary to the reportage of the issue on the blogs and news sites, a SIM swap was performed on the said line after the requester provided the company's customer care executives with necessary SIM replacement information, in accordance with laid down NCC regulations and process for SIM swap.
She added that the SIM replacement information includes security and personal requirements to the owner, which the requester provided before the swap was effected.
Subsequently, upon a report made at our office by Mr. Agwu that he is the owner of the line and did not authorize anyone to swap it, our customer care executives promptly restored the line as well as the airtime lost during the swap process.
Etisalat Nigeria is currently carrying out an internal investigation into the SIM swap incident and will refer the matter to the appropriate agencies for further investigation as may be necessary.
We wish to assure the general public that Etisalat Nigeria is committed to the protection of the rights of its subscribers and to continue to provide value adding services to its customers. We will spare no effort to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged unauthorized SIM swap while encouraging our customers and the general public to protect their personal information at all times," she stated

ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: 'Don’t send students back to campuses'- ASUU begs Parents!

Posted: 02 Dec 2013 04:23 AM PST

The Presidency, on its part accused ASUU leaders of treachery and warned the university lecturers not to dare the resolve of government to carry out its threat to sack them if they failed to resume.
The Senate President, David Mark has also cautioned the Federal Government over the threat to sack the striking lecturers just as the All Progressives Congress (APC) slammed the government for issuing the threat.

Supervising Minister for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike last Thursday gave the lecturers a seven-day ultimatum to resume from their six-month strike or risk being sacked. President Goodluck Jonathan, however, clarified, weekend, in Bayelsa that the Federal Government did not give the ultimatum, stating that it was given by the Committee of Vice Chancellors.
However, the Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, Professor Mike Faborede denied the claim that his committee gave the ultimatum. He passed the buck to the Committee of Pro-Chancellors.
ASUU meantime said no academic activities would resume until the Federal Government perfects and implements resolutions reached with the union.
The order given by the Federal Government that universities across the country should resume seems not to have any impact in the University of Ibadan.
A visit to the campus, yesterday, showed that the order had been ignored by students as they did not turn up for resumption.
asuu-fg
FORTY eight hours to the deadline given by the Federal Government to striking university lecturers to resume classes or be sacked, the union has remained adamant, advising parents not to risk the lives of their children by sending them to the campuses.
A student, Bolade who did not want his surname in print said the order was disregarded because they knew the approach of the Federal Government would only aggravate the face-off.
All the halls of residence — Kuti Hall, Sultan Bello, Independence, Nnamdi Azikwe, Queen Elizabeth and Idia Halls in the institution were still deserted. Though, the halls were opened, only some non academic staff and few students who did not leave the campus at all were seen.
Describing the threat by Federal Government as height of insensitivity, the academic union asked its members not to sign any register but to remain calm and stay resolute.
On denial by President Goodluck Jonathan that he never issued any ultimatum to the union, the National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge and University of Ibadan chapter of the Union, ASUU said it was laughable.
Fagge said: "Comrades, can you see the unfolding drama? Now, Jonathan says they didn't give ultimatum; that the Vice Chancellors did and Wike became their trumpet; But NUC's ultimatum is by Federal Government to us to resume or get sacked. And Wike's press address says "FG has directed, "NOT"VCs have directed"Be calm, stay resolute. By God, we are on course"
Also speaking in the same vein, UI ASUU chairman, Dr. Segun Ajiboye asked parents not to risk the precious lives of "our students by releasing them, saying no lecturer will teach them.
"Don't risk the lives of your children, keep your children at home because ASUU will not teach. Soldiers and the police deployed by the Federal Government will not teach.  Mr Wike can come and teach in university. It is a huge joke to sack professors. Our strike must not be in vain. Our students must see the results. It is funny; we thought we are in a democracy. I assure Nigerians that we know what the law says about the strike. Our job is statute backed. We are not threatened. We do not trust the government. The record of the government is clear. This government is dishonouring agreements. Our members are resolved to pursue this to a logical conclusion"
UI ASUU also sent a text message to its staff reads: "Dear members, stay calm and remain resolute. There is nothing wrong in asking govt to do what it says it will do immediately. ASUU is not making any new demands as the Minister is propagating. Government is only repeating a 'one act play' scripted by the IBB dictatorship in early 90s. It didn't work then, and, it won't work now.!all branches are intact. We cannot be intimidated!!united we bargain, divided we beg!!!Aluta Continua."

Don't dare Govt, Presidency warns

Meanwhile, the Presidency yesterday accused the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU of treachery, just as it warned the university lecturers not to dare the resolve of government to carry out its threat to sack them if they failed to resume.
According to the Presidency,  ASUU leaders have gone contrary to the desire of majority of their chapters who have voted and agreed to end the strike because of the personal intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan, even as it boasted that it was joking with the threat of sacking the lecturers.
Addressing Journalists yesterday in Abuja, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe said  that ASUU leadership came into negotiation with a mindset that  betrayed what he termed, lack of understanding that the nation and the government were a continuum.
Asked whether the Federal Government can fill the vacancies if the lecturers were indeed sacked, he retorted: "Do you think the government is joking?"
Okupe who noted that  the 13-hour meeting Jonathan held with ASUU ended with a definite agreement and resolutions acceptable to the ASUU leadership, however stressed  that the leadership of ASUU was expected to consult with its members nationwide and report back to government within one week.

"The ASUU leadership rather than take its responsibility seriously, wasted seven days before scheduling a meeting. When the meeting eventually held the leadership decided to thwart and undemocratically override the expressed will of majority of its chapters to call off the strike. This action is contrary to established practice and procedure of any democratic labour institution, which ASUU is expected to be."
The Secretary-Generl of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors in a text message to Vanguard, last night, said: "The Committee of Pro-Chancellors (CPC), issued the ultimatum, not the Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC)."

Mark cautions FG over threat

Senate President, David Mark has also cautioned the federal government on the use of threat to solve the lingering crisis with ASUU.
The Senate President for the umpteenth time also pleaded with ASUU to reconsider their position and return to classes to salvage the already battered education sector from further deterioration.
Senator Mark who advised the Federal Government not to use the sledgehammer on ASUU on account of the five months strike when he commissioned a lecture theatre for the School of management sciences at the Kano state polytechnic donated by Senator Kabiru Gaya, pleaded with the teachers to resume classes while negations continue.
He said, "We have reached a situation where hardline positions would worsen the situation. My plea to ASUU is to resume classes while negotiation continues. The strike has done enough damage to our universities. They have also made their point and I think we should reason together and end this matter.
"Nobody, including the university teachers themselves can be said to be enjoying this crisis. It is a huge cost on government, parents, the management, staff and students of the universities.

In a Recent Interview, Sanyeri Disclosed that the upcoming Wedding is to appreciate the special woman in his life, Awawu Who stood By him when he was poor to his fame land.
As Part Of his plan to appreciate His wife, the actor has promised to take her on Honeymoon in Germany.

In His to his words;
"When i meet my wife back then, i didn't have the financial muscle to have a proper wedding, but i thank GOD that I'm now capable to do the needful, and it's also a way of appreciating my wife of staying with me even when i had nothing.
You know, not a lot of women can take risks. Some women believe that when they want to get married, they should settle with someone who is already Comfortable, but when my wife met me, even i myself didn't know where i was heading to in terms of my future. To feed myself alone was even difficult; talk more of an extra mouth.

She just took that risk, and i thank GOD that it has ended well for her, Since it has turned out like this I have to show her my appreciation, and also to let people know that i'm a good person. I just pray to God to make it peaceful, and for everybody that will be attending, Journey mercies as they travel fro and back from the ceremony. I also dont want fights or rancour of any kind. After the wedding, I've also promised my wife we'll be having our honeymoon In Germany!"
