Again, the talented actress, Ms. Genevieve was among the lucky Nollywood practitioners who were honored on Wednesday November 27, 2013 at Grand Awards of Nollywood @20, a situation that has been questioned by many people from Omotola's camp. According to them, Genevieve is not supposed to be honored for her contributions in movie industry without Omotola's name appearing on the same list. "Omotola's name was omitted." They say. Simply because Omotola's name was not in the list, she was nowhere near the venue of this grand event, as an invitation must have been sent to her weeks before yesterday. There are strong speculations that Omotola's name was intentionally omitted from the event to bring Genevieve Nnaji back. "The two ladies are putting guild heads into serious problems, because if you are honoring one of them, the other will want same or there will be issues. TRAGIC! Nigerian Man killed by a Lorry after storming out of car with his wife! Posted: 28 Nov 2013 02:00 PM PST A Nigerian man was killed on a motorway after getting out of a car on the way to the airport after a fight with his wife over their credit card. According To Reports From DailyMail.. Nahinmu Nicholas had stormed out of the Ford Focus with his suitcases, saying he was going to hitch-hike to Heathrow, but was knocked down by a lorry in the morning darkness. His wife had pulled over on what they both thought was the hard shoulder of the M25, not realising that it was a live lane because of roadworks. A coroner was told that lorry driver Martin Hook was unable to avoid Mr Nicholas as he suddenly caught sight of him. His 13-tonne bread lorry also struck the couple's car in the accident just six minutes after they had stopped on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 at junction 6 for Godstone,  Surrey, at around 4.30am on April 10. Florence Olokun-Ola told the inquest in Woking, Surrey, that her husband was going to Nigeria alone for 12 days and that the fight started because she wanted their bank card while he was away. 'The argument became very aggressive and his voice changed,' she added. Mrs Olokun-Ola, who had earlier told how financial problems had caused tension in their relationship, said she no longer felt comfortable driving and pulled over to what she thought was the hard shoulder. She added: 'He took off his seat belt. As soon as the car stopped he took the keys and opened the boot and took out his luggage. He put it by the crash barrier.' In an attempt to get her husband back in the car Mrs Olokun-Ola drove forward a bit, but he started to walk back down the carriageway  trying to thumb a lift. Then she felt the force of the  collision as the lorry struck the rear of her car.'I got out the car and at first I was angry because he didn't come  running over to see if I was okay,' she said. She then discovered her  husband's body and ran back to the car to dial 999.Mr Hook said he was travelling through the roadworks at 50mph. 'The next thing I knew was there was a dark shadow in front of me,' he added. 'I turned straight away to the centre of the carriageway.'A post-mortem examination  concluded that Mr Nicholas died as a result of severe head injuries. Accident reconstruction officer PC Dominic Gibson said that the stretch of the M25 where the accident  happened was unlit. He said there were signs warning that the hard shoulder was now a live lane. Assistant Surrey Coroner Michael Burgess recorded a verdict that Mr Nicholas, of Dartford, Kent, died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 08:52 AM PST Kidnappers have seized the 83-year-old father of a former Super Eagles player, Chikelue Iloenyosi, in Njikoka Local Government, Anambra State. PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, James Iloenyosi, was on his way back from the church on Monday when he was abducted by the assailants. A family source said the kidnappers blocked Chikelue father's car and then put him into another car before speeding off. He said, "On Monday, Pa Iloenyosi (James) was driving home from morning Mass when some men in a Toyota Camry blocked his Peugeot 504 and pulled him out of his vehicle. They subsequently put him inside their own vehicle and sped off. "After organising a search party without success, we called his son on the telephone to inform him of the development. "The following day, the kidnappers called us with the victim's telephone and demanded N50m ransom. Family members have been trying to negotiate with them but they have refused to collect anything less." When our correspondent contacted Chikelue on the telephone, he confirmed the development. He said, "I received a telephone call from the village that my father had been kidnapped. Later we were able to recover his vehicle, but my father's telephone was switched off for the rest of the day. It was the following day that the kidnappers called with their demand." He said the family was still meeting to plan the next cause of action, while negotiation was ongoing with the kidnappers. The former Nigerian defender said the incident was more painful as his father's twin brother had only recently died. "We have been begging these kidnappers but they have been threatening to kill my father if we did not pay. That money is just too much," he said.

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 07:52 AM PST Described as 'the world's most valuable book', this Bay Psalm Book, which is the first book ever printed in what is now the United States, sold at Sotheby's for just under $14.2 million A tiny book of psalms from 1640, believed to be the first book printed in what's now the United States, sold for just under $14.2 million on Tuesday, setting an auction record for a printed book. The Bay Psalm Book, which was auctioned at Sotheby's in Manhattan, had a pre-sale estimate of $15 million to $30 million. A copy of John James Audubon's 'Birds of America' was the previous record-holder, selling for $11.5 million at Sotheby's in 2010. Only 11 copies of the Bay Psalm Book survive in varying degrees of completeness. The book sold at Sotheby's was one of two owned by Boston's Old South Church, which voted to sell it to increase its grants and ministries. With a pre-sale between $15 to $30 million, the book was published in Cambridge, Mass., by the Puritan leaders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1640 Samuel Adams was a member and Benjamin Franklin was baptized at the church, which was established in 1669. 'This is enormous for us,' said the Rev. Nancy Taylor, senior minister of the church. 'It is life-changing for the ministries we can do.' The book was bought over the phone by American businessman and philanthropist David Rubenstein, who plans to lend it to libraries around the country. The sale price included the buyer's premium. In April, Taylor called the book 'spectacular' and said it is 'arguably one of the most important books in this nation's history'.   The church owned five copies of the 6-inch-by-5-inch book. One is now at the Library of Congress, one is at Yale University and one is at Brown University. The book was published in Cambridge, Mass., by the Puritan leaders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony just 20 years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. It was supposed to be a faithful translation into English of the original Hebrew psalms - puritans believed selected paraphrases would compromise their salvation. The 1,700 copies were printed on a press shipped from London.  'Arguably one of the most important books in this nation's history', the book was bought over the phone by American businessman and philanthropist David Rubenstein, who plans to lend it to libraries around the country. A yellowed title page, adorned with decorative flourishes, reads: 'The Whole Booke of Psalmes, Faithfully Translated into English Metre.' At the bottom, it says: 'Imprinted 1640.' Historians believe an almanac may have come off the press before the Bay Psalm Book. But the chief of rare books and special collections at the Library of Congress, Mark Dimunation, has said the almanac was more of a pamphlet or a broadsheet than a book. No copy of the almanac exists today. Dimunation noted that in the Americas, in general, books were printed in what is now Mexico as early as 1539. 'American poetry, American spirituality and the printed page all kind of combine and find themselves located in a single volume,' Dimunation said of the Bay Psalm Book. The last time a copy came on the auction block, in 1947, it sold for a record auction price of $151,000, surpassing auction prices for the Gutenberg Bible, Shakespeare's First Folio and 'Birds of America.'. The auction record for any book goes to the Leonardo da Vinci Codex Hammer, a personal notebook of scientific writings and diagrams. The APC says the protest to INEC headquarters is to register its disapproval of the Commission's string of failures in conducting recent elections, including the 'inconclusive' Anambra Governorship poll. They are demanding the cancellation of Anambra gubernatorial poll.  The protesters were stopped by a detachment heavily armed policemen who prevented them from reaching the INEC offices. Protesters include former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, former military head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, and Chief Bisi Akande.

So, on Wednesday, a large bulldozer smashed the confiscated 240,000 beer bottles to shouts of  "Allahu Ahkbar" (Allah is great) from supporters outside the Hisbah headquarters in Kano.Kegs containing more than 8,000 litres of a local alcoholic brew called burukutu and 320,000 cigarettes were also destroyed. But Beyonce failed to impress the man known as Egypt's Indiana Jones when she visited the country in 2009. Zahi Hawass, Egypt's former head of antiquities, claims he banned the singer from visiting the Pyramids after her 'stupid and rude' behaviour. The star visited Egypt back in 2009 as part of her I Am... Tour, where she toured the pyramids with Hawass. But according to the Huffington Post, the controversial archaeologist bad-mouthed the star to local reporters back then, allegedly calling her a 'stupid person' who 'doesn't understand a thing'. Now, in a new interview, Hawass, 66, claims the Love On Top singer arrived late for her tour of the ancient site. Gatekeeper: Hawass is Egypt's former antiquities minister and is credited with improving the management of the historic sites 'Most people I take on tours are very nice and we become friends. But this lady...,' the former minister of state antiquities told The Independent. 'She said she would come at 3pm but she came late. I said "You have to say I'm sorry I'm late". ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: F.G Gives ASUU 1 Week ultimatum to Call Off strike!! Posted: 28 Nov 2013 03:47 AM PST During a press briefing in Abuja this morning, the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike told journalist that the Federal Government has given the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) one week ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike. Or else what? ASUU execs and President Jonathan were supposed to meet this week but the meeting is yet to hold. The ASUU strike began July 1, almost 5 months later, no resolution in sight. Sad!
