| Nollywood Marketers ban Mercy Johnson for being too expensive!! Posted: 02 Nov 2013 06:03 AM PDT  Nollwood marketers have banned actress Mercy Johnson Okojie for being too expensive. Doesn't make sense does it? If someone's fees is too high, the sensible thing to do would be to boycott them and use less expensive actresses. Leave her to those who can afford her na, abi? Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke charge between N700k to N1.2million. For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has already signed up to do quite a number of movies. She returned on Thursday from a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday. She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will be on another movie set...so she's basically booked till the end of the year. The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban won't take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie marketers association will be placing a ban on actors. They did this a few years ago when quite a number of Nollywood actors including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, RMD, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke and others were blacklisted. LIB  | ||||||||||||
| Posted: 02 Nov 2013 05:56 AM PDT  Irene Myangoh, a personal assistant at a law firm in Nairobi, Kenya, paid a salon for the hair piece which doctors believe may have come from a corpse. After two weeks, she started suffering from severe headaches which painkillers did little to ease. When blood tests and a brain scan also came back negative, she went back to her doctor who examined her scalp and reportedly found maggots eating into her skull. The doctor said the maggots had likely hatched from eggs contained in the hair which she believed came from a dead body, it was reported by African internet TV station iReportersTV. No further details were given about the maggots and the doctor could not be reached for comment by the station. The manager of the salon said she had fitted ten weaves from the package where Miss Myangoh's came from, adding that she had sold 150 pieces from the entire batch in less than two months. The woman, who did not want to be named, said: 'I am shocked to hear this because this is the first time such a thing is happening to my clients. 'I will get more information from my supplier because we import these weaves from the UK, USA and India.' She said the supplier may have sent her rejects from a factory and promised to compensate Miss Myangoh, who had to shave her hair and take antibiotics for two weeks after her ordeal. Dr CK Musau, a surgeon at Nairobi hospital, told iReportersTV that he had dealt with ten similar cases in the last six months. He added: 'It is unfortunate how the West has influenced Kenyan youth, especially ladies. 'They should stick to their natural African beauty as opposed to trying to ape what they see.  | ||||||||||||
| ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: Nigerian Universities To Open Next Week With Or Without ASUU's Approval!! Posted: 02 Nov 2013 05:35 AM PDT  In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium. An official of the Vice President's office who pleaded anonymity said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week. The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level. It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point and he will at next Monday's meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration's last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike. A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan. According to report, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present. | Wife Sentenced To 54 Years Imprisonment For Making Child-P*rn With Husband! Posted: 02 Nov 2013 05:49 AM PDT  An Oviedo, Fla., woman has been sentenced to 54 years in prison for making child pornography with her husband and two children. According to the Orlando Sentinel, prosecutors claimed Sarah Adleta and her husband, Jonathan Adleta, "made having sex with their two children a part of their parenting plan," and continued the abuse even after they divorced. The mother of two also confessed to performing sex acts on her 4-year-old girl on camera while another man, Aaron Dixon, watched via Skype from North Carolina, according to the FBI. Sarah Adleta pleaded guilty to two child-sex related charges in May and was a witness against her ex-husband in his trial, the Orlando Sentinel reported. She testified that Jonathan Adleta, a former Marine who had served in Afghanistan, made "daddy-daughter sex" a condition of their getting married. According to the New York Daily News, Adleta told jurors that she was willing to do anything to stay with him. "Sarah, justice is needed," Lippy said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton Jr. sentenced to Adleta to 27 years per count, to be served consecutively rather than concurrently. The couple was arrested in March after the FBI learned that the 28-year-old woman had sent nude, sexually explicit photos of herself and a child to Dixon. Adleta told investigators that she had been sending the images to Dixon for about a year before her arrest. Investigators found that the couple's daughter, who was 4 at the time of the arrest, had the developmental level of an 18-month old, was not toilet-trained, and displayed "sexualized" behaviors. A neighbors told ClickOrlando that Sarah Adleta had offered to babysit her children in the past, but that something about that seemed wrong to her. "I feel so good I went with my gut and never let her watch my kids," Cheney Mills told the station after the Adletas were arrested in March. | HURRAY!! FG dissolves PHCN, pays workers N360bn!! Posted: 02 Nov 2013 05:12 AM PDT  The Federal Government on Friday officially dissolved the Power Holding Company of Nigeria after it handed over the 14 successor companies created from the unbundling of PHCN to their respective new owners across the country. Speaking at the official physical handover ceremony of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to its new owner, Kann Utility Consortium Nigeria Limited, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, stated that the government had paid N360bn to workers of the defunct PHCN. He explained that there might be some teething issues such as an increase in electricity tariff as soon as the new power owners commenced operations in earnest, but stressed that the problems would abate with time. He said, "Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, PHCN has essentially cease to exist. We now have (electricity) distribution, generating and transmission companies. So it is no longer PHCN. "For instance, this one is Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and is owned by Kann Consortium. So they are no longer PHCN and it is no longer business as usual, but business unusual because people are expected to deliver." Nebo said the Federal Government and the two key workers' union leaders in the sector reached an amicable agreement on Thursday to peacefully handover the power firms to their new owners. The unions include the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, and the National Union of Electricity Employees. The minister said, "Agreements have been reached. Please never in the history of this country has a government kept its word in issues like this as has been demonstrated by the present administration. "Already, N360bn has been paid out. The remaining N30bn or so is in the pipeline and all the issues of certification, biometric capture and making sure that clearance is done are being completed. Government is on it and the date has been fixed for some as November 15, while November 30 is for others. I have given my word and I am saying that no worker will be short-changed."
