More than 30 Nigerian celebrities from Nollywood, sports and the entertainment industry will soon undertake a nationwide tour to preach peace and unity across the country. They said this would be part of their collective effort at spreading the message of peace in the minds of Nigerians, especially the youths on the need to leave in peace. The group, operating under the aegis of Voice of Change Foundation of Nigeria (VCFN), an NGO, the celebrities comprise people like Emeka Ike, Genevieve Nnaji, Coach Stephen Keshi, Celestine Babayaro and Omotola Ekehinde. A statement issued on Sunday in Abuja and signed by the group National Public Relations Officer, Mr Steph Nora-Okere, said that this became necessary due to the present challenges and threat to peaceful coexistence. The statement said that the programme, which would commence before the end of the year would cover the six geopolitical zones, preaching the message of peace and the need to leave together. "We decided to come together to preach the gospel of peace as it has become more necessary now than ever before. "Every great country has passed through its moment of political, economic and religious tensions and had survived. "The troubles our Nigeria is going through now with ethnic violence, militancy, the unrest in the North and the threat of disintegration, requires that things be quickly put in their right perspective. "As celebrities and stakeholders, we have a lot to contribute to the peace building effort of government at all levels. "This movement is not aligned to any party or individuals but we are committed to bringing our talents and leverage to help the country through this difficult moment.'' The statement said that the group would deploy the abundance of talents in the areas of sports and the entertainment industry for the good of the country. Vanguard  | ||

| Gunmen/Ritualist storms hospital at midnight, demand new born babies!! Posted: 18 Nov 2013 08:06 AM PST  Five gunmen, suspected to be ritualists on Sunday invaded the government hospital in Ado-Ekiti, demanding for new born babies. They allegedly arrived at the hospital at about 1:00 a.m. demanding for a day old babies, and beating up staff who could not give satisfactory answer. A senior health officer said the invaders, who were fully armed, were rhetorically demanding for the whereabouts of a particular baby, said to have been delivered earlier in the day. "They got more annoyed when they were told that no baby was available in the hospital as at the time they came, it angered then the more and they went berserk,'' the officer said. This angered the men as they beat up the hospital staff and injured some of them. When contacted, the Chairman of Ado Local Government, Mr Tope Olanipekun confirmed the incident, saying "this is a new twist to crime in the area''.  | ||
| Nigerian Billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim arrested over N6.8b tax fraud! Posted: 18 Nov 2013 07:28 AM PST  Saharareporters just learned that the Special Enforcement Unit of Federal Inland Revenue Service has arrested shady businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, over a tax fraud that runs into N6.8 billion. Sources within the unit told Saharareporters that Mr. Ibrahim was picked up today and is currently under detention at the offices of the agency. According to one source, "We are investigating a case where Chief Ibrahim, defrauded the federal government to the tune of N6.8 billion. He is in our custody, we take intend to take a statement from the suspect under caution", he added. One of our sources said Mr. Mr. Ibrahim have been evading agents of the unit for some time but disclosed that the eventually caught up with him in his hotel room in NICON Luxury Hotel where he was arrested this afternoon in Abuja. Mr. Ibrahim emerged into national prominence under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he was frequently described as an insurance magnate after a questionable sale of the state owned NICON insurance company to Mr. Ibrahim. He subsequently became a player in the media industry through the controversial purchase of Newswatch magazine and also as a proprietor of Air Nigeria. An airline closed down last year due to safety concerns and Ibrahim's inability to meet financial obligations to staff, lessors and maintenance engineers and aircraft parts suppliers. After Mr. Ibrahim's purchase of Newswatch, the original directors, including Ray Ekpu, accused Mr. Ibrahim of hijacking Newswatch without meeting the terms of acquisition as a majority stakeholder. His troubles in aviation sector came to light when one of his top level employee, John Nnorom turned into a whistleblower and disclosed to Saharareporters of the airline's extensive violation of maintenance standards and financial fraud. Also, Aersale an aircraft lease company sued him in New York court seeking a huge payment representing Air Nigeria unpaid obligations under the term of the lease. Mr.Ibrahim is known to have extensive political connection with former President Obasanjo as well top members of the Goodluck Jonathan regime.  | ||

| ASUU strike UPDATE: UNBELIEVABLE!! NSCDC begins 7-day fasting AND prayers!! Posted: 18 Nov 2013 05:33 AM PST  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday began seven days fasting and prayer for an end to the lingering Academic Staff of Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) strike. This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the corps, Mr Emmanuel Okeh. The statement said that Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant General of the corps, directed the officers and personnel of the corps nationwide, to embark on the exercise. It said the corps embarked on the exercise to seek God's intervention following the deadlock in the talks between the Federal Government and the striking university teachers aimed at resolving the issue. "Worried by the ongoing strike embarked upon by the ASUU, which has resulted in the shutdown of universities since July this year, NSCDC Commandant General has organised a special prayer for the nation. " The CG has declared seven days fasting and prayers nationwide to seek an ultimate solution to the problem,'' it said. The statement said the move was borne out of the desire by Nigerians to see an end to the strike. It quoted Abolurin, as noting that the inability of stakeholders to come to an agreement in resolving the four months old strike was an indication that divine intervention was the only solution to the problem. "While lauding the effort of the government and its unwavering commitment to end the impasse, Abolurin said the nation should not underestimate the power of prayers at critical moments. "We should not be ignorant of the devices of the devil whose mission is to steal, kill and destroy; but through prayer and fasting, the glory of this nation shall be sustained and the much needed success achieved,'' the statement said. It said that stakeholders, including parents, guardians, government officials, the striking teachers, students, religious leaders and opinion leaders should pray for an end to the problem. The statement said that the continuous stay of students at home had made them vulnerable to negative vices which "portend danger to the future leaders''. It also appealed to the National Union of Teacher (NUT) to rescind its decision to embark on a sympathy strike, saying that this would further plunge the education sector into an unnecessary and avoidable catastrophe. Posted: 18 Nov 2013 05:02 AM PST  Area boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the dead pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were killed. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped.  The people protesting are insisting they won't leave the area until Governor Fashola shows up. They are blaming the gruesome accident on the lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area. The two express lanes have been blocked by the angry protesters which has caused heavy traffic in the area. OLX is a trading online store which serves as an intermediate market for buyers and sellers of goods and all kinds of commodity. One would never have suspected that a mother after suffering the pains of child birth will dare to turn the online trading site into a baby selling factory. OLX classified website is the largest consumer trading website in the world with a presence in some 107 countries. The ad was live on the site for 12 hours before It was pulled for breaching the it's terms and conditions. God help us all!!  | ||
| Posted: 18 Nov 2013 04:00 AM PST  These photos yesterday sparked rumours that jude Okoye missed his brother, Peter Okoye's traditional wedding but information reaching me actually says the photos were taken at Don jazzy's Mavin studio on Saturday where they are currently working on a new joint!  I just spoke with P-Square's publicist and he confirmed that Jude Okoye was not at Peter and Lola's wedding yesterday. I asked why he didn't attend and he said Jude and some members of P-Square's band were stuck in Ghana after their Saturday night show. He said Peter and Paul were able to make the trip back on Sunday morning but not Jude. That's the official reason. Don't know if I believe it...but hopefully there's good reason for his missing his brother's wedding. And like I said yesterday, Paul was at the wedding! He just didn't participate in many pic taking.  | ||
