Fifty three Nigerians were detained today after a mob of about 200 of them blocked a National Highway over the death of a fellow national, prompting the Goa government to announce a major crack-down on foreign nationals living in the state without proper documents.

The mob blocked the Mapusa-Panaji Highway running through Porvorim village this afternoon after allegedly ransacking the police hearse van that was carrying the body of a Nigerian, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds at Parra village in Mapusa near here late last night, police said.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters that he had asked the police department to comb the entire state and locate Nigerians and other foreign nationals staying without visa and other documentation.

Parrikar said that the murder was fall-out of a gang rivalry in the drug trade.

"We will also crack down on those involved in the drug trade extensively now. The action would be initiated in the next seven days and will continue in future," Parrikar said.

He also said that the establishments including clubs, pubs and restaurants which entertain foreign nationals without proper documents would face criminal cases.

Admitting that there was a failu

re of police informer network resulting in lower detection of drug cases, the Chief Minister said, "Virtually for five years, when Congress government was in power, the network had gone defunct."

Of the 53 Nigerians who were detained today, those involved in the ruckus would be arrested and the documents of others would be verified, Parrikar said.

Parrikar conceded that a few locals brutally beat up two Nigerians protesting on the road, who were admitted to the district hospital in Mapusa. "Locals who assaulted the Nigerians would also be booked," he said.

A 40-year old widow who simply identified herself as Mujidat was caught on Wednesday with a dead day old baby she hid inside a sack around her residence at 2, Reverend Alimi Street, NEPA Phase I, Ijagemo in Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS learnt that a member of the community, High Chief Babatunde Balogun caught the mother of seven when she was trying to dispose the baby at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

When questioned on the content of the sack, she claimed she was coming from the market where she bought some household items.
However, on a closer look, Balogun discovered that the sack contained a dead day old baby the woman allegedly had just delivered.
He then called the attention of the other residents. Neighbours told P.M.NEWS that after Mujidat's husband known as Baba Mushin died about three years ago, they have seen men visiting her residence, the house built by her late husband.
When asked if she planned to throw away the baby because of an alleged paternity mess, she denied, claiming that a welder turned block maker near her residence was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in the birth of the dead baby she was caught with. .
She claimed she took delivery of the baby by herself because she found it easy and therefore did not go to any hospital or sought anybody's help.
At about 9 p.m yesterday when P.M.NEWS visited the area, residents of the area were still milling around the residence of the woman.
Officials of the Community Development Association, CDA, in the area later accompanied the woman and her sack of baby to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division where the matter was reported. At the time of this report, the woman was still being interrogated.

Popular Nollywood actor Segun Arinze is grieving,, as in the evening of October 31, 2013, Thursday, he has received the news of the sudden passage of his father-in-law, Barrister E.T Nsofor.

Late Nsofor died at 73. He used to be an Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, under the administration of the late Col. Ikwechi Amadi, a one time military governor of Imo State.

Segun Arinze was flustered by the death of his relative, said that it was untimely, as the late father-in-law was getting well from illness

"I wasn't expecting it at all, moreso he was recovering well from his illness.

"So sad. He would have been 74 on the 30th of November. He was a good father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed. May his soul rest in peace," the actor said.

Barrister E.T Nsofor was survived by many children including the ace actor's wife, Julie Segun Arinze, Nee Nsofor.

Burial arrangements will be announced by the family.

Davido is one of the artiste who sure knows how to blow his own trumpet. But, who won't, when one has certain things going on well for oneself or when 'the lines have fallen unto pleasant places' as the Psalmist says. A rich father, a successful career which is barely three years old, a multi-million naira endorsement deal, sold-out concerts, a string of hits, a personal home, an enviable fleet of cars and a growing fan base – Davido boast all at the moment.

At 20, he has no doubt garnered what has taken many artistes years to achieve, that is, if God and mother-luck shines generously on them.

Ever since he drew the attention of millions of music fans to himself when he introduced himself as 'Omo baba olowo' in his 2011 hit song titled 'Dami duro', there has been no looking back for the singer, who says he is currently a part time student at Babcock University, Ilishan Remo.

"Everything is just God because I just wanted to do music, be happy and comfortable but He just turned my fortunes around and I thank Him for that," he quips.

For some established artistes, fame and wealth can be a tad difficult to manage. But for Davido, it's been a tough call especially since he has achieved both at a young age.

"Even though I have fame, money and other things working for me, I didn't expect to be this big. I find it sometimes overwhelming that I am immediately recognised wherever I go and it is such a great feeling, that sometimes I feel like the president. I miss partying at the club with my friends, but at the same time I am happy because this is what I have always wanted to do," he says.

No stranger to controversies and online scandals, Davido, admits that despite being a celebrity, he isn't immune to general life issues.

"No doubt I have made some mistakes and I am not perfect. You know, sometimes I get overwhelmed or annoyed. I am a human being too, people have to understand that before they are quick to judge my actions," he admits.

The Nigerian music scene has become a lot more competitive with various artistes emerging and others bowing out of the scene after a hit. Davido considers himself an authority in his own right. His reason? "I'm not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can't be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that's all that matters."

Not one to throw in the towel so soon, the 20-year old singer appears to have his future plans all sorted out, already. "I have plans to go into oil and gas business with my elder brother next year. I want to do music for 10 years. By that time, I will be 30, and free to rest. Some people are just starting out at 30 but I am already a success and threat at 20. Fame at a young age is a plus because I still have like 10 years to ball while some people are just starting at 27 and 30."

So, is Wizkid not a threat or music rival? To this, he says, "Not at all. The rumour is cool. But I see nobody as competition or threat. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio."

It is almost impossible to have a chat with Davido and not ask about how much influence his father has had on his career. After all, he says it for all who care to listen that he is a rich kid.

In an unapologetic tone, he says, "Yes my father is rich, but the truth is some people only knew who he was after I released my song, 'Omo Baba Olowo'. I want people to know that the song was not a hit because of my father but because it was dope. I didn't sing 'OBO' because of my father's wealth – contrary to what people think."
