Did I mention that I am currently in Naija? No? I landed a couple of days ago and I'm semi-loving it. As usual, it is a mix of the good, the bad, the ugly. But the clean streets are part of the good, which is why these pictures by Funke Akindele caught my attention in a specific way. I have seen Lagos streets close up, and the women street sweepers in action. I have to agree with Funke that they are doing a great job.

According to Funke's captions, "These women are doing a great job in Lagos #lawma #sweepers. So glad hanging out with dem! #jobwelldone #dignityinlabour. They are proud doing this and we are proud of them all. Pls lets encourage them and keep Lagos clean!"

A Pageant For Ugly Men? Former Winner William Masvinu Retains His Title

William Masvinu is the Ugliest Man in Zimbabwe 2013, and in Harare this year, he retains the title, Mr Ugly, and looks forward to winning in the national finals of the "beauty" contest. But I won't ask if you'll marry him, because, Mr Ugly is already taken! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder for sure.

But it's not all about her husband's prize-winning looks, Alice Chabhanga, Mr Ugly's wife, who by the way thinks her husband is the most handsome man in the world, joined him in celebrating his win, saying, "We are happy that the man of the house won the competition and we hope that the organisers will keep their word and give us what is due to us. I will continue supporting him because he is my husband."



Mr Ugly, who does not own a cellphone and earns a living as a tout, echoed her sentiment.

"I think this is a gift from God. I am happy with the results and I hope if given the money I will be able to change my life for the better. Winning the competition has lessened my burden especially considering that one of my children's fees will be paid for the whole year," said Masvinu.



The Zim Herald reports that the prizes handed to the participants include "overalls, safety shoes and rain coats. The company also added US$200 to Masvinu's grand prize, US$100 to the first runner up, Benny Chakanyuka and US$50 and groceries to the second runner up Funny Musekiwa.

Masvinhu also won a year's school fees for one child while the second runner up would benefit from a term's schools fees for his child.

During a press conference at The White House to promote healthy eating and exercise for American kids, Michelle Obama invited surprise guests Elmo and Rosita from Sesame Street. As usual, Michelle looks absolutely in great shape, and not scared to show off her toned arms, lol... and the muppets are just adorable! More pics and the transcript below...


MRS. OBAMA: Today, we have a very special surprise. I am thrilled to be joined by two furry friends from Sesame Street—(laughter)—who will be playing such an important role in this new effort. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Elmo and Rosita!  (Applause.)

ROSITA:  Hola!

ELMO:  Hello, Mrs. Obama!  (Laughter.)

MRS. OBAMA:  It's great to see you. Elmo, I love the tie. You dressed up for our press conference.

ROSITA:  And I wore my pearls, my mom's pearls.

MRS. OBAMA:  Oh, my God, they're beautiful.

ELMO:  Can Elmo tell you a secret?

MRS. OBAMA:  Yes, please.

ELMO:  It's a clip-on. [tie]

MRS. OBAMA:  It's a—oh, it's a clip-on.

ELMO:  It's a clip-on.

MRS. OBAMA:  So, how do you guys feel about getting kids pumped up and excited about eating healthy foods?

ELMO:  Oh, well, it's wonderful.  Elmo loves healthy foods.  Yes, Elmo thinks that fruits and vegetables are delicious.

ROSITA:  Yes, sí, sí, sí, me, too.  And you know what?  They help us grow healthy and strong. Check out these muscles.

MRS. OBAMA:  Let me see your muscle. Let me see it.

ELMO:  Oh, that's a giant muscle, Rosita.  (Laughter.)

MRS. OBAMA:  It's mighty, mighty.  Oh, yes.  Oh, Elmo, oh, your muscle, too, is so powerful.

ROSITA:  Let me see your muscle.  Oh.  (Laughter.)  Wow, strong.

ELMO:  You know, Elmo eats lots of fruits and vegetables every day, Mrs. Obama.

MRS. OBAMA:  That's very good.

ROSITA:  Oh, that's wonderful, Elmo, because you know what?

ROSITA:  Fruits and vegetables are anytime foods.

MRS. OBAMA:  They are.

Omotola was presented with the Ebony Vanguard Award for her long standing achievements in acting at the 7th Black International Film Festival M Visa Awards in Birmingham.






The Movie Video & Screen Awards is an award event which honours black actors. Congrats to Omotola. She is truly a beautiful lady.

Idris Elba Dating Naiyana Garth, And They are Expecting Their First Child Together

Yes o, Idris Elba is taken. The yummy actor was taken off the market by his make-up artist girlfriend, Naiyana Garth. The couple began their relationship several months ago - back in March, Daily Mail posted the picture above of the actor and a mystery lady (Naiyana) attending a Harrods party together. Idris Elba and Naiyana became more open with their relationship after her pregnancy started showing, and she has now been introduced to his family and friends.


The Sun newspaper reports that, "They've been together for a few months but it's really ramped up recently. They get on brilliantly and she's a real hit with his family and friends."

Toni Braxton recenty released a single with Babyface, and recently at a music festival to promote the song and others from her backlist, the singer wowed her audience by bringing her sons Diezel and Denim to join her on stage while she delivered songs. The younger son, Diezel is so much like Toni, isn't he? And Denim is really cute too!

Toni Braxton had her two sons during her recently ended marriage with Keri Lewis. The couple divorced in 2012 after 11 years of marriage.

Tiwa Savage has just released the video of Eminado, one of the songs from her debut album 'Once upon a Time'. Eminado means Goodluck Charm, and the song is definitely a love song that can also be used as a wedding track. The video as directed by Clarence Peters is quite good, featuring a story line that includes an older and a very young couple, Tiwa Savage and Don Jazzy rounds them up.

Through out the day of Toke Makinwa's last birthday, her fiance, Maje Ayida spent some good quality time with her. And he was also there for her intimate birthday dinner. However, when this picture was taken, there were several cameras, and Maje was the one who ended up looking at the camera with the better picture.
