Steph Nora Okere

The light-skinned screen queen has now cried out on the issue and has debunked it.

She wrote on Facebook, "Please folks, kindly tell me what part of my face is burnt so I can see, I really get tired of people cooking up stuff just to create news and sell their papers."

Steph Nora used to be one of the faces that regularly graced the silver screens but lately, she has been missing in action.

Join the debate: Should Mandela's life support machine be unplugged?

Posted: 04 Jul 2013 11:49 AM PDT

Doctors treating Nelson Mandela said he was in a "permanent vegetative state" and advised his family to turn off his life support machine a week ago, according to court documents obtained by AFP Thursday.

"He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine," said the court filing dated June 26.

"The Mandela family have been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off.

"Rather than prolonging his suffering, the Mandela family is exploring this option as a very real probability," read a filing from the family's lawyer, relating to a dispute over the final resting place of Mandela's three children.

Since the document was written, the government, family members and people visiting Mandela have reported his condition has improved.

"He is clearly a very ill man, but he was conscious and he tried to move his mouth and eyes when I talked to him," Denis Goldberg, one of the men who was convicted with Mandela, told AFP after visiting him on Monday.

"He is definitely not unconscious," he said adding that "he was aware of who I was."

Goldberg said he was asked by Mandela's wife Graca Machel to pay him a visit "just to give him mental stimulation."

Presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj refused to comment on the documents.
"We don't have a comment on that," Maharaj told AFP, citing doctor-patient confidentiality.

We have indicated from our point of view that based on the doctors' report the condition of the former president is critical but stable at this stage."
On the day the court document was written President Jacob Zuma reported that Mandela's health had faltered and he cancelled a trip to Mozambique.

The next day the president reported that Mandela's condition had "improved during the course of the night".

Lawyers for Mandela's relatives and family members themselves were not immediately available for comment.

Mandela's wife earlier Thursday said that while occasionally Mandela has been uncomfortable during his nearly one month hospital stay, he has seldom been in pain.

"Now we are about 25 days we have been in hospital," Machel said, giving thanks for the outpouring of well wishes from around the world for the Nobel peace laureate.

"Although Madiba sometimes may be uncomfortable, very few times he is in pain," she said.

The former president, who turns 95 later this month, was rushed to hospital on June 8 with a recurring lung infection.

Meanwhile Nelson Mandela's grandson thrust an increasingly acerbic family feud firmly into the public eye.

Mandla Mandela, forced by a court to return the remains of three of Mandela's children to the revered South African leader's proposed burial ground in Qunu, launched a tirade at close family members.

With his grandfather lying critically ill in hospital, Mandla reacted furiously to the court order, accusing one of his brothers of impregnating his wife and others of being born out of wedlock.

He also accused other close relatives of money grabbing.

"In the past few days I have been the target of attacks from all sorts of individuals wanting a few minutes of fame and media attention at my expense," Mandla said at a nationally televised press conference.

He accused Mandela's daughter Makaziwe of trying to "sow divisions and destruction" in her family.

The anti-apartheid hero's ex-wife Winnie, who has regularly visited him in hospital, "has no business in the matters of the Mandelas," Mandla added.
He also lashed out at his own brother Ndaba for claiming he was born out of wedlock.

"I don't want to hang out our dirty linen as a family in public but he knows very well that my father impregnated a married woman of which he is the result of that act…. As for the remaining of my two brothers we all know that they are not my father's children."

Mandla however said he would not fight a court order to move the remains of his father, uncle and aunt from his estate in Mvezo — the eastern village where he is overseeing large-scale development as the local traditional chief — back to nearby Qunu, Mandela's childhood home.

The three bodies were exhumed Wednesday after a sheriff forced open the gates of Mandla's estate with a pickaxe to allow three hearses to enter the property.

The graves were moved in 2011, allegedly without the family's consent.
After forensic tests confirmed the identities, the hearses transported the remains to Qunu on Thursday for the reburial, according to police.

Sir Shina Peters In Supposed Breach Of Contract With Hajia Dangaji
If information reaching us is anything to go by, then we can tell you authoritatively that Juju Maestro, Sir Shina Peters and the newly elected PMAN president, Alhajia Aminat Dangaji may soon reach for each other's jugular if the situation is not quickly calmed.

According to inside source, the imbroglio that endured between the two of them started sometimes back when the one-time Juju star, SSP as Shina Peters is fondly called planned to launch his latest album and he was said to have contacted the business woman, Hajia Daganji for some financial help.

Being a shrewd business woman, Hajia we gathered, promised to bankroll the event on a condition that the proceeds of the event would be shared on an agreeable percentage. Sources said shortly after the event, Star as Shina is also called by close fans and friends instructed one of his band boys to immediately evacuate with the money so that the woman would not have access to whatever amount they realised on that day.

The woman was said to have felt so cheated and dissapointed by the action of the Afro Juju crooner. Right now, Hajia has kept mum on the whole issue, one of her aides said, madam has promised to deal with Sir Shina Peters when the time comes. Could this really be true?

Female Youth Corper Crippled By Camp Commandant

Female Youth Corper Crippled By Camp Commandant
Miss Mercy Okpithe joined the Dance Troupe on the Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State in November 2012. But four months later she was severely beaten up by the Camp Commandant.

Captain S.O. Beke attacked her about 11:00p.m on Monday, March 18, this year. She allegedly fainted and was rushed to the camp clinic. The following day, she was transferred to the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Awka. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with dislocation of coccyx, a small triangular bone at the base of the spinal column.

The hospital further referred her to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, for special attention. It was gathered that she might be flown abroad for surgery.

Mercy was visited by the correspondent in her home at Lagos. As she lay down on a couch in their living room, the young lady writhed in pains, even as she struggled to answer the reporter's questions. "When the Batch A corps members were in the Orientation Camp in March, this year, the NYSC officials invited members of the Dance Troupe to the camp to teach the new corps members how to dance. We got to the camp in the evening of Sunday, March 17.

"We were 15 all together: 11 boys and four girls. The girls were not meant to stay together in the same room with the boys. But we had to because there was no vacant room. The following morning, the NYSC State Coordinator gave a directive that a separate room should be given to the girls. But the officials could not find a vacant room for us.

"So, they put us in one of the rooms occupied by some Batch 'A' female corps members. We took two mattresses each to the place. There were no bunks. So, we spread the mattresses on the ground. Thereafter, the other three girls slept but I was still awake. I was listening to music on my phone, using an earpiece.

"Around 11:00p.m., some soldiers came into the room. They were both males and females. I felt it was a normal thing because they did the same thing when I was in the camp for orientation exercise in November 2012. Then, I noticed that a female soldier was arguing with one of my friends, Ifedayo Fakehinde.

"Then, the female soldier forcefully removed one of the mattresses which she slept on. Ifedayo sought to know her offence and the soldier hit her. I quickly rose up and caught her as she was falling. Otherwise, she would have hit her head against the wall. But she sprained her hand.

"The incident caused a scene. Many corps members came out and argued with the soldiers. As this was going on, Ifedayo was crying. We calmed her down. Then, the NYSC Schedule Officer came around. He sought to know what happened. As I was explaining what I knew about the incident to him, I heard the voice of the Camp Commandant telling all the corps members to go inside.

"Before I finished my explanation, the commandant came and pushed me. I sought to know why he pushed me. But he pushed me again. I told him to stop pushing me because he could not push his sister like that. But he continued until he pushed me to the wall. Then, he kicked me from the ground and I hit the ground with my back. I couldn't move. Then, I heard other soldiers saying 'die, die, die' till I passed out."

According to a sourse, the Schedule Officer ran to call the State Coordinator, Mrs. I.B. Ekpe, when the commandant was purportedly beating the corps member.

Mr. Solomon Okpithe, Mercy's father, said an official of the NYSC called him on phone in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, telling him that Mercy was involved in an accident and that he should come to Awka immediately.

The official told Mercy's father to come with somebody who would stay in the teaching hospital to take care of Mercy. When he got to the hospital with his wife at about 12:30p.m the following day, they were shocked to hear that she was brutalised by the camp commandant. Okpithe said the first thing that came to his mind was how to save his daughter's life. He sought to see the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the teaching hospital but could not see him until about 7:00p.m when he came out from the theatre.

"I asked the CMD about my daughter's condition, but he said the hospital could not handle it and he would refer her to Enugu. I told him that I was from Lagos and asked if he could refer her to any hospital in Lagos. Then, he said he would refer her to Igbobi. Immediately, he instructed the doctor that was in charge to write the letter.

"On Thursday morning, we were at Igbobi. The doctors at the hospital tried but the sad thing is that they told us they could not handle it too. They said it's not just an orthopaedic case but something that has to do with the spine. They treated her and asked us to take her home. Then, they gave an appointment," he said.

On the next appointment day, according to Okpithe, the hospital said the first option, which was the treatment by orthopaedic doctors, had failed. "They said they were taking another option now and if it fails, the third option would be a surgery." Okpithe, who has since been responsible for his daughter's hospital bills, disclosed that Mrs. Ekpe promised the family that NYSC would reinburse whatever amount spent on the treatment, adding that Ekpe said she had informed the national secretariat of NYSC in Abuja about the development and had also written a letter to the NYSC in Lagos State about the incident.

"I have received calls from one Mrs. Daniel from the NYSC Office, Lagos, telling me I should accept their sympathy on my daughter. But on the other hand, Mrs Ekpe never stated the cause of the dislocation. I know she's doing that to protect the officer." Okpithe, an engineer, urged the Chief of Army Staff to ensure proper reform of the army, especially those in charge of NYSC.

He also advised the Federal Government to provide necessary items for corps members on the camp. The issue of inadequate mattresses, he said, caused the problem. When contacted on phone to react to the claims, Captain Beke neither confirmed nor denied the incident.

Customs killed 30-yr-old car dealer 'Uririnke Onojorhoevwo'

Customs killing 30-year-old car dealer
Officials of the Nigerian Customs Service in Iyana Ipaja area of the state are currently under investigation for murder.

The Lagos State Police Command carrying out the investigation said 30-year-old car dealer, Uririnke Onojorhoevwo from Delta State was shot to death on June 16, 2013, after being pursued by customs men attached to the Federal Operation Unit.

A few  policemen attached to Gowon Police Division, witnessed the incident, saying after the killing, the customs men fled.

"On June 16, around 5am, we saw customs men in a Toyota Hilux van with registration number, CS307A01, chasing a white unregistered Audi Station wagon. The customs men shot the tyre of the vehicle and also shot its driver," a policeman, who craved anonymity, said, "The driver, who was bleeding profusely, came out of the vehicle and attempted to run. One of the customs men alighted from the Hilux, moved close to the car dealer, and shot him again. They did not touch the corpse but entered into their vehicle and fled immediately."
The Punch reports:

The police source told PUNCH Metro that policemen later recovered the corpse and took it to the station.

When asked if the deceased was a smuggler, the policeman said there was no evidence to prove that he was.

He said, "After the killing, we began preliminary investigation. We thought he was a smuggler but we decided to search the vehicle. We discovered that all the relevant documents were intact including the customs duty.

"We also deduced that the deceased was driving from Idi-Iroko border and was heading towards Lagos."

Our correspondent learnt that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation.

A source at the Homicide Department at the SCID, told our correspondent that all attempts to get information from the NCS proved abortive as it did not respond to a letter written to it.

The source said, "We wrote a letter to customs two weeks ago. We even made telephone calls to their administration department, but they have not been forthcoming."

The elder brother of the deceased, Bakapo Onojorhoevwo, told PUNCH Metro that the deceased sold vehicles for a living.

He said the deceased was based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and was probably heading towards there when he was killed.

He said he was pained that his brother was not married and had no children. He  said the family would like to know what transpired.

He said, "Around 7.30am on that very day, I called my brother's telephone but a policeman picked it up and told me that my brother was involved in an accident and I should come to Mainland Medical Centre, Yaba. I went there with my younger sister and we were told that my brother had been killed by customs men.

"His corpse is still there and we are waiting for autopsy. My brother has been dealing in cars for the past four years. We do not know what actually happened so we want the customs to explain to us."

When contacted on the telephone, Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the NCS, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, said investigations were ongoing.

A text message he sent to our correspondent read, "We are on top of the situation. Necessary and appropriate steps will be taken in due course."

Pharrell Williams
It appears Pharrell Williams' lofty expectations for his Miami penthouse have come back down to earth. The acclaimed hip-hop artist raised eyebrows in November when he posted the Bristol Tower trilevel in November for a staggering $16.8 million.
However, the home has languished on the market for nearly nine months, so the former N.E.R.D. member has reportedly lowered his asking price by nearly $6 million.

Terraces are the name of the game at Pharrell's now $10.9 million offering. The 9,090-square-foot penthouse comes with a multitude of outdoor spaces that soak up dramatic views of South Beach. There's a 180-degree wrap-around balcony, a pool terrace, a second-level pool and terrace, a summer kitchen patio and a rooftop terrace.

Other highlights include private elevator access, a home theater and floor-to-ceiling glass throughout.

How thunderstorm killed a 23-year-old man on his birthday
Nigerians are beginning to experience Nigerian Meteorological Agency forecast of extreme rainfall this year. Many states in the country has already recorded volumes of rain like never before.

In Osogbo, the Osun State capital yesterday, tragedy struck as many houses lost their roofs to the gusting wind that accompanied the two-hour rain, with property worth millions said to be destroyed.

A resident of Oke Ayepe area of Osogbo was quoted as saying that the state has not witnessed the kind of destruction caused by the rain storm in a long time.

"The government did its best by clearing flood channels, but you know nobody can control the wind. It was so devastating. A lot of houses were destroyed."

The source who pleaded anonymity said worse than the destruction of property the rain brought was the life of one of his colleagues that "the rain took away".

"They finished the work in my area and were just going home when the rain started. They hid somewhere for the rain to reduce, but as they waited for the long rain, thunder struck my colleague and he died. It was unbelievable."

The source said what made his colleague's death more painful was that he could have been at home when it rained.

"Yesterday was his birthday. He clocked 23. I heard his friends advised him to rest at home on his birthday, but he insisted on going to work. I heard he asked them who will be feeding him after his birthday, and that was how they left him to go.

The 23-year-old victim was said to have been buried according to Islamic rites.
