All You Need To Know About Mou Abudu.. Founder Of EbonyLife TV

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 12:39 PM PDT

A woman who could be considered Africa's Oprah Winfrey is launching an entertainment network that will be beamed into nearly every country on the continent with programs showcasing its burgeoning middle class.
Mosunmola "Mo" Abudu wants EbonyLife TV to inspire Africans and the rest of the world, and change how viewers perceive the continent. The network's programming tackles women's daily life subjects — everything from sex tips to skin bleaching.

"Not every African woman has a pile of wood on her head and a baby strapped to her back!" the glamorous 48-year-old told The Associated Press from a hotel's penthouse floor against a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and high-rise buildings flanked by palm and almond trees.
"We watch Hollywood as if all of America is Hollywood," she said. "In that same vein we need to start selling the good bits of Africa."
Months of work to provide original content includes the flagship program "Sistaz!" about two Greek-Nigerian sisters and a British-born Nigerian friend who check into the Eko Hotel for a holiday reunion and rediscover the passion of sisterhood and the vibrant city of Lagos.
"It helps show that you can go to Africa for a holiday, you can go to Nigeria on holiday, you can go to Lagos" and enjoy a vacation, Abudu said of the much-maligned Nigerian financial capital that is much improved since the country transitioned from military dictatorship to civilian rule in 1999.
The characters are as cosmopolitan as Abudu, a tall and elegant woman with sculpted cheekbones. She was born in London, came to Nigeria when she was a youngster and returned to Britain after her father died when she was 12. She returned to settle when she married a Nigerian at age 28.
Once her children were in their teens, Abudu, a former executive with the oil giant Exxon-Mobil, abandoned a 20-year career in human resources in 2006 to become a self-taught television talk show host. "Moments with Mo" became the first syndicated daily talk show on African regional TV and also is aired in Britain on a Sky TV channel.
She has interviewed celebrities from Hillary Rodham Clinton, former African presidents F. W. de Klerk of South Africa and John Kufuor of Ghana, former England soccer skipper Rio Ferdinand, musician R. Kelly and American fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg.
A telling moment for Abudu came she was standing at London's Marble Arch and decided, on a whim, to ask people what came to their minds when they heard the word Africa.
The answers ranged from Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's dictatorial ruler of 33 years, the British charity Oxfam and famine to babies with flies on their faces. "The nicest thing I heard was 'sunshine,'" said an appalled Abudu.
Years later, she is setting out to transform that vision by shining a bright light on the so-called "dark continent's" riches — its super-talented young entrepreneurs, fabulous art scene, up-and-coming fashion designers, provocative authors and sassy musicians.
One program is hosted by rhythm and blues artist Banky W and singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage. Their first program discusses why more and more Nigerian women are bleaching their skins and whether men prefer lighter-skinned black women.
So the network will not ignore some of the darker sides of Africa's realities, though Abudu promises "a different reality."
It will feature a specially commissioned movie, "New Horizons," from award-winning filmmaker Tope Oshin Ogun that bares the plight of women across the continent subjected to domestic abuse, a prevalent crime that is not often addressed.
And radio host Oreka Godis stars in "Love Lounge," where she will ask the cheeky questions for which she is known of sexologists, life coaches and psychotherapists.
While Nollywood movies also are notorious for often poor quality, though this is improving, Abudu aims for the highest quality in a network she hopes will eventually be broadcast beyond Africa to the millions in the diaspora.
"What we say is 'Everything you think you know about Africa is about to change,'" Abudu said.

Celestial Church Prophet Owolere Odunuga Jailed In Kirikiri Over Visa Fraud

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:24 AM PDT

Prophet Owolere Odunuga of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Ibeshe District, Ikorodu, who was arrested for alleged visa fraud, has been remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

He allegedly confessed that he used part of the money to pay his tithe, used some to pay his house rent and invested the rest in his church.
At the Ejigbo Magistrate's Court where he was arraigned, he also told the court that immigration officials at the airport collected N60,000 per passport to stamp a fake Visa for him.

Odunuga was arrested after he allegedly defrauded a housewife, Mrs Olayemi Oluwapelumi, of N752,000 under the false pretence of procuring United States of America Visa for her.

Odunuga said he worked as travel agent before he received a call from God to start his own church.

He admitted that the Dubai and South Africa Visas stamped on Mrs. Oluwapelumi's passport were not genuine and that they were stamped at the airport by immigration officials whom he paid the money.

Odunuga was arrested by the police when he was lured to come and collect another money for procurement of a Visa for the victim.

According to Oluwapelumi, he knew Odunuga when they were living together at Ikorodu.

She said she approached him for Visa so that she will join her husband in USA.

She said she paid part of the N752,000 into his account and gave the rest as cash to him.

Mrs. Oluwapelumi narrated that trouble started when he took her to South African Embassy in Lagos and she was denied Visa.

She alleged that he went and stamped the passport with fake Visa stamp and gave it to her to go to the embassy to apply for Visa.

She said when she wanted to travel with the Visa again, it was discovered that the stamp on the passport was fake.

Mrs Oluwapelumi then went to the police to report the matter and he was arrested and taken to the station where he allegedly confessed.

When he was arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrate's court for obtaining and stealing under the Criminal Code, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. Odunuga was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri till he fulfills his hail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 31 July, 2013.

Controversy Trails Fashola's Birthday Cake (LOOK)

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:12 AM PDT

Gov. Fashola of Lagos state celebrated his 50th birthday few days ago. Many were in attendance including the Former Governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. From the picture above, the cakes looks like a free advert for a foreign club, Manchester United. Many Nigerians were angered with this development, see some of their comments below:
Dare: Nigeria's Leaders' Shallow Mentality: Even at levels as high as the governor's office, they still subscribe to the silly mentality of supporting foreign institutions blindly to the detriment of their own. Is the Lagos State government a shareholder in the Manchester United football business or what? How come a British football club, 6,500 kilometres away is being given free advert while the Stationery Stores FC of Lagos State is totally crippled and is not on the world's football radar? I just don't understand the sense behind these ugly cakes.
What purpose do these symbols of cakey "bitter" cakes (with full insignia of Lagos State imposed side by side that of Man U logo) serve the interests of Lagosians except to continually get investments, recognition, etc., out of the state in favour of Manchester, UK which sadly still, did not solicit for the advert in any way? What about the effect this picture will have on unsuspecting, young, impressionable and naive minds in many years to come? I just can't come to terms with this childish idea at Fashola's 50th birthday. It just steers logic on its head.
I love Fashola but I'm really disappointed at this anomaly at his 50th birthday. Hear this! Governor Fashola, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the management of Manchester United does not even know you guys exit, so please stop deluding yourselves and get on with the business of empowering your people and country. These Nigerian dealers (not leaders) must be jesters fit only for the circus. What a shame!

Muyiwa: the picture shows they are not the solution to nigeria. that i am the solution.. is that what you are telling me. i watch nigeria local league every week.

there is nothing bad in nigeria league. they play very well. 3sc have mutiu adegoke , adeboye, , adeshina, moses ogaga, rangers enugu team have Godwin Ayalogu, uche Okafor,Nnaemeka Anyasodo

Cyntia: But i think the three cakes were a bit too much for a public official in a country where our fellow country men are suffering. It's kinda elitist and out of touch.

Pricillia: May your days be long Guv.

Whoever dreamt up the idea of putting that Man-U cake up for public display needs to be dangled at the end of fishing rod!

Kween: for a leader, truly it's quite bafflin...woulda felt much better wit d national colors or even d lagos state's or logo...but its all gud!

Dear Readers, What is you own take on this?

Abramovich’s Chelsea: A Brief Insight Of The Russian Billionaire.

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:05 AM PDT

Roman Abramovich.
Roman Abramovich celebrates his ten-year anniversary as Chelsea FC owner today.  The secretive Russian billionaire was reported to have a personal fortune of £3.5bn when he took over from Ken Bates in 2003. In 2004, Sunday Times said he was worth £7.5bn, putting him at the top of Britain's rich list. The 2013 Sunday Times 'rich list' places him fifth in the UK worth £9.3bn.
Here are some few more facts you might not have known about the Russian who dropped out of a Moscow college before making his fortune in oil deals in the early 1990s.  Abramovich lost both parents at the age of four and was later adopted by his uncle. He gained a law degree from Moscow State Law Academy in less than a year.  Notoriously media shy, Russian TV did not have a photograph of Abramovich until 1999.
He owns the biggest yacht in the world, the Eclipse. The 340m vessel has two swimming pools and a submarine.
Abramovich spent over £5m on a party at St Bart's Hospital where the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed.
He bought nine apartments in London and converted them into a 30,000-squaure foot apartment, making it the most expensive property in London.
In 2008 he spent over £60m on two paintings in a two-day spending spree at Christie's and Sotheby's in New York, buying Lucian Freud's Benefits Supervisor Sleeping for £17m and then Francis Bacon's Triptych (1976) for £43m. His ex-wife Irina was granted £1bn and four homes in the world's costliest divorce in 2007

Drugs Double-Wrapped In Condoms Removed From Woman’s Pelvis

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 09:59 AM PDT

A woman arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs from Mexico into the United States had to have a one-pound package of methamphetamine surgically removed from her pelvis last week.

Claudia Ibarra, 31, was taken into custody after U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents patted her down and "realized there was something down there," spokeswoman Teresa Small told The Associated Press on Friday.
A doctor removed from Ibarra a black package of drugs double-wrapped in condoms.

Ibarra, a U.S. citizen and resident of Yuma, Ariz., had attempted to cross the border at San Luis alone and on foot, according to authorities.

Per a tabulation of U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection data by the Center for Investigative Reporting, more than 36,000 pounds of methamphetamine were seized by agents along the U.S.-Mexico border between 2005 and 2011.

Although that number pales in comparison to the amounts of marijuana and cocaine seized in the area during the same time period, the amount of meth reported appears to be increasing year over year.

A separate report by the AP notes that the spike in meth seizures "reflects a shift in production to Mexico after a U.S. crackdown on domestic labs."

According to the AP, drug mules – including children – have been discovered with caches of meth hidden in many unlikely places.

Boko Haram Slaughters 10 Ibadan Foodstuff Sellers In Borno

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 09:57 AM PDT

Less than two months after four members of Ibadan Foodstuff Sellers Association were killed by gunmen in Borno State, another set of traders, number about 10, were allegedly killed by gunmen said to be members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram...
Consequently, the president of the association, Alhaji Musliudeen Olalekan Azeez, has called on the Federal Government to save their members from incessant attacks and untimely deaths.

Azeez, speaking with journalists at the Bodija Market, on Monday, said they learnt that their members, 10 of them, were among the over 60 people killed by people suspected to be Boko Haram members.

Eight of those allegedly killed were said to be traders at Bodija Market, while two others were from Orita-merin Market, also in Ibadan.

Confirming the report, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the market, Mr Akeem Emiola, said the sad news was relayed to them on Friday through a telephone conversation by one of their customers, adding that "since then, we have been making contact with the families of the deceased."

World's Largest Building: The New Century Global Center Opens In China [Photos And Video]

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 09:54 AM PDT

The numbers are little short of staggering; at 500 metres long, 400 metres wide and 100 metres high a 1.76-million-square-metre-mega-building has been opened in Sichuan province in southwestern China.

The New Century Global Center, officially the largest freestanding building in the world, took three years to complete and will house offices, shopping malls, a Mediterranean village, a 14-screen IMAX Cineplex and an ice-skating rink large enough to hold international skating competitions.

Scroll down to watch video...

The building is so large it is capable of housing the equivalent of 20 Sydney Opera Houses and is almost three times the size of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

At the centre of the building is a huge water park called Paradise Island. Around 400,000 square metres of the building are dedicated to shopping.

The building sits directly opposite the Chengdu Contemporary Arts Centre, designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.

The New Century Global Center is at the heart of a new planned area of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China.

Its opening has been timed to coincide with the expansion of a new subway line for the area and the planned construction of a new airport set for completion in 2020.

From June 6-8, Chengdu hosted this year's Fortune Global Forum, an annual invite-only event featuring chairs, presidents, and CEOs of the world's largest companies.

According to Xinhua, China's official state media, by the end of 2012 Chengdu's GDP had hit 800 billion RMB (US$130.48 billion).

"I work hard & I can enjoy my money" Wizkid defends buying N15m car

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 09:51 AM PDT

Wizkid replaced his N15million Porsche Panamera car with a brand new one less than two weeks after crashing it in an accident. Some people criticized him for it but the music star says he works hard and can spend his money any way he wants to.
He tells Encomium magazine:
"I needed to get another one because after the accident, I didn't have a car and I have to move around. I started taking cabs before I decided to buy this new car to move around. It is needed for work. And I don't think there's anything wrong in splashing millions on a car. If someone works hard and decides to spend on something that he thinks is good for him, why not? In fact, I don't think there's need to justify whether its is wrong or not. I work hard and I will enjoy my money"

SEE The Beautiful 15 year old girl That Killed Herself By Jumping In Front Of A Train

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 05:42 AM PDT

A tormented girl ended her life by jumping in front of an oncoming train, according to reports.

The Staten Island, New York, tormented teenager who committed suicide by jumping into the path of a train was hounded to death by her classmates after having sèx with four football players, police sources said Thursday.

Felicia Garcia, a freshman of 15-years-old attended Tottenville High School. She committed suicide after two 17-year-old classmates blabbed about the encounters.

"The kids were saying that she had sèx with some guys on the football team at a party after the game," a friend of the girl said. "They did not leave her alone about it. They just continued their harassment and bullying her."

After the weekend, the intimidation of Felicia sent her to the end after a long life with problems. "I cannot, I'm done, I give up," she wrote on Monday.

School officials heard of the bullying and established a mediation session Wednesday with a counselor and one boy of 17-years-old. The teenager denies harassing the girl, the sources said.

At the office, Felicia later met with a 17-year-old who had been making her life miserable and exchanged some words, sources said. Police did not say what he said. But it was enough to send Felicia marching to the train station at Huguenot Staten Island, where she committed suicide in front of her horrified companions.

See What Happened Before Iyanya Lost Yvonne Nelson's Drug And Dumped Her

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 05:35 AM PDT

Contrary to the impression that fast-rising singer, Iyanya, was trying to create that he has no love feelings for Ghanian/Nollywood actress, Yvonne Nelson, fresh facts have shown that he was madly in love with her, so much that he tattooed the lady's initials on his wrist.
Probably this was why he said during a freestyle session recently that "Yvonne Nelson, I lost your medicine" as it appeared what happened to him was just lust, love not. See the photos below:

ASUU Close Down Universities; Begins Nationwide Strike

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 04:43 AM PDT

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday declared an indefinite strike nationwide. The union adopted a resolution to go on strike after its ASUU-NEC meeting at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, from Sunday till Monday.
Fifty-one of the union's 53 branches unanimously agreed to embark on the strike. The action followed the default by the Federal Government to:

Honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which formed a component of the 2009 agreement the FG signed with the union.

Declaring the strike, ASUU Chairman at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, told reporters yesterday that the strike was a "painful yet inevitable decision".

He said ASUU was tired of the government's inconsistency, adding that the union could no longer tolerate the insults.

Throwing more light on the AEA, Ogbinaka said it includes allowances paid as part of excess work load responsibility allowance and the allowance for supervision of post-graduate programmes, for lecturers, heads of departments (HoDs), deans, examination officers, among others.

He said the highest AEA is N12,500 per month, wondering why it was difficult for the government to live up to its promises.

Ogbinaka recalled that following the 2009 agreement, the Federal Government entered into an MoU with the ASUU and other academic bodies. The union leader said after negotiation, the government agreed to also support tertiary education with N100billion.

He added: "Later, the government came out to say N100 billion was too much and might cause inflation. We again came down to N80 billion. But to our surprise, the Minister of Education and the NUC told us that the money was not included in the budget. Later, they promised it will be included in the supplementary budget.

"But later, the government said it could only pay 50 per cent of the N80 billion, which is about one quarter of the total amount. To complicate matter, the government said it would pay only one-off while universities would then continue to pay the rest.

"We felt this is a betrayal of the agreement and this is what forced us to convene this NEC meeting where 51 of our 53 branches nationwide unanimously agreed that the strike is the only solution."

Why I Love To Steal In Churches ––Man's Shocking Confession

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 04:36 AM PDT

The anti-robbery squad at the Oko-Oba division of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly specialised in bugling churches in Lagos.

The suspect identified as Sannu Umaru was reportedly caught in the act inside one of the Pentecostal churches in the Oko-Oba area of Lagos last weekend...
Umaru who claimed to be son of a retired army personnel, told policemen during interrogation that he preferred stealing from churches because of the security lapses.

Preliminary investigation, according to police sources, revealed that Umaru was allegedly involved in some robbery incidents in churches around the area. Before his arrest, he allegedly bugled a church where he made away with some musical instruments.

According to Police sources, "on that fateful night, he scaled the fence of the church and went to where the musical instruments were. As he was about carrying the piano valued close to half a million naira, one of the instruments fell down and attracted the night guards who went for him.

"He jumped through the fence with one of the instruments he stole. But he was apprehended by residents of the area who were alerted by the the guards and was brought to the station. He was found to have also burgled another church within the week."

But in his confessional statement, Umaru blamed his indulgence on frustration, saying:
"I was tempted to steal because of the death of my father. After his death, I went into scavenging but did not succeed. I chose to bugle churches because it is easier than any other place.

"Aside this, I do not need to be armed. I was scared of carrying arms and did not want to spill blood. That is why I considered stealing in churches as a gentleman's way.

"What I do is, anytime I go there, I would search the offering boxes. At times I would find money inside, while at other times I would not. At Saint Barnabas Church, I did not find any money inside the offering box. So, I decided to steal their music instrument."

Umaru has been charged to court for his crimes.

Pastor Kumuyi's son apologizes over the way his bride was dressed for their wedding(Read Letter)

Posted: 02 Jul 2013 04:34 AM PDT

For those who still don't know, there has been serious controversies trailing the marriage of the second son of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, John Kumuyi, to his heartthrob, former Miss Love Odih.

After their wedding on the 15 of June, they received a significant level of backlash over how the bride was dressed which is claimed to be against the doctrines of their church. The bride who happens to be the daughter of the National Overseer of DLBC in Jamaica, wore a wedding gown, ear rings, held a bouquet and applied make-up .
We'll, both Bride and Groom offered a public apology which was read to the congregation on Saturday during the church's mid-year celebration programme held at the Deeper Life Conference Centre, Lagos-Ibadan Expresway and broadcast live to branches all over Nigeria and some parts of Africa via satellite.
Read apology letter below

"John and Love Kumuyi write to express our deepest and most sincere apology for the turn of events, that have resulted on our traditional and wedding ceremonies, that took place in Jamaica on 13th June and 15th June, 2013 respectively.
"We unreservedly and wholeheartedly state that we did not intend that our acts or omissions will, in any way, undermine the great works that God has done through the Deeper Christian Life Ministry worldwide and more specifically, through our Father in the Lord, the General Superintendent.
"We also use this medium to profusely and sincerely apologise to the General Superintendent for the embarrassment and heartaches, our actions have caused him, more so that he has earlier declined to be at the events.
"This, notwithstanding, we fully accept that having been nurtured, taught and brought up with the sound teaching of the word of God, we should have been able to draw the line, which we failed to do.
"We have now realised the effects of our actions and omission and do plead with the church for forgiveness and also appealing that any action that should be taken be directed at John and Love, as we take this time to prayerfully reflect on our actions. We take full responsibility for what happened, and this action should, in no way, be blamed on the GS, or the leaders of the church in Nigeria, United States, Jamaica or United Kingdom and beyond."

A Catholic priest, Father Francois Murad, (left and circled) was killed on 23 June in Gassanieh, northern Syria by jihadist rebels in front of a cheering crowd, the Vatican news agency reported yesterday. The beheading of the 49 year old priest was filmed on a camera phone and recently posted on the internet.
The priest had been staying in the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land when he was seized by the rebels who accused him of collaborating with Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

See the video after the cut...but we warned, it's extremely graphic.
