Police arrest son for killing father in Redeem Camp! Posted: 06 Jul 2014 11:16 AM PDT   The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Tolani Ajayi, 21, for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Charles Ajayi(SAN), at the Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of July 3. A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday said the body of Ajayi, 60,was recovered in a bush at Canaan Land Street, RCCG  Camp, in a box where the body was kept after the Senior Advocate of Nigeria was killed by his son. The suspect, said to be a 300-Level student of the Department of History and International Relations of Redeemer University, located at the Redemption Camp, Mowe in Ogun State, was picked up by the police in his late father's residence at about 5.30pm on Thursday after what the police described as preliminary findings. The command's statement read in part, "The DPO, Redemption Camp, SP Olaiya Martins, had led a team of detectives and some members of the community, who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect while dumping a box, to the point, where the body of the late SAN was dumped. "They thereafter traced  the ground  marks of the dragged box from where  the suspect  dumped the dad's corpse to the house of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria,where they met the suspect in a relaxed mood. Upon interrogation, the suspect earlier lied  that his dad had gone on evangelism before he eventually confessed to the crime when he was taken to the Redemption Camp Divisional Headquarters. "He stated further that the problem arose when his father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he(the deceased) was calling, claiming that the father slapped him. He said he went 'mad' and picked up a knife from the kitchen to stab him(father) and later a cutlass to cut his throat." 3 Men Chased by Police get Crushed to Death by BRT Bus in Lagos (VIEWER'S DISCRETION IS ADVISED) Posted: 06 Jul 2014 10:06 AM PDT     This happened this afternoon, An Okada rider and his 2 male passengers were crushed to death this afternoon at Awoyaya bus-stop  along the Lekki-Epe Express way in Lagos as they were being chased by a police van. While trying to escape from the police who were chasing them to seize their bike for riding on the express, the Okada, which was in high speed, collided with a BRT bus that crushed them to death. According to an eye-witness, area boys gathered and burnt the police van. The army had to be brought in to calm the situation. 'I Need Money, Pay Me More And I Will Stay' - Keshi Tells NFF Posted: 06 Jul 2014 10:04 AM PDT Out of contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has given conditions that would make him consider if he will continue as coach of the national team. Keshi who led Nigeria to yet another round of 16 finish at the world cup after 20 years, revealed that he was ready to move on, if he was not given better conditions to work as Nigerian coach. He added that he has several offers including that of South Africa, which, according to him is most likely to happen. He submitted that he would very much love to continue with the "Nigerian project" he has started: "But  if the offer isn't good enough for me, then I will explore other options and possibly move on to another challenge. 41-year-old Man arrested with human skull Claims to belong to Dey-Well cult! [Photo] Posted: 06 Jul 2014 08:54 AM PDT   A 41-year-old suspected cultist, kidnapper and ritualist, Onwuzuruike Nwakaogwu, has confessed to his involvement in a cult group popularly called Dey-Well at Igwuruta village, Ikwerre Local Government area of Rivers State, just as he revealed the identity of the deceased whose skull was found with him as Victoria. The suspect claimed his efforts at getting money from the skull yielded fruit before his arrest as he said that it used to spew out N10, N20, N50 notes whenever he poured 'kain kain' (alcoholic drink) on the skull before reciting incantations. But his efforts at repeating the same act in the presence of Sunday Tribune after alcoholic drink was given him yielded no result as the skull remained as it was without bringing out money. Speaking with Sunday Tribune on the arrest of the suspect, the Commissioner of Police in State, Mr Tunde Ogunsakin, said that SARS operatives, headed by Tunji Disu, a Chief Superintendent of Police, received an intelligence report on the activities of some ritualists at Igwuruta vilage in April, 2014. He disclosed that the Officer-in- Charge raised a team, led by Inspector David Ameh, and assigned it the duty of gathering more information on the activities of the suspected ritualists. The commissioner said the operatives were able to get information about the leader of the suspected group in the person of Nwakaogwu in May but efforts to arrest him proved abortive as he was always on the run. However, the security agents' moves yielded fruit on Monday, June 23 when a combined team of Metro Intelligence, Metro Storm and Bomb Squad of C4One section went to the suspect's hideout at Omuwenyi in Igwuruta village and arrested him, Ogunsakin added. He said that items recovered from Nwakaogwu included a local pump action gun, four live cartridges and human skull surrounded by bitter kola and neatly kept in a corner of his one-room apartment. "Upon investigation, it was discovered that the skull was that of a lady who was murdered by the suspect and his gang. The suspect also admitted to using the skull as a medium to get rich, claiming that the skull talked whenever he performed libation on it, and would give him naira notes in N10, N20 and N50 denomination. The suspect also confessed his membership of a brutal cult group 'Dey-Well', the police commissioner stated further, saying that investigations were still ongoing. Speaking with Crime Reports at the premises of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nwakaogwu said he went for the head two years after Victoria was killed so that it could yield him money.  The commercial bus driver told Crime Reports: "It is true the police found the human skull in my room. I was the one who kept it there. The gun and live cartridges that they also found in my room belong to me. I am a hunter so I use them for hunting." On how he came about the skull, Nwakaogwu said: "I saw it in the bush about two weeks before my arrest. I was in the bush on 'patrol' when I came across the skull by luck. I know the lady to whom the skull belonged. Her name was Victoria and she was a tenant in our village. She was from Imo State. I learnt she went to steal cassava in the farm and she was beaten to death, after which she was roasted. The incident occurred over two years ago. "I was not around on that day but learnt about it when I returned to the village. When I stumbled on the skull two weeks ago, I decided to pick since nobody was in need of it. I took it to my room and kept it there. Anytime I had alcoholic drink, I poured it on the skull, waiting for it to bring money that I could use. "Since I got the skull, I had been able to get N4,000, but not at once. It used to be in N10, N20, N50 notes. I did not know how and from where the money used to come because I would have locked my door. I usually met the money on the floor in the corner of my room where I kept the skull. I surrounded it with bitter kola so as to prevent ants from destroying it." The suspect also confessed further: "I belong to Dey-Well cult group which I joined in 1995. I am an ordinary member. I joined the cult group so that I could get help from other members anytime I had problem. We help one another during ceremonies like burial. That doesn't stop me from going to church as a Christian. "I started smoking marijuana since five years ago but I am not a kidnapper as is being said. I was once arrested by Elembu Division over a goat stolen by my friend. I had no hand in the stealing." Saying that modern day security was his command's benchmark, Mr Ogunsakin reiterated his determination to secure the lives and property of law-abiding citizens of Rivers State, warning that his administration would not condone any shoddy dealings in the interest of a few. Update on police assault of pregnant woman in Lagos! [Photos] Posted: 06 Jul 2014 08:57 AM PDT   Women's rights activists Dr Joe Odumakin has threatened to mobilize all pregnant women for protest if the police officer that assaulted a pregnant women in Lagos is not disciplined. A clip which surfaced few days ago on the social media, showing a police officer identified as Arthur Okeke harrasing a pregnant woman with disregard for her condition has continued to attract more reactions. The victim, Mrs. Rashidat Oyelowo Abdulmajeed recounted her experience while speaking to journalists in Lagos. She told of how the police officer conducted himself very embarrassingly. Watch the video here The victim stated that she was slapped and her hijab was also torn during the encounter on the bus with police officer, Mr. Arthur Okeke.  She narrated that the policeman was in a seat behind the one she sat on the bus, and he officer leaned forward, resting his arms on guard of her own seat, but her back was also relaxed on same guard. The woman said Officer Arthur Okeke ordered her to raise her back from the seat, but she had responded that it was meant for occupant of seats to rest their back on. Besides, she said, she told the officer that she was pregnant. Officer Arthur began assaulting her thereafter. "He pulled my hijab from the back and forcefully reclined my head backwards so that my head hung over", she said. Her narration, which buttressed the visual spreading on the social media, included how the police officer ordered the bus to stop and also asked every passenger to alight so he'd torture her more. She said every passenger condemned his actions, but most of them were under trepidation he might harm them. While the bus stopped,  the officer also called on another who was directing the traffic, on the road to join him in the act, but he was turned down.  Reacting to the incidence in Lagos, female activist and president of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin who received the victim in her office on Friday, called on the Police Inspector General, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed to take on the erring officer for disciplinary action. Okei-Odumakin warned that the spate of police indiscriminate molestation of citizens is on the increase and moreso, unacceptable.  "I trust the IG of police that he will take action on this and bring Arthur Okeke to book. But failure to do this, we will mobilize all pregnant Women and protest police brutality on the street for the sake of Mrs. Rasheedat", she said.  Meanwhile, the Police Force has not said anything about disgraceful conduct of the officer, despite many communications to it about the incidence. Severally, the video has been tweeted, tagging the Police authority on social media with the video, but no single response from the police came on it. Evil Son Kills His Dad & Sets the Body Ablaze in Lagos Posted: 06 Jul 2014 09:00 AM PDT     The young man not only butchered his very own father, but also burnt the body of the deceased until it was unrecognizable... Daily Sun is,reporting the shocking story of how residents of number 16 Ikogba Street, Monkey Village, Lagos are still unable to solve since June 30, 2014 when the heinous crime was committed. The suspect, Arinze Agwanze who neighbours claimed, is men­tally challenged, butchered his father to death with a machete and went ahead to set his corpse and the entire house ablaze in an attempt to cover up his evil deed. Arinze from Anambra State lived with his parents at 16 Ikogba Street, Monkey Village, in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State. Close neighbours claimed they overheard him murmuring to himself that his late father, Mr Agwanze who was suffering from stroke had been getting on his ways and promised to deal with him. Nobody knew what really trans­pired between Arinze and his father that led the son to kill his father that fateful day. However, a neighbour who did not want her name in print said Arinze has always been stub­born. On the day of the incident, his father was said to have sent him on an errand, but instead of attending to his father's needs, he was busy pressing his phone. This got his father infuriated, prompting him to smash his son's phone. This action of the father made Arinze angry and he in return smashed his father's phone.Not done yet, the boy took a cutlass and attacked his father cut­ting his head in the process resulting in the man bleeding to death. When Arinze observed that his father was dead from the injuries he inflicted on him, he feared that he would be arrested and perhaps beaten up. To cover up, he quickly set the house with his late father's body inside on fire and went into hiding to avoid the wrath of relatives and resi­dents. Neighbours' attention were, however, drawn to the scene by the flaming fire and on getting to the house, they sighted the dead man with his head skull ripped open and blood gushing out inside the burn­ing house. The suspect has since ran away from the house. When Sunday Sun visited the street, there were still the hush voices of sympathisers and the remnant of the burnt house, even as carpenters and other repair workers are working day and night to bring it back to normalcy. Some neighbours claimed that before Arinze sent his father to his untimely death on that day, he was seen at noon burning some family members' cloths downstairs before moving upstairs to spread the entire house with petrol and set the house on fire while his father was in a pool of his blood. One of Arinze`s siblings who is yet to come to terms with what could have transpired between Arinze and their father, as all members of the family went out for their normal business on that fateful day, said they came back to find their father murdered and the entire parlour of their house wrecked by fire. "I don't believe whatever Arinze is say­ing to defend this tragedy that befell our household. At a young age, he had brain damage and it is not everybody that knows. It is only us members of his family that are aware of his situation. Whenever he gets upset, it's always uncontrollable. It comes to him in a flash like an evil spirit. That he claimed that our father offended him is the one thing I don't believe." A neighbour who spoke under anonymity, revealed that Arinze has this rage of anger that he flares up intermittently. He said though every­one has been keeping close eyes on him, he maintained that one hardly believes that Arinze is insane because the suspect sales recharge cards and do other normal things like every other normal person and also browses with his phone. He asked rhetorically, how can someone who is not normal browse and sale recharge cards? The neighbour who lives opposite the sus­pect said that he was on his way to his house when he sighted Arinze burning some items in front of the house. When he confronted him to know what was going on, he said the suspect was laughing. But when he left th the suspect's compound in not less two hours, residents shouted fire and he was able to join them to stop the fire from burning down the whole house. "When I came into their compound, I saw him burning his siblings' clothes and I thought maybe it could be old clothes not knowing that his father has warned him not to burn his relatives' cloths but he refused and went ahead to do it. I actually left because I thought it was old clothes that he was burning, but after two hours, we saw fire in the house and we all went to rescue the situation. After we stopped the fire and rushed inside the house, we discovered that Arinze`s father was burnt and his head butchered with machete. It was a gory sight," the source said. Narrating what could have led to the suspect fighting with his sick father, another resident who doesn't want her name in print said that she saw Arinze`s father with blood com­ing out from his head and running down his body while his skull was ripped wide open. "His father had al­ways been calling him to order, telling him to obey his mother whenever they sent him (Arinze) on an errand but he always despised him." Sunday Sun learnt that the residents and family of the suspect initially deposited the dead man's body at the mortuary after the incident, but the next day they took the body to his village in Awka, Anambra State for proper burial. A source close to the family revealed that the suspect had ran away from their house and is sus­pected to be hiding within the neigh­bourhood. "My brother, we are still in shock why he killed his father and set him on fire. This is where he got the fuel, from that generator over there (pointing at generator stand) and he moved upstairs and spread the house with the fuel and set it on fire while his father was there. It is an abomina­tion, lamented the neighbour." Frank Onyeachonam was jailed this week in the UK for eight years after he successfully conned vulnerable pensioners out of their life savings with a bogus lottery scam to fund his high life of fast cars, champagne and designer clothes. Jailed Robbers return 10 years later to kill victim's Son in Ebonyi Posted: 06 Jul 2014 09:07 AM PDT     Double misfortune has befallen Okorie Orie, a native of Ibenda Effium in Ohaokwu Local Gov­ernment Area of Ebonyi State, whose son was killed by an unrepentant gang of robbers that had robbed him 10 years earlier. A decade ago, 37-year-old Uchenna Okereke, led six other robbers to rob Okorie Orie, dispossessing him of millions of naira and successfully escaped. But the victim was able to recall the face of Okereke and he correctly identified him to the police, who acted on the information and arrested him. During interrogation, he revealed the identity of the other six members of his gang. They were all tried, convicted and slammed with 10-year jail term, which they served and were subsequently released. For the duration of the jail term, Okereke nursed a grudge, vowing to take vengeance against Orie. Not long after his release from prison, Okereke assembled his gang for the long nursed revenge mission.Sunday Sun gathered from the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Dikko that the gang stormed the home of Orie at about 8.30pm.Recalling the horrible memory of that night his 28-year-old son, Onyekachi Orie was killed in cold blood, Orie told Sunday Sun:  "It was a shock that I can never forget in my life. The suspect, Uchenna Okereke and his gang robbed me of millions of naira 10 years ago and ran away. I was able to remember his face and reported to the police. He was arrested with members of his gang and remanded at Abakaliki Prisons. They were tried and sentenced to jail for 10 years. "Then one night, I was in my house when a dog started barking immediately I sensed danger. I came out and hid myself in a near­by bush. The suspect, Uchenna Okereke and his gang came into the house. I heard him asking my neighbours where my room was and they were shown my room. They saw somebody sleeping on the bed and thought I was the one. They didn't know it was my son who was sleeping on the bed. They just shot him. "From my hiding place, I heard one of the suspects say that the person who they shot was not me but my son. I summoned cour­age when I heard the gunshot and flashed my torchlight at them. I was able to identify the suspects, namely, Uchenna Okereke, Chuk­wuma Ozoemena and Nwabueze Nworu, who killed my son. Immediately I reported to policemen, who promptly arrested the suspects. Ban on Hijab in Lagos schools: Court fixes September 26 for judgment! Posted: 06 Jul 2014 09:12 AM PDT Months after the use of Hijab by female students was banned in all public primary and secondary schools in Lagos State, a Lagos High Court in Ikeja has fixed September 26 to deliver judgment in a suit filed by the Muslim Student Association of Nigeria against the Lagos State Government. Counsel to the students, Mr Gani Adetola-Kaseem in his arguments in court yesterday Friday July 4th maintained that the essence of wearing Hijab by Muslim females is to prevent them from tempting people of the opposite sex or being tempted by them and also to protect their chastity. The lawyer also insisted that it is mandatory for all Muslims who have attained puberty to participate fully in the practice of Islam, including Islamic dressing mode, worship and fasting. He submitted that from the Islamic point of view, womanhood is determined not by biological age or marriage but by the time a person has attained the age of puberty. This age he says varies between individual. Some females attain puberty as early as the age of nine years while others attain puberty at age 13 or more. The lawyer therefore urged the court to grant the application because the position of the Lagos State Government violates the religious rights of the applicants and it is the duty of the court to protect them. In his response, the counsel to the State Government, Mr Lawal Pedro, argued that the wearing of uniforms in public primary and secondary schools is for identification of students from different schools in Lagos and also to encourage a sense of unity, discipline, organisation and orderliness amongst the schools. He also submitted that the clamour and demand for the compulsory use of Hijab on top of the school uniform by Muslim girl students in Lagos is a recent development. Two Muslim students, of Atunrashe Junior High School, Surulere, Lagos State, Miss Asiyat Abdulkareem and Miss Maryam Oyeniyi, had filed the suit through their fathers – Alhaji Owolabi Abdulkareem and Mr. Suleiman Oyeniyi. In the suit, they claimed that the restriction of the use of the Hijab, violates their fundamental human rights. They also argued that banning female students from using Hijab on or outside the premises of any educational institution in Lagos State "is wrongful and unconstitutional". Read Below:  Over 50 terrorists died as troops repelled a daring attack on troops' locations in Damboa, Borno State yesterday night.  The terrorists had stormed the troops' bases and police locations while most of the troops were out on patrol of surrounding villages. A total of 5 soldiers and a senior officer were also killed while repelling the attack. A cordon and search of the locality is ongoing, while the bodies of the fallen soldiers have been recovered and deposited in the military morgue. The wounded are also receiving treatment in the military medical facility. In another development, troops on patrol around Baga area have recovered explosives and rifles concealed in a truck loaded with fish and other commodities. Four suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. When did you father start the gaming business: pools betting and lotto? I grew up to know him in the pools betting business, among them was Face to Face. But currently, I have a problem working with this kind of standard, and my children are asking, 'Daddy, Grandpa took you abroad for summer, and stayed with you, why didn't you do the same for us?' My father is a fantastic man. What are his hobbies? My father neither plays squash nor polo. He enjoys the company of his friends and they play card games such as poker and black jack. The name is an asset but it is also my biggest liability. It is an asset because it opens doors and it gives me special recognition easily. But the flipside is that people tend to expect too much from me. And a lot of things that others will do and go scot-free, I dare not do, because of that name. But I am not complaining, since both liability and asset must go hand-in-hand. What is your dad's favourite food? First, I will say he has tendency for moderation, and he does not have any favourite food. He enjoys both local and international dishes. But he loves vegetable. It must be well prepared with a lot of sawa fish. Does he have special nicknames his friends call him? His long-time friends call him 'Kessy Bobo' and he cherishes it so much. How did Baba Ijebu, that most people call him, evolve? Baba Ijebu is the new nickname. The nickname originates from the lotto business. It has to do with the way he has managed people's resources. That is when someone plays the game and he or she wins, he or she gets instant payment. It is because someone has managed those resources well. And for we Ijebus, there is the general belief that we are good managers of resources. I think that's how that name came about. How does your dad relax? Unfortunately, that's one thing he does not know how to do. It is very painful. He is always doing something. I wish my father could just go somewhere and rest for a while. When he goes on vacation, he carries his work with him. What kind of vacation is that? And he will be phoning the office every three hours to monitor his business back home. You want him to relax more? Yes. At almost 80 years, he deserves to rest. He was 79 years old last October. What are some of his likes and dislikes? My father is like a chief investigating officer. If you tell him lies, you are asking for more trouble. It is better to come clean, because with his intellect and ability to investigate, you will surely surrender. Was he ever a policeman? No. He is just a brilliant man. What values have you imbibed from him? I've learnt the values of hard work, forthrightness and truthfulness from him. If there is anything you can change about your dad, what will it be? The only thing that bothers me about him is that at times he can be too fastidious. He is demanding and sometimes his extent of demand cannot necessarily be the best. If one can get 80 per cent compliant from a human being and one is insisting it should be 100 per cent, it can make things unworkable. One must overlook some things. Your dad took a younger wife, some few years back, how did his children feel about it? The truth is that my dad is a multi-faceted man. And it depends from which area you are looking at him. It is something I will do, so I will be the last person to criticise his action. Every 10 years or thereabout, my father finds a new love. May be for others with his position, stature and resources, such persons may find new love every five years. In my own opinion, my father is not excessive in this aspect. Have you ever played lotto? Yes, I have. It is quite exciting. It is a very exciting way for recreation and it is quite interesting. How many wives does your father have? I know that my father has 12 children from five women.
