Majority of the residents in Kano are not impressed with the new Emir of Kano, thus they have started a protest!

The protest started at the Kofar Kudu area, near the Emir's palace when residents of the neighbouring streets trooped out to the palace area in opposition to the choice.
Tyres were set on fire and few roads blocked as they shouted, "Ba muso, ba muso'', meaning, "we don't want, we don't want" in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government.

ThisDay reports that the road to Government House, Kano, from former Silver Jubilee round-about has been blocked by irate youths with motorists compelled by youths to fix leaves to their windscreens.

Although security forces have been mobilised for crowd dispersal, the riot is still ongoing.

Ronke Sanya looks at the life of Kola Aluko, a Nigerian oil, gas and aviation tycoon who is among the 50 richest Africans according to Forbes. Continue below...

Background

Kolawole Aluko was born in Lagos on 20 October, 1969. His mother is a pharmacist while his father, Chief Akanni Aluko, is a high chief in Ilesa, Osun State. He attended Igbobi College in Lagos. Speaking about his growing up years, Aluko was once quoted, "I was from an early age very ambitious and I always knew I wanted to work for myself."

Business career

Recently, according to Forbes, Seven Energy, a leading energy firm which was co-founded by Aluko, closed a financing round that now values the company at nearly $1 billion. Temasek, the investment holding company owned by the government of Singapore, made a $150 million investment in Seven Energy, a privately-held Nigerian oil and gas exploration company that Aluko co-founded in 2004.

In a press release issued by Seven Energy, the company said it plans to use the funds to develop its growing portfolio of assets in Nigeria.

Aluko founded oil exploration company, Exoro Energy, in 2004 after a successful career in oil trading. That same year, Exoro partnered with Energy Ventures International, a Nigerian subsidiary of Weatherford, a Swiss-based oil and gas servicing firm, to market the latter's exploration and production technology in Nigeria. Energy Ventures subsequently changed its name to Seven Energy, and in 2007, Aluko led a management buy-out of Seven Energy. The company began acquiring Nigerian oil producing assets in 2009. Aluko left the company's management and board in 2011.

According to Forbes, his stake in Seven Energy is not his largest asset. This is his 50% stake in Atlantic Energy, a private upstream Oil and Gas Company that has a very lucrative, Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) with the government-owned Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) in relation to four oil-producing oil blocks – OML 26, OML 30, OML 34 and OML 42. NPDC, which is the operating arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), owns 55 per cent in each of these oil blocks, which collectively produce an average of over 108,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Under the agreement Atlantic Energy currently has with NPDC, Atlantic Energy funds NPDC's share of the operating costs of the four oil blocks by paying the latter's entire cash obligations. In return for funding NPDC's operating and capital activity costs, Atlantic Energy gets back costs, meaning that NPDC pays back to Atlantic Energy the initial money used to finance the operating costs, and also earns 35 per cent of profits on the oil blocks.

Quoting its website, Forbes said Atlantic Energy has spent a little over $500 million on the oil blocks over the last two years. The company is believed to have earned hundreds of millions of dollars from its share of profits during the period. The government-owned NPDC has not reported its share of the profits on the oil blocks it co-owns.

"As a result of his various stakes in oil companies and the profits they have thrown off, Kola Aluko has been on the radar for the annual Forbes Billionaires List and Forbes list of Africa's 50 Richest.

"Aluko, who has recently been in the media spotlight for his closeness to stars like Naomi Campbell and Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio, is also a co-founder of the Made In Africa Foundation, a UK nonprofit that supports and funds master plans and feasibility studies for large scale infrastructure projects across Africa. Avenue in New York and other homes in Abuja and Geneva, Switzerland," said Forbes.

His passion for race cars

According to a post on Nigeriavillagesquare, "Aluko is a passionate motor sports enthusiast. He races and competes in conjunction with Swiss-based Ferrari team, Kessel Racing.

Aluko often cites the racing car driver, Ayrton Senna, as a main inspiration, drawing parallels between racing, business and life in general. When asked on his advice for young entrepreneurs, Aluko said: "The key is focus, focus and again focus. Identify the things you are good at, your strengths, and get to work on your weaknesses. The racing car driver, Ayrton Senna, a man who inspired me greatly, is a good example. Senna was an exceptional driver, however, initially he was terrible in wet conditions, compared to racing in the dry, but he identified his weakness, and so everytime it rained, he jumped into his car, and practised, practised, practised, until he arguably became the best wet weather driver in history."

His love for mansions and yachts

"In June 2012, he was reported to have purchased two luxury ultra-modern estates in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California for $40 million.

He owns a 65-metre Galactica Star Yacht, which is said to cost above $50 million and he lives in his $40 million home in Los Angeles and $8.6 million duplex on Fifth Avenue in New York and other homes in Abuja and Geneva, Swit.

African Pop giants Psquare turned out as the biggest losers at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards, losing three times.

Peter and Paul Okoye lost out in the categories – 'Best Group', 'Song of the Year' (both won by Mafikizolo) and 'Artiste of the Year' (won by Davido).

The Pop duo were also not present at the awards show which held at the International Convention Centre, Durban on June 7, 2014.

Despite releasing chart topping singles like 'Alingo' and 'Personally', Psquare did not drop any album in 2013. They have however announced a new project for 2014, starting with the release of their new single 'Testimony'.

Singer, Kenny Saint Brown Set to venture into Politics in 2015! [PHOTOS]

Kenny Saint Best has revealed plans to contest for a sit at the Lagos State House of Assembly in next year's general assembly. The singer who says she is an APC card carrying member spoke to Thisday on why she is venturing into politics

"I reside in Onigbongbo local government area of Lagos State and for over six years, I've been part of the local government in the area of development. Basically in the area of education, development of the public school and upgrading of public schools in Onigbongbo local government. At the state level, I am the main act at the state children's Christmas party and I was very active during the 2007 elections that brought in Governor Fashola. I've always been quite active in the background in politics, but it was last year that I decided that I can do something about changing the face of youth development in Ikeja and Lagos as a whole. Apart from being a youth coach, youth pastor that requires me to see to the development of the youth, I have a yearning and pull towards the street and seeing that every girl that comes out to hustle on the street at night should have a privilege to become a better citizen, and be given the privilege of better productivity in the areas of what they can do to improve their lives apart from prostitution.

On why she believes politics is the way out for her to influence change, she said;

"Each time I look at it that I'm going into politics, I feel somehow, because of the kind of image politics has in Nigeria, it gives me shivers, I see it more as public service and if I look at it more in the area of seeing to getting people developed, human appreciation, and what I see in my local government, especially the Opebi axis where I reside baffles me. The rise of prostitution has gone up by almost 1000%, it never used to be this bad. Back then, you can count the number of girls you see on one hand, but now especially at that Peka's junction it seems like a trailer comes to offload them for the night from 7pm. It looks like the street is pulling them more and more all because of money, and what they do depreciates humanity. I think there can be a change, something can be introduced to these girls and let them know that there's a gift on the inside of them that can improve their personality and make money with their body by working hard without having to dehumanise themselves. So really it's the area of human productivity that's really pulling me into public service, and that's why I need to get on a platform to get the job done and if that platform is called politics, then, maybe, you can call me a politician (laughs).

The singer says contrary to popular opinion, she isn't going into politics to make money.

"Am I broke? Am I poor? I've been blessed, because what most people are still praying for and still have on their list of prayer requests I've been given. So if it is money that's driving me, it would kill me because I would see so much money and die. If it's just money, then I'm not going to be fulfilled" she said

Lessons From Akunyili’s Life: How Akunyili’s Sickness Started&How She Got Into Power Because Of Her Honesty!

When Mrs. Dora Nkem Akunyili was the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund in 1998, Nigerian doctors gave her what many of her family members considered to be a health scare. They said she had a growth and needed surgery

Akunyili, then 44, decided to travel to the United States, first to get a second opinion and then undergo the prescribed surgery. The bill for the medical trip was $17,000, including $12,000 for the surgery.

An expert in Concierge Medicine said $12000 even 15 years ago would barely scratch the surface to do a full concierge medicine and work-up even before treatment.

During pre-surgery check-up in the US, the doctors told her the Nigerian experts had made a wrong diagnosis and that she did not need any surgery. It was said to be a minor issue that medication would solve. She thanked the doctors and, to their surprise, said she was going to return the money meant for the surgery to the PTF. That was strange! Nigerian government officials had devised a way of making sure such monies were not returned to the treasury.

The hospital informed the PTF, under the leadership of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, about one honest Nigerian they had found. Buhari, himself a straightforward person, was very impressed. He wrote a letter to Akunyili commending her honesty.

Then, came 2001 when President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to appoint a director-general for the National Agency for Drug and Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and asked for the recommendation of an honest Nigerian pharmacist. Akunyili's name promptly came up. Someone who had heard about her PTF record recommended her.

There was a little problem, a Nigerian problem. Objections were raised that the Minister of Health, Prof. ABC Nwosu, was an Igbo from Anambra State and NAFDAC, being a powerful agency under the ministry, should not be headed by another Anambran.

It was also argued that the market for fake and substandard products were controlled by the Igbo, with Onitsha – also in Anambra State – a major centre for the illicit business. She was going to protect "her people", the antagonists said.

Obasanjo, stubborn to the cause, ignored the observations and appointed her. She went on to do a credible job and ended up as one of the most outstanding public officers in Nigeria's history, celebrated locally and globally.
She had lost a sister to fake drugs, and that was perhaps the impetus she needed to go on the offensive.

Meanwhile, Akunyili always went abroad for check-ups and she was always given an all-clear. She continued to look robust and energetic, and took up another government job as Minister of Information and communications.
But on July 13, 2013, something strange happened to her. She was preparing to travel to the United States to receive an award. The following day was her birthday. Her 59th, precisely. Then she fell ill. She was physically weak and having pains. She decided to go ahead with her trip and attend to her health in the United States.
It was while she was there that new checks were carried out. Alas, she had cancer. The original diagnosis in 1998 was right. But the diagnosis at the point of surgery was wrong.

She became seriously ill and there were fears she could lose her life. She was in the hospital for months and only returned to Nigeria this year when the doctors said she was improving.

Her last public appearance was at the National Conference in Abuja, where she was a delegate. Pictures of a frail-looking Akumyili soon went viral on the internet.

According to TheCable, the type of cancer could not be ascertained, but there are several reports pinpointing cervical.

Globally, cervical cancer is the second most common and the fifth deadliest cancer in women, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Akunyili died on June 7, 2014 in India after surviving many death rumours.

I have not said so. What I mean is that you must be rich enough to take care of me. Now that does not mean you must have excess money. If you are comfortable, at least, that's good enough.

Why can't you date an average guy?

A witness to the sad incident sent the story...but we are going to leave out the name of the church and the pastor who dedicated the baby, because the authenticity of the story haven't been verified, but the person who sent the story swears this happened.
The story below...

"The story is about a couple who attends a church around the IPO axis in Lagos. The name of the Church is (name withheld) opposite the MTN mast in Baruwa around Ipaja area of Lagos State. The Pastor whose name is (name withheld) dedicated a baby on sunday 1st June, 2014 and the baby (pictured above) died right there in the church.

It was an unusual thing to have seen a pastor dedicating a baby without carrying the baby on his hand. What the Pastor did was to sprinkle oil and he prayed without even touching the baby. When someone who was invited by the couple, Godwin and Amaka Mark asked them why the pastor wasn't carrying the baby, they stated that it was a norm in that church for babies to be dedicated in that manner. Soon after the benediction, the Pastor disappeared from the church and when the parents of the dead baby realized that their child was no more breathing, they called the pastor on his mobile phone.

The pastor refused to come back to the church stating that he had already taken off his clothes. He was further told that the baby which he had just dedicated was dead and his response was, "it is well"!

The bereaved parents had to go and bury their dead child with the assistance of the invited guests.

The following day, the pastor sent some people to pay a condolence visit to the bereaved couple. When the mother of the dead baby, she expressed her displeasure over to the Pastor's actions, the emissary went back to inform the pastor.

The pastor has threatened to sue Mrs Amaka Mark if she does not retract her statement within 7days.
Mr and Mrs Mark made it very clear to the pastor that they were ready for any legal tussle with him. Now the pastor has been pleading with the couple in order not to make it public.

Female suicide bomber attacks military facility in Gombe State! [PHOTO]

According to unconfirmed reports coming from Gombe state, a woman suicide bomber detonated a bomb this morning along Military Quarter Guard in Biu Road in Gombe State, killing herself. The bomb, which the woman was reportedly carrying in her purse, went off before she got to the Quarter Guard believed to be her target. Eye-witnesses believe that the bomb went off prematurely. There are reports that one soldier died in the explosion but there have so far been no official confirmation.

Billionaire Businessman Mike Adenuga sprays N30m Cash to attendees at his birthday party! [PHOTOS]

This is not a made up story. It has been confirmed by several people who attended the birthday party of billionaire businessman Mike Adenuga which took place on Friday May 30th at his home in Banana Island.

It was an intimate family setting of about 90 people, including senior members of Glo and Conoil. The birthday party was hosted by Basketmouth. Lagbaja, Seyi Law, Gordons, Helen Paul, Bovi, God Bless Band and Flavour all performed. Above is a personal appreciation message from the celebrant himself to comedian Seyi Law for giving a good performance.
According to sources, Mike Adenuga was so excited at his party that he did something he rarely does, he danced. And then he sprayed nothing less than N30million to performers and guests on the dance floor.
He sprayed GodBless Band N2million & sprayed several bundles of $10,000 per person

'Kefee Needs a Miracle to Survive' - Doctor!

According to a new report on Tribune, the chances of Kefee getting out of coma is slim as her situation not only requires prayers for survival, but also a miracle as the musician has been diagnosed as having pre-eclampsia – pregnancy induced high blood pressure.

Six-month pregnant Kefee had embarked on a 14-hour flight to Chicago for an event but went into coma, forcing the plane to land in Los Angeles so that she could be urgently attended to. A source told Tribune during a phone conversation:

"Kefee surely did not know that she had a high blood pressure before she embarked on the long trip and suddenly went into coma in the air. That she is pregnant has made her situation dicey, so she will need a miracle to survive, a doctor told me",

Meanwhile, a medical doctor in Nigeria, Dr Adeyefa, shedding more light on Kefee's condition, said:

"Kefee is in a precarious situation because of the six months pregnancy. If the foetus had been nine months, the doctors would have removed the baby and saved the mother and child. As it is now, not only will the baby not survive because the carrier is in coma, Kefee may also lose her life from further complications. The chances of the mother surviving is narrow, while the kid has a narrower chance. I urge Nigerians to pray for her for a miracle because that is what she really needs," he added.

Popular Nollywood costumier Lizzy Ogbodo has died this morning in Enugu. Lizzy who has been treating typhoid and malaria for some time now was found lying lifeless on the staircase to her apartment by her neighbour after she collapsed. She is survived by three grown kids.

Here is how her friend and actress, Ejiro Okurame puts it; "Lizzy was treating typhoid and malaria since end of May. Her neighbour saw her collapsed body on the stairs to her home in Enugu and rushed her to the hospital (Niger foundation) but her Blood pressure was very high, she was in coma for 3days with oxygen before she was even taken to another hospital for CT brain test, where doctors were waiting for her to come out from coma before treating her well or do brain surgery till she died by 2am on Saturday morning…she's like a sister to me and Mama G, we have been in tears since the incident. She is survived by 3kids who are currently in the university."

Who wants Stella Damasus dead? Assassins Storm Daniel Ademinokan's home In Abuja Demanding for Stella Damasus!

Who wants Stella Damasus dealt with?! Because in the early hours of May 31, about 12 heavily armed men reportedly stormed Daniel Ademinokan's Abuja home where Stella Damasus and her two daughters were said to have been living before they relocated to the United States with Ademinokan.

For obvious reason, Nollywood actress Stella Damasus and her alleged lover, Daniel Ademinokan, a movie director, seem not to have been sleeping with their two eyes closed in recent times.

Evidence that the two Nollywood stars, who are currently based in the U.S., may be living in fears emanated recently when the star actress posted some tweets, which have been giving her fans a serious concern.

Earlier in the week, she had tweeted: "No form of political bullying or intimidation will work! You can't shut me up! I will stand and speak the truth, regardless of your tactics."

As if that was not enough, she followed up with another tweet: "That is what Nigeria is known for; you say the truth…they try to silence you! It will not work on Stella Damasus. I cannot be intimidated."

Though attempts by The Nation to speak with the actress were fruitless, a source close to the duo revealed that it might not be unconnected with her recent comments on the goings-on in Nigeria, a situation that may have put her in this seeming dangerous situation.

Before leaving Nigeria, Stella was very active with Project Alert, a non-governmental organisation set up to fight domestic violence as well as her advocacy for sanity during the 'Child Not Bride' campaign.

It will be recalled that, at the height of the campaign, she released a very daring video on YouTube, calling a particular serving Senator and his supporters paedophiles.

A few weeks ago, after the abduction of over 200 girls from Chibok, Stella released another video addressing the government and accusing it of not asking for help from foreign allies.

Against this backdrop, The Nation gathered that, in the early hours of May 31, about 12 heavily armed men stormed the Abuja home of Ademinokan, where the actress and her two daughters were said to have been living before they relocated to the United States with Ademinokan.

According to the source, Ademinokan's younger brother, who just returned to Nigeria, and his mother were the only persons in the house on the fateful day.

It was gathered that the attackers insisted on getting Stella's recent contact in the US, including her address and phone number, without success.

The source said: "The men kept yelling at Daniel's brother. They were saying, 'Your brother and his wife think they can just open their mouths and say anything they like about the government, abi?'"

The assailant, according to the source, didn't take anything item away from the house because of the pathetic condition of Ademinokan's mother, who is laid up with a stroke.
