Couple Welcome Quadruplets After Successful Infertility Treatment in Lagos

Helen, 31, and Bernard, 40, welcomed a set of quadruplets - three girls and a boy - in Lagos using Artificial Insemination, a form of Assisted Reproductive Therapy (ART). The couple had been diagnosed as infertile at the Medical ART Centre, Lagos when a series of tests found lack of ovulation and polycystic ovarian disorder in the wife and male factor infertility in the husband.

Helen and Bernard have said that the journey to welcoming their babies began in August 2013 when they visited the infertility clinic and got diagnosed as borderline infertile. They received their first Artificial Insemination procedure in October and it turned out to be an abounding success.

Bernard said he and his wife commenced treatment immediately after the diagnosis to address their indicated fertility challenges.

"My wife was about 30 years of age at that time, and I was 39. We had been desperately looking for help to achieve pregnancy and successful childbirth after four years of marriage with no babies."

The couple recounted to the Vanguard's health column that in October 2013, they were put through a two-level procedure called the fallopian tube sperm perfusion (artificial insemination).

"It involves washing and processing of the sperm before injection into the fallopian tube. The initial perfusion was done by Dr. Chisara Okeke, and the second was done by Dr Jaiyeola Adeyemi – both IVF physicians at the Centre."

Helen went home but returned to the Centre two weeks later and was confirmed positive by the Beta HCG (bHCG) pregnancy test. She said it was to her delight and amazement, two weeks after the perfusion, that result of the pregnancy test came out positive.

"It was the happiest moment of my life to discover I was pregnant. Five days later, the following week,a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Fertility/IVF Specialist, Dr. 'Kemi Ailoje Ibru, performed series of ultrasound scans and found that there were four gestational sacs, meaning I was carrying four babies."

Helen recalled that the doctor was doing the scans one at a time and each time an additional sac was found, it meant another baby.

"It got to a stage, my husband and I requested that the scans should be discontinued just in case more babies were to be discovered. By the 10th week, I was transferred to to the MART Medicare for antenatal care."

Speaking on the medical feat, the Group Medical Director/CEO, Medical ART Centre, Professor Oladapo Ashiru said the initial scan post positive test was done to determine the position of the implantation.

"One week later another scan was done to confirm gestation, which showed twin gestation. The 7th week scan showed triplet gestation and by eight weeks, the quadruplet gestation was confirmed. "She was managed at MART Medical Art Center high risk/multiple pregnancy care unit, and was transferred to MART Medicare from the 10th week for continued routine monitoring".

Ashiru, an experienced endocrinologist and joint pioneer of IVF in Nigeria and West Africa, explained that at the MART Medicare, Helen's case was taken over by three consultant obstetrician/gynaecologists led by Dr. Lateef Akinola, Dr. Moses Olusanjo, and Dr. Seun Makewu. The trio carefully monitored her antenatal care till the 16th week when a cervical cerclage was inserted under spinal anestethestic to ensure that her cervix was intact.

"By the 20th week, the patient was brought in to admission at the maternity ward of MART Medicare so that she could rest and prevent early miscarriage. She was readmitted at 20 weeks for close monitoring and plan of delivery. At 33 weeks, she had elective Caesarean Section by a team of specialists led by Drs. Akinola and Olusanjo and a team which included two anesthetics, two obstetricians, four neonatologists and theatre nurses. The quadruplets were delivered in about three minutes beginning at 9am. First to come was a female, 1.35 kg followed by the boy, 1.25kg, then a female 1.2 kg and another female 0.90 kg," 

The mother was awake all through the procedure - the anasthetic was spinal - and she could hear her babies crying as the medical team delivered the babies one after the other. All babies are alive and well.

This is grear news and big congrats to the couple!

Two 12-Year-Old Girls Charged as Adults for Brutally Stabbing Classmate 19 Times

Two 12-year-old girls have been charged with attempted homicide and will be tried as adults, after allegedly stabbing their classmate 19 times all over the body. The victim, another twelve year old, is in stable condition in the hospital though some of the stab wounds hit vital organs. The three girls all went to the same school, and were friends, the victim called one of her attackers, her best friend. *shivers*


The police chief in the area where this happened is now pleading with parents to know what their children are doing and reading online, and I couldn't agree more.

"Both suspects had a fascination with a fictitious character that often posted to a website that is a collection of small stories about death and horror. Parents should not be allowing their children to have unrestricted or unmonitored internet usage –whether it be on their computer on their smart phone on their PlayStation. All of those accesses to the outside world," Chief Jack said.

It is unfortunate that where news like this suggest we should be limiting children's access to the internet for their own protection, Facebook today revealed plans to get children younger than 14 onto the social network. Parents please be extra vigilant.

The criminal complaint in the case says on Saturday, May 31st, a citizen called Waukesha police to report a stabbing — after locating a girl on the sidewalk in the area of Rivera Drive and Big Bend Road.
The girl told the man: "Help me, I've been stabbed."
The man called 911 and tried to apply pressure to her wounds — and stayed until the Fire Department arrived.

When officials spoke with the stabbing victim, she told them she was stabbed in the woods by her best friend, Morgan Geyser.
The victim suffered 19 stab wounds — and was rushed into surgery at the hospital.
Doctors at the hospital reported she was "lucky to be alive".
"One suspect held the victim down while the other suspect stabbed her 19 times in the arms, legs and torso. Many of the stab wounds struck major organs. But, incredibly and thankfully, the victim survived this brutal assault," Chief Jack said.
Police then spoke with Weier — who spoke about a website called "CreepyPasta."

Weier explained this was a website that talked about horror stories — and people can create their own stories.
It is on this website that Weier told police she learned about "Slenderman" — the leader of CreepyPasta. Just below Slenderman is the killer. Just below the killer is the proxy. In order to be a proxy, Weier explained, you have to kill someone — to show your dedication to Slenderman.

Weier told police many people do not believe Slenderman is real — and she said she wanted to prove the skeptics wrong.
Weier introduced Morgan Geyser to the CreepyPasta website

In December of 2013 or January of 2014, Geyser told Weier — "We should become proxies of Slender." Weier told police she said: "Okay, how do we do that?"
That's when Weier told police Geyser said they needed to kill the victim in this case to prove themselves worthy to Slender

In February, the girls decided they would kill the victim in this case on May 30th.
The girls were able to learn that "Slender" lives in a mansion in the Nicolet National Park — and the girls planned to kill the victim — and then walk to Slender's mansion and become one of his proxies.

On May 30th after school, Weier and Geyser packed up some items, and then Weier, Geyser, the victim and Geyser's father went to Skateland until about 9:30 p.m.
The girls went to sleep in Geyser's room — and there was apparently a plan to kill the victim when she was sleeping — around 2:00 a.m.
However, the plan apparently changed.

The next morning, May 31st, the girls decided to go to Davids Park – and Weier told police Geyser grabbed a knife from the house before they went to the park.

The girls took the victim into a bathroom at the park — and Geyser handed Weier the knife.

Weier told Geyser she "couldn't do it" — and handed the knife back to Geyser, who then apparently had a nervous breakdown and Weier had to calm her down.

Later, the girls began to walk outside in the park — and that's when Weier suggested they kill the victim in the woods.

The girls decided to play hide-and-seek in the woods near Big Bend Road, south of Rivera Drive — and that game led to the stabbing.

Initially, Weier sat on the victim — restraining her, so that Geyser could stab her — but Weier worried that the victim's yelling would attract attention, and she got off of the victim.

Geyser tackled the victim and started stabbing her — and eventually, the victim tried walking toward the street — but the girls tried directing her away from the street.

The girls left the scene and walked to Walmart on S. West Avenue.
"The suspects left the area on foot. The victim was able to crawl out of the woods onto the roadway near the end of Big Bend Road," Chief Jack said.

Police spoke with Geyser. She was asked who stabbed the victim, and Geyser said "both of us."

Geyser told police she thinks Weier stabbed the victim first — and then Weier put the knife in her hand, and she stabbed the victim.

Geyser told police Weier was very prepared to go with the plan to kill the victim — but Geyser told police she herself found many flaws in the plan. Geyser also told police Weier had many plans — and it was hard to keep track of all of them.

When asked why they did what they did, Geyser told police they had to, or he would kill their family. When asked who "he" was, Geyser said she did not know him.

Neither of the girls felt much remorse over what happened when speaking with police.

Geyser reportedly told police: "It was weird that I didn't feel remorse" — and Weier said: "The bad part of me wanted her to die. The good part of me wanted her to live."

The knife was recovered after the girls were taken into custody. It was apparently in a purse that was sitting between the two girls.

Weier's father reported a knife missing from his residence.

The victim in this case remains in stable condition with multiple stab wounds.

Student Commits Suicide After She’s Caught Cheating, Here are Some Lessons For Parents

Omotayo Adeoye, above, a 17 year old Nigerian-American student went missing last week Thursday after she jumped off the George Washington Bridge and into the Hudson River. Omotayo, a student of High School of Mathematics and Science, had been caught by her class teacher cheating during a German language exam.

She didn't finish the test, but wrote a suicide note on her test paper. "I just want to go away forever on the bottom of the river," she wrote, and then she left the class, going directly to the bridge where she jumped.

Some have blamed the teacher for being too hard on the student, while others say parents who have overly high expectations of their children are to be blamed. This is the 14th suicide of a student according to a Department of Education in America, and they think there may have been some mental health issues involved on the part of Adeoye.

I think this is too sensitive a time to trade blames, but no doubt, there can be lessons for everyone, especially parents. Below are some really cogent points from parents and made on the comment thread by Harrison Nwozo, a friend I respect on Facebook.

Nini Okey-Uche - It is absolutely wrong to blame the teacher! Stop it! Adeoye did wrong. Period. You can not decide to do something as undignified as cheating and complain about humiliation when caught. The issue is why would that cause her to decide to commit suicide???? It's a sad story and I wish her family strength and her soul rest. However, we need to ponder over what her life values and value for life were. What faith did she profess? Did her parents bring her up to know that suicide was unthinkable and forbidden by God??? It's a sad story but here are the lessons: 1. Students, study and never cheat. 2. If you break rules, know that you also risk breaking your pride and dignity. 3. Teachers, when rules are broken, apply the necessary actions and punishment without any song and dance or shouting match. Adeoye should have been walked out of the exam hall so as not to distract others and given the necessary punishment. Gbam. 4. Parents, bring up your kids right, in the fear of God 5. Everyone, please know that suicide is a cowardly and ungodly act.

Nyanti Prince Nyanti - I concur with the speakers that said we should stop blaming the teacher! U see! Real teaching begins at home. Did her parent says to her a hard fought B's & C's is not so bad given she gives her best? Everyday on Facebook we flaunts our kids honor roll certificates. Will we do the same if it has only B's and C's. We have our kids believing they too can be accepted in all 8 Ivy League colleges like that Ghanian kid. But what he has accomplished is so extraordinary and only few will do that and that's fine. Do we even ask our kids what they want to do? Most not all African parent like to dictate to their kids what they will do or become. My dad says I'm his fave only because of what I used to do in the classroom. My plead to this new generation of parents is for us to do it differently! Let's nurture the interests our kids show and stop telling them what we see them doing. We have so many miserable successful people because of this!!

Her teacher, Eva Malikova, "was walking around the room and saw [Adeoye] on her phone," a male classmate said.

"She snatched it away from her and started screaming at her, 'Oh, you shouldn't be cheating! You guys shouldn't be cheating! You guys are lying to yourselves!' "

Adeoye burst into tears, sobbing, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"

"Oh, you are not really sorry," Malikova allegedly snapped back. "That's not a sincere apology!"

Law-enforcement sources confirmed the classroom exchange.

At around 2:15 p.m., a teary-eyed Adeoye scrawled her desperate note on the test, then asked to use the bathroom.

She never returned — instead walking from the West 140th Street school to the Hudson River's edge at West 165th Street.

Shocked fishermen watched helplessly as she placed her ID on a rock, then jumped in the water.

Adeoye — whose father told cops she can't swim — ignored their cries to go ashore, the witnesses told cops.

She appeared to be forcing herself down, they said.

Her head bobbed briefly above the surface before she was completely submerged.

Dear Myne ... I saw ur post on breakups, it's really wonderful. I am about to quit a four-year relationship. I am a graduate of Philosophy from Unilag. I graduated about four years ago. I met this guy when I was in 300level. I showed my affection to him first. The problem started during my fourth year; he failed a course and as a medical student he had to go back or change department.

Being a very brilliant chap, he found it so difficult to do either. Despite my efforts to encourage him to find a way to continue, he could not finish the programme; he left the school. I used to assure him of my love and support. However, things are not going as planned for me too; I still do not have a good job. My plan was to get married to him if I could get a job with good salary. Same with his plan of travelling abroad, that one is not working out also. He wrote TOEFL and passed but has not got an admission.

In a nutshell, What I can observe is stagnancy. He keeps telling me all will be fine but no action. I am now a 27year old woman and I really wish to be married dis year. Please what do I do? I'm tired of the guy and the relationship.We've had nothing to celebrate. I'm dying pschologically.

Couple Who Lost $50M Lotto Max Ticket Finally Get Money, Friend Returned it on April Fools Day

Hakeem Nosiru, originally from Nigeria, and now living in Canada, put the $50-million Lotto Max winning ticket in an envelope and taped it to his body for safekeeping. However, between the Saturday Jan 17 of the TV show with the announcement of winners, and the Monday when he could present the ticket to the lottery officials, the ticket was lost! "I couldn't sleep for days, I couldn't eat," said Abiola Nosiru. "I was devastated."

Then came April 1st, and a phone call from a member of her church who said "April Fool!"

"When I realized I lost the ticket, I was frantic." Ms. Nosiru said. "My grandchildren were playing with my purse while we were all at church…. it must have somehow slipped out!"

When the ticket was validated at a Brampton convenience store, "I ran up and down the aisles of the store crying with excitement," Mr. Nosiru said. "Everyone was congratulating me and patting me on the back."

After a standard investigation, the OLG rewarded the couple with their $50-million winnings on Monday.

Ms. Nosiru doesn't know if the finder was aware that the ticket had won the jackpot and isn't sure what they might do to reward her "because my thinking is all over the place right now."


As for how they will spend the money, they plan to take care of their four children and five grandchildren and "see several wonders of the world." But don't expect anything flamboyant, she said.

"Right now I can't say much because I'm too overwhelmed."

Asked how she told her husband that she had lost the winning ticket, Ms. Nosiru said: "I can't even tell him because I thought he's going to shoot me."

Her husband was more philosophical. "The only thing I said to her was 'God giveth, God taketh. If we find it, OK. If we don't find it I'll call [OLG] and will let them know the ticket was lost.'"

He did supply receipts to the OLG, so the investigation may have concluded they were the valid winners even in the absence of a ticket.

Ms. Nosiru did offer some advice to future lottery winners.

"Please keep your ticket in a safe place and watch it all night. And sign it. And if you can tape it to your body like my husband did on that Saturday …. He said whoever wants to take this ticket has to kill me."

Newlyweds Get Into Fight At Honeymoon Hotel, Spend Their Wedding Night in Jail

A bride and groom spent their first night as a married couple in jail after being arrested by police at a Manchester hotel following a brawl at the Hilton hotel where they intended to begin their honeymoon. The couple reportedly started quarelling with hotel staff as they tried to check in.


Staff had to call for extra help from security guards, and the 25-year-old groom, wearing his wedding suit, then allegedly attacked a security guard, cutting his face in the fight. The bride, also still in her wedding dress, was accused of shouting racist abuse at the guards, who were Asian.

The cellphone photograph of the alleged matrimonial misbehaviour above was taken by a bystander in a taxi.

The witness said: "The bride had a cigarette in her mouth. I couldn't see the groom.

"It looked like the police were trying to calm her down."

The groom was arrested on suspicion of assault while his wife was held on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. They were taken to the local police station, where they spent the night in separate cells.

Nick Adderley, Chief Superintendent of Greater Manchester Police's North Division said his officers made the right decision. He said: "Police officers were asked attend and we did so.

"We then obviously had to pain over the decision whether it was right thing to do to arrest.

"But it absolutely was and I support the officers who made that decision.

"We can't have a situation where, regardless of what ceremony they have been to, people are being allegedly assaulted and racially abused."

Father Refused Entry Back Home After Toddler Defaces Passport With Scribbles While Traveling

I saw this picture on Facebook and couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry. I know for sure if I were the father, I wouldn't be laughing. A Chinese father took his family on a trip to North Korea but on their way back, he refused entry into China because his four year old child had defaced the identity page of his passport.


The child had cancelled out his name and many other aspects of the passport details by drawing abstract characters on the page using a pen. In addition to that, the toddler had also added extra features to his dad's face, including a full beard, larger eyes, etc...

The picture got on the internet after the stranded father posted the photo on Chinese networking site,weibo, begging for help. He is currently trying to obtain a new passport before he would be allowed to get back into China

What would you do if you were the father? That is when you finally get home? Someone I asked said the boy deserves time out or some spanking, but isn't it the parent that should have taken better care of such a sensitive document as their passport?

Rihanna in See-Through Gown at the CFDA Awards - Nudity As Art And Fashion

And she was dressed for the event in a custom made Adam Selman outfit - a see-through gown embellished with swarovski crystals. She wore no bra, and only a nude-colored thong underwear and a feathered boa protected her modesty.
