| Panic As Man Calls Himself Boko Haram Member In Lagos Bank! [PHOTO] Posted: 31 May 2014 10:18 AM PDT  The 27-year-old alleged mad man is currently facing disorderly conduct for causing panic at a branch of Stanbic IBTC Bank in Lagos. The prosecutor, Cpl. Olanrewaju Balogun, told the court that Mokwe committed the offence at about 9:00 a.m. at the Agungi-Lekki branch of the bank. Balogun said the accused caused panic and confusion among customers and bankers in the banking hall by publicly professing to be a member of Boko Haram insurgents. According to him, the accused walked into the banking hall ostensibly for a transaction, but started shouting: "I am a Boko Haram member". He alleged that the accused also wrote 'Boko-Haram' on the teller in his hand. "The accused was immediately taken out of the banking hall by security guards, who handed him over to the authorities. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of N10,000 with a surety in like sum. The case has been put over till June 18th, 2014 for hearing. | Senator Bola Tinubu Set To become Nigeria's Next President, Changes Plans! Posted: 31 May 2014 08:56 AM PDT  Former Lagos State Governor and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu may have reviewed his career progression and resolved to go for the nation's top job, the presidency. Tinubu, believed to be initially interested in the nation's vice presidency is said to have concluded plans to announce his bid for the presidency immediately after the party's national convention slated to hold between June 13 and 14 in Abuja, the nation's capital. The APC leader, who is said not to be taking chances about his presidential bid, sources say, has tipped a former senator in the state, Tokunbo Afikuyomi, as the Director-General of his campaign organisation. According to sources, Tinubu has resolved not to be left out in the emerging dispensation and was prepared to give it his best shot possible, especially in the wake of the opposition that greeted his alleged vice presidential ambition through the pairing of a Muslim/Muslim ticket. This latest move, inside sources however claimed, was designed as a bargaining chip to eventually clinch the slot for the vice-president, since it was most likely that the presidential slot would go to the north. One of the sources told THISDAY that Tinubu was very displeased with the way his vice presidential ambition through a Muslim/Muslim ticket was exposed, hence his resolve to take his ambition a notch up by eyeing the presidency. His decision to give the presidential bid a shot, another source said may not be unconnected with the possibility that he could sell out if nothing works in his favour, hence a move that would make it even more difficult for the party leadership to push him aside. Tinubu is said to have seen clearly, certain indications that he and some other notable members of the APC might be played out by the younger elements in the party at the June convention and since there might be nothing left for him, he has therefore come up with a 'Plan B' in order to survive the turn of events. Although one of the sources was not sure how Tinubu intends to pull through both the presidential ambition and the vice presidency since he might be knocked out in both categories, albeit on different grounds that are considered trite. The source said while the presidential bid looks impossible because of the fact that the party has agreed in principle to zone it to the north where a Muslim candidate is most likely to emerge, his vice presidential bid is literally impossible on the grounds of religion. But a recalcitrant Tinubu is said to have continued with his plans, regardless of misgivings and would soon announce his presidential ambition with Afikuyomi leading the campaign group as the director-general. According to sources, the choice of Afikuyomi was borne out of the need for someone who understood the politics of the SDP/NRC (Social Democratic Party and National Republican Convention) days and has built contacts across board to help sell his candidacy and sustain the momentum. Aside that, Afikuyomi was believed to have come through as his choice DG because the former senator from Lagos Central and West is believed to boast the kind of energy, networking and experience required to execute a project as huge as a presidential election. These are some of the moves the former Lagos governor is said to be making in the bid to remain relevant both now and in the experience after. But they are moves observers believe would further unsettle the party and set it on a collision course if mismanaged. Tinubu was recently reported as pondering a Muslim/Muslim ticket that could feature him and a former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari in next year's presidential election, a consideration that has since drawn the ire of party members and opposition alike. Not long after came the indications that he might lose out in the current effort at structuring the party, a development some party members feared could lead to Tinubu selling out in next year's election like he was believed to have done in 2011. But many of the observers believe that the truly defining intrigues would not start to manifest in the party until the outcome of its national convention and Tinubu's alleged ambition declaration. Because many of your predecessors now litter the streets, parties, churches and workplaces of London complaining to everyone, including complete strangers, about how they were tricked by men into "coming to suffer in jand." This is one area where ignorance is grief, not bliss. And so, if you have a bobo in Jand who is asking you to come over and join him in paradise, here are specific signs you have to look for, to be sure that his net worth equals his current bed-worth. 1. HIS HOUSE He says he lives in London; don't get all relaxed because no be like dat. Ask him where exactly, and try to visit, or ask him to show you around via Skype. If he lives in a council flat you'll know; they often look somewhat like 1004 flats, with none of the prestige or famous tenants like Tiwa Savage. Why the electoral roll? Because it not only confirms the address, it shows that the bobo has some claim to Jand. To be on the electoral roll, you have to be a British citizen or a UK resident. Even better is to google the dates of elections in Jand and ask him in conversation if he will vote, then proceed to shriek with delight and tell him to take a selfie with his letter of notification. If you are visiting, sift through his post…you will see such documents and then you can breathe. 4. MOBILE PHONE TINZ Finally, take note during those long calls he makes to you in Nigeria where he says he loves you more than his mother. If he continues to complain about "network," innocently ask him what service provider he uses. If he says 02, Vodafone, EE then all is well. The minute he says "Lebara," then be aware you may have a stingy cheapskate on your hands. Lebara is some provider that gives free minutes to Nigeria and is basically for the masses, who only tolerate the shitty network because of the "1,000 free minutes." If he is so keen on CUTTING COSTS that he sticks with Lebara then he is probably CUTTING SHOWS and using the free minutes to call other ladies because they do free minutes to Ghana as well. Just saying. And regarding the actual handset, be wary of any guy who visits Nigeria with tons of phones for sale, which all need unlocking. Clearly he has taken out numerous contracts on those phones and is living off credit. The best kind of guys in jand buy their gadgets upfront, with no fuss, no debt. You gerrit?. If you visit, check for such contracts and bills. You might as well keep an eye out for bank statements because you can't go wrong with those. Again, you can also quickly look at the type of grocery bags in the house. If they are from Waitrose and M&S, then marry the guy. If his bags show he shops at ASDA and Morissons, there's potential. For those who only shop at Poundland and Iceland, I suggest you do an Usain Bolt, except you are NOT allergic to poverty CONCLUSION So, there you have it, ladies. | Boko Haram Runs out of Food supply! Posted: 31 May 2014 06:53 AM PDT  Saturday PUNCH investigations revealed that the violent Islamic sect had in the past week stepped up the looting of villages, markets and food stores in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states for food items including grains and bread. Residents of these communities told SaturdayPUNCH that the rate at which the insurgents stole their foodstuffs was unprecedented, noting that the pressure to feed the abducted girls might have contributed to the desperation of the insurgents to steal and kill the villagers in the process. One of the villagers, Bukar Umar, who resides in Kamuyya village in Borno State, told one of our correspondents that though it was normal for the insurgents to ask communities to contribute money towards "God's work,'' they were usually satisfied when communities raised money for them. He, however, said the insurgents in recent times had stepped up their activities by invading their communities and carting away food items. With the pressure on Nigerian soldiers to clamp down on the Islamic sect, it was learnt that the insurgents no longer felt safe to go to markets to buy food items for fear of being arrested. Some of the insurgents recently met their waterloo in Madagali, Adamawa State, where they were given up by a local food vendor from whom they had planned to buy foodstuffs. Consequently, members of a vigilance group pounced on them and killed over 70 of them while seven others were reportedly handed over to the police. The vigilantes acted after they were tipped by the local food vendor that the insurgents were coming to get food before going for a major operation in a neighbouring village. A Madagali resident, who did not want his name mentioned, had said, "The vigilance group mobilised, laid ambush and waited patiently for the insurgents. "As soon as the insurgents, numbering over 100, showed up in the village to pick up their favourite meals, the vigilantes attacked them, killing most of them in a hail of bullets." Security personnel, during the week, also repelled attacks by the terrorists on Kubla, a border town between Adamawa and Borno states. A security source said, "The heavily armed terrorists arrived in Kubla and started burning houses and stealing foodstuff, until a contingent of the military was mobilised to confront them. "The soldiers engaged the militants in a fierce exchange of gunfire to repel them," the source said. The source, who did not disclose his name because he was not authorised to provide details of the attacks, added that the insurgent had set to extend their stealing spree to Taraba State. Residents of Limankara, Kamuyya, Kirenowa, Kimba and Makor communities in Borno State said the insurgents usually carte away food items and livestock after killing people in their areas in recent attacks. In Limankara, a Borno border village with Adamawa State, the insurgents who killed many persons and carted away property worth several millions of Naira were said to have particularly gone for the available food items in the village. In Kamuyya village, a resident, Bukar Umar, said over 20 insurgents, who must have emerged from the bush, stormed the Kamuyya weekly market when traders were conducting their businesses and opened fire into the crowd before setting shops and vehicles on fire. According to him, the hoodlums were well armed with sophisticated weapons, and after raiding the area, they went to the major market and shot sporadically and indiscriminately into the crowd, killing 20 persons on the spot and burning most of the shops in the market. He said the attack lasted for over two hours last Sunday. "The invaders had a field day wreaking havoc on us. They snatched several vehicles and loaded them with bags of assorted foodstuff, before fleeing the area." In Kirenowa town, where 20 persons were killed last week Thursday by the insurgents, they were said to have ransacked the town for food items, which they subsequently packed away in stolen vehicles. The insurgents on Sunday intercepted a vehicle loaded with bread, killed the four occupants and drove the vehicles towards Sambisa Forest. The vehicle, which was on its way to Polka from Gwoza, was attacked at Waraba village. Some of those who spoke to our correspondents appealed to both the state and the Federal Government to immediately come to their rescue by giving them food and rebuilding their burnt houses. One of them, Modu Kaka, said: "It has been difficult for our people to feed because our food items have been carted away and we are left with little to share among ourselves. "To even get another supply is a problem, if you get that, you are only inviting them to come back and that makes it necessary for security personnel to be deployed here." The village District Head of Limankara, Alhaji AbdulKareem Wahab, claimed that 1,750 bags of assorted grains were loaded in seven stolen vehicles that were taken away by the insurgents during the week. He said, "The invaders had a field day wreaking havoc on us. They snatched several vehicles and loaded them with bags of assorted foodstuffs, before fleeing our area." Also in Kirenowa town, residents said scores of armed insurgents invaded the area around 12noon, shooting everyone at sight and setting houses, shops and vehicles on fire. A resident of the area, Mallam Goni Bukar, said, "The militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, raided the area and proceeded to the major market and began sporadic shootings into the direction of crowd, killing 20 people on the spot and burning most houses and shops in the town. "They snatched several vehicles and loaded them with bags of assorted foodstuffs and fled. They destroyed everything we have, carted away our food and burnt down the remaining ones." It was also gathered that after wreaking havoc in Marte, the hoodlums invaded nearby Kimba and Makor villages, where five people were killed in each of the villages. Bukar added, "After the carnage in our area, the militants proceeded to the two neighbouring villages and killed 10 persons, even as they set ablaze several houses and vehicles. They equally carted away their food items." In a recent attack on Shawa, a neighbouring Chibok community, the terrorists stole food, after killing no fewer than 10 people. In another attack on Alagarno village, Borno State, the gunmen also stole food and razed their victims' homes. One of the residents who spoke with journalists, Mallam Umaru Saina, said, "They destroyed everything we had and burnt down our remaining food after stealing what they needed. What is most painful is that they did not spare our kids. They killed children and women." Apagu Maidaga also said Alagarno residents hid in the bush and watched while the extremists set ablaze their homes of thatch-roofed mud huts. The British newspaper, The Mail, had last Sunday reported that Nigerian journalist, Ahmad Salkida, who is trusted by both the Federal Government and the Boko Haram leader as a mediator, visited the camp where the abducted schoolgirls were being kept. Sakilda was quoted as claiming to have seen the abducted schoolgirls being "well fed and adequately sheltered." Saturday PUNCH gathered during the week that the insurgents resorted to stealing following the shortage of food to feed themselves and their hostages. It was also learnt that the thirst for more loot prompted the terrorists to invade Kamuyya village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State last Sunday. The recent activities of the sect have left the communities attacked further impoverished and many found it difficult to feed as their food items have been carted away. It was also learnt that the violent sect had begun to pile up food items in preparation for a long drawn battle with the military, especially as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Israel and other foreign collaborators are assisting the Federal Government to ensure the safe return of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls. With the allied forces believed to be on the ground to help the Nigerian military rescue the girls, it was learnt that the insurgents did not want to be caught unawares by running out of strategic resources, especially food. Saturday PUNCH further learnt that this development also contributed to the latest strategy of carting away food from communities, and the rustling up of the residents' cattle in the last one week. In recent publications, some residents of the communities close to Sambisa Forest told journalists in Maiduguri that the insurgents had visited their towns recently asking for money to execute "God's work." The villagers were only able to raise N70, 000. The insurgents left with the money but with a message that they would come back for the balance. They threatened to come back for the balance at a stipulated time or they would kill the villagers. One of the villagers, Bukar Umar, said the villagers took the threat with levity. They thought it was "madness gone too far." He said, "Actually when they issued the threat, we took it lightly as we were all relaxed and nobody bothered to make any extra effort to raise the amount they requested. May be that was what caused this bloody attack because we were unable to meet their demand." Speaking on the growing raid of the insurgents for food, a military source said, "The military is aware of this and knows that the insurgents are doing this for a strategy but it is inevitable that we have to confront them if the schoolgirls and other girls and women they have abducted are not released." He said, "They should continue to pile up food items as much as they can but wars and battles have different complexities and when we get to that stage we will definitely know which strategy to deploy.'' Unconfirmed reports had indicated that certain helicopters used to drop food items and other needs in the Sambisa stronghold of the Boko Haram group. Security experts said the growing focus on the Sambisa forest must have disrupted the routine of the helicopters, thus putting pressure on the group's supply chain and fueling more attacks on villagers in the North-East. Vincent was an only child being raised by his hard working parents Carol, 57, and father Wayne, 55, in their Norfolk, Virginia home. They did everything right - they lived in a good neighborhood, and helped Vincent become an honor roll student. But he boy snapped one day . . . and turned into a moster. On December 19, 2013 Vincent left school early while his dad was still at work. He showed up at the family home and surprised his mother - by dousing her in pepper spray. While the 57 year old woman was blinded and unable to defend herself, Vincent stabbed his mother in the eye, and then beat her with a crowbar and metal baseball bat 'until she stopped breathing'. A medical examiner noted 25 separate smashes and stabs on Mrs Parker's neck, face and head. The animal then waited patiently over his dead mother's body until his father came in the house. He surprised his dad and hit him in the back of the head with a crowbar, smashing his skull. He then stabbed his father multiple times. Luckily his father didn't die from the mortal wounds. He managed to call 9-1-1 and tell them what happened. When the ambulance arrived Carol had already died. Wayne survived a short time but died in the hospital. Yesterday Vincent plead guilty to two counts of second degree murder. A psychological evaluation found him to be both 100% sane and intelligent. She told Punch,It all began a few weeks ago when another member of the gang, Bola Onasile, (also in SARS custody) had approached her boyfriend about the availability of N70m in a wealthy man's house in Joju area of Sango, Ogun State. I am from Idofian in Kwara State. My father is late but my mother lives in Ibadan. She has no idea I do this kind of job and she does not even know I am in police custody.I was living with a security guard in a house at Osborne in Ikoyi. The landlord of the house was out of the country. I was going from there to 'hustle' in Lekki every night.Raji was a good helper to me. That was why I decided to leave pr0stitution when he begged me. When he introduced me to armed robbery, I asked him if there would be no problem and he assured me that there would be none. When we started dating, I did not know he was an armed robber though."I was hustling before Raji, my boyfriend, told me to join his gang........ I have only gone on two operations with them. I don't know him (Onasile) well. I only know that he was the one who brought the job.Raji gathered other members and they snatched a vehicle (a Nissan Quest) around Iwo Road, Ibadan. We decided that the vehicle would be used for the operation.The gang asked me to sit in the front of the vehicle so that when we were stopped by policemen on the way, being a woman in the front seat would make them unsuspicious. | Evil! Man Flogs 16-Year-Old Son To Death With A Belt In Lagos Posted: 31 May 2014 05:10 AM PDT  It was gathered that Benson, an indigene of Ishan in Edo State, allegedly beat up Bright, his 16-year-old son, to death after the teenager was accused of stealing N1,200. PUNCH Metro learnt that Benson, who had divorced his wife, was living on Olanrewaju Street, Oregun, Ikeja, with his two sons – Bright and Samuel, 14 years – when the incident happened. Samuel told our correspondent that on Sunday evening, his father beat up his elder brother in anger because of the accusation against him. He added that Bright had been ill before the beating. He said, "Bright has been sick for some days before that Sunday. Initially in the morning, Dad was looking for Bright, but could not find him. Later in the evening, Bright showed up with some boys on our street who told our father that Bright had stolen N1,200 from them. "Truly, dad found the money in his pocket, but I think he stole it because he was hungry that day. "My father was very angry on discovering the money in Bright's pocket. He returned the money to the owners, and after they left, tied Bright's hands with a rope. He then began to beat him with the iron end of his belt." Samuel noted that his father, who suffered from partial blindness, must have unintentionally hit Bright, who was still battling with a sickness, in the wrong place. "I think it was the anger that made my daddy to make that mistake. The reason is because as soon as he did not hear Bright's cries again, dad stopped beating him, carried him on his shoulders and rushed him to a private hospital near our house. But he was said to be dead when we got to the hospital," he added. However, Benson's neighbours told our correspondent that the man, despite his eyes' problem, had the habit of beating his children with any object. One of the neighbours, who identified herself simply as Oluwaseun, explained that the man began beating the boy around 9pm, adding that Bright's pleas for mercy fell on the dad's deaf ears. She said, "The man is simply a wicked man. He does not relate with people. The boy he killed usually takes him to church every Sunday because of his eyes' problem. So, on that Sunday, he could have become angry that the boy left home and refused to take him to church." Another resident on the street, who craved anonymity, said Benson had a history of violence in the area. "I was living in the house before. On one occasion when we were still living together, we had a small disagreement over where to spread clothes in the backyard of the house. The next thing was that Benson got a cutlass and chased me. I narrowly escaped from him that day. That was one of the reasons I moved out of that place," he said. PUNCH Metro learnt that Bright's remains had been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja mortuary for autopsy. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed that the case was under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
