Posted: 02 May 2014 11:33 AM PDT

A British Airways plane has had to make an emergency landing after a passenger went into premature labour and gave birth on board.

The 30-year-old woman, who was 26 weeks into her pregnancy, was one of 296 passengers on the Boeing 777 flying from Nigeria to London.

The crew diverted to Palma in Mallorca when the woman went into labour. BA crew helped medical staff based at the airport with the baby.

The woman and her baby were taken to hospital, where they were said to be in a stable condition.

The plane carried on to London after the incident on Thursday.

A BA spokeswoman said: "Our cabin crew, who are trained in birthing procedures, assisted with the delivery of a baby on board our flight from Abuja.

"The captain diverted the aircraft to Palma so that mum and baby could be taken to hospital. We wish the mother and her little one all the very best."

Early Image Of Jesus Christ Uncovered In Egyptian Tomb? [LOOK]

A team of Catalan archaeologists have discovered what they believe could be one of the oldest depictions of Jesus made by the earliest Coptic Christians in Egypt. The researchers uncovered an underground structure in a series of buried tombs that date to the 6th and 7th centuries. Among the Coptic, or early Christian, images painted on the structure's walls was what lead researcher Josep Padró described as "the figure of a young man, with curly hair, dressed in a short tunic and with his hand raised as if giving a blessing." early painting jesus

"We could be dealing with a very early image of Jesus Christ," Padró told La Vanguardia.

The researchers removed 45 tons of rock to access walls where the painting was found, which are situated among several sites Padró has been excavating for the last 20 years.

The drawing is under lockdown while researchers begin to translate the inscriptions surrounding it.

In 2011, archaeologists working near the Sea of Galilee discovered a 2,000-year-old booklet with what was then thought to be one of the earliest depictions of Jesus. The booklet reportedly bore the inscription 'Saviour of Israel', but its authenticity was later questioned.

'Yes we quarreled' - P-Square Finally admit!

Posted: 02 May 2014 10:30 AM PDT

Peter Okoye of P-Square has admitted that there was quarrel between the brothers- Peter, Paul and Jude. He said this in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle, @PeterPsquare.

"@PeterPsquare: We quarrel and argue just as u all do d same with ur siblings and families. Psquare is no exception.

"@PeterPsquare: We r also human, we ve settled our differences. And it has made us stronger! Thank u all for ur support and prayers", he tweeted.

He, however, said the group is back together and are already working on their next video, Testimony, and Phyno's O Set.

"@PeterPsquare: Back to work…. On set for Testimony video shoot and Phyno ft P2 OSet #tastethemoney #Oset", he wrote.

In the past weeks, Nigerian's blogosphere went wild with speculations of a P-Square break up after their brother, Jude 'Engees' Okoye, tweeted that he was putting 10 years behinds and moving on.

Also, P-Square's publicist, Bayo Adetu, has denied that he described the rumoured P-Square break-up as a publicity stunt in an interview with Icon Magazine.

Adetu said the magazine wrongly quoted him saying he could never speak in such manner as it would "amount to toying with the emotions of P-Square fans" which he said he cherishes "more than diamond" and will never disrespect.

"It was indeed a misconception on the part of the writer. I never said the rumour was a 'publicity stunt".

"There is no way I could have granted an official interview and spoke in such denigrating manner as being portrayed by the magazine in question", the former The News/ PM News reporter stated in a statement.

He, however, confirmed speaking to Star FM and NTA2!

SEE What Nigerian men Do To get extremely rich these days!

Posted: 02 May 2014 10:17 AM PDT

It is a unanimously agreed fact in most parts of Nigeria that moral decadence has set in and the society has lost both values and morals.

The average youth is thinking about money and luxuries of life. Different forms of vices are being perpetrated by young people, incidentally, most of those things that used to be money spinners no longer yield much.

For instance, the Advance Fee Fraud is gradually fading out while the "Yahoo Yahoo" internet fraud business is no longer lucrative as it used to be. Most of those who were courageous enough to venture into armed robbery never lived to enjoy their loot. Those still alive are increasingly finding it difficult to operate because robbers keep losing their lives in shoot out with policemen.

Street Journal has found out that in the quest for the easy way out of poverty, a lot of young men between the ages of 18 and 40 have opted for money rituals. While greed is a major factor, some are believed to have decided to go into rituals because of oppression by the rich while many believe poverty is the main cause. A student of one of the tertiary institutions in Kwara State who spoke to Street Journal disclosed that "there are students who wouldn't mind to hammer (hit big money) today and die the following week". That is to what extent morals have been eroded.

Incidentally, the story is the same in most parts of Nigeria.

For instance, in Enugu and some other parts of the East, secret cults now thrive as they offer the youths temporary solution to their problems. These cult groups transcend the normal campus brotherhoods whose members are often used by rich politicians. The newer form of secret cults boats of members that engage in esoteric ritual practices, human sacrifices inclusive. Street Journal's investigations revealed that these cult groups have taken firm root in most big cities in the East.

They now attract big boys who are seeking wealth, power and fame. Membership most times is made up of politicians, professionals, top civil servants, big time merchants; captains of industries, even clergymen are not left out.

Most people in the east adduced the growth of such money making cults to the average belief of the Igbo man in juju or "ogwu" as it is called in the local parlance. That aside, many people became members in order to protect themselves from enemies and to seek total victory over them. The medicine men who anchor most of the groups are believed to be capable of waging spiritual warfare against whoever opposes them.

Street Journal also found out that in order to prevent the groups from dying out, the older members embark on recruitment drives once in a while through which they woo prospective members. Poor young men are preferred in most cases and they are given promises of stupendous wealth if they can would perform rituals that will initiate them into membership.

Though some walk away, a lot of young men have been enticed by the promise of wealth. At times the prescribed ritual may involve the sacrifice of a loved one like a parent, sibling or spouse. Investigations also revealed that the conclusion of the ritual signals the beginning of the entanglement of the newly initiated member and a lifetime bond is formed. This is achieved via subtle blackmail as the cult normally has evidence of the new initiate performing the ritual either in a photographic or video form, though this is often unknown to the initiate.

Such pieces of evidence never find their ways out except the member decides to dump the group. They are also often used as a means of controlling members and ensuring that they do not deviate from the group's objectives thus serving as a back up to the blood covenant taken by each and every member.

Some years ago, one Amaechi, a Lagos based businessman was required to bring his mother for rituals. He went to his hometown in Abia and told his kinsmen that he was taking "Mama to Lagos for medical examination". The old woman however died in mysterious circumstances. The man hardly visits his hometown now because he would be forced to explain the circumstances surrounding his mother's death.

Some very desperate members have professed their preference to die young as long as they die rich. There were speculations years ago that that a rich young Igbo businessman who died at 44 years belonged to this category. He incidentally left 44 houses behind, he had also prepared his burial site before he passed on.

For some others, the practice of having sex with a corpse is recommended. This is said to be one of the most potent rituals in money making. In some cases however, money seekers are ordered to have sex with lunatics. A rich trader was caught pants down with a mad woman in Ogbete Main Market in Enugu about three years ago.

It has also been observed that sudden transformation often takes place in the lives of members of such cults. People that had been known to be poor would suddenly become rich and they acquire choice properties all over. The trend for covering up the spiritual background of their wealth is to start up businesses, but these days, most of them enter politics and even run for elective offices.

Incidentally, most of these cult groups do not forbid their members from attending churches. Street Journal's investigations revealed that they use that as an effective way of covering up their deeds and blending well into the society. Members are even encouraged to use their wealth to effect their rise in religious sectors so that as leaders, their tracks would be well covered.

It is however unfortunate that most of those who make their money through such channels are often cut down in their prime, and once someone is initiated, there is no going back.

In Ibadan and other big cities in the south west, a considerable increase has been observed in the number of lunatics roaming the streets. Investigations have however revealed that not all aad men on the streets are genuinely mad. a certain money ritual is said to be in vogue which involves the money seeker going crazy for a specific period of time after which the remaining rituals wold be carried out. investigations revealed that most of those who go for this method prefer going to towns where they are unknown to serve their period of madness. The only risk however is that those not destined to be rich may remain incurably mad.

Parents Cut Off Nose & Ear Of Cleric Who Raped Their Daughter! [Photos]

Posted: 02 May 2014 09:52 AM PDT

Police say the 12-year-old girl's parents invited Sayed Ahmad, 30, for dinner this week.

"They tied his arms and legs and cut his nose and ears off with a knife," policeman Javid Basharat said.

Police arrested the couple and the cleric, who is also the 12-year-old girl's cousin.

"The couple immediately confessed they cut his nose and ears off in retaliation for the abuse," Basharat told DPA.

"I cut off his ears and nose," her father Abdul Qahar, dressed in a traditional shalwar kameez and a turban, said from the police chief's office in the northern Baghlan province.

"I don't know if a cat ate his ears, but his nose went down the drain," he told Reuters, speaking in the Dari language

The cleric admitted he had abused the girl three months ago using anaesthesia, the spokesman said.

"She did not know what her cousin was doing with her," said Khadijah Yaqeen, chief of women's affairs department for Baghlan province.

"After the abuse, she told her parents and they decided to take the revenge."

“Nigerian Actors & Actresses Don’t Make Money From Movies, Nollywood Lacks Structure” – Ramsey Nouah Reveals!

Posted: 02 May 2014 08:38 AM PDT

Nollywood star, Ramsey Noah, exposes some of the realities confronting many Nigerian actors, writes Jayne Augoye

After a phenomenal rise to global fame, Nollywood celebrated its 20th anniversary recently. At other times, the occasion would have been marked with much partying, probably round the year. But things are far from being rosy for the industry at present.

Many challenges, including piracy, absence of structured distribution networks and a string of scandals trailing some of its star players, are threatening to rob the industry of its glory. While these issues are not new, they have taken a toll on the fortunes of some actors and actresses

Over the last few years, the effect of the dip in Nollywood's fortunes on some practitioners, especially the pioneers, has become a subject of debate and concern for stakeholders.

Before now, a good number of the screen stars found consolation in endorsements by corporate organisations, especially telecomunication companies like Globacom and MTN. But the business world is fast shifting its love to musicians.

Although some of their fans have come to realise that Nollywood movies 'no longer sell', a number of these stars, who themselves are obviously experiencing hard times, cover up by constantly hyping themselves.

But Nollywood star, Ramsey Noah, has burst their bubble.

Noah, whose acting career kicked off when he starred in the Nigerian TV soap opera Fortunes in the 1990s, is saying it as it is for the first time.

The actor was one of the panelists at the recently held Nigerian Entertainment Conference. He did not mince words when painting the true picture of the situation in Nollywood.

He says, "Many Nigerian actors live on their past glory. The truth is that many of us (actors) don't make money from film-making or movies any longer. There is the show part, but there is actually no business side to Nollywood any longer.

"Many of these actors depend on and make their money from acquaintances. So, they simply depend on those who appreciate their works and then introduce them to other sources of income aside acting."

The actor whose Globacom endorsement deal was terminated in 2013, alongside that of Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Mike Ezuruonye, Monalisa Chinda, Nonso Diobi and Odunlade Adekola, adds, "Some people who appreciate you for who you are and for your talent will then try to establish business links that can sustain you and your family."

Judging by the number of factions that currently exist in Nollywood and the current leadership tussle within the Actors Guild of Nigeria, it is not difficult to tell that the actors are somewhat divided amongst each other.

Noah appears to confirm this when he notes, "The truth about creative people is that they lack unity. It is very hard to find unity among them.  It has nothing to do with Nollywood, in particular.

"In Nollywood all you have is the show part but not the business. We lack structure. There is no balance. It is almost as if we sold our birthrights to the wrong people. Nollywood is capital — intensive and we are aware that improvements are needed, but we lack the structure to make this happen."

Even as The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has approved a 12-man committee of Nollywood stakeholders (this will pave the way for Nigerian entries to be considered for the Oscars in 2015), Nouah is optimistic that the future is not entirely bleak for Nollywood.

He says, "Hopefully this digital era will bring about positive changes in the outlook and technology of some of our movies. I would love the situation where creative minds put the right structures in place for the industry and then things will get better.

"I suggest that the Federal Government should impose heavy taxes on DVDs/VCDs producers so as to curb piracy. There is a need for the right structure, in addition to marketing and promotions, to propel Nollywood."

How Barber Stabs graduate to death during Chelsea/Athletico match! [PHOTO]

Posted: 02 May 2014 07:52 AM PDT

Saheed

When on Wednesday 29-year-old Saheed Badmus went to a viewing centre on Lamina Street, Egbe, Lagos State, to watch the UEFA Champions League semi-final match between Chelsea Football Club and Atletico Madrid, little did he know that was the last match he would ever watch.

We learnt that the graduate of Ekiti State Polytechnic was stabbed to death by a barber identified only as Yemi, during an argument that broke out at the viewing centre.

Our correspondent, who visited the scene on Thursday, observed a large crowd on the street talking about the incident.

Saheed's friends took our correspondent to a portion of the street where spinkles of Saheed's blood could be seen.

They told PUNCH Metro that passions were high at the viewing centre as most of the Chelsea fans were desperate to see their team qualify.

It was learnt that during the match, Saheed stood up and Yemi shouted at him and told him to sit down as he was blocking him from viewing the match on the screen.

An elderly man was said to have cautioned Yemi against shouting, but Yemi insulted the elderly man.

A friend to the deceased, Muyideen Waheed, told our correspondent that an argument then ensued between the barber and Saheed.

He said, "Yemi was shouting and one elderly man told him to keep quiet, but he shouted the man down. Saheed then cautioned against shouting at an elderly man. Yemi attacked him.

"The owner of the centre pushed both Yemi and Saheed out of the place and locked them out."

It was learnt that once they got outside, Yemi picked up a bottle from a nearby pub and stabbed Saheed.

It was learnt that as Saheed ran for his life, Yemi chased him and then stabbed him in the face.

Waheed told PUNCH Metro that when some of the viewers came out, they saw the deceased's lying in a pool of blood.

He said they rushed him to two hospitals, but he was rejected.

He said, "There was power failure and everywhere was dark. Most of us were inside the viewing centre, so we did not hear Saheed scream. When we came out, we saw him lying in a pool of blood. We rushed him to Obeeh Hospital, but he was rejected. We then took him to Bisalam Hospital, but he was referred to Igando General Hospital.

"On getting to Igando, he was pronounced dead."

Residents described Yemi as a violent man who had on several occasions attacked youths in the area.

While lifting up his shirt, Waheed said, "You see this scar on my chest. It was a stab wound inflicted on me by Yemi."

Our correspondent, who visited Saheed's mother's house, learnt that he was her youngest son.

The mother, Isiwatu, while weeping profusely, said she was pained that she did not live to reap the fruit of her labour.

"My son was a gentle man. We lived together and he was responsible. I still saw him on Wednesday before he went to watch the match. I struggled to send him to school and now, all is wasted. He had no wife and child.

"Yemi has stolen my joy and I want him arrested and sentenced to death for his crime. This was not a case of two people fighting. It was  an outright murder."

It was learnt that after killing the deceased, Yemi fled to his father's home, but his father alerted the police and he was arrested by policemen from the Ikotun Police Division.

When our correspondent visited the police station, Yemi was seen writing his statement.

Yemi's father, who refused to identify himself, described his son as a troublemaker and wondered where he got the behaviour from.

He said, "I hardly see my son. Sometimes, I don't see him for as long as three months. He just came to my house last night (Wednesday), crying. He told me that he had stabbed someone at a viewing centre.

"I reported him to the police. I don't know why he went to watch the match in the first place. What kind of trouble is all this?

"When I saw the picture of the boy he stabbed, I shed tears because it is every parent's worst nightmare."

One killed while celebrating goal

Meanwhile, our correspondent learnt that another person, identified as Destiny Ameh, lost his life at another viewing centre in the Badagry area of the state.

A police source told our correspondent that the victim was struck in the head with a sharp object while celebrating a goal.

The source said, "Around 8.30pm, one Destiny Ameh was allegedly hit with an object by an unidentified person while watching a match between Chelsea FC and Atletico Madrid at a viewing centre along Sofoluwe Street, Magbon, Badagry Expressway, Magbon, Badagry.

"He was rushed to Victoria Private Hospital where he was confirmed dead. The owner of the viewing centre has been arrested."

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, could not be reached for comment.

Commotion as Orthopaedic hospital sacks two nurses for wearing hijab!

Posted: 02 May 2014 07:48 AM PDT

Members of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, protest victimisation of secondary school students using Hijab by principals at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday. Photo: Bunmi Azeez.

Two female nurses of National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi Lagos (NOHIL) have been sacked for wearing hijab while on duty.

Members of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, protest victimisation of secondary school students using Hijab by principals at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday. Photo: Bunmi Azeez.

The nurses Mrs Fasilat Olayinka Lawal and Miss Sekinat Sanusi, relied on the prescription of their regulatory body, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria which says nurses should either wear nurse cap or shoulder lenght hijab as contained in a circular dated February 11, 2002 (reference number N&MCN/CMF/721/1/3).

The circular which was signed by P. N. Ndatsu, Secretary General/Registrar was said to have been sent to all Directors of Nursing and their deputies, chief Medical Directors, chief Executives, and Principals.

Vanguard gathered that Muslims nurses in other government and teaching hospitals in other states wear shoulder lenght hijab. Some of them include Kwara, Osun, Oyo in the South West and most states in the north of the country.

The victims in anticipation of the hospital management weilding the big stick, approached the court to obtain injunction against further actions by the management of the NOHIL, But this did not deter the hospital management as the two nurses were sacked a few days ago.

Sacking of two nurses

Narrating how it happened, Mrs Lawal said she accepted the offer based on the circular of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria prescribing a shoulder length hijab which she expected the hospital to comply with.

When Vanguard contacted the Medical Director, NOHIL, Dr. O.Odunibi on phone for comments, he declined saying "the matter is already in court and we have been told not to comment on the matter."

A senior Muslim nurse in the hospital who crave anonimity told Vanguard that they were not wearing hijab merely because no circular was given to them to that effect. She maintained that the development was an eye-opener to other Muslim nurses in the hospital.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is a parastatal of the Federal Government of Nigeria established by Act Cap. No143 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and the Council is the only regulatory body for all cadres of Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria.

How it happened

"I assumed duty on February 25, 2014, at the commencement of the one month orientation, I was told to remove my hijab but I insisted presenting a copy of a circular from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to the head of Nursing Department, Mrs Adebowale, hence I was allowed to do the orientation wearing hijab."

"I completed the orientation on March 23, 2014 and resumed duty fully in uniform on Monday March 24, 2014 and I was told that I was not properly dressed as I was using hijab and not a nurse cap.

"On April 8, 2014′ I wrote a letter of protest to the Medical Director copying Minister for Health, Minister for State for Health and Board Chairman, National Orthopeadic Hospital Igbobi Lagos and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria."

"On April 9, 2014, I was given a query dated April 8, 2014 to explain why disciplinary action should not be instituted against me for insubordination by not wearing Nurse uniform which I replied with a letter dated April 9, 2014 and since April 10, 2014 I have not been allowed to work or even sign the attendance register, we were told to stay outside the Director of Administrator's office by the Chairman of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwife (NANNM).

"On April 11, 2014, we were given two letters, one from the Director of Administration summoning us to a disciplinary committee on Monday April 14, 2014 and another from the Assistant Director of Nursing calling our attention to some so called facts.

On the April 14, 2014, we were at the panel/ disciplinary committee and was told to have a rethink of removing our hijab within 24hrs and get back to the committee the following day at 10:00am to avoid a disciplinary action taken against us."

"We immediately sort a legal advice since we were determined not to remove our hijab and decided to proceed to court to stop any diciplinary actions taken against us and also seek redress on the violation on our fundamental human rights and be allowed to work and wear our hijabs without hindrance as permitted by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the only body permitted by law to regulate the Nursing Profession in Nigeria.

"We were further prevented from entering the ward and carrying out our official duty, we wrote another letter to the Medical Director in the afternoon of April 15, 2014 notifying him of the situation."

"On April 17, 2014, a letter was written to the Medical Director by our Lawyer informing him of the implication of their actions of not allowing us to work and if the situation persists a contempt proceeding would be commenced against them. The situation continued that way without been allowed to work until April 23, 2014 when we were given a memo to appear before the Hospital Management Board by 10:00am."

"We met with the board and was told that by not removing our hijab we have committed an act of insurbodination and disobedience which is punishable by the law of public service.

We were asked if we were ready to retrace our steps by removing our hijab and we responded that we can not remove our hijab and moreso the matter is in court and we cannot take any further step without informing our lawyer.

Later that day ( April 23, 2014) we were issued a letter of termination of service," she narrated.

Muslim Lawyers react

The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, MULAN, has described the termination of employment of the two muslim nurses as 'wrongful dismissal'.

The Chairman of the association, Barrister Musadiq Adunni Sanni said the nurses have right to complain and also have the right to institute legal action if their fundamental human rights were infringed upon.

"It is wrongful dismissal. What I think they should have done is to wait on the court before taking a decision."

Sanni continued: "this is a labour matter and if the institution allows it, then the court will have to decide who is wrong."

"I also think they don't have respect for the rule of law and we are not happy that a Federal Institution like that would go that way."

On similar case of hijab involving a student who was punished because she wore hijad while in school, Barrister Sanni stated that although there is a proposal for out of court settlement, but maintained that the condition was not in favourable to the Muslims.

He said: "Just last Tuesday, the state maintained that it only limited the use of hijab to the Mosque on Fridays during Jumat and also during Zhur and Asr prayers, but we are not happy with that; our interest is total use of hijab. We are still on it and we are going to argue our case insha-Allah," he stressed.

MUPAC cries foul

The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) also expressed deep concern over the escalation of the case, saying the two nurses are yet another victims of discrimination. In a statement sent to Vanguard's Facing the Kaaba, the group said the Muslim nurses could have been subjected to cruel and degrading treatments simply because of their choice to wear the hijab at work.

"By its latest action, NOHIL and the hospital management have continued to show aggression against the victims and unrestrained and unaccountable hostility towards the Islamic faith. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) prescribes a standard uniform for all nurses in Nigeria and in its circular of February, 11,2002 (reference number N&MCN/CMF/721/1/3), it unambiguously specifies that "female nurses" may "wear either a Nurse cap or a shoulder length hyjab".

"The sisters will continue to demand justice, and the resolve of the Muslim community to stand by them will only strengthened them against this latest act of aggression."

"Tyranny of employers, public and private, highlights the need for our lawmakers to do the right things and make laws that will criminalise discrimination on the basis of religions."

MPAC urged all Islamic organizations, mosques, Imams, human right groups and individuals who cherish and value the collective aspiration to lend their prayers and support to these Muslim nurses.

'Boko Haram are more competent than Jonathan’s men!' - Iyabo Obasanjo Writes New Letter!

Posted: 02 May 2014 07:11 AM PDT

OBA

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has accused those in President Goodluck Jonathan's inner circle of being a hindrance to the resolution of the crisis posed by the Boko Haram insurgency.

OBAIn an open letter to the Islamist sect, whose leadership she credited with "more sense," Senator Obasanjo, however, faulted the insurgents for betraying the true essence of revolutionaries in directing their venom against the lower class.

Dr. Obasanjo in the 860-word letter particularly cringed at the abduction of hundreds of school girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, saying their crave for sexual gratification is no excuse for the abduction.

While noting her surprise that more armed groups have not risen against the state given the social and living conditions of the majority of the population, she wrote:

"I am moved to write about the current state of affairs in Nigeria. My first inclination was to write to the President but since all letters to him seem to elicit only open derision and even more stupidity from his inner circle, I have decided to address my letter to a group also currently causing Nigerians a lot of pain and agony that may actually have more sense than the country's leadership.

Dear Boko Haram

"The fact that you have taken arms against the Nigerian state is no surprise. The question should be why haven't more young people organised themselves against the state?

"Even the fact that your motto, 'Against Western Education' is in a way reasonable given the fact that your leader, martyred by the Nigerian state had university education and found no reasonable employment but had to resort to thuggery for politicians to survive, as the story goes.

"He, like millions of Nigerian young people and college graduates, seeing a blighted future are doing anything to survive.

"They have become opportunistic desperados, almost sub‑human as the stepping on and trampling on each other to death at the Immigration employment debacle indicates.

'Where you're wrong'

"Where I think you have gotten it wrong are in two areas, if you can pardon my giving you some unsolicited advice.

"First, your victims are becoming more and more the people you should be attracting to your side. Take the Nyanya bus massacre.

"The people that live in Nyanya are usually the clerks, messengers and other lowly office workers that live out in relative slums compared to the rest of Abuja and take public transportation to work to receive monthly salaries they barely get by on.

"Consult any written work of successful revolutionaries be it French, Russian, Cuban or even the more recent uprooting of communism in Eastern Europe, to succeed you need the people to be on your side. Right now you are not achieving this.

"You are targeting the group you need most. This does not make for a successful revolution but you are making yourselves into nuisances to the people and in the end while the state, including its military machine may not be able to conquer you, your downfall will be alienating these potential allies, i.e. the oppressed and down-trodden.

"Secondly, the abduction of girls. It must be hard to stay in the bush as all male revolutionaries fending for yourselves with no sexual gratification.

Cuban example

"But again, reading up on past bush revolutionaries like the Cuban, for example, indicates that they were able to convince some women to go voluntarily with them into the bush.

"Somehow, revolutionary zeal does not include sexual abstinence and cooking and cleaning by yourselves.

"Reading must be hard for you since you hate education but the past is a good guide to the future and if you can't read, you are done for in organizing or succeeding in most endeavours as most things have been done before and reading up on how it was done can only serve as good guidance.

"The parents of the girls you abducted are just trying to give their daughters a chance at having successful lives. Without an education there is very little anyone can achieve in this early 21st century.

"I know living in the bush; it must still seem like the dark ages but the truth is that even with the lack of jobs and opportunities for young people in Nigeria currently, it is still better to be educated.

"An educated university graduate who was selling food from a food cart ignited the Arab Spring which was spread by use of the internet which is hard to use if you are not educated.

"There are writings, videos and stuff you post on the internet which I haven't seen. But think of it, you can only post and use the internet because some of you have some education.

"But in the end you have no control over the distribution of your advertising and recruiting information because as you may know, the internet is really part of the western system you despise.

Why you're succeeding

"The truth is that you have succeeded because the Nigerian state has failed to provide jobs and opportunity for its young people who you can now easily recruit. By disrupting education, you are adding to the burden of the people.

"You may say, but how about our religious issue? Let the truth be told, just as there are indigenous southern Muslims, there are indigenous northern Christians even from your epicentre in Borno State and just as you are zealous for your religion, I don't see them giving up their religion either.

"The reasonable solution to this impasse would be for you to advocate for everyone to be able to practice their religion as they see fit with respect for each other's beliefs.

"Remember, a couple of centuries ago, all of our ancestors below the Sahara were all animists worshipping various 'gods.'

"This 'One God' — us against them situation — is a relatively recent one in our human history and you will be advised to let the originators fight it out and let your people be."

Winner of BBA 'The Chase' Dillish Mathew talks about her Life after BBA and her relationship with Flavour!

Posted: 02 May 2014 07:10 AM PDT

The winner of Big Brother Africa "The Chase", Dillish Matthews was in Nigeria recently for the Mr. Nigeria contest and Ynaija caught up with her!
She talked about her rumoured relationship with sexy Nigerian musician, how she is yet to spend the money she won at 'the chase', how she is running out of time to have kids (she will be 25 next year and wants to have all her kids before she is 25), her views on marriage, how she is most likely to end up marrying a Ghanaian or Nigerian and so much more...it's quite an interesting interview.
Read excerpts below:

How did it feel to win Big Brother Africa?

I still find it unbelievable. I mean seeing all those people who came from so many different countries during the opening ceremony, I still ask myself how I made it. People used to say I was too reserved and didn't kiss or have sex but I guess if it's your time, it's your time. I'm still humbled by the fact that I won.
What do you think helped you win the competition?
I don't think there's any strategy because I was just being myself. I think the trick is to be yourself, if you're wild and crazy, stay that way, if you're not, don't pretend to be.
What was the first thing you bought with the prize money?
I haven't really spent my money on myself because I've been investing in real estate. However, I did buy myself some watches including a Rolex.
You have your own cosmetics line now, do you have any other business ventures in mind?
My cosmetics line, Vault by Dillish is an endorsement by a US company and I also have my own salon in Namibia. I also have investments in real estate. Frankly, I consider myself to be businesswoman not an entertainer.
Do you have any interests in music or acting?
I love African music. After Big Brother, my mind opened and I started listening to South African music, to D'banj and of course to Flavour so when he asked me to feature in his video, I said yes.
As for acting, I'm working on a few things and if they turn out well, I just might explore it too.
So about Flavour, there's a rumour on the grapevine that you're a couple, is that true?
Flavour and I are just friends. I mean he's hot and I'm sure he thinks I'm hot but we're just okay with being friends. Besides, he hasn't made any moves like that and I haven't either.
So are you expecting him to make a move?
No, I'm not. He has a girlfriend and I hear she's a hottie.
What do you think about Nigerian men?
I think there's a possibility that I'd either marry a Nigerian or a Ghanaian, there's just something about them that I find attractive.
You once said that you don't believe in marriage, do you still feel this way, and why?
I still feel this way but it's not that I don't believe in it, I just don't think I would want to get married. I think I would be okay if I could just find a guy that I could date forever. This might change when I get older but for now that's how I feel.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Of course, I've had my heart broken, I've been friend zoned many times and I've been turned down before too. I didn't take it to heart though because I think it's just normal.
Speaking about heartbreak, there were a lot of rumours about what led to the breakup between you and your ex-boyfriend, Stephen. What really happened?
All I have to say is that not everything reported is true so don't believe everything you read. Sometimes people make stories up so that the media can leave them alone.
You promised your fans on Twitter that you intend to start having babies this year, so when are we expecting the little ones?
As soon as I find myself a hunk, I'll start. I've always wanted to have kids before 25 and I'll be 25 next year so I'm running out of time.
After you won Big Brother, your long lost father suddenly surfaced, how did that make you feel?
As a child without a father, you look around and just wish you could be like other kids who have one. It's an empty feeling and you just want to know him and if you look like him.
I've always wanted to know and I went to Big Brother and mentioned his name in the hope of finding him. When he came forward, I rejected him at first and then I saw the resemblance and opened up and accepted him. I'm taking it slowly now and getting to know him.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing women in Africa?
I think it's the fact that people believe we should be submissive. If you start making a lot of money as an African woman, you could get demotivated because people believe you won't find a husband. Men don't really like women who are rich because they believe she'll misbehave.
You've been helping a lot of children, do you have a charity organization of your own?
Yes I do, it's called the Royal Hope Foundation and it focuses on community development and I hope that it can spread across Africa.
How do you intend to do your part in making the world a better place?
The vision I have, is that of helping people. It's such a passion for me that I can sacrifice a lot just to make a person's life better. I'm not interested in a lavish lifestyle, I just want to help people.

'How General Hospital Doctors Killed my Only Sister And Baby' -Angry Brother Recount Ordeal! [PHOTO]

Posted: 02 May 2014 07:13 AM PDT

ew

Two months after her wedding, Folasade Ogunbiyi's hope of savouring enduring marital bliss and safe motherhood assumed a fatal twist on March 16, 2014 when she died shortly after a controversial childbirth at the Orile Agege General Hospital (OAGH), Lagos State.

It all began on March 14, when the late 26-year-old Folasade , according to her elder sister, Esther Babalola, complained of abdominal pain and was rushed to the hospital for proper treatment. Upon medical examination, doctors allegedly said that she was carrying a dead baby in her womb and that there was need for a Caesarian Section to remove the baby. She was, however, said to have been abandoned by doctors for over 24 hours before she was attended to.

"Her husband had travelled out of town on March 14 when she complained of abdominal pain. I noticed that she was probably due for delivery and we decided to take her to a private hospital in the neighbourhood. But doctors at the hospital said she would need to undergo Caesarian operation to be delivered of the baby.

"It was at this juncture that we decided to rush her to Orile Agege General Hospital where she registered for ante-natal. Doctors at the hospital, however, told us that she was carrying a dead baby in her womb, adding that there was need for Caesarian Section to remove the dead baby."

Painting the circumstances leading to the death of Folasade and her son, Babalola said: "On March 15, we were asked to get some drugs and while I had gone to fetch the drugs, she was safely delivered of a baby boy through Caesarian Section. The doctors did not even know that the baby was alive until one of the nurses noticed that he was breathing at a corner where he was abandoned for hours. The baby developed complications a few hours later and was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja where doctors confirmed him dead as a result of long exposure to cold.

"The baby was not attended to on time and I was told by a health worker who spoke in confidence that she was the one that notified the doctors that the baby was alive. The doctors had dumped the baby and did not attend to him until they were told that he was alive. The baby was not covered with clothes to keep him warm which resulted in a lot of complications.

"They asked us to pay for several tests run on the baby when his health deteriorated. We were later referred to LASUTH where doctors told us that his case was badly managed at Orile Agege General Hospital following undue exposure to cold and that the exposure had led to his death shortly before we arrived at the hospital."

Speaking further on events leading to the death of her only sibling, Babalola said: "My sister's lips suddenly swelled up and turned yellowish and we called the attention of the doctors on duty to the development. The swollen lips later subsided after she was treated, but she died shortly after on March 16. A doctor at LASUTH, who did not want her name mentioned, told me that my sister must have reacted to a particular drug called ROCEPHINE that was administered on her. She said the drug was mostly used on patients who suffer from cancer, or people suffering from excessive pains.

"The doctor asked me if she complained of excruciating pain and I said no. She also said that even if she was going through pains, the drug should have been given to her in small doses. And I concurred because that same drug was among the list of drugs prescribed and administered on her at the hospital.

"We were asked to defray all the bills incurred before they could release her body to us for burial and we complied. We were shocked when the hospital insisted on carrying out a postmortem on her body which the family had earlier opposed. Although, we have since buried her but all we want on this matter is justice.

"Folasade was the only sister I had. She had a traditional marriage ceremony on December 26, 2013. She was a very hardworking person. Her death is a big loss to our family and that is why I have been mandated to express the position of the family on the complicity of doctors at the hospital which eventually led to the loss of Folasade."

When our correspondent visited the hospital, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. (Mrs) Iyabo Tijani, declined comments on the grounds that she was not competent to speak on the matter. "I cannot say anything on the matter because I am not officially competent to speak on this incident. The Ministry of Health is the only place you can get comments on this issue, please go there."

Fruitless efforts were also made by our correspondent to seek the comment of the spokesman of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mr. Tunbosun, as he did not pick his calls or reply a text message sent to his phone line.

Must Read: Why Celebrities’ Dubai Weddings Are Bad For Nigerian Tourism! [PHOTOS]

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:37 AM PDT

dubiaaa

This is a very interesting, eye-opener article written by Paschal Oge Chikero, please read:

It is about that time, we told ourselves the truth. Nigerian celebs need to be told the truth. It is fast becoming a norm in Nigeria to see our celebrities tell us bluntly with their actions that they can make good money in Nigeria but don't see it befitting to spend it in Nigeria!

Are you wondering what I am insinuating? Let me break it down to you. Our Entertainers make good money from their Nigerian fans, get celebrated by Nigerian fans but when it comes to the time to spend good money for their wedding ceremony, they remember that Nigeria is for poor people and move their wedding ceremonies outside Nigeria.

I know I am not the one making this money for them and shouldn't try to tell them how to spend it. But the truth is that we can ask reasonable questions. Is this benefitting us? How many celebs from Dubai take out time to peep into Nigeria?

Do you know that the high brow weddings Tuface, Stephenie Okereke, Tiwa Savage etc have done outside Nigeria could have positively impacted on Nigerian Tourism sector? The worst is that our celebs don't recognize the fact that they have power to ignite a culture in a society. As Tuface and co have successfully done their wedding in Dubai, France etc, you will be shocked how many ordinary Nigerians will start doing all they can to make sure they wed outside Nigeria just to belong!
Financially, these wedding ceremonies can heavily impact on Nigeria's Tourism sector and because it has a multiplier effect, it will spill into other sectors. Imagine if Tuface spent the N20 Million his Dubai wedding gulped in Nigeria? Some Nigerians would have made millions.

If Tuface Idibia, Stephanie Okereke, Tiwa Savage held their wedding ceremonies in Nigeria, let's say in resorts like Obudu Cattle Ranch, imagine how many hotels in Cross River would have been fully booked during that period? All the money other quests spent on accommodation, transport etc would have gone into the pockets of their loyal Nigerian fans. Money spent on reception hall and decoration would have been paid to Nigerians.

The catering and souvenirs would have been done by Nigerians but our celebrities in the name of class, prefer to throw millions into the pockets of people who don't even know they exist! Fine I gathered that some Nigerians took part in Tiwa's wedding but what of Hotel and Transportation bills? Those ones, Nigerians can't take part in.

Media wise, if our celebs are very popular outside the shores of Nigeria, their wedding can attract international media attention on Nigerian tourism sector thereby opening up the sector to the international market.

We criticize Nigerian Politicians who fly their kids abroad to school, travel out for medical attentions etc, please what is the difference between what they do and what these celebs are doing?

If you ask me, I think this shows that Nigerian celebs are telling the world that Nigerians have inferiority complex! We see everything in Nigeria as inferior but when it comes to making money, our money is not inferior to grab but when time to spend it comes, everything Nigerian is labelled not worthy of my class.

Yet an artiste of Banky W's status belittled his intelligence by insulting Nigerians for criticizing the Dubai craze! It is a pity that Nigerians have no respect in the eyes of the celebrities they celebrate!

This is Pure Wickedness! See New Born Baby Found Dead In a Gutter, In Lagos (PHOTOS).

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:27 AM PDT

According to journalist, Jennifer Ehidiamen who witnessed the incident on Wednesday (April 30, 2014) in Lagos: "I saw a crowd gathering around a heap by the gutter in Fadeyi area of Lagos. My curious self crossed to the other side and was about to ask, "wetin dey happen" when I saw it. A lifeless newborn (baby) wrapped in a blanket. One of the cleaners found the baby in the gutter. Lagos lookers were cursing the person responsible for dumping the baby. Some said they suspect the person lives around the corner. So they raved and cursed. Another photo below!

TOO BAD! How Last night's Nyanya bomb blast was carried out by two Cameroon Nationals! [PHOTO]

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:26 AM PDT

The Golf car reportedly used for the bombing.

Two suspects identified as Cameroonian nationals have been nabbed and are currently in police custody in connection with last night's devastating bomb blast in Nyanya, Abuja.

Force Spokesman, Frank Mba disclosed this in Abuja while briefing newsmen.

Mba said only 19 people died, 31 were injured by the blast, which happened around 8pm near a police checkpoint and opposite the bus station bombed by Boko Haram in the morning of April 14, officially killing 75 people and injuring over 200.

He, however, assured that the police are on the trail of other suspects.

According to eye witnesses, they had seen a man suspected to be the bomber pack a white Volkswagen Golf car in the vicinity of Wazobia Park and walked away, shortly after which the bomb went off.

"There were policemen around when this explosion happened and they didn't manage to stop it," lamented Charles Osueke, who was in the area at the time of the blast.

Laide Bakare might seem not to be bothered about EFCC's threats and that of MTN, which accused her husband of swindling them. But we guess she will be bothered now that the court orders about confiscating her husband's properties have come to reality.

Her husband's two petrol filling stations in Ajah, his house at Ibeju Lekki, his 2014 model of Bentley and Laide's boutique have all been confiscated as you read this.

So Sad! 'Doctors’ strike Caused Amaka Igwe’s death' - Husband Finally speaks!

Posted: 02 May 2014 06:10 AM PDT

It has been revealed that the ongoing Doctor's strike action in Enugu, led to film maker, Amaka Igwe's death.

Narrating how his wife, Amaka Igwe died on Monday night in Enugu, her bereaved husband
said 'we were in Enugu preparing for her new soap, and Amaka was taking some of the people through acting when she had an asthma attack. After using inhaler without success, she was taken to a nearby hospital, but we were told that the doctor was not around.

We then went to the teaching hospital in Enugu, where we were again told that the doctors were on strike. It was while we were taking her to another hospital that she died." Charles painfully disclosed this while receiving delegates from the national executive of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) who paid him a condolence visit days ago.

WOW! Meet Beautiful billionaire's daughter Elvina Ibru who lost over 100kg and doesn't believe in marriage

Posted: 02 May 2014 05:18 AM PDT

About two decades ago, popular daughter of billionaire businessman  Olorongun Michael Ibru, Elvina Ibru  was crowned the winner of the Miss Big and Beautiful Competition UK.

Back then, Elvina weighed 210 kgs, yes she did but today, the former singer now weighs 115kg and she has decided to tell us about it!

In a recent interview with TheNation, she further talked about how a lot of Nigerian men wanted to father her babies and how much she hates being married. See excerpts below:

  • You won an international beauty pageant because of your big size, why are you slimming down?
I think Gloria, my elder sister, started it. Initially, she was the biggest amongst us all. She started losing weight first. Then I was getting bigger by the day. So two years ago, after Gloria inspired me with her gradual weight loss, I started telling myself that I could do it too. I guess what eventually triggered it off was that I had been big all my life but I never had any sickness or illness. It got to a point when I was beginning to feel sluggish. I felt I was suddenly trapped in my own body. There were some things that I had always loved to do, but my body was just not responding.
So I was asking myself, what was happening in my body? Also I was feeling little ache at my back, and I just had a little son. So I asked myself how I was going to be enjoying and playing with my little son when I could not even lift my body.

So it was not really about being prettier or being more beautiful that I lost weight. It was more about my health. Though I never had health challenges attached to my former weight.

At my biggest, I weighed 210 kg and I am 5 feet 11. That is a very large person! But I didn't have ailments like diabetes, cholesterol or hypertension except for the small ache at my back. I didn't want a situation where I had to get to where I became unhealthy. So I had to nip in the bud, the overweight. I cannot now talk about my diet because I am not through yet. I still want to go down 16-20 more kg. That is the size I feel I should keep, not because that is what health experts say, but what I feel I want.

  • But do you mean that you are still intending to reduce further than this?
Yeah, but people are asking me why I want to do that, because my size as it is now is quite attractive. I feel better now though; I was weighing 210 kg then. Presently it is 115. So I have lost about 95kg. If I can get to 100kg or 95kg, then I will be very happy. When I get to that point yeah, I can share my diet recipe and perhaps help some other people who are in such situation that I have been. All my life, I have been struggling with weight. It is not easy.

  • But with your huge body frame, you won a beauty contest in the UK…
Yes (laughs), that's a long time ago. Yes that was the Miss Big and Beautiful competition. But right now, I may be much slimmer than what I was before, but I know that I don't see myself as a normal sized person, I'm still big. Though much more comfortable. To be honest, I don't want to be too skinny either. I am still out there for the sisters with curves. Yeah, I am still an advocate for curves. I don't want to be skinny; I just want to feel good and know that I am healthier. And having no health issues or having worries that the heart could give way any time. I am proud of what I achieved as Miss Big and Beautiful, especially at that time; I was the only African girl in the competition. Just for that alone was an achievement. Having curves is African.

  • So how have people been reacting to your new passion of losing weight? And do people still complement you that you are beautiful?
They still do, but some say I am looking a bit drawn, a little bit tired, I don't know what they see. They say that before, I was very fresh, that I looked like a baby. However, most people say well-done, you are looking younger and healthier. So it's a good feeling.

  • So people are still 'toasting' you for marriage?
Hmm, 'toasting' does not mean marriage at all. Whether you are thin or big, people will still 'toast' you (laughs). Even if you are not beautiful, guys will still 'toast' you. It has nothing to do with looks. But for marriage, this is one aspect that people see me as being very controversial.

I have never wanted to be married. And I do not want to marry presently, and I don't want to ever get married. But like they say, never say never! I have never ever had the vision of getting married. I have never ever seen myself ever getting married. Even with Elisha who was a planned child, there was no marriage plan. Though his dad wanted marriage, I told him, I love you. I will have your child, you could even be the father of my children, but I am not marrying. I allowed him to understand that it wasn't that I was against him, but I just didn't want to marry.

  • Do you have any special reason for not marrying?
If I was born in America or Europe, perhaps I would have been taken to see a therapist. Honestly, I have never ever fancied marriage. They say most little girls have dreams of Prince Charming and their little cottage, a garden and a child or two. I have dreamt of children many times, but never of a little cottage with one man there. That is not for me. So maybe if I see a therapist, they will be able to sort out what is wrong with my brain.

It might be related to the fact that I am from a polygamous home. It might also be connected to the fact that my mom was somebody that I can refer to as having been perfect. She was sometimes sad, always had a few issues with my father and his wives. Maybe it has to be that. My mom was who I called a renaissance woman. She was beautiful, educated; she made my father what he became. She was hard- working, domestic, and when it came to being social, she was very social. She was a generous person, she had seven healthy babies. If it was to cook, she was right there, and when it was groove time, she was there and ready. So if a man was not satisfied with her, I don't know who they will be satisfied with. I don't know.

I have friends, girls who are married and to be honest, I don't think that any of them can honestly tell me that they are completely happy with their marriages. So that makes marriage scary to me. So they ask me, 'Elvina how come you are still looking fresh? And I reply that it is because I didn't get married and twisted.'

  • What if another opportunity to have another child comes?
I wouldn't hesitate. I have always loved children. A lot of people were surprised that I started late. They thought that by the time that I had Elisha, that I would probably have had like five or six children because, I had always wanted children. But you don't just go and have a child for just anybody. One has to be careful. For instance, even though Elisha's father and I are not together again, we are still good friends and he is a good father to his son. That is the important part.
That is the joy of choosing a good father. Not going to have a baby because this boy is fine or this boy has money to spend, or this one comes from a good home. It is more than that. One has to be careful.

And the thing you should remember most is 'what if anything wrong happens to the child. Apart from the obvious, my sisters who are very close to me are capable of being there for me. But anything can happen and he has to go and stay with his father.

  • Did you weigh all that well before you had Elisha?
Of course, do you know how many men wanted me to have a baby with them? They were many who wanted that. They were some who even just after two months in the relationship wanted me to have babies for them. I had to be careful. Elisha's father has sisters that I am close to. So Elisha has a big family from all sides, not just from mine.

Elvina & son Elisha
  • How is your son?
He is good; he is the best thing that as ever happened to me. His name is Elisha and there are so many things attached to that name. The literary meaning of his name Elisha in Hebrew means 'my God my salvation.' So he'll grow up never to forget that without God he is nothing. Also, the name has a lot of meaning to me because before I had him, I had a miscarriage that I went through before I eventually had him. I was pregnant with twins, which meant double. So when he arrived, it was like God had given me double anointing back. You know God doesn't cheat anybody. He gives you what you really need at the time you need it.

  • How about his dad?
His dad is fine. He is in Port Harcourt. We are not together anymore. But we are very good friends; in fact he got married last December to a very nice girl. So Elisha has a very beautiful, lovely step mom that I am very close to. We are trying so hard to be a unit, even though I am in Lagos and he is in Port Harcourt. But Elisha comes first. He is a good dad.

  • We heard somewhere that you in a relationship…
(Laughs) there is always talk of me being in something. Yes, talk about me being in one relationship or another. Frankly speaking, that remains my business. So it's sweet sometimes when you actually sit back and hear all those things people are saying about my love life. But the truth is that, I keep a mystery to my love life these days. People make up their stories, and create imaginary characters around me.
