Sherri Shepherd's Husband Files For Separation and Wants Custody of Unborn Baby

Posted: 09 May 2014 04:21 PM PDT

Sherri Shepherd, a co-host on "The View", and her husband Lamar Sally are announced to be legally separated and heading for divorce. Lamar Sally and Sherri Shepherd were married in 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, and I remember watching clips and pictures from the wedding on an episode of The View. They looked so happy and in love, so I can just imagine how sad this time must be for them.

According to TMZ, Lamar Sally filed the separation papers on May 2 and is already living in California while Sherri is in New York where The View is taped. This is Sherri Shepherd's second marriage, she divorced her first husband of eight years, Jeff Tarpley, in 2009 after she learned he was having an affair. She has a son, Jeffrey, from that previous marriage.

TMZ also reports that Lamar's legal documents indicate he wants full legal and physical custody of the couple's unborn child, expected via a surrogate this summer. He wants Sherri to only have visitation rights. Lamar also wants spousal support and he wants the prenup invalidated based on fraud. Lamar wants an order preventing Sherri from interfering with his ability to take the kid with him after the birth.

This sounds all kinds of acrimonious. I hope they are able to work it out.

Mila Kunis Talks About Her Pregnancy and Engagement on The Ellen Show

Posted: 09 May 2014 02:49 PM PDT

Mila Kunis talked with Ellen about her pregnancy and engagement to Ashton Kutcher on today's Mother's Day show. Mila and Ashton are expecting their baby for later this year, but she would not give a specific due date or reveal the sex of their child. Mila however revealed that she was also going to apprach and have her labor as all natural as possible unless there's an emergency or something goes wrong.

Speaking on Ashton Kuchner's role in her pregnancy, Mila went on to explain that her fiance has been facilitating her peculiar food cravings, which included pickles and sauerkraut. She said,

'He assumed that I was gonna have goofy cravings, so he stocked our secondary fridge with weird food. Just like pickles, and sauerkraut, or like anchovies, and ice creams…just in case at one point during this pregnancy I'd be like I really want something. And it happened last week, I was like oh my God, I need a pickle. Like it was just the weirdest thing. Like I needed this pickle and he was like hold on a second and disappeared in the backyard and came back with the most amazing dill pickle of all time.'

Mila also said that Ashton was learning Russian so he and Mila (who speaks the language and is from the Ukraine) could raise a bilingual child. See the video clip below...

Elizabeth Raine, Medical Student Who Auctioned Her Virginity Backs Down

Posted: 09 May 2014 12:02 PM PDT

'Elizabeth Raine,'a 28-year-old medical school student who had been auctioning her virginity on a website she created anonymously and had received a high bid of $801,000 now says she won't go ahead with having her first sex with the highest bidder.

In the latest blog post on her website, the student writes that she won't fulfill the terms of the auction as she wants to focus on her medical studies instead. She wrote;

"The bidding closed yesterday as planned (high bid was $801,000), but I am here to tell you that the terms of the auction will not be fulfilled. With the blessings of my management and the high bidders, I have decided to put a stop to this kerfuffle (to describe it nicely) and return my focus to my medical training. I still do possess some spitefully strong beliefs about virginity, prostitution, and a woman's right to do as she damned pleases, but school is my first priority (as it has been for my entire life). At this point, I no longer care about the auction, at all. This was a very easy decision."

I say good for her, and all the best with her medical studies :)

See The World Richest Selfie With Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger

Posted: 09 May 2014 11:55 AM PDT

Selfies have entered the dictionary and so far, everyone and their dog probably have their selfie online somewhere. I am guilty as have been some of the most powerful and famous people in the world. President Barack Obama with British Prime Minister David Cameron took the most powerful selfie during the funeral of late Nelson Mandela.

During the last Oscars, host Ellen DeGeneres, took the most famous one with stars like Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyongo, and when tweeted, the selfie got over 4 million retweets. Well, there's a new selfie in town, the world's richest selfie featuring Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and his financial partner Charlie Munger. The three men are among the richest in the world with a combined net worth of $143 billion.

The lucky woman who got to take the photo is Becky Quick, the anchor of CNBC Squawk Box, the show on which the selfie was taken.

Chimamanda Adichie, Wole Soyinka Named Among Africa's Greatest Innovators in Arts and Sciences

Posted: 09 May 2014 11:16 AM PDT

The National Geographic Innovator's Project has named Chimamanda Adichie, Wole Soyinka, and Babatunde Olatunji as Nigerians in their list of nine innovative Africans. asked distinguished professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Research Institute at Harvard University, to name some of Africa's top intellectual innovators. See their brief bios below...

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Nigerian-born Adichie is the author of three novels, most recently the critically acclaimed Americanah. The book describes the affecting journey of a Nigerian woman who takes her chances in America as an emigrant, not because of poverty or hunger in her homeland, but to escape what she calls the "oppressive lethargy of choicelessness." The book is also a penetrating discourse on what it means to be black and how views of identity differ between African Americans and American Africans. In addition to her brilliant storytelling skills, Adichie has stepped into the realm of politics with her TED talk called "We Should All Be Feminists," said to have inspired the Beyoncé song "Flawless" and various opinion pieces. Babatunde Olatunji (1927-2003)Fascinated by African music from a young age, Nigerian drummer Olatunji helped pave the way for African music in the West. As a young man, he received a Rotary International Foundation scholarship that allowed him to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. At Morehouse, he organized a small group to play African music at school social events. After graduating as president of the student body, he studied public administration at New York University, where he started a small percussion group. Due to a lack of funds, he withdrew from the university and began to focus on music and give concerts, which led to him getting a job playing drums in a Radio City Music Hall production. It was not long before he was spotted by a Columbia Records producer and began releasing albums featuring traditional African music and hybrid compilations, winning him the enthusiastic acclaim of other jazz musicians. Olatunji was also a social activist, known for using the performance hall as his platform. PHOTOGRAPH BY WILLIAM JAMES WARREN/SCIENCE FACTION/CORBIS

Akinwande "Wole" Soyinka A Nigerian writer notable for his plays and poems, in 1986 Soyinka was the first African to be awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Soyinka bases his writing on the mythology of his own Yoruba tribe and connects his plays to traditional African theater, dance, and music. Though he primarily considers himself a playwright, he has written novels and several volumes of poetry. After earning his doctorate in the United Kingdom, he worked at the Royal Court Theatre in London, where he wrote and produced plays. He later returned to Nigeria to study African drama, start an acting company, and teach literature and drama at the country's universities. For decades a strong proponent of Nigerian democracy, his works often focus on his criticism of Nigeria's many military dictators. He has been imprisoned and exiled, fleeing Nigeria in 1994 for the United States. Soyinka, who will turn 80 in July 2014, has taught at numerous U.S. universities, including Cornell, Emory, and Loyola Marymount. PHOTOGRAPH BY REX FEATURES/ASSOCIATED PRESS

Other women named in the list include Miriam Makeba (South Africa), Wangari Maathai (Kenya), and Nadine Gordimer (South Africa). The rest are Samir Amin (Egypt), Kwame Anthony Appiah (Ghana), and Loius B Leakey (Britain).

Amnesty Reveals The Nigerian Military Knew of Planned Chibok Attack and Abductions

Posted: 09 May 2014 09:04 AM PDT

Amnesty International in a recent press release has confirmed  that Nigeria's military headquarters in Maiduguri was aware of the impending attack on Chibok before it happened. Various sources say they were alerted soon after 7pm on 14 April, close to four hours before Boko Haram began their assault on the town.

According to the Amnesty report,

Between 7pm on 14 April and 2am on 15 April, the military commands in Damboa, 36.5 km away from Chibok, and Maiduguri, 130 km away from Chibok, were repeatedly alerted to the threat by both security and local officials.

According to sources interviewed by Amnesty, local civilian patrols (known as "vigilantes", set up by the military and local authorities) in Gagilam, a neighbouring village, were among the first to raise the alarm on the evening of 14 April after a large group of unidentified armed men entered their village on motorbikes and said they were headed to Chibok. This set off a rapid chain of phone calls to alert officials, including the Borno State Governor and senior military commanders based in Maiduguri.

One local official who was contacted by Gagilam residents told Amnesty:

"At around 10:00 PM on 14 April, I called [several] security officers to inform them about earlier information I had received from the vigilantes in Gagilam village. They had told us that strange people had arrived in their village that evening on motorbikes and they said they were heading to Chibok. I made several other calls, including to Maiduguri. I was promised by the security people that reinforcement were on their way."

Another local official was contacted by herdsmen who said that armed men had asked where the Government Girls Secondary School was located in Chibok.

At around 11:45 PM, a convoy reportedly numbering up to 200 armed Boko Haram fighters – on motorbikes and in trucks – arrived in Chibok town and engaged in a gunfight with a small number of police and soldiers based there. Outnumbered and outgunned, the security forces eventually fled in the small hours of 15 April. Some of the Boko Haram fighters proceeded to the Government Girls Secondary School and abducted more than 240 schoolgirls.

Two senior officers in Nigeria's armed forces confirmed that the military was aware of the planned attack even prior to the calls received from local officials. One officer said the commander was unable to mobilize reinforcements. He described to Amnesty the difficulties faced by frontline soldiers in north-eastern Nigeria:

"There's a lot of frustration, exhaustion and fatigue among officers and [troops] based in the hotspots…many soldiers are afraid to go to the battle fronts."

Amnesty's requests for a reaction from the military headquarters in Abuja have gone unanswered.

This is really not a flattering image of the Nigerian military, and how they are protecting the civilians in the areas where Boko Haram operates. Now, it is more than three weeks since the abductions and majority of the girls are still in captivity, some of them reportedly trafficked to neighboring countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger. I hope that going forward, the military is better equipped by the government so they can do a better job of protecting Nigeria's citizens.

Did American Woman, Rama Mosley, Try to Claim She Originated #BringbackourGirls?

Posted: 09 May 2014 07:42 AM PDT

It is not Rama Mosley but Oby Ezekwesili and Ibrahim Abdullahi who actually started the trending hashtag on Twitter. However it seems the western media always prefers to give one of their own the prestige of discovering things. Mungo Park discovered River Niger, and now Rama Mosley was almost canonized for starting the #Bringbackourgirls social media campaign to free the girls abducted in Borno state.

First, Rama Mosley was wrongly profiled by ABC News Nightline two days ago, and then she was supposed to be interviewed yesterday by Wolf Blitzer on CNN. When both shows began to be promoted on Twitter as with the originator of #bringbackourgirls, a massive backlash from the Nigerian twitterati opened the can of worms. The Wolf Blitzer interview was cancelled and the ABC News article on their website corrected.

Now the truth has emerged, and Nigerians, Oby Ezekwesili and Ibrahim Abdullahi, who started the trending campaign can actually take their rightful place in history and whenever the story of #bringbackourgirls is told. Hopefully, their efforts which spun off mass street protests in Nigeria and around the world will lead to the rescue of the abducted girls.

According to this report by the Wall Street Journal;

The signature hashtag, which allows Twitter users world-wide to find like-minded people, had its origins in Abuja. On April 23, Mr. Abdullahi was at home watching a televised broadcast of the opening celebration of Port Harcourt's year as the United Nations' world book capital.

One speaker, former World Bank Vice President Obiageli Ezekwesili, took to the stage and helped lead the crowd in a chant of "Bring back our daughters."

Mr. Abdullahi had just a few hundred Twitter followers, but he is an enthusiastic tweeter. So, on April 23, he modified the slogan to "bring back our girls" and tweeted: "Yes #BringBackOurDaughters #BringBackOurGirls declared by @ obyezeks and all people at Port Harcourt World Book Capital 2014."

"I don't have a daughter so I thought it would be better to make it girls," Mr. Adbullahi said in an interview from Abuja on Thursday.

It was retweeted just 95 times. But one of those came from Ms. Ezekwesili, who has more than 125,000 followers.

She quickly adopted the hashtag and urged people to use it. She tweeted: "Lend your Voice to the Cause of our Girls. Please All, use the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls to keep the momentum UNTIL they are RESCUED."

The message soon took on a life of its own.

On April 23, the British Guardian newspaper published an article that was shared more than 35,000 times on Facebook and tweeted more than 3,500 times.

The biggest boost, according to Topsy social-media analytics, came on April 30, when Mr. Brown--the performer who pleaded guilty in 2009 to assaulting his girlfriend, Rihanna, the singer--tweeted the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag.

But soon it was CNN leading the charge. The top #BringBackOurGirls tweets for four of the first five days of May were all from CNN-related accounts.

So what has happened since the truth came out?

- Rama Mosley bowed out gracefully, saying she didn't take credit for the hashtag but became the face of the cause in the media because there were no photos of the abducted girls. She thinks the media in the United States wanted a face they could attach to such a human-interest story and her being in America made it easy.

- ABC deleted the headline "Los Angeles Mother of Two Creates Viral Hashtag" and posted an editor's note that read: "This story has been updated to reflect that #BringBackOurGirls appeared on Twitter prior to Ramaa Mosley's first tweet."

For me, the focus now is on what the Nigerian government with its allies from the UK, US, China and France and doing to rescue the abducted girls. I'm praying for them.

#Bringbackourgirls - Buhari Condemns Boko Haram and Their Abduction of School Girls

Posted: 09 May 2014 12:03 AM PDT

General Mohammadu Buhari, former military head of state in Nigeria and a leader in the All Progressive Congress (APC), released a press statement yesterday on Boko Haram and the missing Chibok girls. He roundly condemned the terrorist activities of Boko Haram and called them mindless bigots who are not followers of God. See his statement below...

Over the past few weeks, the abduction of the school girls at Chibok, Borno State has underscored the threat we have been facing as a nation in recent times from the actions of misguided persons masquerading as adherents of Islam.

Our hearts are with families who have lost loved ones in this cycle of senseless violence. We also empathize with the parents of children whose daughters are in the custody of a group of anarchists.

That horrific video posted on the Internet is a clear manifestation of the mindlessness of the bigots. It shows them for whom they are, such men cannot threaten nor should they be allowed to violate our sovereignty. It is clear from what they profess that they are not followers of God. They do not mean well for our country and her citizens. I am a Muslim, I am versed in the teaching of Christianity and I understand both religions to seek peaceful co-existence of all humanity.

I wish to reiterate that there is no justification whatsoever for this unrestrained disregard for the sanctity of human life. It has no place in the Holy Quran and neither does it have a place in the Holy Bible.

Let these people know that the entire civilized world is united against their terrorist act. We are grateful to the world for standing by Nigeria at this trying time. We hope and pray that the young ladies will be reunited with their respective families in the days to come.

While the Federal Government and the nation's Armed Forces are working to ensure citizens' safety under the present situation, we believe that more could still be done to ensure the safety of Nigerians and the Nigerian nation. We are therefore glad that the Federal Government has accepted international support in the search for the missing girls and for an end to the insurgency in parts of the country.

I fought for a united Nigeria. In my old age, I want my grand children, your grand children, our youths and indeed all Nigerians to benefit from a prosperous and united country devoid of sectarian violence whether home grown or imposed on us from outside.

Now is not the time to play politics. Now is also not the time to trade blames and amplify our ideological differences. The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and nothing should divide us as a people. I therefore urge all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to support the country in her effort to bring an end to this attack on defenceless citizens and indeed a united nation.

We must put aside all other considerations and ensure that our country Nigeria pulls together now so as to recover our sovereignty. After all, we all know that Nigeria is the ONLY country we have that we can call our own.
God help and bless Nigeria.

Thank you.
GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR
