Can There Ever Be a Positive Abortion Story? Emily Letts Shares Video of Her Procedure

Posted: 07 May 2014 12:38 PM PDT

25-year-old Emily Letts, an abortion counselor has shared a video of herself having a surgical abortion on YouTube, saying she wants it to help banish stigma surrounding abortion. Personally, I'm pro contraceptive and pro-life, and only pro-choice where certain externuating circumstances are involved, like extreme young age, rape, health impacts, etc.

If for instance, a 25 years old woman gets pregnant 'by mistake' for her boyfriend or a one-nighter, my first counsel if for her to keep it. If she however, does choose to have an abortion, I will not judge but support her. But I doubt there can be any 'positive' abortion stories, except for the life you make for yourself after it.

A positive life after abortion is one in which the woman is more self aware and better sexually educated, and makes wholesome reproductive choices. I believe that abstinence or finding a contraceptive that works with one's body is a better choice than abortion - whether chemical or surgical.

Emily Letts, who works at the Cherry Hill Women's Center in New Jersey, explains in an article for Cosmopolitan.com that despite being a sex educator, she hadn't been using any birth control and 'wound up pregnant' by mistake last November She also chose to have a surgical procedure than taking pills so she can be a better counselor at her job. She says of the abortion video on Youtube;

This is my story. This is ONLY my story. I do not pretend that it is anything more or anything less. I do not speak for everyone on this sensitive subject and I respect everyone's opinions as long as they do not force them onto others.

My dearest hope is that someone somewhere will see this and it will provide some guidance, strength, support, or whatever else they need in that moment. I want to tell that person that you are not alone. Having an abortion does not make you a bad person, a bad woman, a bad mother. Having an abortion does not make you guilty. It is simply one step in your reproductive story. You are not along. I am here for you. We are all here for you.

PLEASE PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO. Please help me spread it to all corners of the internet. 1 in 3 women will have or have had an abortion in their reproductive life. This video is for all of us.

In the three-minute YouTube video, Emily Letts is wheeled into the operating theater and then filmed from the waist up as doctors remove the embryo from her womb. She remains awake throughout, numbed only by local anesthetic. The video has prompted strong reactions from pro-life campaigners as well as those supporting Miss Letts' actions. What do you think?

Angelina Jolie Speaks on Marriage, Children and the Abducted Schoolgirls

Posted: 07 May 2014 11:44 AM PDT

Angelina Jolie recently opened up about marriage, her six children, and her rebellious twenties in an interview with ELLE magazine where she appears on the cover. The actress also answered questions about the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls in a video and lends her voice to the global cry to get them back.

In her Elle story, Angelina Jolie reveals that she and fiance Brad Pitt are now 'more interested in each other' than ever beforeand that she never thought she would find true love, especially during her controversial twenties.

'I never thought I'd have children, I never thought I'd be in love, I never thought I'd meet the right person,' Ms Jolie, who has been divorced twice, said. 'Having come from a broken home—you kind of accept that certain things feel like a fairy tale, and you just don't look for them.'
She says that rather than becoming uninterested in each other, her relationship with Mr Pitt, whom she got engaged to in April 2012, has evolved over time.
'You get together and you're two individuals and you feel inspired by each other, you challenge each other, you complement each other, drive each other beautifully crazy,' she explained of their dynamic.
'After all these years, we have history—and when you have history with somebody, you're friends in such a very real, deep way that there's such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together,' she added.

While Ms Jolie was no wallflower in her youth, she does feel that her famous antics, which included kissing her brother James Haven on the Oscars red carpet in 2000 and carrying ex-husband Billy Bob's blood around her neck on the red carpet, were misinterpreted.
She said that they came from a place that was not about 'a need to be destructive or rebellious—it's that need to find a full voice, to push open the walls around you.'
She says that as a young, curious person 'you want to be free. And as you start to feel that you are being corralled into a certain life, you kind of push against it. It may come out very strange, it may be interpreted wrong, but you're trying to find out who you are.'
Because she started working as an actress as the ripe age of seven, Ms Jolie says that her many scheduled engagements left her with a fear of leading 'a life half-lived.'

'I realized that very young—that a life where you don't live to your full potential, or you don't experiment, or you're afraid, or you hesitate, or there are things you know you should do but you just don't get around to them, is a life that I'd be miserable living, and the only way to feel that I'm on the right path is just to be true to myself, whatever that may be, and that tends to come with stepping out of something that's maybe safe or traditional,' she added.
It's interesting then, that Ms Jolie cast three of her children – Vivienne, Pax, and Zahara (whom she calls ZZ) – in her latest film Maleficent, which comes out on May 28.
She says that this decision came about because Vivienne seemed like the perfect child to be cast as a young Aurora – but that she would prefer her children pick any career but acting.

'Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn't keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn't [glorify it either]—we wouldn't make it a good thing or a bad thing,' she said.
'But I would really prefer they do something else. [Anyway] after two days of it, Brad and I were so stressed we never wanted to do it again,' she joked.
Luckily for them, daughter Shiloh opted out of a role in the film. 'I asked Shiloh about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face. She said she'd be a horned creature,' Ms Jolie said.

Brazil's Tallest Teen Gets Romantic Proposal From Her 5ft 4Inch Boyfriend

Posted: 07 May 2014 10:01 AM PDT

Brazil's tallest teen is set to become the world's tallest bride after her boyfriend who is of average height popped the 'm' question. Aspiring model Elisany da Cruz Silva - 6ft 8ins tall - has been dating 5ft 4ins Francinaldo da Silva Carvalho for more than three years. Francinaldo solidified their relationship by dropping to one knee after a romantic stroll along the beach and asking Elisany to marry him.

Remembering the romantic proposal, Elisany said: "I told him many times, 'do not ask me to marry you because my answer will be no' - I think that's what he was thinking.

"I was so nervous when I saw him there. I don't even know how I coped."

Construction worker Francinaldo added: "I have always wanted to go out with a tall girl and she came and fitted into that perfectly."

The couple are planning on a long engagement despite Elisany already having a dress for the big day.

"We think how will the preparations for the wedding be, the church, the best men and bridesmaids," added Francinaldo.

"We have taken just one step towards the wedding – which was me asking her to marry me. We are giving it some time to get it all in order."

The newly engaged couple have not always seen eye to eye and Francinaldo had to work hard to get the ring on Elisany's finger.

Elisany still draws stares while walking down the street where she has lived her entire life and is often referred to as the giant girl.

Francinaldo said: "I keep telling her to get out more so that people don't feel so curious about her. When we go for a walk people keep staring saying 'look at that giant girl'. It really bothers me because people don't have the consciousness of thinking that she's also a human being."

But despite drawing stares Francinaldo cannot wait to show off his new fiancée.

He added: "I am always boasting about being with her. Everyone thinks she is beautiful – my friends think she is beautiful. They always ask me to take her to meet them but she won't go because she's embarrassed. She is a person that is very different and I know I can make her happy.

"Our relationship is special because she understands me and I understand her."

Six Tips to Improve Your Sex Life With Your Spouse

Posted: 07 May 2014 09:04 AM PDT

Dr. Laurence Levine, a urologist and CMO at Promescent, says that some of the most common reasons married couples have sex less is lack of stamina, time constraints, and dissatisfaction with quantity and quality of sex. These are also common causes for cheating and divorce. He gave us 6 tips on how to have a better sex life with your spouse and how to improve your marriage.

Read - 5 Ways For Women to Enjoy Sex

1. Take long walks. Even if it means just spending an extra few minutes strolling the aisles at the grocery store, the exercise and intimacy created from walking together strikes a bond leading to better sex.

2. Be romantic. Share breakfast in bed on Sundays or plan a weekly date night. If you are on opposite shifts, try leaving each other love notes on the fridge or on the bathroom mirror. Any psychologist will tell you that a key to a happy marriage is making time just for the two of you.

3. Exercise. You don't need to do it together, but do it. Keep the blood flowing for both of you. Not only will you feel healthier, but you'll get the bonus endorphins and stamina to mix into your alone time.

4. No smoking. If your husband wants to have reliable and strong erections, that means a healthy vascular system. Smoking does nothing but slow both of you down.

5. Last longer. The average sexual experience is often not long enough for a woman to reach climax. "We call it the 'arousal gap,'" says Dr. Levine. But sex doesn't have to just mean penetration. Sometimes women just need some extra attention, and a good man will give her that.

6. Cut back on the alcohol. Anything more than 1-2 drinks can ruin the mood. Alcohol is a depressant. In higher doses, it can certainly hinder performance and emotions.

What would you add? Do you find your marriage and sex life suffer because you aren't following these tips?
