Should Jay Z Have Hit Solange? Are Men allowed to Fight Back?

Posted: 14 May 2014 07:15 PM PDT

I was watching "The View" yesterday where the ladies discussed the incident where Beyonce's sister Solange attacked Jay Z, throwing punches and kicks. They talked about the mocking #WhatDidJayZSay twitter speculations, and reasons why Beyonce did not intervene to stop her sister's attack.

It was baffling for me when Whoopi Goldberg felt Jay Z had every right to retaliate against Solange regardless of gender. She said,

"I think Solange was ready for him to do whatever he was going to do. This is the thing, if anybody hits you, you have the right — I know that many people are raised in a very different way but if a woman hits you, to me, you have the right to hit her back."

I didn't want to talk about this issue further, but some discussions on Facebook made me have a rethink, so I brought this for us to discuss. Not speculations on what caused the assault, or mocking of Jay Z which I'm totally against, but the gender aspect of the incident.

Personally, I can't even imagine any member of my family thinking to assault my husband, but if they pop a nut in their head and try it, I will shut it down very quickly.

But I can be calm sometimes, and I cannot completely say I don't get Beyonce's cool reaction, I have been like that once when two of my siblings were fighting, and we were all adults then too. So yes, no family is perfect, and sometimes things get physical. I think Jay Z and Beyonce handled themselves maturedly in a way that did not escalate the tension. Solange, of course, was totally out of order. That said I don't think she deserves a beat back from Jay Z.

I said this on Facebook when a friend called Solange out and said JayZ should have hit back;

Never any reason to hit a woman. Jay-Z did well. I do think Beyonce was on Solanges side. Or at least not on Jays.

Some comments called my view a double standard against men. But I still insist that while they should protect themselves, men should not hit women, and should not fight back as long as the woman is not attacking them with a weapon. When it comes to physicality, men are just so much bigger and stronger in most cases.

What do you think? Should Jay Z have hit Solange back? Should men be allowed to fight back if attacked by the women in their lives, their wives, girlfriend, sister, etc. Let's talk about it.

Hero Cat Saves Toddler From Evil Dog Attack

Posted: 14 May 2014 03:57 PM PDT

As can be seein the GIF above, a toddler riding his bike in their driveway was nearly mauled by a neighbor's aggressive dog but was saved by a cat. The dog was prevented from doing too much damage by Tara, the family's cat. The charged cat rushed out, knocked the much-larger dog down, and then chased it away. A surveillance camera captured the near-attack, which took place in California. The mom who was nearby thereby came out to scoop up the boy. Amazing!

From ABC 23:

The boy's mother told 23ABC the boy needed a few stitches, but he is doing fine this morning.

She also said the dog belonged to a neighbor and is now under observation.

Erika Triantafilo, Jeremy's mother, was nearby watering a tree when she heard his screams.

"I didn't really even realize what had happened until after when my husband showed me the surveillance video," Erika said.

Erika told 23ABC the boy needed a few stitches, but he is doing fine. Erika said it could have been much worse.

"I've never seen a cat do that," said Roger Triantafilo, Jeremy's father. "Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set."

25 Tips To Make Your Woman Happy and Keep Your Relationship Going

Posted: 14 May 2014 06:44 PM PDT

Many men have said that women are hard to understand and they find it very hard to figure out what their woman really wants and needs to keep their relationship happy and on track. I saw the tips below and decided to share. The 25 tips are not a rule book for each and every woman but they are a very good guide to work with. Guys, use the knowledge wisely, make your woman happy.

1. Small things count.
Some guys think all they have to do is surprise us once and they're set for life, but trust us, we're keeping note. Why not pick-up our favorite feel-good treat while you're on your way home this evening (clue, it's either wine, chocolate or cheese) or buy us that new book we've been talking about non-stop. Trust us, our appreciation will show.

2. The E-word.
Effort (a word no man is unfamiliar with) is always the hitch. Take out the trash, call us to see how our day was or do something really special for our anniversary. We're worth your time.

3. Confidence is hot, arrogance is NOT.
Every girl loves a man who's comfortable in his own skin. It makes us feel safe and protected and nothing feels sexier than that. But arrogance? We. Can't. Stand. It.

4. Chivalry is not dead.
Be old fashioned from time to time - we freaking love it. Pay on the first date, hold the door for us and walk us to the front door. Promise, we won't call you stage-five clinger.

5. Don't be a man-baby.
We're nurturing, yes. Women love taking care of their men and helping them out, but as soon as we feel like we're in mommy mode we want out. Most guys are kids at heart, but if we're doing more than a bit of coddling (i.e. cutting your food into little pieces) then there's definitely a BIG problem.

6. Listen and take interest.
After a hectic day all we want our man to do is listen. Women like to talk and pour their feelings out - it's a well known fact. We confide in you, because we trust you to make us feel better. So please just mute the TV, put down your beer and just listen dammit!

7. Be honest.
It's true when they say honesty is the best policy. Telling a fib might seem like a great idea now, but women always find out and when we do it ain't pretty. Most importantly, don't cheat and lie about it. That's just cowardly.

8. Make us a priority.
Women need to feel like they're more important than an Xbox. Of course men need to spend time with their friends and have some down time, but 3rd place isn't cool. If your girl doesn't feel like she's a priority then you're doing something very wrong buddy.

9. Notice the small things.
Everyone wants to be noticed by their partner. New hairstyle? New clothes? New dress size? New bra? Say something to acknowledge our effort, besides we (partially) did it for you!

10. Take it slow (in bed).
It can't get any worse than a man finishing before we've even started. Women take longer to reach orgasm and foreplay is key - take your time and don't rush. Thank you.

11. Turning down sex is NOT a big deal.
More often than not, if we turn down sex, it probably has nothing to do with you. We all have our down days - exhaustion, stress, worry? They're all major mood killers. It happens - don't take it personally.

12. Help us.
There's nothing more irritating than a lazy man. Try helping us out with household chores, the school run and daily errands. It's just as much your responsibility as it is ours.

13. Sometimes we need 'me time'.
Most of the time you can't get us to shut-up, but sometimes we need a little 'me time'. If your woman seems relaxed and says nothing's wrong, there probably isn't. Chill out dude.

14. Learn to say sorry.
Stop being so stubborn! If it's your fault and you're clearly in the wrong you owe it to us. Go on, say the magic word. Sorry can go a long way in relationships...

15. Sometimes we really do feel like sh*t.
Men think women are attention seekers most of the time, but sometimes we actually do feel like crap. Don't forget those painful cramps, headaches and PMS. Periods are hell to deal with - give us a break.

16. Toilet humor.
While poo talk is comical at times sending us a Snapchat of what you ate for dinner yesterday is not our idea of a hot date. Enough said.

17. Take care of your hygiene.
Brushed your teeth? Showered? Deodorized? You're a grown ass man, just do it already.

18. Know yourself.
We need to be on the same page. If a man knows what he wants and is self-assured they're a lot less likely to seek fulfilment in pointless things like getting wasted with mates and talking to 10 other chicks, (for which there's zero tolerance for by the way).

19. Do not forget our anniversary or birthday.
There's 365 days in a year and you only have to remember 2 of them, that's why we get pissed off. Set a reminder on your phone, write it in your planner or tell your mom if you have to (just don't tell us you did), but whatever you do, do NOT forget.

20. Respect us.
Some men don't value their partners as much as they should. Love her like it's your last day, appreciate her for all that she is and be grateful for everything she does. Think about it.

21. Pinterest is your answer to everything.
Pinterest is your saving grace. It's a collage of all the pretty things we wish we could have and it's your job to make our dreams come true. Use it to your advantage!

22. We're suckers for romance.
Never ask a girl if she wants flowers, or anything in fact. The answer is simply YES. Of course we do! Especially, if it's to do with rose petals, candles, dinner and wine.

23. Cook us dinner.
There's nothing sexier than a man who knows his way around the kitchen.

24. Things from the heart count.
If you've ever thought of making a super sweet gift like a homemade card, scrapbook or a mixed CD and thought, 'too cheesy', you're wrong! It's a great way of speaking from the heart especially since guys aren't always so good at it (verbally). We're guaranteed to love it.

25. You can't live without us.
Men often take women for granted, but in reality you're nothing without us! Who else would take care of you? Play dress up? Make you a better man? Just admit it.

Video - Romantic Nigerian Man Surprises Girlfriend With Flashmob Proposal

Posted: 14 May 2014 01:03 PM PDT

Who said Nigerian men were not romantic? Oluchi Madu and her fiance, Malechi, have shared on Instagram how their surprise proposal and engagement took place back in March. Malechi hired a quartert of dancers and with the knowledge of some of her colleagues, he pulled off a mini flashmob to the tune of Tuface's love song. This is coming after a bridesmaid gets engaged at a weddding [see here]. Check out the details, more pictures and video of Oluchi and Malechi's proposal below.

Oluchi narrated how the proposal went down thus;

I was supposed to be on a few days leave. My boss called me and asked me to come in for a meeting. I went to the office early to get other things done. I started hearing music outside so I thought an activation was going on. I was in my meeting wit my team nd I got dragged out to see what my colleague called ' the new company advert'. I saw 5 dancers dancing. I didnt understand. But it had been a weird day cos id bn getting calls from friends I hdnt hrd from in years. Everyone being super nice. They danced for about 10mins. Then 4 of the dancers opened their shirts nd underneath had white shirts with the inscriptions OLUCHI, WILL, YOU, MARRY and d boo came out with a shirt saying ME. Nd I said yes! #engaged #igbocouple

See more pictures the couple shared on Instagram in their happiness. Before now, their respective pages had contained no couple pics.

Oluchi tagged one of the pictures as follows, "To the man who loves me flaws and all. One day isn't enough to express how much u mean to me. I know I dont do this mushy stuff often but i'd step outta d box for u today. Don't get used to it o! Luv u tons."

Her fiance Manechi responded in the comments, "U are my Miss awesome and my heartbeat love u till infinity and beyond and i won't get used to this.lol"

He's obviously the more mushy one, and that's so sweet in a guy! He is the one that shared the "You and Me" graphic and he tagged their picture collage with lyrics from John Legend's "All of Me";

#yourmydownfall#yourmymuse#myworstdistraction#myrhythmandblues#icantstopsinging#itsringing#inmyheadforu#allofmelovesallofyou#

The newly engaged lady also shared a close up of her engagement rings saying;

Its so nice when all the "babe see this ring on instagram, isnt it pretty?" pays off. Turns out he was taking notes. #bling #closeup #engaged #bnbling #apbling #MalechiOluchi #igbocouple

Well I hope the single ladies are reading and taking notes. Show your boos the pics of rings you like so he knows what to pick when the time comes :)

RML congratulates the newly engaged couple and wishes them all the best as they begin to plan for the rest of their lives together. Watch the proposal video below..

Beyonce Removes Tattoo, Sparks Reports Marriage to Jay Z May be on Rocky Grounds

Posted: 14 May 2014 01:32 PM PDT

Beyonce's marriage to Jay-Z has recently come under intense media scrutiny with reports that they are having deep troubles. This is soon after her sister Solange attacked her husband over an unknown disagreement [see video here]. Though the couple have appeared together to show solidarity on the day the news of the fight broke, a closer look at pictures show that Beyonce has apparently had her IV wedding tattoo removed.

Beyonce with her engagement ring and tattoo

Beyonce had actually gotten the tattoo in place of a wedding ring and had it dedicated to her husband to symbolise their birthdays and their wedding date and now it seems she has had it removed. New photos of Beyonce appear to show a SCAR on her ring finger where her tattoo once sat.

Beyonce without her tattoo or ring

Beyonce, who was also seen hanging out at the Nets basketball with her husband on Saturday, is clearly seen not wearing her whopper of an engagement ring in the courtside snaps - and on closer inspection she looks to be nursing a nasty red scar in its place.

Beyonce with Jay Z and No tattoo

Just a few weeks ago Beyonce shared a picture of herself eating chicken on her Tumblr, with a plaster over that same finger, and some people are claiming that was when she had the tattoo lasered off.

No marriage is ever perfect, and I choose to share more of the positive stories because so much of what is out there are of the horrors of marriage. None of us may ever know what Beyonce and Jay Z's marriage is going through, may be she removed the tattoo because of an infection, maybe she's getting closer to God, who knows.

If indeed they are having deep issues, I pray they are able to work through it.

Dolly Parton's Secret Tattoos Are For Her Husband of almost 50 years

Posted: 14 May 2014 10:35 AM PDT

Dolly Parton on the Today show addressed rumors that she has secret tattoos all over her body and that is why she always wears long sleeved tops and dresses. The 68-year-old legendary country singer, whose songs, Jolene and My Coat of Many Colors, are among my favorite in the genre, said that while she doesn't have ink all over her body, she does have a few.

Dolly Parton clarified the rumor yesterday, telling Savannah Guthrie, "People said the other day that the reason you wear sleeves is that you have snake tattoos all over you, and I said, 'No, I don't'. I do have a few little tattoos, but they were mostly done to cover scars because I'm so fair. So it started with that, and I'm not really one to have tattoos, but I do have a few and they're not where you can see them. They're mostly for my husband."

Dolly Parton is godmother to Miley Cyrus, and has been married to her husband Carl Thomas Dean for almost fifty years! I wouldn't have expected someone so clean-cut like Dolly to be into tattoos but if there's any reason for tattoos, it should be such long-lasting love :)

Have you considered getting a tattoo to show your love for your significant other or to spice things up in the bedroom? Did you already get one?

Queen Latifah Dedicates Her Daily Show to #BringBackOurGirls Campaign

Queen Latifah in her daily talk show today, dedicated a segment to the #Bringbackourgirls awareness campaign. On the panel was Melissa Harris-Perry, Arianna Huffington and Rita Moreno. During this time, everyone in the show including those in the production room all carried a #bringbackourgirls sign. I think it's very thoughtful of them, millions of her viewers would have been reached.

May is Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention month

Posted: 14 May 2014 09:29 AM PDT

What do you know of Osteoporosis? If you're anything like me, then your answer is probably not much. I nly know the little in the TV ad for a drug to prevent against the bone disease. American Recall Center sent the infographic above to me and I decided to educate myself further and also share with my readers.

The American Recall Center is a brand new site devoted to providing health and wellness news in simple, straightforward terms. Their ultimate goal is to help our readers take complete charge of their health by being fully informed!

And for the Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention month, they want to help the cause by spreading awareness! They created this graphic that outlines some of the facts and risk factors about the disease. For example, nearly 75% of all hip fractures occur in women. This disease predominantly affects women, and so I felt very happy to share.

According to their Hip Replacement Factsheet;

Osteoporosis refers to a progressive loss of bone density, resulting in weaker bones that are more apt to break or fracture at even mild trauma. Aging, heredity, diet and lifestyle are all factors in osteoporosis, as are certain medications and medical conditions. Osteoporosis is a often a factor in hip fractures, which frequently lead to hip replacement surgery.

- One out of every two women and one in four men over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. The most serious osteoporotic fractures are hip fractures.

- The majority of those who experience hip fractures will require assistance in their day-to-day lives. Twenty percent of seniors who suffer a hip fracture die within a year.

- Due to an aging population and a lack of focus on bone health in the past, the number of hip fractures in the United States could double or triple by the year 2020.

- Nearly 75% of all hip fractures occur in women.

- Osteoporosis accounts for more time spent in the hospital than diseases like diabetes, heart attack and breast cancer among women over 45.

- Hip fractures cost more than $11 billion each year (approximately $37,000 per patient).

Osteoporosis can make hip replacement surgery more difficult in cases when the bone has deteriorated so much that it can't support the weight of the implant. It can also contribute to implant failure. Hip replacements that utilize a cementless femoral stem have a higher incidence of periprosthetic fracture in patients with osteoporosis, and total hip arthroplasty after a hip fracture may make dislocation more common.

I encourage my readers to inform themselves on this condition and take steps to protect their bones as they begin to get older.
