| Posted: 15 Mar 2014 04:07 PM PDT Her name Modupe Mariah Johnson might not ring a bell in the ears of Nollywood enthusiasts especially those of the Yoruba movie genre but just mention "Faliwerepe" and you see heads turning in her direction. Interview with City People Read Below: Can you tell us how you started acting? Actually it all started in the early 70s when I was still a teenager. I remember then, I loved watching the television and I eventually fell in love with most of the plays that were being aired at the time and something in me just loved the tube but I never knew it was going to be acting. Then I had a friend Bilikis who was fond of going for rehearsals and audition; one day she was going for an audition and when she told me, I said 'please kindly allow me to join you, I will like to see those stars in their real self' and we went there. I never knew I was going to be invited over to do a role, I think the leader of the group then, Tunde Owodunni was looking for someone that will act a particular role and by trial and error I was asked to interpret the role and that was it. From that outing I became an actress. As a very young lady, was there advancement from men of your time to lure you with s*x? Nothing like that then; in fact it was part of the rule of engagement that no male member of the group should be engaged in romancing a female member. It was a big taboo that must not be broken. That was why there was discipline then, you can't just say 'oh, I am dating this person or that person; you will pay for such discretion with a sack from the group. In fact the fear of knowing what your boss will do to you was enough to scare you off, it was such a well structured industry then unlike what obtains now. What was your parental reaction to your choosing acting? Was there support or resistance from them? Yes, then it was a trend for people to send their children to school and make Doctors, lawyers and teachers out of them but for me, I was interested in being an actress and my parent didn't give in to that. Don't forget I initially told you that I really loved the tube and I just love acting. My dad particularly rejected me being an actress; he wanted me to study and become maybe a Doctor or a lawyer, so it became a challenge for me on one hand and for him on the other hand. The good thing then was the fact that I was living with my father's elder sister at Ebute Metta in Lagos and she indulged me. But I could say there was resistance but maybe destiny just wanted it that way for me. And since then I made headway in acting and today the name Faliwerepe is an industry name that can never be toyed with. It is a brand on its own. Who gave you the name Faliwerepe and how did it stick to you? The name Faliwerepe came through the famous Yoruba soap of the late 80s and early 90s titled "Bata Wahala" by Ajimajasan. That soap had a very interesting storyline of a man who married 27 wives and I happen to be the last wife and I was the most troublesome and cantankerous in the house hold. And because of my cantankerous nature I was tagged as Faliwerepe which came from my name Falilat in the soap. People started calling me Fali-Werepe, meaning that I am troublesome and very, very prone to anger and all sort of things known to people of that nature. Werepe is a plant that once it touches your body, you will just be troubled all day long. So, in a nutshell, I got the name from Ajimajasan's film Bata Wahala (The crisis laden shoe) Can you say your inability to be educated in life have robbed on your success in the movie industry? Far from it, yes I can say I still feel guilty that I didn't get a full education but let me also tell you that nothing an educated person has gotten that I have not gotten through movie. Through acting I have raised educated children and travelled all over. I have built houses and when I say houses, I won't like to say maybe it is one or two. But at least I am a landlady through my gift of acting. I have travelled to several countries of the world and the last time I went to America I was even making jest of myself; I said when we were growing they used to sing that "Bata Re a dun koko-ka (2ce) to'o ba kawe re, bata re a dun koko ka" (Your shoe will make the Kokoka noise (2ce) if you read your book, your shoe will make the Koko ka noise". And I said, 'look at me, despite the fact that I didn't read my shoe is still doing ko-ko-ka . What if I now read (Laughter). But the fact remains that education is the best asset you can give a child, no matter how gifted the child is, you must give education to that child, for me, maybe my rare creativity as an actress made some way for me. My peculiar nature, my peculiar creativity and all that but not withstanding, I will always advise young people especially the female child to go to school. Life changes everyday and education remains the only current that will pay your life bills. What would you say are the major challenges of being a veteran actress especially with the emergence of young actresses all over town? I can't say one is outdated in stuff, you can not be taken out of your own stuff; there will never be two Faliwerepe, there will never be two Iyabo-Oko, there will never be two Mama Rainbow, you are what you are by the special grace of God. Yes, we reinvent ourselves because change is the only thing that will last a decade or a century. And for those emerging girls, we also try to educate them and put them through; life can never be rich without the advice of the elderly. You must listen to those who have seen it earlier before you, that is why God made it for us to have our fathers and mothers before we become adults. Talking about being a veteran actress, I will say that does not affect my stuff as an actress but in terms of make up, I am above 50 and at times, when your body is aging, things you do as a young person might start eluding you. For instance, I like laying my eye lash as a young girl but now, if I try doing it the thing will just slip up and become a total mess, so what I do is that I go along with my make-up artiste anywhere I go. You can see she is here with me (pointed to the fair complexioned lady) so that I will not be out of tune with reigning trends (Laughter). On the other hand, we have what we can call leadership challenge in the entire industry, right now our industry is devoid of sound leadership and that is robbing us of many opportunities. And lastly, the issue of piracy is one issue we have failed to find a solution to and that is exactly what is killing our industry. These pirates, I have said it times without number that if I know their addresses, I will personally go and beg them to please have mercy on us and treat us like their own children because we just have nowhere to go. And our Government, the Federal Government seems to be at the mercy of the pirates, they seem to be very powerless. It is the real reason why we have all turned penniless because if you spend fortune to do a movie and at the end of it all someone just duplicate your work and start selling below price, how do you recoup and who do you report to if Government itself is at their mercy. That is why I said I will need to locate their address and go beg them. TOP STORIES

| Posted: 15 Mar 2014 05:42 AM PDT Popular female talking drummer, Aralola Olumuyiwa (Ara), has been around for over a decade. In this interview with Tribune, she talks about her career, controversies and other issues. Excerpts When and how did you start drumming? It started for me from my nursery school days, and when I got into primary school in Warri, Delta State, I was the head drummer because I enjoyed drumming. The talking drum is actually somehow genetic for me because I'm from Ondo, but my mum is a descendant of the Alaafin of Oyo, Iba Abiodun Aderounmu. So you grew up in Warri? Yes. My father was a senior manager in one of the branches of the United Bank for Africa in Warri. What has Ara been up to lately? I don't like talking about my album anymore because it is long overdue; it's been over 20 years of my career and I have not released an album. Why is it taking you so long? I've recorded a number of times but I never got to release them. It's either I'm caught up with something and I have to be on the move. I am compiling the songs, and of course, I have an NGO that is called Ara Advocacy for Sustainable Water Development and Peace in Africa and I'm going to be attending loads of conferences across the world. I'll be lending my voice to issues pertaining to water, because water is a global issue. Don't you think your fans are actually willing to hear from you? They will hear from me. They should just give me a little more time. I'll be going on tour in Asia and I realised that it is high time I had my album. I would not be great to go on such a large continent without having a CD pack. Also, this year, my fans are going to see a different me because I'm rebranding; in the sense that I have carried my long braids (the longest in the world) for over 15 years. Why do you want to stop carrying the very long braids? My hairline is being affected; I need to restore my hair. So, for now, I am wearing a lot of wigs and that will definitely affect my costumes (which are African) but will now become cosmopolitan African. You once performed on stage with Stevie Wonder. What was the experience like? It was a beautiful experience, though that was a long time ago. It was one of those moments that helped boost my career. It created various openings for me. He (Stevie Wonder) invited me to Los Angeles and I recorded songs with him in his studio for a week. I even got to feature in one of the songs on his album. I learnt quite a lot from him. Stevie at the heights of his career is still very hardworking. That actually encouraged and inspired me. Every female Nigerian musician I've talked to believes that the Nigerian movie industry is very unfair to women. What do you have to say about this? Well, I would say it's unfair because they don't employ our services enough Why would you say that I don't know how to answer this question without stepping on anybody's toes. My genre of music is quite different, but they need to make use of female artistes more. Sometimes when you check out a list of artistes for a concert, it's all male. It's either the managers are not doing enough work or something is wrong. What has been your most embarrassing moment on stage? The one that readily comes to mind did not happen on stage; it was after the show that I realised that the costume I had on had moved and my boobs had slipped under. It was after I saw the picture that I realised what happened. Looking at the song you sang with TuFace, Olo Mi, it was about love. Have you ever had an awkward love experience? To be honest with you, I've even never celebrated a Valentine's Day, as romantic as I am! Does it mean love has never been fair to Ara? I would say a yes to that. Who is your best African designer and how do you come up with the designs you put on? Modella has been my designer for years. I have with Zizi, Jimmy King and Regalia. TOP STORIES

| Heartless! House Wife Loses Right Eye For Refusing To Sleep with her Neighbour (See Photo) Posted: 15 Mar 2014 04:52 AM PDT A mother of two and house wife (Mrs Amaka Ohanwe), has lost her right eye because she refused her neighbours s*xually advances. According to her, she was a very good friend of Kingsley Ohanwe, her neighbour who assaulted her, but when she noticed he was desperate to have s*x with her, she started avoiding him. He became aggressive and attacked her shortly after she started avoiding her. Doctors have said I can't see again with my right eye, she said. According To Pm News: A 35-year old man, Arinze Kingsley, has left a married woman, Mrs Amaka Ohanwe, partially blind when she allegedly refused his s*xual advances. Amaka was seriously injured in her right eye when she was allegedly beaten up by Kingsley at a beauty salon. She said after undergoing several operations, the doctors at Apapa General Hospital confirmed that she cannot see with the eye again. Following the assault, the police at Area 'B' Apapa arrested Kingsley and charged him with assault before Apapa Magistrate's Court after which he was remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. Both Amaka and Kingsley, who is still single, admitted that they were friends but Amaka said they were just friends not lovers. She said she stopped relating with Kingsley when she discovered that he was desperate to have s*x with her despite the fact that he knew that she was married and had two kids. She said after several attempts by him to sleep with her failed, he became aggressive and when she noticed that, she started avoiding him. Amaka said Kingsley eventually traced her to a salon at Pen Crescent, Apapa, Lagos where she went to have her hair done and attacked her in front of the beauty shop. "He waited for me outside the salon. When he saw me, he started abusing me after I refused his advances. I replied him and he hit my eye and threw me on the floor. He started hitting his head on my eyes until I started bleeding," she told the court. Amaka said it was their neighbours who came to her rescue and took her to the hospital, while Kingsley immediately started his motorcycle and rode off after attacking her. She alleged that after the attack, Kingsley boasted that nothing would happen to him because he has money to bail himself out of any difficult situation. Amaka reported the case to the police but alleged that she was asked to collect N30,000 for her eye operation in order to settle the matter out of court. Amaka said she had spent over N200,000 on the surgeries but they were not successful. She called on the state government to come to her aid and ensure justice was done in the matter. Meanwhile, when Kingsley was contacted, he admitted attacking Amaka but said he wanted to settle the matter out of court but she refused. When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding magistrate, Mrs O.A Adegbite, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was, however, remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions The matter was adjourned till 24 March. So Sad! What ur view on this??? TOP STORIES

| At Last! Popularl Fuji star Malaika admits dating Yoruba Actress Sikiratu Sindodo (See) Posted: 15 Mar 2014 04:11 PM PDT Fuji star Malaika reported dating Yoruba actress, Sikiratu Sindodo. Interview done by Encomium, he opened up on all these issues. It's been a success story for you, career wise. What's the secret of your success? There's no secret behind my success, it's just hard work and prayers. Like I said, it's been favour from God's side and hard work from my own side. When God does His part and man does his own too the result is unusual favour. It was reported that you are getting married soon to a new wife, is it true? There's nothing like that, it's not even in my thinking. It's unfair for people to just start fabricating lies about me that I want to marry a new wife. I'm a role model, a celebrity and musician. Any event I want to organize, there is no how I would not invite people around me. There is no such plan at the moment. People should dissociate me from such rumour. I'm not marrying anybody at the moment. My album is my main priority at the moment. My fans have been expecting Super Star album. My team is working hard to make sure the album comes out as soon as possible. My duet with Olamide, Bosenjo is still doing well. We are currently on radio tour. Tune to your favourite station, you will listen to the song. I don't really want to talk about damaging issues. Could it be that they are referring to Sikiratu Sindodo? I have already told you that any story about marriage now is a rumour. She admitted to us that you are dating, is it true? Yes, she's right. Can you marry her and will the romance lead to the altar? I don't plan for myself, everything will work the way God wants it. How many wives do you have presently? I only have two wives presently. TOP STORIES

| Finally , Nollywood star-actress Mercy Johnson unbanned! See The Reason!!! Posted: 15 Mar 2014 04:26 AM PDT Mercy Johnson-Okojie who was banned last year by the movie marketers has resumed work again. The embattled actress resumed work during the week after resolving her differences with the marketers cum producers. Confirming the good news to HVP, Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria,FVPMAN's spokesman, Mr. Norbert Ajaegbu said, "The disagreement between producers/marketers and Mercy Johnson finally ends following the FVPMAN's national working committee meeting, held on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Mercy having diligently concluded all the jobs in dispute leaves us with no choice than to accept her apology. She is one wonderful personality we would not want to join issues with. She knows when to say sorry. She has concluded all that we asked her to do. Any insistence on penalizing her, will then infer prejudice. We have directed our members to resume all the previous existing relationship with her. She has fully resumed all location activities without interruption. We are quite hopeful that circumstances such as the very one that caused the last disagreement will not repeat itself." Movie marketers last year resolved to ban Mercy Johnson from acting for being too expensive. But interestingly, since she resumed work again, insiders hinted that the actress has gotten not less than twelve scripts in the past one week. vanguardng TOP STORIES
