SHOCKER!!!!! Another baby manufacturing clinic discovered in Enugu!!

Posted: 09 Sep 2013 10:18 AM PDT

The proprietor of Nigeria's Moonlight Maternity Clinic was not interested in discussing allegations that he sells newborn babies, with boys fetching higher prices than the girls.
"I have nothing to say to you," Ben Akpudache, a stout 74-yeard-old, told AFP at the small, dimly lit clinic with concrete floors tucked between commercial shops in the southeastern city of Enugu.
"I can't just have people coming in and asking questions."
"Doctor" Akpudache, whose medical credentials are under question, had his clinic raided in July after a three-month sting operation in which the security forces discovered a so-called baby factory.
"We had our people posing as if they wanted to buy a child," Nigeria's Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) spokesman Denny Iwuckukwu told AFP.
Police had separately stormed his home in May, where they discovered that babies were also for sale.
The "factories" are usually small facilities parading as private medical clinics that house pregnant women and offer their children for sale. In some cases, young women have allegedly been held against their will and raped, with their newborns sold on the black market.
But security services say the majority of cases, including that of the Moonlight clinic, have seen unmarried women with unplanned pregnancies arrive voluntarily or through persuasion.
Their newborns are then sold for several thousand dollars, with boys fetching higher prices. The mother receives roughly $200 (150 euros).

Typical was Ebere Onwuchekwa, 29, who became emotional when asked about the sale of her son Prosper.
Speaking at the office of a child rights NGO, she said the father demanded she get an abortion, illegal in Nigeria, and she refused. Her mother ultimately brought in a "midwife", who delivered the baby then sold him for $1500.
"She took him away... He was a day old," said Onwuchekwa.
After learning what happened, her uncles tracked Prosper down and got him back. The 18-month-old sat quietly on his mother's lap as she spoke.
When asked about the woman who sold her son, a resentful Onwuchekwa said "she doesn't want me to say anything about what happened".
As for Akpudache, he is out on bail and his facility, which he insisted in a brief, tense encounter was a "registered maternity clinic", remains opens.
Authorities said it was not been shut down because they were waiting for the courts to take action, though the NCDC spokesman insisted Akpudache would face justice.
"Human beings should not be sold like animals," said Iwuckukwu.
When police stormed Akpudache's expansive, three-storey home in Ogui Eke village, roughly an hour outside Enugu, they found six pregnant young women.
In a video provided to AFP by the Enugu police, one of the women said she wanted to continue studying, not struggle as a single mother. Akpudache's offer to host her through the pregnancy then sell the newborn seemed a solution.
In the same video, Akpudache said he was just trying to "help people in need".
Despite a 2003 law against human trafficking, including selling children, it is Nigeria's third most common crime behind fraud and drug trafficking, the United Nations has said. The European Union has cited Nigeria as the African country where the scourge is most common.
The maximum sentence is life in prison but sentencing remains at the judges' discretion and offenders can get away with just a fine.
Baby trafficking, in particular, has intensified in the southeast, which is populated mainly by the Igbo ethnic group. The NCDC has several ongoing undercover operations targeting suspected baby trafficking rings in Enugu, underscoring the severity of the problem in this region.
The reasons given for why this "baby" market has developed here vary widely.
Some fear newborns are being sold to witchdoctors for rituals in a country where occult practices still occur. Some say fraudsters in the region had simply found another reliable way to earn cash.
But the security forces and activists said the majority of buyers are likely married couples struggling to conceive.
Oby Nwankwo, who spent years as a magistrates court judge in the southeast, said Igbo customs that place huge importance on male children may also play a role.
Widows and daughters have faced massive obstacles when trying to inherit family resources after the death of a patriarch, explained Nwankwo, also a member of a UN committee on discrimination against women (CEDAW).
In some cases, "if a man does not have a child, that's it. His brother or distant relative will inherit", said the ex-judge.
Nigerian courts have ruled against Igbo inheritance customs that discriminate against females, but the pressure on a couple to have a male heir remains intense.
Official adoption, managed by state governments in Nigeria, is excessively bureaucratic and involves a public record, a problem in a society where stigmas about adoption persist.
Iruka Nwokedi of the Women in Peace-Building Network in Enugu also blamed the intense pressure placed on having a son in the region.
"Most people want to go through the back door... they look for illegal means," said Nwokedi.

Borno Govt plans to demolish churches,christian-owned schools!!!

Posted: 09 Sep 2013 08:43 AM PDT

The Borno State Government has planned to demolish over 20 churches and christian-owned   schools in the state. It has been gathered that the demolition exercise would begin any moment from now.
Our findings revealed that the state government served a notice to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria informing them of the government's plan to acquire the site for a 1000 housing units.
The notice was contained in a leaflet from the office of the Borno State Ministry of Lands and Survey, dated August 20 and signed by one Musa Ummate (O/C Land Administration) on behalf of the Commissioner. The leaflet was entitled, 'Notice of acquisition and assessment/evaluation of structures on proposed site for 1000 Housing Units along Gubio Road Highway.

' It reads thus,
"I am directed to refer to you farmers and holders of structures on the proposed site for caption matter above and regret to inform you that the Executive Governor has, on the power conferred on him by Section (2)b of the Land Use Act 1978, directed through high powered committee on Construction Ref. no: HPCC/2500/HE/S/TEC/1 to notify you of his intention to acquire your farm lands and assessment/valuation of the structures on the proposed site situated along Gubio Road, Maiduguri.
"The acquisition is necessary in view of requirements of the land acquisition by the state government for overriding public interest to construct a Housing Esate. The affected farmers and holders of structures are to take note and appear on site for the above exercise."

But a CAN source said, "Over 20 churches and many schools will be affected. The plot of land on which the churches were built were bought from farmers and have the authority and certificate of the District Head in Maiduguri popularly called Bulama. The land was not under the ministry when it was bought."

"The Christians went for the meeting called by the governor and for several hours, the governor didn't come out to see them. It is always difficult for Christians to get a land in Maiduguri. Even after getting the land, the government won't give you Certificate of Occupancy.

They compensated Borno Muslims who are victims of Boko Haram. But how many Christians were compensated?"Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, who confirmed the sad development called on the Borno State Government to have a second thought. He said, "We have seen that eviction notice from the Borno State Government. We are all Nigerians and there are other places where the state government can develop. The areas being earmarked for demolition are already developed with churches and schools.

"We have enough problems at hand and we don't want to add another one. Christians have suffered enough in Borno State. If the state government wants to destroy churches and build any housing estate, no Christian will see it as a sign of progress." Asake vowed that CAN would take up the matter with Borno State Government as soon as it was confirmed that the letter actually came from the government.

"We condemn the action and I think government should be sensitive to what the Christians in that state are going through not to come and add another problem, through demolition.

"Christians have suffered enough in Borno State. If the state government wants to destroy churches and build any housing estate, no Christian will see it as a sign of progress."

Although, Asake disclosed that they had not been able to authenticate the source of the letter, he added "we are going to reach out to the state government to make sure that Christians don't lose their churches and lands.

"But we have no reason to doubt the source of the letter. We have suffered enough in Borno State and enough of all these things which are coming in another disguise.

"Borno State government should reconsider the decision to demolish churches and property because in Borno State, there are many vast lands. They should do that instead of going to these areas where Christians have settled. We are asking the Borno State government not to try it."

SHOCKER!!!! Three Farmers Suspected ritualists arrested by the Police!!! A Human head was also recovered!!

Posted: 09 Sep 2013 07:45 AM PDT

WHEN three young farmers of Gwari extraction in Niger state conspired to source for human head in their neighbourhood for money-making rituals purposes, hardly did it occur to them that the long arm of the law might soon catch up with them.
The  three suspects, whose names were given as Saleh  Ibrahim (35), Usman Lashi Sarki (30) and Dantala Doma, a.k.a. Operator, (25) years had conspired with other people which included a Fulani man simply identified as Gajere, now at large, who had allegedly given them a dried human skull to go and grind.

It was further learnt that another unidentified PHCN employee who is also on the run had promised to get the three suspects mercury to accomplish their aim.
Nemesis however caught up with them on Monday August 26, few hours after Ibrahim lured a 10-year-old boy, Ishaya Segi, from his father's farm at Amale village in Shiroro Local Government of the state, put him on his motorcycle and abducted him to Lashi village, also within the council area where his two other accomplices were waiting for him.
Saleh was said to have urged the boy to accompany him to his friend's place in the neighbourhood, after which he would bring him back to the same spot where he had picked him. The victim was said to have followed Saleh, unknown to him that he would never return alive.
A police source at the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department, Minna  informed Crime Reports that no sooner was the victim brought to Lashi village than the third suspect, Doma, brought out a very sharp cutlass and cut off the head. The head was removed from his body by Sarki who is said to be a son to the late village head of Lashi.
The source added that during interrogation, Sarki confessed that he was contracted to bring the 10-year-old boy's head by Gajere for money-making ritual.
It was further learnt that during police investigation, the boy's head was traced to Saleh's residence of Saleh while he later took the police to two other accomplices. The police were taken near river Erena in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state where the headless body of the boy was buried in a shallow grave.
According to Saleh, he initially resisted when Sarki informed him that one Gajere contacted him to bring a head of the little boy, but after convincing him, he decided to go out in search of a boy.
Efforts towards apprehending Gajere who contacted the three suspects for the job had not yielded any result as at the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the state's Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Richard Adamu Oguche, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said investigation into the matter had since commenced, after which the three suspects would be arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution on charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide.
He revealed that the command directed all police outposts within Kaffin-Koro Division and the DPO in Kaffin-Koro to reach out to the community leaders in the area to know if there was a reported case of missing child, an effort which yielded result on Friday 30 August 2013, when an Amale village-based farmer, Pa Segi Gayaga appeared at the state's police headquarters to identify the 10-year-old victim as his son.

#Childnotbride SAD NEWS!!!! Child bride, 8, dies of internal injuries on first night of forced marriage to groom five times her age!!!

Posted: 09 Sep 2013 07:05 AM PDT

Jewish girl wears golden ceremonial dress and gold and silver jewelry necklaces traditionally worn by Jewish brides in Yemen
An eight-year-old child bride has died in Yemen of internal bleeding sustained during her wedding night after being forced to marry a man five times her age, activists have claimed.
The girl, identified only as Rawan, died in the tribal area of Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia.
Activists are now calling for the groom, who is believed to be around 40 years old, and her family to be arrested so they can face justice in the courts.

Rural: The girl, identified only as Rawan, died in the tribal area of Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia

They say arrests would help put a stop to the practice of marrying very young girls to older men in the impoverished region.
Child bride: The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and has attracted the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages

'All those who supported such a crime should also be punished,' he added.
Another blogger, called Omar, wrote: 'Rawan's family members are not humans. They do not deserve to have children.'
Despite numerous  campaigns from many of the world's largest charities and NGOs, the issue of child brides remains a global concern.
There are currently some 57.5 million child brides across the world, 40 per cent of which married in India.
Forty-six per cent of women in India were married before the age of 18, according to the National Family Health Survey-3.
Meanwhile, in Africa, 42 per cent of girls were married before turning 18 compared to 29 per cent in Latin America and the Caribbean.
But the number of child brides is estimated to rise to 140 million by 2020 if current trends continue, 18.5 million of which will be under 15 years old, analysts warn.
Statistics show that girls living in poor households are almost twice as likely to marry before 18 than girls in higher income households.
And girls younger than 15 are also five times more likely to die in childbirth than women in their 20s.
But another blogger, called 'Sad', appeared more sympathetic to the custom. He wrote: 'Her family and her groom could have waited for some time before having this marriage,' Sad said.
'It was not fair at all and the marriage should not have happened even if some tribes believe that it is a good custom.'

The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and has attracted the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages.
Yemen's gripping poverty plays a role in hindering efforts to stamp out the practice, as poor families find themselves unable to say no to 'bride-prices' that can be hundreds of dollars for their daughters.
More than a quarter of Yemen's females marry before age 15, according to a report in 2010 by the Social Affairs Ministry.
Tribal custom also plays a role, including the belief that a young bride can be shaped into an obedient wife, bear more children and be kept away from temptation.
In September 2010, a 12-year-old Yemeni child-bride died after struggling for three days in labour to give birth, a local human rights organisation said.
Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.
