Hurray!!! "No Nigerian would be asked to pay £3,000" - British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Pocock Reveals!

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 10:11 AM PDT

Dr. Andrew Pocock

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Pocock, has said no Nigerian would be asked to pay £3,000 as fee for a British visa.
Pocock said this yesterday when he visited the Nigerian Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell, and to discuss ways in which more British companies can be encouraged to invest in the capital market.
He said, "The visa bond, as it is being called here, is not a £3,000 charge for a British Visa. That is not the case, it is not going to happen now and it is not going to happen in the future. Visa fee, which is what you pay for a visa, will not go to £3,000 or anywhere near it."
Reports had emerged earlier this year that the British government was planning to implement a new scheme under which some visitors from six commonwealth countries, including Nigeria, would be asked to pay a £3,000 cash bond in return for visitor visas that allow them to stay in the UK for up to six months.
"In the long run, we are interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services," an unnamed Home Office official had been quoted as saying in June.
The development had resulted in an outcry by nationals of the affected countries.

Jenri will spend several more months in America as he works on his speech and learns to understand what he hear

A seven-year-old boy from Guatemala received the gift of hearing on Monday and was soon moved to tears after hearing his parents speak for the very first time via Skype.
Jenri Rivera, who was born deaf, was able to travel to America for treatment thanks to the Ray of Hope Medical Missions, a not-for-profit group in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Three years ago Jenri had met Erin Van Oordt of Grand Rapids, Michigan, when was working in Guatemala as a volunteer.

Jenri Rivera's parents in Guatemala were delighted to see him and to hear that his procedure had been a succes
'There was something special about him from the beginning,' Van Oordt.
'I started talking to him, and he couldn't hear me. I knew my Spanish wasn't that bad, so I started asking around and they said he hasn't heard since he was little. I said we need to figure this out, and that's when we started the whole process.'
In order for Jenri to be eligible for a medical visa to get to the U.S., every part of the process had to be a donation including the $40,000 cochlear implant donated by Advanced Bionics and the procedure to install it, which was performed by Dr. Disher at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The implant was activated on Monday by Dr. Tina Sheehan of Focus Audiology and Hearing Services.

Finally Jenri could hear and to test him, Dr. Sheehan smacked her hand on the table and watched as he reacted with surprise.
'When I would tap on the desk, he would look,' Dr. Sheehan said.
'I tapped again, and he looked. I tapped a third time and he said, no! His reactions to the noises are an excellent sign that things are working.'
It was an extremely emotional moment for everyone as the young boy got to hear his parent's voices for the very first time.
Next, Jenri will spend several more months in America as he works on his speech and learns to understand what he hears.
With tears in her eyes, Erin Van Oordt told wane.com that she couldn't be happier with how things have worked out.
'I had a flashback to the first time I met him, when he couldn't hear me, and he could this time. Everything we've done in the past three years came flooding back. It was all worth it.'

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole sues magazine for N250m over sex allegation!!

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Monday dragged News of the People, a soft sell weekly magazine before a Benin High Court, asking for N250m as damages, for alleged libel.
Oshiomhole, in suit No B/556/2011, against Dockland Communications Limited, publishers of News of the People magazine, alleged that the content of a material published by the magazine in 2011, on the front page and page 19, with the headline, 'Oshiomhole's sex power exposed: Impregnates young girl six months after death of wife', libeled his person.
He further alleged that the defendant, among other things falsely wrote that he bought the said girl a jeep, that he was interfering in the academic activities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on behalf of the girl, that he used sexual performance enhancement drugs and that he had performed traditional marriage rites precedent to marriage between him and the said girl.
Oshiomhole, whose suit is before Justice (Mrs.) Efe Ikponmwonba, alleged that the said edition containing the libellous piece was widely circulated, to coincide with preparations for one of his daughter's wedding.

Kanye West buys $2 million(N323m) Cars that can electrify paparazzi and withstand chemical attacks

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 08:31 AM PDT

Rich and famous Americans are increasingly choosing to travel in armoured vehicles with features life electrified doorhandles and sealed ventilation systems to protect against gas attacks.
Rap stars Kanye West and T.I. and actor Sacha Baron Cohen are among the jittery stars to have invested in armoured cars built, in many cases, to withstand even large-calibre ordinance.
An executive at one company catering to such security conscious clients says that demand in the U.S. has soared particularly in the past five years, as inequality has risen after the banking crisis.

Overkill? A Latvian-made Prombron Iron Diamond, two of which have just been bought by Kanye West

Jason Forston, vice president of Texas Armoring, credited 'the climate of fear right now — the growing gap between the haves and the have-nots' for the surge in sales.
His firm strips vehicles back to the bare bones and installs not only armour plating, but also gadgets like electrified door handles to discourage carjackers and over-zealous paparrazzi.

The cars, which look virtually indistinguishable to other vehicles, can take two to three months to complete, at a cost of up to $100,000.
Security conscious: Rapper Kanye West recently splashed out on two Prombron Iron Diamond armoured cars costing around $1.2million each

Mr Forston told The Hollywood Reporter that a 'large part' of his customers are 'celebrities, pro athletes and rock stars', but they also have many buyers who are 'people not in the spotlight'.
Many stars, particularly those involved in the gangster-fetishising mainstream rap music industry, may be mindful of the fate of Christopher Wallace.
Wallace, better known by his artist name Biggie Smalls, was leaving a Vibe magazine party Los Angeles party in 1997 when a car pulled up beside his his. Its driver opened fire, spraying the door of Wallace's Suburban with 9mm bullets.
The star was hit four times and killed. He was just 24 years old.
Memories of Wallace's fate, and the explosion in carjacking after the LA riots five years earlier, have been among the best advertising for armoured vehicles. But there is no denying they are also an ostentatious status symbol.
One of the most extreme examples is the Prombron Iron Diamond made by Latvia's Dartz Motorz, the same company that built Sacha Baron Cohen's gold-plated presidential SUV featured in The Dictator.
Kanye West recently ordered two Iron Diamonds at a staggering cost of $1.2million (£750,000) each, car website Jalopnik reported.
It's not only specialist manufacturers who are meeting the demand. Bentley, BMW and Mercedes, among others, all quietly make armoured versions of their upmarket vehicles.
BMW boasts that its 7 Series High Security not only offers 'an unforgettable driving experience' but is also 'designed to meet the highest protection standards'.
As well as being able to withstand high-velocity, armour-piercing rounds, the car is equipped with run-flat tyres and sealed ventilation to keep the air inside fresh while all around are dying from chemical gas.
Meanwhile, San Antonio-based Texas Armoring has custom built bulletproof vehicles for the likes of Steven Seagal and T.I.

But are all these features necessary? Aaron Cohen, director of Hollywood's IMS Security, which secures the homes of many high-profile celebrities, thinks not.
'Statistically, with the exception of a few cases, I don't think there's a need for it,' he said, adding that much of what the cars come equipped with is 'overkill'.
But Robert Siciliano, a New York-based security consultant, disagrees. He pointed out that a 25 cent bullet will penetrate a non-armoured vehicle 'pretty efficiently'.
For stars earning many millions of dollars a year like Kanye West, then, spending a fraction of that on an armoured car doesn't seem like that silly.
He added: 'I bet Biggie Smalls' mum wishes he had

All I see through out my sleep are the shots I took and those that I felt I should have done differently. Woke up this morning and all I have in my head is the deadline of the Trailer release which is October 1 2013, in about 11 days and the completion of the whole project. Check-out the Beauty Secrets of The Rich,Famous and ever dazzling diva – Tiwa Savage

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 06:39 AM PDT

POP star and music sensation, Tiwa Savage has taken the Nigerian music scene by storm.  The long limbed and lithe dark damsel is not only an exotic stunner but she can actually sing.  With her sensual style the LA returnee is in high demand at live show performances and even though she had practically lost her voice from a marathon weekend performance the night before, she graciously took sometime out to spill some of her beauty secrets…

Can you tell me three beauty items that you can't do without?

That would be MAC powder, lip-gloss and mascara…

All MAC?

Yes…

Is there any reason why you like MAC so much?

Over the years I've tried lots of other products and Mac just seems to go so well with my skin type and tone.

And are there any products that you would never use?

No, not really…I can't say I really experiment to have really used something that has had an adverse effect on me…I like simplicity, anyway.  So, I don't use a lot of things.

Do you have any other favourite brands, like for foundation, etc?

Not really…I like Mac and I tend to stick with it.  I don't really use foundation, just the powder.  But yes, all Mac.

What is your skincare regime like?

I use Dermalogica products.  I use the facial wash, morning and night.  And then I use the moisturizer and that's' it.  Every once in a while I have a facial.

That's a very simple regime.  So, you don't really face any challenges as far as your skin type is concerned?

No, hardly.

What is your skin type?

I actually have normal skin.

That's quite lucky.  So, no challenge or concerns?

No…I only have the occasional spot at that time of the month, and it's usually j
ust one spot.  So, I don't even use anything for it because it goes away on its own.

But in spite of this, do you have things like facials?

Oh yes, I have a micro dermal facial at Bagazia in Lagos once a month.

Do you diet?

No, I don't diet at all. I just eat everything in moderation.

So, how do you keep your figure?  Do you exercise, go to the gym?

No, I don't do any of that either. I don't really like gyms and apart from the fact that I believe I have a fast metabolism, all the rehearsing and performing I do as a performer is almost like a workout itself.  When I rehearse on the average, it's for an hour a day, but don't forget that on live performances there is a lot of energetic dancing and moving about.  You sweat and it really does feel like a workout.

What's your dress size?

I am a UK size 8 or 10.

You are a very busy young lady at the moment, how do you relax?

Thank you, I'd say watching movies and shopping. I like watching movies at home, I like chick flicks and Afro-American movies like Love Jones and The Best Man. I don't really shop in Lagos…but usually when I'm back in L.A, I like to go to the mall, the big shopping centres and shop.

How do you pamper yourself?

I like to go for spas and again I usually go to Bagazia.

Do you have a favourite perfume?

I think I have phase of moods but right now I really love Gucci by Gucci. I bought it on the spur of the moment at the airport when I was travelling, and it turned out that I really like it.

Do you have a favourite colour?

No, I can't say I do.  I don't really have a colour that I don't like either.  It really depends on my mood.  Sometimes, I would really like to wear really bold and bright colours.  And then at other times, I just want to wear black.

Do you prefer lipstick to lip-gloss?

I like lip-gloss…I like the shine in gloss.

What things do you usually like to do to your hair?

I usually have a long weave. But I like weaving my own hair…my own natural hair is actually quite long. Before I started performing, I used to wear a natural. But as a performer, you add all kinds of things to it as well. Being under the intense lights, I do the long weave.  It's very convenient and it actually protects my natural hair. If I did all the things I do to my own hair it would definitely break.

What's the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?

Umm (thinks hard) Probably a Louis Vuitton bag.

What's your fashion fetish?

I like shoes, I like all kinds of shoes.  When I am not performing or just going out somewhere not too formal I like sandals, slippers, loafers.  I have quite a lot of shoes. I can't really put a figure on it but I have a lot of shoes both here and at home in L.A.  I have a large number still in their boxes, unworn.  I like shoes.  The only kind of shoes I don't really like are wedges.

Do you have a favourite designer?

I have to say I am totally in love with Nigerian designers.  They are so creative and vibrant.  I like Bridget Awosika.  I like Teju Doya and Grey.

What about fashion icons, people you admire for their fashion sense?

I like all the Kardashian sisters, they all together and individually combine all the elements of style that I like –glam, high fashion and the girl next door.

What do you like most about yourself?

My legs.

And least?

Emm…I don't really like my ears.

Really, why?

I have tiny ears and I think I am a little self conscious about them.

I think it is better than having large ears…

(Laughing) Yes, you are right.

What wouldn't you be caught dead wearing?

Fur…I am not a big fan of fur.

But considering that you are living in Nigeria fur would be a crazy choice anyway.  What wouldn't you be caught dead in Nigeria?

Leather.

Ok.  Would plastic surgery ever be an option for you?

No.

Why not?

I am very content with the way I look at the moment.

What about in 10, 20 years?  Will you still feel the same way…

I hope so. No.  But seriously, I don't think I would ever resort to plastic surgery unless God forbid I had an accident or something like that and had to do it for medical reasons.  I think that is the only circumstances that would make me even think about it

SHOCKER!!: 8-Year-Old Boy Marries 61-Year-Old Woman.!! [MUST READ]

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 06:12 AM PDT

The bride was 61 years old and the groom was an eight-year-old boy! Both families were present at the wedding of Sanele Masilela (8) and Helen Shabangu (61) and the bride's husband and her five children were also at the wedding in Zimbabwe.

The boy's aunt, Patience Masilela (46), explained why the wedding took place.

She said: "The boy was named after his late grandfather who never had a white wedding, so the ancestors told the boy to get married and he chose Helen to be his bride. The family took his desire to get married very seriously. They paid for the bride in March last year and spent a lot on the wedding because they believed it was what the ancestors wanted."

The bride said: "I'm married and have five kids of my own, but I know that this is what the ancestors wanted – and now they are happy. It is a ritual. We are just playing now, but it is a sign that he will get married one day."

The young groom said: "I told my mother that I wanted to get married because I really did want to. I chose her because I love her and I'm happy that I married her – but I will go to school and study hard. When I'm older I will marry a lady my own age."

The bride's long-time husband, Alfred Shabangu (65), said that he never had a problem with her marrying the boy because he too knew that it was what the ancestors wanted. My kids and I are happy. We don't have any problems with it," he said.

However, some community members said they were shocked.

One woman said: "How can a family go this far for the ancestors? It shows that people do take messages from the ancestors seriously."

This was a not a legal marriage – it was only done for ritual purposes. The happy couple seal their marriage with a kiss.

CHECK-OUT THE HIGHEST PAID NIGERIAN HIP-HOP ARTISTES!!

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 05:41 AM PDT

hip
Peter and Paul Okoye famously known as P-Square are the highest paid hip-hop artistes right now, ENCOMIUM Weekly findings have revealed. The Okoyes are currently charging between N9 and N10 million for a show within Nigeria. Apart from information gathered from the source close to the duo, independent music promoters/artiste managers also confirmed this, declaring the Koko master, D'Banj as the second highest paid artiste. The DB Record boss charges between N6 and N7 million as a standard show fee.
"Before the split of Mo'Hits, it used to be D'Banj. When D'Banj was charging between N7 and N8 million, P-Square's fee was N5 million", a veteran music manager affirmed, adding, "Right now, it's P-Square."
The afro-pop king, 2Face Idibia is the third highest paid. Although, 2Face's performance fee has not been consistent, it's within N5 and N6 million.
Industry sources told ENCOMIUM Weekly that 2Baba, as he's fondly addressed, easily adjust fees because of the love he has for fans. "I agreed that he's the third because he loves what he knows how to do best than the money. He's man of the people and he loves to reach out to the people. He's always happy when he's on stage."
Star Boyz owner, Wizkid, who stormed the industry three years ago, rose to become the fourth highest paid music star, collecting between N4 and N5 million. Although, the Jaiye Jaiye artiste has not featured in any big show in recent times, he also told ENCOMIUM Weekly in a recent interview that he charges N4 to N5 million.
Female singer, Omawumi Megbele is the highest paid female star. She collects N3 million alongside some male artistes, including Flavour, Timayah and the rave of the moment, Olamide. Others are Darey Art Alade, Duncan Mighty, and Chocolate Music artistes, M.I and Ice-Prince.
The likes of Kukere crooner, Iyanya, Davido, Wande Coal and Tiwa Savage are in the league of artistes that go for N2.5 million, while D'Prince, Dr.Sid and one time highest earning artiste, 9ice collect N2 million respectively.
Aside artistes that still receive less than N1 million, Naeto C and Waje's fee is N1.5 million.
"Basically, each artiste has a standard fee for gigs, concerts but for private parties such as birthday, wedding, etc, it varies. Some people would call for reduction simply because they are individuals, not brands. It depends on the artistes whether to accept or not. What I know is that it's always fixed", said an artiste manager.

1- Psquare – N10million
2- D'Banj  -  N 8million
3- 2Face   – N6million
4- Wizkid – N5million
5- Omawumi, Darey, Duncan Mighty    Olamide, Timayah,  Flavour, M.I, Ice-Prince – N3 million

SAD NEWS!! Trader(WOMAN) bathed with acid while asleep!!

Posted: 26 Sep 2013 05:29 AM PDT

Sherifat, before being bathed with the substance
For about five months, the Agbaje family of Ifako, Gbagada, Lagos State, has been battling to find an explanation to the tragedy that has befallen it.
The family members said while they were seeking a solution to the tragedy, they had sought the aid of the Ogun State Police Command to unravel the circumstances surrounding their challenge.
The mother of the house, Mrs. Sherrifat Agbaje was attacked with acid while she was sleeping on her bed on April 23, 2013.
Sherifat, a fish seller, said she was in a rented apartment in the Ifo area of Ogun State and was fast asleep when an unknown assailant crept up to her window in the middle of the night and bathed her with acid.
The mother of six is currently in pains as her face, chest and arms were severely burned in the attack. She, however, miraculously escaped being blinded.
Her five-year-old daughter, Kehinde, who was sleeping beside her, was also lucky as she escaped with a few burns to her back and arms.
Sherifat told PUNCH Metro that it had been her practice for three years to travel to Ifo. Ogun State, every Monday to sell fish and return home to her husband at Ifako, Lagos, on Saturdays.
Sherifat said, "There was nothing unusual about that day. Like any typical day, I went to the market to sell fish. I didn't sell much  because there was a free-for-all among the area boys. It disrupted our business.
"My eldest daughter, Omowunmi, was, however, able to make more sales by hawking the fish around the market area. Three of my children were with me then."
At the end of the day, Sherifat went back to her apartment in Ifo and watched the TV with her children until 12am.
She said Kehinde and her twin, Taiwo, had persuaded her to let them sleep in her bed, but she insisted that they must sleep on the floor.
It was learnt that the room had six windows, which were made with wood. All the windows were closed on that night except one. It faced Sherifat's bed.
She said, "I had slept for about 30 minutes when I felt something hot on my body. Initially, I thought it was fire and I started screaming.
"My screams woke up Omowunmi. She took one look at my body and started shouting that somebody had poured something on me. That was when it dawned on me that my house was not on fire.
"In the process of trying to shake off whatever had been poured on me, some drops of the acid poured on Kehinde, who had come back to sleep beside me."
Sherifat's neighours came out to find out what the problem was. They also searched the neighbourhood, but no one was caught in connection with the incident
In the morning, the case was reported at the Ifo Police Station. Till date, the mystery had yet to be unraveled by the police.
Her husband, Tunde, told PUNCH Metro that he was alerted to the incident the same day at 3am.
He said, "It was Omowunmi who called me.  At dawn, I set out for Ifo and met my wife at a catholic hospital where she had been taken to. The hospital said the burns were serious and transferred her to the General Hospital, Sango.
"It has been tough for us ever since. I dig boreholes for a living and without my wife's support, taking care of our six children has been difficult. I do not know what would have made someone attack my wife with acid. To the best of my knowledge, she has no problem with anyone to warrant any attack.
"Now, my children's education is on hold. They can no longer attend school. All our finances are geared towards restoring my wife to normalcy."
He said some doctors at the general hospital had advised that Sherifat would require some surgery in India to repair the damage to her body. He added, "But I don't have money."
The Ogun State Police Relations  Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.
