SAD NEWS!! 25-hour rain kills 7,submerged 30 houses in benin and ibadan!

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 09:38 AM PDT

A 25-hour heavy rain across three states left seven people dead in Ibadan, Oyo State capital and 30 houses submerged in Benin, Edo State, while paralysing business activities in the states.
The rain, which started in the evening of Sunday and continued for most part of Monday, resulted in traffic snarls in all the affected cities and towns, leaving many commuters stranded.
In Ibadan, although the Oyo State police command confirmed only two people dead in Orita Challenge area of the city, residents of some communities in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state claimed five other people were swept away while attempting to cross a bridge, which they did not know had collapsed.
One of the victims, said to be an unidentified elderly man, was said to have disembarked from a commercial motorcycle and had attempted to cross the flooded bridge at LAD Hospital area at about 8.00 a.m on Monday.
He reportedly died when he slipped and hit his head on the slab of the bridge.
The second incident, which occurred at about 11.30 a.m, involved a commercial motorcyclist who also attempted to cross the flooded bridge, as the water swept him and his female passenger off.
Though the passenger was rescued, the okada rider was not fortunate, as he and his motorcycle were swept away.
His body was, however, found around 2.30 p.m about 200 metres away from the spot where he was swept off by the flood.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the remains of the two victims had been deposited at the State Hospital mortuary at Ring Road, while the female passenger was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa, who confirmed the story, said he had instructed his men to cordon off the place so as to prevent further disaster.
It was gathered that the policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Orita Challenge division, Daniel Alao, were still securing the bridge as of the time of filing this report.
In Benin, the Edo State capital, the rain, that started at about 7.00 a.m, left no fewer than 15 houses submerged at Azinge Crescent, Ihama Road, GRA, while, at least, three houses were nearly submerged at Slaughter Street in Aduwawa.
At Aiguobasinmwin, the Customary Court of Appeal and the secretariat of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) were affected, while some houses and vehicles were submerged in the area.
It was the same story at Oza Street, off Sokponba Road in the Edo State capital, as many vehicles were trapped and damaged inside the flood at Ihama, Adesuwa and adjoining streets of Sapele Road
Businesses were paralysed in notable commercial areas such as Ring Road, Forestry, Third Junction and New Benin, as retail outlets and stores were locked as a result of the high intensity of the rain.
Other affected areas were Ugbioyokho, GRA, Ikpoba Hill, College Road, Ekenwan Road, Textile Mills and Aduwawa.
Residents also stayed indoors, as many roads were impassable, while people in flooded houses were seen trying to rescue their belongings from the flood.
A woman, Cordelia Igbe, said her belongings and that of her neighbours, including their houses, were submerged in the flood.
"I was in the office when I received a phone call from my neighbour to come home quickly, as flood had entered my apartment.
"I had to take excuse from my boss and rushed home. What I saw was not what I bargained for at all. I am really confused, I don't know what to do," she lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, the rain had not stopped and the effect could not be fully quantified.
When contacted on Monday afternoon, the state Commissioner for Environment, Clem Agba, said he was in the state executive council meeting and could not say anything because he had not been properly briefed on the situation.
In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the rain, which spanned over 20 hours, disrupted socio-economic activities in the state capital, causing gridlock in some areas.
Though there was no recorded casualty, the rain prevented pupils of private schools, who had already resumed for the new academic session, from going to school.
Similarly, some civil servants found it difficult to resume at their duty posts in time, owing to the incessant rain, as commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada could not operate.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the prolonged rain would have wreaked havoc if not for the dredging of streams and other water channels within the city by the state government.

"I am single and searching" - Rita Dominic Reveals!

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 09:06 AM PDT

Unknown to many of her fans, one of her biggest heart aches giving her sleepless nights is her single status. And the Imo State-born star, who recently clocked 38, has finally bared her mind on the circumstances that led to her being single and searching at almost four scores on earth.
"I don't talk about my personal life because some years ago, I was in this relationship that became public, and the press killed it. The relationship didn't work out because the press put a lot of pressure on it and it didn't work out; since then I decided to guard my personal life jealously.
"After that relationship I met somebody else and we dated for four years. We thought we were almost going to get married but it didn't work out. I met somebody else and it didn't work out again so I decided to just concentrate on my work. I embarked on a whole lot of projects, now I'm through with them and I think I am now ready for another. I am single and searching," she said in a chat with Toolz on the Juice.

MEET Nigeria Top 5 Richest Pastors and How Much They Are Worth!!!

Nigeria's the Top 5 Richest Pastors and How Much They Are Worth

These days, millions of souls, desperate for financial breakthroughs, miracles and healing, all rush to the church for redemption.

God is good, especially if you're a Nigerian pastor with some business savvy.
And while the bible expressly states that salvation is free, at times it comes with a cost: offerings, tithes, gifts to spiritual leaders, and a directive to buy literature and other products created by men of God.
Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting people to Heaven; they've devised intelligent ways to make good money while reaching out to souls.
Take Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for example. He is the founder and lead pastor of the Christ Embassy, a thriving congregation with branches in Nigeria, South Africa, London, Canada and the United States.
His publishing company, Loveworld Publications, publishes 'Rhapsody of Realities,' a monthly devotional he co-authors with his wife.
It sells over 2 million copies every month at $1 apiece. He also owns television stations, newspapers, magazines, a hotel, a fast-food chain, and more.
Many other Nigerian pastors are similarly building multi-million dollar empires from their churches.
Today, pastors fly around in private jets, drive fancy cars like Daimlers, Porsches and BMWs, don Rolexes and Patek Phillipes, and own breathtaking mansions all over the world.
After the blog post I wrote in May about Nigerian pastors owning private jets, I was bombarded with emails from readers requesting to know the richest pastors in Nigeria.
So I set out to investigate the assets of some of Nigeria's most prominent pastors, and I came up with conservative estimates of their fortunes.
I contacted representatives for all of the pastors and all except Matthew Ashimolowo's representative confirmed ownership of the assets I list. Representatives for Pastor Ashimolowo did not respond to n

Bishop David Oyedepo

Affiliation: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, aka Winners Chapel
Estimated net worth: $190 million
David Oyedepo is Nigeria's wealthiest preacher. Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa's largest congregations.
The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa's largest worship center, with a seating capacity of 50,000.
Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States.
He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books (which are often centered on prosperity).
He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria's leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Church: Believers' Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a Christ Embassy
Estimated net worth: $100 million – $120 million
Last year, the charismatic preacher was at the center of a $35 million money laundering case in which he was accused of siphoning funds from his church to foreign banks.
Pastor Chris pleaded no wrongdoing and the case was eventually dismissed.
His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than 40,000 members, several of whom are successful business executives and politicians.
Oyakhilome's diversified interests include newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real estate.
His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the world on a 24 hour basis.

Prophet Temitope Joshua

Estimated net worth: $60 million – $80 million
Nigeria's most controversial clergyman is also one of its richest and most philanthropic.
T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in 1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays.
The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of difficult to cure diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis.
For miracle-craving worshippers, it's the perfect seduction. The church currently has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece.
In the past three years, he has given over $20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants.
He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network, and was close friends with late Ghanaian President Atta Mills.

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo

Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC)
Estimated net worth: $25 million – $50 million
In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and decided to set up his own church instead.
Today, his Kingsway International Christian Center is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom.
In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10 million and assets worth $40 million.
Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo media, which churns out Christian literature and documentaries.
Ashimolowo's representatives did not respond to a request confirming his net worth and ownership of all these assets.

Chris Okotie

Church: Household of God Church
Net worth: $15 million -$25 million
Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced the bible and set up the Household of God Church, one of Nigeria's most flamboyant congregations.
His 5,000 member church consists predominantly of Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people.
He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a political party he founded and funds.
An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600, Hummer and Porsche among several others.

Two Unilorin students construct aircraft prototype (MUST SEE)

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 08:03 AM PDT

This is not the aircraft..this is just a typical prototype!
The students created the prototype as their final year project.
Two 500-level students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ilorin, Ali David and Patrick Effiong, have constructed an aircraft prototype.
The duo told journalists in Ilorin that they had nurtured the passion to construct the aircraft when they were in 100 level, adding that it was now their final year project.
Mr. David noted that many of his colleagues were skeptical when they first broached the subject, adding that they were not deterred by the challenges they faced.
"What we are actually working on is a machine that will lift up itself through the law of aerodynamics and having an engine, a propeller and the fuselage," he added.
Mr. Effiong, on his part, said: "With some of our lecturers backing us, we were motivated; we decided that we can carry out the construction.
"Ali brought the idea to me that he had the dream of constructing an aircraft, but I didn't really buy the idea then and I thought he had forgotten about it.
"So when we got to 400 level, he raised the idea again.''
Also speaking with newsmen, the project supervisor, Tajudeen Ajiboye, said the students had demonstrated a high level of intellectualism inspite of the challenges they faced.
Mr. Ajiboye, who said the students were faced with the problems of materials and manpower at the initial stage, commended them for their tenacity to accomplish the project.

(MUST READ) Why FG wants ASUU strike to continue!!

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 06:14 AM PDT

Nigerian universities have been buffeted with agonising months of strikes for over a decade and until now, the story is pretty much the same. Government is still unwilling to give the education sector a shot in the arm.
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been on strike since June 30 and has dialogued with FG over 11 times, albeit, inconclusively. This underscores the lukewarm posture of government towards the striking lecturers and from ASUU's body language and utterances, they have made it abundantly clear to anyone who cares to listen that they are ready to continue the strike even if it takes years, insisting that their decision was adequately taken in a bid to revitalise Nigerian universities.
The bone of contention is lucid in itself. An agreement was reached in 2009 that all federal universities would require a total sum of N1.5 trillion spread over three years (2009-2011) to address the rot and decay in the universities. But, in the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed between the union and the government in 2012, FG decided to extend the gesture to include both federal and state universities. After the 2012 review, it was agreed that instead of N1.5 trillion, FG would infuse a total of N1.3 trillion into the universities over four years. Almost four years down the line, FG has refused to fulfill its end of the bargain. Rather than respond to the issues raised by the union that would ensure quick resolution to the imbroglio, government boycotted ASUU to summon a meeting with Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of universities, offering them N130billion with a matching order to lecturers to resume work immediately. But the union is insisting that by throwing money at universities in that manner, government has repudiated the 2009 agreement it entered freely with the union and the 2012 MoU. ASUU is not making any fresh demand but has maintained that the 2009 agreement must be honoured.
It is ridiculous that government officials were quoted as saying ASUU's N1.3 trillion demand is capable of shutting down the country. No. Their insatiable and rapacious greed will. The private jets in the presidential fleet can fly, centenary celebrations is a priority to government, there's enough money to pay humongous salaries and allowances to federal legislators and other political office holders, enough to forfeit to oil subsidy thieves, enough to pay militants bogus amnesty cheques and phantom contracts while they continue to bunker our crude oil like never before, there's enough money to beg Boko Haram to accept amnesty but there is no money for law abiding Nigerian students who want to eke out a living using university education as a stepping stone. It is this kind of attitude from the government that provokes the use of brute force by some regional groups to attract government's attention to their problems.
Government cannot claim it has no money to fulfill this agreement. A country with 109 senators earning about N19.6 billion a year, while N51.8 billion is spent on members of House of Representatives for the same period, totaling N71.4 billion. This sum, N71.4 billion, represents 17.8 per cent of the N400bn yearly intervention fund recommended by the Committee on Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities. Surely, our lecturers and universities where they were trained deserve more.
When we talk of heath care, government official and the ruling elite go abroad for medical attention; we talk bad roads, they fly private jets; we talk power, they run their homes on 24-7 alternative electricity source; now we're talking Education, their wards are in some of the best universities abroad. There is no way the myriad of problems bedeviling the country can be tackled if the political elite don't feel the pangs.
That Mr President has taken out time from his 'busy' schedule to constantly parley with the warring factions of his party, PDP, but has never sat down with ASUU members to chart a course for Nigeria's leaders of tomorrow clearly shows his priorities. Party affairs and chasing perceived enemies of his 2015 ambition around with apparatus of state are far more important things than bending over backwards to pander to the demands of the striking lecturers.
But then, government must take into cognisance the fact that, the longer the students remain at home, chances are that they will be lured into social vices. The aftermath can be disastrous for the state.
There are misplaced calls in the some quarters for ASUU to be 'reasonable', accept FG's offer and return to classrooms. Others lambast them for being self-centered and unpatriotic. It is unfortunate that Nigerians are always looking for quick fix solutions to monumental problems. Less endowed countries like Ghana, Botswana and Angola are making giant strides on all fronts because the citizenry have at one point or the other insisted that the needful be done. Here, anything thrown at us is accepted with glee.
We must get our priorities right as a country. Government must curb its own excesses. Education must be given the attention it deserves. Education of the citizenry should not be subjected to any form of Negotiation. Negotiating the education of our leaders of tomorrow is more or less negotiating the future of the country.
Government deliberately wants the strike to linger, first, to blackmail the opposition. There have been several unsavoury comments from the government's divide of the negotiation table that ASUU has been infiltrated by moles from the opposition, alleging that the strike has lingered to gain political capital. That is how low this government can stoop. We have seen it before. It is an irresponsible and shameless government, one that lacks integrity and honesty that will blame the opposition for all its woes. It is unbecoming for the government of the day to continue to heap its failure on the doorstep of the opposition and ASUU strike is just another avenue to paint the opposition black before the public.
Second, is to send a strong signal to other unions who might be contemplating similar action to have a rethink. Perhaps, government thinks by acceding to ASUU's demands, other Labour unions might toe the same path at the slightest excuse.
Third, the ultimate aim of government is to paint a bad image of the association to Nigerians, at least, for as long as the strike persists. The Governor Suswan-led NEEDS Report Implementation Committee mediating on behalf of the government has unfortunately taken a position that is false, dishonest, and calculated to misinform the public and cause disaffection towards the union. Rather than seek cheap popularity, Governor Suswan and the rest of the FG team should tow the part of honour by asking President Goodluck Jonathan to honour the 2009 agreement. There's no basis for turning the heat on ASUU and the campaign of calumny.
It calls for worry, that same government that has always maintained that 'our graduates are unemployable' and our universities churn out 'half-baked graduates' find it difficult to commit the much needed funds to revamp the universities.

SHOCKER!! Tenant sets landlord, landlady, house ablaze!!

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 05:47 AM PDT

A tenant in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, allegedly set his residence ablaze on Monday, killing his landlord and landlady.
The house is located at Asuquo Eyo Street in Ifa Ikot Okpon in the Uyo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, in his mid 40s, identified simply as Ime and popularly known as Shawa, was said to have threatened to burn down the house and kill his landlord and wife if they ejected him.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that Ime, allegedly kept his threat by stabbing his landlord, Edem Akpan, and the landlady, Affiong Udo, to death, before setting the house ablaze.
Emem Akpan, the deceased's daughter, narrated the incident to saying that trouble started when her father asked Ime to quit his house.
Ms. Akpan said that the suspect refused to park out and threatened that if her father insisted on ejecting him, he would kill them and burn down the house.
"We thought what he said was just a mere threat. None of us could believe that Ime was capable of doing what he said.
"Two days ago, we saw him bringing worn-out tyres into the compound. We didn't know he had a plan.
"Yesterday, before we left for church in the evening, he brought 20 litres of fuel, more than what his generator could contain.
"I remember a neighbour asking him what he was going to do with such amount of fuel, but he told him that he was going to run the generator overnight.
"This is what we saw this morning as we returned from church, that the fuel and worn-out tyres were weapons used by the assailant to kill my parents," she said.
Ruth Jeremiah, another daughter of the deceased and ex-girlfriend of the suspect, said she parted ways with Ime over a year ago.
She said it was Ime's crafty attitude of not letting her know his parents, his actual Local Government in Annang and even his surname that made her to terminate the relationship.
Ms. Jeremiah said that for the period she was with Ime, she did not know anything about his other names, except Ime' or `Shawa'.
She said that the suspect had removed all his property in the house on Sunday night before killing her parents and setting the house ablaze.
Ms. Jeremiah said that there was no tenancy agreement between her father and the suspect as the house was rented out, based on gentleman's agreement.
The Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Etim Dickson, confirmed the incident, saying that the command was aware that an elderly man and the wife had been burnt to death.
Mr. Dickson said that investigation was going on to unravel the mystery surrounding the killing of the man and wife and the burning of their house.
"We are aware that a husband and wife have been set ablaze. We do not know the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"We are still investigating the incident. No arrest has been made yet," he said.

SAD NEWS!! SHOCKER!! BRT Bus(LAG BUS) crushes soldier to death. (Graphic photo)

Posted: 24 Sep 2013 05:03 AM PDT

This accident happened yesterday Monday Sept. 23rd along the Alaka/Costain crossover bridge in Surulere. The driver of one of the buses in the state mass transit scheme lost control of his bus and crashed into a soldier riding a motorcycle on the express. The yet-to-be identified soldier was cut almost into two by the bus.

According to a source who witnessed the accident, the driver was on top speed when he lost control of the vehicle as he approached a bad spot on the dilapidated bridge. The driver, while trying to avoid the bad spot, swerved to the left pinning the soldier on the railing of the bridge. The bus dragged the soldier for a bit and cut through his bowel.

Eyewitnesses said the soldier, who died on the spot, was carrying a woman on the back seat of the motorcycle, and was flung away from the impact of the collision. She survived the crash but is in a critical condition in the hospital. The driver of the bus fled the scene after seeing the extent of the damage and so did the passengers of the bus a few minutes later, fearing attack from soldiers.

Except that Timba, weighing in at a whopping 120kg, is not  your average tabby.
Now a year and six months old, the white lion was adopted by owner Annel Snyman when he was just a tiny cub.

Close bond: Timba, who is a year and six months old, can often be found playing with Annel Snyman in the garden and helping himself to food in her kitchen

The 31-year-old, from the Waterberg region of South Africa, welcomed him into her home last year in the spring, and now shares nearly everything with her unconventional pet.
Annel, who also runs a guest house, has hand reared dozens of animals including six several kittens, a cheetah cub, five lions, a white lion and a leopard in her spare time.
The animal-lover admitted some people struggled to adjust to her startling choice of pet.
'The neighbours are amazed by him and I often see them driving past and slowing down to catch a glimpse,' she said.
Best fiends: As these remarkable pictures show, Annel has now formed an incredible bond with the 120kg lion, after adopting him as a cub in March last year

'And relationships used to be a challenge as there was often some jealousy issues about who was going to snuggle up with who on the couch.'
She added: 'There are times when it is difficult to do day-to-day things but I do manage to live a normal life – well normal for me anyway.'
'They've also gotten used to having him investigating their coffee or any other sweet items they happen to have.
'He has a fantastic appetite and eats lots of meat - around 4kg every day.'
As a cub Timba could often be found snoozing in Annel's bed but having outgrown the bedroom the friendly feline still trys to cuddle up with Annel on the sofa.
Couldn't let go: After hand rearing six Servals and a Cheetah cub, Annel decided that she could no longer raise the cats, form a bond with them and then let them go and thus decided to apply to start keeping predators on a permanent basis
Couldn't let go: Big softie Timba (pictured here as a cub) also enjoys going for walks with Annel's six-year-old dog, Diesel and 'helping out' with everyday chores around the house

Playful: Timba has grown from a cub (left) to a huge lion (right), but he's still as playful as ever

'It normally ended up with me on one couch with Timba snuggled up on my lap and the other person on the other couch or outside looking rather concerned.
'This was something that Timba had mastered perfectly. He used to be fantastic at subtly shifting his way onto the couch between myself and whoever was sitting next to me.
'If only every father could have a lion to keep the boys away from their daughters.
'I'm in a relationship now though and thankfully Timba has totally accepted my partner as one of the family.

Annel's love for animals started six years ago when, with help from her mother and father, she opened a guest house - called Loebies Guestfarm - on the land where she lives.
In a bid to make the resort more appealing she decided to adopt various farm animals and this eventually turned into hand-rearing African cats and other wild animals after being approached by someone in the game industry in 2009.
Since then Annel has hand-reared dozens of animals including six Serval kittens, a cheetah cub, five lions, a white lion and a leopard.
Annel admits she spoilt the first lions she cared for even more than Timba and would regularly go swimming with them.
She said: 'Being the first lions reared on the farm, they ruled the house, the bed and the couches and would regularly join me for swims in the farm dam up until they were rather large.

'For me, working with these animals was therapy and unbeknown to me at the time, the start of a whole new passion and path that my life was soon to take.
'After all the necessary permit applications for the keeping and hand rearing of indigenous predators were approved by the Department of Nature Conservation, I got my first Serval kittens to raise.
'This was quite a challenge but the first wild animals I cared for were my children and my life.
'After hand rearing six Servals and a Cheetah cub, I decided that I could no longer raise the cats, form a bond with them and then let them go and thus decided to apply to start keeping predators on a permanent basis.
'That was the spark that ignited my passion and directed me towards the unimaginable path and life experiences that I have on a daily basis.
'While most people are amazed, this has become my life and part of who I am.
'There are times when it is difficult to do day-to-day things but I do manage to live a normal life - well normal for me anyway.'
