| SHOCKER!!!! Dead man wakes up!!! after three days in a Morgue!!.(Photo) Posted: 20 Sep 2013 09:30 AM PDT Retired soldier, Kayode Sotunde, 49, had plans for better living when he undertook a journey from Gboko to Kano on April 11, this year, but he did not make it to Kano alive. The commercial bus conveying the ex-soldier crashed on the way, claiming him and 17 others. But the saying, 'old soldier never dies' appears to have played out with Sotunde as he woke up three days after in the mortuary, where his body and others were deposited for their families to claim for burial. According to Sotunde, his corpse was taken out of the mortuary and was being prepared for burial when he suddenly woke up. Sotunde narrated his experience to Sunday Sun in Abeokuta, Ogun State: ''I am a living witness to the fact that God exists. You may not believe me, just like I may not have believed it if it did not happen to me. I died in an accident along with 17 others, but resurrected three days after in the mortuary." Excerpts of the interview: Journey from Gboko to mortuaryOn that fateful day, that was April 11, 2013, I was travelling from Gboko to Kano to see my younger brother, Jide Sotunde, a soldier serving in Kano. We had agreed on the journey which we had thought would afford us to discuss important issues, including the possibilities of getting another job that would not be too far from where I had my wife.I retired from the Nigerian Army, (Supply and Transport), Apapa Lagos where I served for 30 years, during which I also participated in many peace keeping force assignments outside Nigeria. After retirement, I got a job as a security guard at the Dangote Cement, Gboko, Benue State from where I also resigned because of the distance of my workplace and where my family was based in Osogbo. The ill-fated vehicle was an 18-seater passenger bus, which I boarded in Gboko en-route Kano. We were barely two hours into the journey when a passenger asked us to pray. Since it was a normal thing for a passenger to offer to pray on such a long journey, I did not heed his call. I was just playing with my mobile phone set. Aside from that, I didn't believe in the prayer since I didn't know anything about Jesus Christ. I was a freethinker who neither went to church nor worshipped any idol. We were making progress on the journey when suddenly there was a bang. That was all I could recollect about the journey until I woke up three days after in the mortuary of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kano where I was told that I died in an accident and my corpse along with other 17 passengers were deposited there. Even though the hospital authorities told me that I was in their morgue for three days as a dead man, I actually spent more days there before I could regain my senses. I was to be buried in KanoI was told that before I returned from the land of the dead, my family had instructed my younger brother who I was visiting in Kano before the accident to bury me in Kano since they could not afford the N150,000, which was said to have been requested by transporters to take my corpse from Kano to Abeokuta. My elder sister, Moradeke Sotunde played a prominent role in this regard.I was also told that it was at the point that my corpse was being prepared for interment that suddenly I returned to the land of the living after my corpse was taken out of the mortuary for prayers by Islamic clerics who were said to have sprinkled water on my corpse preparatory to my burial. I was also told that my hair was also shaved as demanded by the clerics. I was told that my corpse was taken out of the mortuary after they had dug my grave and organised some clerics to offer the funeral prayers. They wanted to bury me in Kano because my family members couldn't afford N150,000 demanded for carrying my corpse to Abeokuta for burial. The initial plan was to move my corpse back home to Abeokuta, where a grave had been dug but for the transportation cost. Life in the land of the deadMy brother, truly, there is life after death. I can also tell you that there is a living God. You may not believe me, but I am a living witness to this. I may not be able to describe Heaven or Hell, but there is another life after this one that we are living. This place I am talking about is full of snow. I may not have been to America, but I have heard about snow. Where we were was full of snow, with plenty of something that I can describe as alum stones; whitish in colour with something I can describe as granite in this physical world. In spite of the terrible cold, there was no day that we felt cold and it was never harmful to us. All of us were there without knowing whether we are male or female. We couldn't see our eyes, mouth and nose. We had no leg; we had no arm, but we floated in the air without our bodies touching the ground. We were flying around what I will describe as another planet. On the third day of my arrival on the strange planet, they gave me a message that we were expecting one big prophet. After the message was delivered, they nominated ushers among us to welcome the prophet. And seconds later, people started trooping in, jubilating as if a goal was just scored in a football match. On that planet, there were many stars which were not stable in one place, like we have in the sky in this world. I noticed that on a daily basis, people kept on increasing, even though we don't know from where they came. I was in this mood until they (I don't know them) told me that I should go back home to work for the Lord. According to them, there were many people in the world who are not only in bondage, but are also afflicted with human pains. They also instructed that I should work for the Lord and heel people. I was even arguing, putting up some resistance that I could not do it. This was the condition I found myself until I opened my eyes and saw Jide, my younger brother in this part of the world again. In God's vineyardSince the Lord has directed me to work for Him, I will surely do so because 'to be forewarned, is to be forearmed.' It was because of this that I went to do my thanksgiving service at the Mountain of Fire and Miracle, in Lagos with the General Overseer, Pastor Olukoya. The Lord has started performing miracles in other people's lives through me. I don't want to sound boastful, but God has started using me. I do pray for people now and they usually return to tell me that their problems have been solved. It is the Lord's doing. I have already prayed for a woman who has married been for 14 years without a child that God will give her the fruit of the womb. The person who lives in Ikorodu spoke to me through the telephone and I believe Lord will answer her prayers and request. I have accepted to work in God's vineyard till I return to Him. Day I returned to AbeokutaI caused a stir in this area when I returned alive to Abeokuta because people including my family members, except my brother who was with me when I rose from the dead, did not know I had risen from the dead.On arrival in Abeokuta, we played pranks on my people as they did not know that I was returning to home alive that day. When we got nearer home, the person that accompanied me decided to call Kemi, my mother's last born that we were already in Abeokuta. When my sister saw me, she fainted and was later revived. She was shivering when she woke up. We later told her to return home to tell others that I had risen from the dead. On my way, I saw people mourning me, wearing black attire. I trekked a distance of about 800 metres to my father's house. There, a grave had also been dug beside my late father's before the family decided to bury my corpse in Kano. I waved as people were expressing shock and disbelief at seeing me alive. When I attempted to move closer to a woman in her shop, she ran away, thinking I was a ghost and pleading that she had no hands in my death. My sister, Moradeke who lives in Lagos was also wearing a black attire, mourning along with others until I returned home. I returned to Abeokuta on the very day I was to be buried. I even met many of the mourners, wearing black (including my sisters) who had gathered in my father's house here, (Sabo Abeokuta). There was also a particular woman who threw away the beans meal she was eating and ran away from her shop when she sighted me. I kept on saying that I was not dead, but she found it difficult to believe me. Health challengesAlthough I have returned from the land of the dead, I have not fully regained my health as I am talking to you. I have both chest and body pains. In fact, medically speaking, I am not alright. I usually run strange temperature. That was why I visited the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba for medical treatment. I vomit blood each time I cough. I can't engage in any hard labour.Besides, a lot of strange things have started happening to me. Sometimes, I feel as if I am still in the mortuary. I will be seeing a lot of heads. My sight is not normal, it sometimes fails me. I have also started giving messages to people about things that they don't know about their family. I started revealing to them what had happened in the past to their astonishment. This has made many people to run away from me with some describing me as a demon. To be sure that I am not a ghost, I tried to relate with my friends as well as eat with them. Despite this a few of my friends still avoid to shake hands with me, thinking that I am a ghost. I am homelessYou ask where I live? To answer straight, I am homeless, because I am currently squatting with my younger sister, causing her and her family inconveniences. Even though she is not complaining, I know that I am inconveniencing her.I have been given quit notice in Osogbo after my landlord heard of the incident. According to him, he could not live with Akudaaya (ghost). I stayed at No 1, Rasco Hall, Oke Fia, Osun State, Osogbo, It was the ejection that informed my living with my sister here (Abeokuta). I need serious financial assistance from well-meaning Nigerians to take care of my health and sustenance. Survival is difficult for me. That is why I appeal to Nigerians to come to my aid. I want to stop being a burden to my sister and her nuclear family. I want individuals as well as corporate bodies and churches to help me financially. God will surely replenish their purses in abundance in Jesus name. I had a broken home some years back and I remarried two years ago, but when the incident happened, the woman abandoned me and ran away from Osogbo. I want to appeal to Nigerians and other people that there is God. I want them to believe that there is life after death; so we should do good to our fellow beings. Heaven and Hell are real. Where we want to go is an option for us to decide. I want people to know that it is just a matter of seconds between life and death. Source Sunnewsoline | ||||||||
| Man forced to demolish his £200,000 home after TRIPLING its size... WITHOUT planning permission!!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:58 AM PDT ![]() A man's home is his castle – especially when he's spent £100,000 lovingly transforming it from a 1960s bungalow. Businessman Syed Raza Shah spent most of his life savings adding two extra storeys to the flat-roofed property, not to mention a turret and sweeping balconies. The result is a seven-bedroom home for him, his wife Farah and their four teenage children, worth £2million. A man could be forced to tear down £2 million dream seven bedroom home after he built an 'inappropriate' extension Trouble is, the council says that wasn't quite what Mr Shah had permission to do – so it has served him with an enforcement order to demolish the house. Mr Shah was granted planning permission to increase the floor space of the old house by around 45 per cent, and to build a new roof, but the council says he has far exceeded that, effectively making it a 'new build'. He applied for retrospective planning permission for what he calls the 'minor adjustments' to the bungalow, but it was refused because the house is in the green belt and an area of outstanding natural beauty. ![]() Syed Raza Shah was given permission to increase the floor space of a five-bedroom bungalow (pictured) in Barton-Le-Clay in Bedfordshire by 45 per cent ![]() Mr Shah bought the 1960's bungalow for £750,000 in 2008 and soon started work on an extension, which he said was agreed by local planners Yesterday Mr Shah, 45, a director of a beauty salon, who is appealing against the decision, admitted he 'bent the rules slightly'. But he disputes the council's claim that he has increased the floor space by 200 per cent and questions why it waited until the end of the 18-month construction before ordering his new home to be razed to the ground. He said: 'The council haven't done their homework properly before issuing an enforcement notice. 'Their 200 per cent figure is ridiculous. They have lost the plot. I have measured it myself and I've increased it by 12 to 15 per cent. Yes, I have bent the rules slightly. But I only did it to make it aesthetically more pleasing. The old building was dilapidated; it was just awful. It was ugly and people have said it looked like a caravan site. ![]() But officers at Central Bedfordshire Council say the resulting three-storey building, complete with a turret and long balcony, amounts to a 200 per cent increase and they have refused retrospective planning permission ![]() The council has said the amount of alterations mean the house is now a totally new building and has served Mr Shah with an enforcement order to demolish the home 'Yes, we have made some minor adjustments, but I don't see the decision that has been made justifies demolishing the house. 'I apologise for bending the rules, but the building has been going on for months.' He bought the five-bedroom bungalow in the village of Barton-Le-Clay in Bedfordshire for £750,000 in 2008, and started work on extending it. Called The White House, it is set back 200ft from the road and approached by a winding driveway, with the nearest neighbours 20 yards away on either side. There have been 11 formal complaints from neighbours, who say the property 'clashes with other houses on the road' and it 'sticks out like a sore thumb'. The parish council also says it is 'out of character' and 'disproportionate'. But Mr Shah countered: 'It doesn't overlook anyone, and you've always been able to see it from the road.' Councillor Nigel Young said: 'Councils must follow planning law and planning regulation and this is well outside planning regulation, so we are obliged, as we are with all cases of unlawful development, to act on behalf of all our residents and issue enforcement notices.' | "Obasanjo’s ‘insult’ made me a superstar" –Eedris Abdulkareem Reveals Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:47 AM PDT ![]() Controversies and scandals aside, Afro Hip Hop artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem, is happy that he chose the path of music Anytime his name is mentioned in a gathering, many incidents readily come to mind. For some people it is his scuffle with American rapper, 50 Cents, during his visit to Nigeria, in 2004. Others may choose to remember his numerous swipes at colleagues in his songs. However, beyond the many controversies that have dogged his career over the years, Eedris Abdulkareem, was once a professional table tennis player and journalist. At age 15, I represented Kano State as a table tennis player. I was also part of the Nigerian Table Tennis contingent to the All Africa Games in 1985, which took place in Kenya, with the likes of Funke Oshinaike, Atunda Musa and the late Yomi Bankole." The Bayero University, Mass Communication graduate says, "God told me emphatically that my calling was music because he wants me to use it to speak for the voiceless. He said, 'Eedris, leave Kano, you are going to go to Lagos to do music, you would go through a lot but you will make it nonetheless. As soon as you have the opportunity to speak on the microphone, use it to talk about the ills in the society like sexual harassment, politics, embezzlement and illiteracy. Also, I was interested in music because my mother raised 10 children and lost seven of them. It made me a very conscious boy at a tender age because of that." "I would have made more money from music if I sing praises. But if you are a public officer who is accountable, I will definitely praise you. With music, I have met all my needs and gained international recognition. I have the authority to walk up to any governor's door and get instant recognition. They will say, "Ah, Eedris Abdulkareem, Obasanjo's friend, Jaga jaga". It has opened many doors for me and I don't have to sell my soul to the devil or become a member of illuminati to be successful," he says amid laughter. When asked to comment on the high point of his career, his face lights up in a smile "The best to ever happen to me was former President Olusegun Obasanjo talking back at me, calling me a mere street boy whose father is not known. The president took me to the next level, I became a super star, and now people know me, because Obasanjo put me in his level." As if these achievements are not enough, the rapper, who has been running an independent label, La Kreem Records, since 2004, is happy because he has succeeded in keeping the home front intact in spite of controversies. "I love my family and wife so much that I don't joke with them. I have been married for 13 years, though they thought it would last three months. I proved to them that it is possible to be a family man and artiste at the same time. I am an inspiration to other married celebrities," he boasts. Things can only get better, as far as Eedris is concerned. With a sixth album due in November, the Osun State native, who says he has a few friends in the industry, tries to clear a few issues off his chest. "I don't need endorsements, but I am cool with the shows that Mike Adenuga has been giving me. Shows are enough for me. I will endorse my own product which I am putting together. I need more shows because they pay my bills. If I tell you I want endorsements you may think that most of the things I sing about are for endorsement. I don't want it, but I do it for other Nigerian artistes so they can live big. But if you must endorse, choose people that will add value to your life. Endorsement is the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria. My only grouse is that abroad, endorsed artistes add value to other people's lives. Here in Nigeria, it is the opposite," he says. | ||||||||
| (MUST READ) SEE how Africans are making it BIG in China!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:27 AM PDT ![]() Ali DialloThe 39-year-old from Guinea is part of a growing number of African entrepreneurs thriving in southern China, as trade between the world's second-largest economy and fastest-growing continent soars. Sitting in a small room cluttered with cardboard boxes destined for Nigeria, Diallo welcomes the latest delivery of Chinese-made mobile phones to his office in Chungking Mansions — a bustling labyrinth better known for budget hotels and no-frills restaurants. The building is also the go-to place in Hong Kong for African buyers in search of cheap electronics, with phones selling from around $8 each. "In China there are opportunities for people who can start from scratch and build up their own business. Obviously not in one day but through hard work and networking you can do it," says the trader, whose company sees an annual turnover of $11 million a year through the sale of phones and tablets alone. Trade between China and Africa hit new highs of nearly $200 billion last year, according to official Chinese data, driven by Chinese industry's appetite for African raw materials. The African traders in southern China are the flipside of this deepening relationship. Entrepreneurs like Diallo have made Chungking Mansions one of the most important passageways for Chinese gadgets air-freighted to Africa. According to Gordon Mathews, professor of anthropology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, up to a fifth of all mobiles in Africa have passed through the building's corridors in recent years. But while this 17-storey hive is the storefront, the engines behind this trade lie in the industrial heartland of neighbouring Guangdong province in southern China. This mecca for low-cost manufacturing has drawn entrepreneurs from across Africa, creating one of the largest black communities in Asia. A pivotal role In the provincial capital Guangzhou, at least 20,000 Africans live in the city, research from local Sun Yat-sen University shows. Though their number is a fraction of the million Chinese now living in Africa, these migrants are playing a pivotal role in their new home. "Traders bring with them vast skills and capital, supporting large amounts of Chinese manufacturers… If all the African traders were to vanish it would have an enormous effect on the south China economy and business people realise this rather strongly," says Mathews. Many traders work in and around a downtown neighbourhood dubbed "Little Africa", or more insensitively "Chocolate City" by the local media. Along its winding central alley, a restaurant serves Tilapia with fufu — a staple Congolese meal of fried fish and cassava — as well as traditional Chinese fried rice and steamed fish. A few kilometres away at Canaan Export Clothes Trading Centre, a vast complex where Igbo is spoken as often as the local Cantonese language, Lamine Ibrahim loads thousands of jeans into bags destined for Africa. He is one of several hundred Africans who has forged a deeper connection to the city by marrying a local Chinese woman — a relationship founded on love but also economic prudence. "For (communication) with the Chinese people… she can do. I buy my car, she is there, I open my own factory, she is there. So if I have no wife it's not easy," says the Muslim trader from Guinea in broken English. Five months ago Ibrahim and his wife Choi Zoung-mai — renamed Maryam Barry after converting to Islam — opened their first factory hiring 43 Chinese workers. With this latest investment they hope to secure a bright future for their four-year-old son who speaks fluent Mandarin as well as French, English and Fula. Prejudices can run high While there are several success stories, not all African entrepreneurs make it in China — for some rising costs and intense competition make it difficult to stay afloat. But this migrant community, which began forming in Guangzhou in the 1990s, has built a network of groups to support each other's ambitions. This is vividly apparent in the handful of African Pentecostal churches that have sprung up across the city. Tucked away on the ninth floor of a building behind Guangzhou railway station, 150 worshippers crowd into Royal Victory Church. "Our prayer is that you will prosper," the pastor preaches to cries of agreement from a mostly male congregation drawn from Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana. The African entrepreneurs who are flourishing in Guangzhou are succeeding where many foreigners fail. Not only are they navigating the notorious Chinese bureaucracy but at times overt racism in a country where prejudices can run high. This can range from mild snubs from taxi drivers who refuse to pick up black customers to more serious accusations of traders being unfairly targeted by police when they conduct raids for illegal immigrants. Even so others report good relations with the Chinese. "Many traders feel much more comfortable working in China than they do in Europe," says Roberto Castillo, a Lingnan University researcher in Guangzhou. Ojukwu Emma, president of the local Nigerian community, says the main problem for Africans trading in China are the increasing clampdowns on visas. He says it is getting harder for African residents in the city to renew visas, or for those travelling back and forth to gain re-entry. "You cannot allow foreigners to come in and not give the foreigner confidence to stay. Once you are out to the world, you must be open," says the businessman who has lived in the city for 16 years. But for now booming Sino-African trade continues to draw new waves of African entrepreneurs, drawn to the shores of Guangzhou in search of Chinese dream. Source Vanguard | ||||||||
| Why Nigeria was banned from the 2015 DV lottery - Mr. Jeffery Hawkins reveals!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:15 AM PDT ![]() "As at today, Nigerians have graduated from being under-represented to being a fully well represented group in the U.S and so there is therefore no longer any need to encourage Nigerians to apply to travel to the U.S. through the Diversity-Visa-Programme". "Already there are too many Nigerians in the U.S. that have benefited from thisThe envoy explained that the diversity visa was created to promote countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. Hawkins said that Nigeria and other affected countries had already exceeded their quota in the last five years but stressed that the U.S. authorities would continue to give preference to Nigerians travelling to U.S for visits, business transactions, studies and professional engagements. "All other types of immigration from Nigeria to the U.S, apart from the diversity visa, would continue unabated. He also dismissed insinuations making the rounds that the move was to reduce the number of Nigerians travelling to the U.S. The U.S official also said that the development had "nothing to do with insecurity, activities of Boko Haram and other forms of upheaval in Nigeria." It would be recalled that the U.S. Department of State, banned Nigeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador and Haiti: India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam. | ||||||||
| Members of the Nigerian house of Reps to Receive $25,000 Each To Stop Baraje!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 08:01 AM PDT ![]() LEADERSHIP gathered last night that, since Tuesday, some of the alleged PDP members have been going to a hotel situated around the Central Business District to collect their own share of the largesse. The deal, which a dependable source who spoke with LEADERSHIP said is bankrolled by the presidency, however extends to any other lawmaker who does not belong to the Baraje faction of PDP. The source, who is also a member of the House but sought anonymity, said: "The plan is aimed at swelling their ranks. Since Tuesday, they have been going to that hotel to collect $25,000 each. When they collect, they sign an understanding which states that they will be loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan, Bamanga Tukur and Speaker Tambuwal. But they know the part of speaker was just added to make them feel more comfortable and look like they are not against him." Going further, he explained that what transpired when Baraje led the National Working Committee and G-7 governors was to "show that they can deliver". The points-man for the assignment, he disclosed, is a ranking lawmaker from Imo State who heads an international parliamentary body. Others included in the deal other than loyalists of the Tukur faction are five members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), seven members of the Labour Party, and four members of the Accord Party (AP). Expressing disappointment that the lawmaker would allow himself to be used to cause division in the House, the source added: "This is somebody we all supported to be appointed as speaker of that prestigious international parliament. Since Monday, they have been going there to collect the money and, till today, those who haven't gotten are still going there. The deal is open to anyone who is interested, as long as you are not a member of the Baraje faction of PDP. They want to swell their ranks by getting more members to be on their side." The source also said that on Tuesday when that fight broke out between the two factions in the House, Tukur loyalists were in the midst of a meeting where they were discussing how to destabilise the House when they were called to come and disrupt the courtesy visit. Despite all these, LEADERSHIP gathered, during a closed-door session that held in the chambers on Wednesday, Speaker Tambuwal appealed for calm among his colleagues, advising them to put national interest ahead of partisan troubles. No plans to impeach Tambuwal - Reps The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, yesterday declared that members of the House had no plans to impeach the speaker of the House, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Zakari said this while briefing newsmen on Thursday at the National Assembly. Arguing that the power to remove or install any speaker lies on all the members of the House, not just few party members, he added that "Tambuwal is a speaker in whom we are all pleased". Responding to whether there was any truth in the allegations that money was distributed to lawmakers to impeach Tambuwal, Zakari said the leadership of the House was not involved in sharing any money, neither has any member of the leadership nor himself received any money. Meanwhile, the House yesterday adjourned plenary till Tuesday, October 3, for a one-week oversight on the implementation of the 2013 budget by ministries, department and agencies. The adjournment does not extend to committee sittings. Source Leadership | ||||||||

A woman who spent two years in a coma was bid a heartbreaking farewell by loved ones, who switched off her life-support machine just hours after she was married. He Jingjing and her fiance Lu Lai, of Guangdong in southeast China, had the world at their feet in 2011. Both had found top jobs in the local government at Guangzhou, they had recently bought a home and were planning to get married.
But their plans for a long and happy life together were cut tragically short when He Jingjing was taken ill one day at work. She slipped into a coma on the way to hospital and never woke up. Two years on, her family gathered by her bedside to celebrate her 28th birthday complete with a cake, and then took part in a wedding ceremony, finally fulfilling the couple's dream of marrying. Her organs will now be donated to help other people in need. Lu Lai said: 'I am happy she will have helped others to live but for me I don't think about her living on in others, for me she will live on in my heart forever. I will always miss her. 'No matter how, she will live in my heart forever.' Relieving the tragic events leading up to when his bride-to-be was taken ill, Lu Lai said: 'We wanted a special wedding, so we were doing overtime to make sure we saved up enough. 'She was ill but she did not want to stop work. Then one day I had a call to say she had collapsed at her computer and been taken to hospital.
'They said she had stopped breathing on the way, and had to be resuscitated. 'I was told at the hospital she was alive but later it became clear that she had been permanently brain damaged. There was nothing we could do for her.' Her father Fang Lu said: 'She was such a wonderful, vibrant young woman. I can't believe she is gone, but she did always say she was prepared to be an organ donor and this way part of her will live on and help others to life. 'She was our only child, we wanted to have one last special thing together.'

| SHOCKER!!! Man Kills his 3 months old baby for Money Ritual in Jos!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 07:28 AM PDT ![]() Polycarp Tajan from Maikatako Village in Bokkos, confessed in an interview with newsmen in Jos, Nigeria the state capital, that he suffocated his three-month-old baby boy (names withheld) to enable him cut off his tongue for money-making ritual. Tajan said his quest for money took him to a native doctor, who asked him to bring the tongue of his first-born child for the ritual. He equally blamed his action on the devil, influence of alcohol and greed. He said: "I was really in need of money and someone told me about money ritual. I went to meet a native doctor, who demanded the tongue of my first-born child. "When I came home that day, the baby was on the bed and my wife was cooking in the kitchen. I used the pillow to suffocate the baby."Police sources said Tajan's wife raised the alarm that led to the suspect's arrest. The native doctor was still at large. | ||||||||

Nidhi Barak, 20, a fine arts student, and Dharmender Barak, 23, who was studying at technical college, were killed last night as locals in Gharnavati village in the Indian state of Haryana watched on. The pair had eloped to nearby Delhi on Tuesday because their families did not approve of their relationship. But they had been lured back with promises that they would not be harmed and would finally be allowed to marry. Miss Barak's parents and uncle have been arrested and police are now trying to trace her brother and other family members who disappeared missing since the crime. According to police the couple were tortured for several hours at Miss Barak's home before she was beaten to death in full public view. Dharmender Barak was beaten and his arms and legs broken, before he was beheaded. His body was allegedly dumped near his family's home at a public square in the village. Police, who had been alerted by a villager, reportedly caught Miss Barak's family cremating her body on a pyre. Her half-burnt body and that of Dharmender Barak have been sent for a post-mortem. Local police chief Anil Kumar said: 'While murdering the boy they also beheaded him. 'We have arrested her father, mother and uncle and we are looking for her brother, a friend and driver of the car in which the couple were brought back to her home in Gharnavati village. 'Both belonged to the same village and the same caste. It is an honour killing but the murder was not approved by society.'
India has for centuries seen killings that often target young couples who have relationships of which their families, clans or communities, particularly in traditional rural areas, disapprove. Reasons for disapproval are numerous, but they sometimes include having relationships outside of their caste or religion. The killings are carried out by relatives to protect the family's reputation and pride. Police in Haryana have been conducting a campaign against honour killings in the state, where the sex-gender ratio is skewed in favour of men because of an outlawed but still existing tradition of female infanticide. 'We hold seminars and our women officers visit villages but the ultimate weapon against the scourge of honour killings is (more) education,' Kumar said. India's Supreme Court said in 2010 that the death penalty should be given to those found guilty of honour killings, calling the crime a barbaric 'slur' on the nation. There are no official figures on honour killings in India, but the All India Democratic Women's Association says its research shows about 1,000 such cases nationwide a year. | "Why I am not in support of the Goodluck Jonathan Administration" - Gov Rotimi Amaechi Reveals! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 05:34 AM PDT ![]() Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, has said he is opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan because the South-south region where the president comes from has not benefitted from his administration. He also listed the parlous state of the economy, the poverty rate and the poor infrastructure, especially the East-West Road, as some of the reasons he is opposed to Jonathan's presidency. Amaechi was reacting to comments by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, on the nation's economy and the South-south's support for Jonathan respectively. Amaechi stated that the Nigerian economy is struggling to survive, contrary to the rosy picture painted by the finance minister. According to him, the federal government was yet to fully pay the Rivers State allocation for July. Amaechi spoke at a programme organised by the Rotary International, District 9140 for young future leaders at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Thursday, during which he engaged the audience in an interactive session and drew responses from participants. On Uduaghan's remarks that opposition to Jonathan should not come from the president's South-south region, Amaechi stated that he considered Nigeria's national interest far and above any other interest. He bemoaned the fact that those fighting a just cause were being maligned on the altar of public criticism, pointing out that Nigerians usually suffered for not asking the relevant questions. He said: "When you are principled in Nigeria and you stand on your principles, what do they call you?" "Stubborn," the audience chorused. "They expect you to compromise at a point but when you refuse to compromise, you are a very stubborn man. "We (NGF) asked the Minister of Finance to resign if she is not able to manage the economy and she replied, 'I dey kampe'. As at now, we are yet to receive the complete federation allocation for July. "How strong is an economy that cannot fund its statutory state government federal allocation? Our entitlement as Rivers State Government in July was N19 billion, they have paid us only N14 billion, you get the point? "Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) published (revenue) receipts of N1.05 trillion in July, so why do they say that there is no money? If we receive N1.05 trillion by July, why are they saying there is no money?" he queried. He said he was opening up to the youths, because as potential leaders they should learn how to ask their leaders questions. He added: "Now, why am I saying this to you? I am saying it because as potential leaders, you must learn to ask questions. If you think that the youths spur me, you don't, you don't inspire me. Why don't you inspire me? Because you are learning to be like us. Let me paint the image of us – corrupt, poor leadership, that's what you are copying. "We produce oil and we are one of the poorest nations in the world, are we not? Which nation would allow a Commissioner of Police like (Joseph) Mbu to continue as commissioner other than in Nigeria?" "Iraq, Syria," the crowd replied. Responding, he said: "Maybe Syria. So you see our peers – Syria, Iraq, Pakistan. I am sharing experiences with you before I talk about the issue of leadership. "Now, I read today's paper and my friend (Emmanuel) Uduaghan says anybody who is from South-south should not oppose our president, should not have a different view from our president. Did you read it? "I will reply him but let me start replying him from here. First, I am a Nigerian. The reason why you have the South-south, South-west, South-east, south this, North-west, north that, is because in Nigeria what you have in leadership is a wrecked culture. "I would have brought you a book titled 'It's Our Turn to Eat' on Kenya. In Nigeria, it should be what, 'It's Our Turn to Chop'. "The reason you have this South-west, South-east, North-west, north this, north that and all that is because you have a wrecked culture, where all we care about is how to share the till. "So the South-south has shared for four years, how many of you have benefitted from the sharing for four years, raise your hands; how many of you?" "None," the crowd again responded. "So none. How many of you passed through the East-West Road, how was the road?" "Bad," the audience said. "And our president is from the South-south, so you see; should I support the president?" he asked. "Nooooo," the crowd drawled in unison. "So the basic rule is that none of us should oppose our president if you are from South-south, that is what the man (Uduaghan) tells us," he said. He urged the youths to arm themselves with education to revive Nigeria which is comatose, expressing sadness that the country's poverty rate had risen to unbearable levels where many Nigerians hardly get enough to eat. "Now for you as young men and women, we present you a nation that is yearning for repair. For me, the nation does not only need repair, it requires change. "In 1970, the poverty rate in Nigeria was 30 per cent. How many of you know the poverty rate now? I was in a meeting where I said it was 70 per cent but the Minister of Finance said it was 68 per cent. What's the difference between 68 and 70? So we are giving you a nation that is in a comatose state, that's what we are handing over to you. ![]() "If it is a nation that is progressing, from 30 per cent in 1970, we should be talking of about 15 per cent now. So you have work to do and the first step to that work is get an education," Amaechi said. He explained that his administration introduced free education in the state to provide everyone, particularly poor parents, the opportunity to send their children to school, lamenting that the cost of education in the country had denied education to most Nigerians. Amaechi also used the occasion to commend Rotary International for complementing the state governors in the fight against polio. Earlier, the District Governor of Rotary International District 9140, Dr. Charles Oniawan, said Rotary unites people from all nationalities and backgrounds, adding that the programme was designed to give youths leadership skills to serve the people and humanity. However, Amaechi's position on the finance minister was faulted yesterday by the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, who said the call for her resingation was improper given the efforts of the minister in the revitalisation of the economy. Jibrin argued that Amaechi and his faction of the NGF missed the point and did not put all the issues in the proper perspective. He said rather than harassing Okonjo-Iweala, the group should have focused their energy on the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who controls the sector that yields the revenue. "The NGF should take a second look at this matter, articulate their position and present to the Minister of Petroleum Resources. If anybody should be asked to resign, it should not be the Minister of Finance but Diezani Alison-Madueke, the Minister of Petroleum Resources. "The whole issue has to do with government projected funds and since our economy is oil and gas-based, it is hasty to call for the resignation of the minister of finance without looking at the background of the issues involved. "To me and our committee, where we should put our searchlight and lay more emphasis is the petroleum resources sector – the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). "The Minister of Petroleum Resources should be called to answer questions and give account of what is happening; it is not the Minister of Finance. "Substantially, the money we are talking about comes from the oil sector, from crude sales. Till today, we have been asking how much crude are we even producing per day? "Nobody knows the quantum of crude we produce per day in this country, the minister is not giving out any information on it and nobody is asking her. "Transparency and accountability in NNPC is abysmally low, the system is still shrouded in absolute secrecy. Nobody understands how they operate," he said. Jibrin advised the NGF to seek explanations from Alison-Madueke on the rising incidence of crude oil theft and alleged corruption in the oil and gas sector. On the management of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), Jibrin faulted the federal government on the move to hand over the fund to foreign banks. The SWF, he said, was not federal government property, but the heritage of the federation comprising the three tiers of government. Jibrin said the relationship between the officials of the foreign firms managing the SWF and officials of the Nigerian government was questionable and amounted to a conflict of interest. In the meantime, an Abuja High Court yesterday struck out a suit that sought to determine the authentic winner of the May 25 contentious NGF election. The order of the court striking out the suit, followed an earlier application for discontinuance brought by the plaintiff and Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). Prior to the application to discontinue the suit, Fashola had through his counsel, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo (SAN), asked the court via a writ of summons, for an order of court restraining the Plateau State Governor and claimant to the chairmanship of the forum, Mr. Jonah Jang, from parading himself as such. His contention was that Amaechi had won the May 25 poll, having scored 19 votes, to beat Jang, who scored 16 votes. However, before the court could resolve the dispute which arose among counsel over who was briefed to represent the feuding parties, Osibanjo brought an application for discontinuance/withdrawal of the suit. The application was fiercely opposed by the counsel to Jang, Chief Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and Mr. Paul Erokoro (SAN) as well as counsel to Osaro Onaiwu, the third defendant. Their respective opposition was initially upheld by the trial judge, Justice Peter Affen, on the grounds that a leave of court was not sought and obtained first, before the application for withdrawal was moved. Consequent upon a proper application for discontinuance filed on July 16, Osibanjo prayed the court to strike out the suit, submitting that it was the right of the plaintiff to decide at any stage to discontinue his case. He further submitted that it was not the business of counsel to the defendants to preempt the plaintiff's next step, more so that the matter was still at its preliminary stage. In his ruling yesterday, Justice Affen agreed with Fashola's postion that the suit be struck out, rather than an outright dismissal. Affen held that "the law is trite that a plaintiff can discontinue or withdraw his claim against the defendants" whenever he deems appropriate. Source Thisday | ||||||||
| (MUST READ)Why ASSU Strke might end Next week!! Posted: 20 Sep 2013 05:15 AM PDT ![]() Hope of an early resolution of the strike embarked on by the public universities' lecturers rises as the Vice-President Namadi Sambo met with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting held behind closed doors had in attendance the supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike and the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie. The union was led by its National President, Dr. Nasir Faggae, and two former Presidents of ASUU; Dr. Dipo Fasina and Dr. Abdullahi Sule-Kano. Others at the meeting were the Vice-Chancellors of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Abdulrasheed Abubakar; Prof. Isaac Adewole of the University of Ibadan; and Prof. Muhammed Hamisu of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. It was however uncertain if yesterday's discussion was fruitful as the two parties did not disclose the outcome of the meeting which lasted for two hours to journalists. Fagge, however, told State House Correspondents that the union would make its position known after the National Executive Council meeting. Wike assured Nigerians that students would soon return to school as government was ready to make sure all the contending issues were resolved as soon as possible. But a source at the meeting, who pleaded anonymity, however, told one of our correspondents that going by the new offers made by the Federal Government, the strike might be called off within the next two weeks. This, the source said, was because the Federal Government had agreed to inject fund to revitalize the university system. "The meeting went well, the vice-president made some new offers that were different from what was on ground before. For instance, the Federal Government had agreed to start the injection of revitalisation fund into the university system starting with N100bn this year and N150bn in 2014 and this will continue until the university system is solid enough to stand. The source, however, said that the ASUU team promised the vice-president that the union would make it decision on the strike known after its NEC meeting unconfirmed source said had been scheduled for Saturday.
