George Zimmerman Detained by Police After He Pulls a Gun on His Estranged Wife and her Father Posted: 09 Sep 2013 09:09 PM PDT George Zimmerman was acquitted of murdering unarmed teen Trayvon Martin last month, but his woes seem to be just starting. In a movie I watched recently, a character says, "When you do something wrong, even though you may get away from the law, you keep paying". That seems to be the case with Zimmerman. Just four days ago, his wife, Shellie Zimmerman, had filed for divorce after almost 7 years of marriage. In an interview with ABC News shown Friday, Shellie Zimmerman called her husband of six years "selfish" and said he believes he's "invincible" after being found not guilty in the racially charged Trayvon Martin case. 'I think I'm realizing that I have been married to a person for almost seven years, and I don't think that I ever really knew him at all.' To compound his issues, George Zimmerman then went into a rage yesterday at his former father-in-law's house, punching him in the face and pulling a gun on his estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman, as well as a knife. She called 911 screaming, "I'm really, really scared, I don't know what he's capable of." According to NY Daily News, Shellie Zimmerman, 26, told a police dispatcher that her husband flew into a rage just after 2 p.m. and punched her father, Colin Morgan, in the nose. She said that after smashing her iPad, he began waving a gun, threatening, "one step closer and he'd shoot us."
Atala and I Featured on MSN Living - Real Husbands: What I Love About My Wife Posted: 09 Sep 2013 07:02 PM PDT Some of you may remember this post, 15 Things I Love About My Nigerian Wife, it is still one of the most appreciated posts on RML. I was contacted by an MSN writer who saw and loved the post and she wanted to connect to Atala and feature him, [and us] on a slideshow she was preparing to acknowledge husbands who appreciate their wives. I tabled it to Atala and he said Yes! LOL... Check out the slideshow and us at #3 at MSN Living. Atala - or as he wants to be known, Tola - says what he appreciates most about me is my smarts and sense of adventure :) "I like how smart Myne is; I always feel I can count on her great suggestions when I'm thinking through a difficult issue. I love that because she's more adventurous than I am, I get to see and do things that I otherwise would not have done." I'm so loving him and appreciating his PDA, and I want to pay this forward. I want to give other husbands and wives the opportunity to show and feel their appreciation. Wife Appreciation Day is on Sept. 22, and I'd love to receive stories from real husbands who want to share with RML what they love most about their wives. It can be one sentence, a paragrah, or an essay. Photos are not compulsory but will be real awesome. My married and coupled up male readers, I see you guys, and for the wives who know their husbands read this blog, it's time to table it before them. I look forward to reading your mails. Thanks
Tamar Braxton in Ebony Magazine, Talks About her Infertility, Abusive Relationships and Self Esteem Posted: 09 Sep 2013 07:01 PM PDT Tamar Braxton and her new baby, Logan, are on the cover of the latest issue of Ebony Magazine where she talks about her painful struggle with infertility before getting pregnant and how she got her post-pregnancy body right. She also discusses past abusive relationships and how they have affected her self esteem, as well as having vitiligo. Here are some excerpts from the cover story. On how she dealt with pregnancy cravings and got her pre-pregnancy body back "He's like, 'Nope. Don't do it. You're gonna be mad." Vince chimes in, "Even before the pregnancy, she was very conscious about her weight, so I'm just helping her to be a better person." On surviving two past abusive relationships-including one where she was yanked out of her apartment by her hair. I almost had to tell my story to each individual and then I decided that's not what I'm going to do. I can't make anybody believe, I can't change anybody's mind about anything. (The abuse,) it happened. I'm not all the way comfortable with sharing a lot of what happened to me (yet), but what I said was true. When I'm ready to talk about my abusive past I will, I'm sorry that I'm not. But if it wasn't for (God), I wouldn't be here." On how her abusive relationships affected her self esteem "I haven't always been vocal about my feelings, especially in a relationship. Now, I make sure that I'm very vocal about my feelings, everybody knows how I feel. Sometimes it's over the top and most of the time it's 'Team Too-Much,'" she laughs, "But I have to do a lot. (I was) a shy person who had self-esteem issues trying to figure it out — now, I've gotten over my hangovers. You say, I'm comfortable and confident, it took a long time to get there. Maybe like a year or so before Braxton Family Values, I wasn't that person. I was faking it til I make it, pretty much… "I didn't feel like I was beautiful. I didn't feel like I deserved things. I didn't feel like I could stand in a room and speak or even sing and have people who wanted to listen." On having the skin disease Vitiligo, and rumors of her bleaching Anybody with skin issues knows that that's a very sensitive subject. And that's why I've never shared that I have Vitiligo, because I do. I've always had it, since I was a young girl. It's not as bad as others because everybody has it differently, but I've certainly had mine diagnosed. That's why I tan. People say, "You bleach your skin!" But I tan just so I can have a better tone on my skin, boo! It's gotten worse since I've gotten pregnant. If you shake my hand now, to me it's more noticeable. But when you get diagnosed with a skin disorder, it's hard. It does weigh on your self-esteem. It really does. But I'm done defending that. I'm not bleaching my skin and if I was bleaching my skin and I felt like saying so, I would, but for the record, I am not. On rumors that she's had plastic surgery "I don't have plastic surgery. I never had plastic surgery. I had a nose procedure done because I had to. I had no cartilage in my nose, I have a piece of cartilage from my ear put into my nose. I had a medical procedure done. I have no plastic in my nose. And when I shared that with the world, now I have Botox, and different kind of fillers. Now I touch my face, which I never touch my face…Everything is real on me." On why she fell in love with her husband, Vince "The thing that I love the most about (Vincent) is that he's helped me with accepting what happened to me and helped me realize that that's not my make-up, (being abused) is not who I am, it hasn't hindered who I am, it hasn't stopped my integrity. I really appreciate him more and more everyday."
The Meeting - Behind the Scenes and Interview With Midred Okwo, Rita Dominic and other Actors Posted: 09 Sep 2013 02:04 PM PDT Rita Dominic's The Meeting remains one of the best Nollywood movies I've seen and a great romantic comedy for any audience. The producers are preparing to release the DVD version of the movie in the coming months and this promo of behind the scene snippets and interviews with some of the people involved in making the movie is a must watch. And if you haven't seen it, watch The Meeting below. You can read my full review here.
Viola Davis on Essence Magazine - Talks About Natural Hair and Her Identity as a Black Actress Posted: 09 Sep 2013 02:14 PM PDT Viola Davis is beautiful inside and out on the cover of the October edition of Essence Magazine. She debuted her teenie tiny afro on the 2012 Oscar's red carpet [here] and in this cover, she shows how it has grown and inside the magazine, she talks about accepting her natural beauty as it affected her work as a black actress in Hollywood. Excerpts; I had to defend myself as an artist, but I found myself defending myself as a dark-skinned Black woman in front of people who did not know my life. I took my wig off because I no longer wanted to apologize for who I am. My image of myself [as a youth] was in the mouths of young White kids calling me ugly and then going home to a mother who did not fully embrace her own beauty… There's not one woman in America who does not care about her hair. But we give it way too much value. We deprive ourselves of things, we use it to destroy each other, we'll look at a child and judge a mother and her sense of motherhood by the way the child's hair looks. Via Essence.com

A Cry For Help? Miley Cyrus Cries as she Goes Nude in 'Wrecking Ball' Music Video Posted: 09 Sep 2013 10:27 AM PDT After her hard girl act at the VMAs, see here, Miley Cyrus is going for the soft inside in new video for her single, Wrecking Ball. Shedding tears at the beginning of the video, she sings of being wrecked after charging into a relationship like the tough one. I like the song, and the lyrics, some say the video is more of her provocative, girl-gone-wild side, I think it's quite mature. Or could it be a cry for help?
How To Be The Wife That Your Man Wants by Gerald Rogers Posted: 09 Sep 2013 09:17 AM PDT Remember his message to Men, here, on how to be an epic husband? Read and share these tips for women who want to enjoy a great marriage… Last Sunday, just after my marriage of 16 years ended in divorce, I was up at 1:00am capturing advice I would have given myself if I could go back in time… things I wish I would have known as a husband earlier. I shared my thoughts with my friends on Facebook hoping that maybe out there somewhere, there was one person like me that could benefit from my hard earned lessons and recommit to being the man their wife deserves, before it was too late...
Kendra Spears becomes Princess Salwa - Changing Your Religion and Your Name After Marriage Posted: 09 Sep 2013 09:19 AM PDT If you watched the Disney princesses as a young girl, or ever crushed on British prince William or Harry, you may have dreamed of one day becoming a princess. And for Kendra Spears, an American from Seattle, she did get her prince. Kendra married Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the eldest son of the Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims, at a traditional Muslim wedding in Switzerland. Before the wedding, the bride converted to Islam and changed her name, she is now to be known as Princess Salwa Aga Khan. So, in exchange of being a princess - hopefully this also means being with the man she loves - she is changing everything about her including all her names and also her religion. The question is, will you change your name [first name, not surname] AND convert to another religion for love and marriage? I know some people were against this when I blogged about Sound Sultan and his wife Farida, who was Chichi before the marriage, see here. Vote blow and let's discuss in the comments section.

Monday Man Candy - Dr Sid in a Scottish Kilt For a Friend's Wedding Posted: 08 Sep 2013 11:25 PM PDT If this were the cover art of a movie, Dr Sid himself titled it best when he captioned this picture he shared on Instagram, "A Scottish Wedding, a Naija Grooms Man and a Kilt". Dr Sid was among the groomsmen at his friends wedding and along with the Scottish groom, they all wore the kilt with their suits. Now, scores of romance novels set in the Scottish Highlands, and my years in Edinburgh have certainly left me with an admiration of men in Kilts. The question remains, are they wearing anything underneath? If you ask me, na who I go ask? Ask Dr. Sid :)
