How Family Of Four, Neighbour Were Burnt In Early Morning Fire In Lagos

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 07:28 AM PDT

A woman, her three children and a neighbor were at the early hours of Wednesday, burnt to death at Shagari Estate, Musan, in Musan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, LCDA, of Lagos State.

The fire, as gathered, started at about 1.15 am in a three-bedroom flat located on 9, CH street.

Eye witnesses said one of the victims identified simply as Aunty Philo, alerted
neighbours with the shout of fire.

But before sympathizers could rush to the flat, the fire had reportedly spread to the entire building, in the process of which the roof fell on Philo, burning her beyond recognition.

Efforts by youths in the area to safe the situation failed.

An eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard: "We saw Aunty Philo trying to force the burglary proof open but she could not. At that time, we tried to break the wall  to rescue her when all of a sudden the roof fell on her.

"When we eventually succeeded in pulling down the burglary proof, we saw roasted members of the family  on the floor. We could not do anything again but had to leave because of thick smoke."

Identities of the victims were given as Mrs Anwuzia, said to be in her fifties, Ekene (16), Emeka (7) and  Nwike (30). The mother of three whose husband was said to be away, reportedly returned from a church programme in Ghana the previous day.

Her husband, a Pastor, was said to have travelled to Aba, Abia State for an undisclosed assignment.

Fire service men were said to have arrived the scene later and succeeded in putting out the fire, but the harm had been done.

Contacted, Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed the death of five  persons, saying that news of the incident was received at about 1.39 am

He said: "We had to mobilise a truck of 10,000 water capacity  from Ikotun to the scene. On reaching there the fire was still on. Because of the magnitude, we had to mobilise another truck from Agege with another 10,000 litres  to compliment the first one, before the fire was contained. [Vanguard]

Why I Married A White Lady - Actor, Yomi Fabiyi Opens Up

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 07:07 AM PDT

He got married some months ago, and people have said he married the white lady for a reason but Yomi his saying something different in this new interview below;

JOISAYSBLOG: You have been married for eight months now and you are yet to go and meet your wife in the UK, one would expect that after your project you would have gone to join your wife as against you moving from one location to the other in Nigeria.
YOMI: How did you know if I have not travelled in between or if she had pop in to see me. My wife is aware of my work and she supports my commitment.

JOISAYSBLOG: Really, but the popular belief is that your getting married to a white woman is for you to relocate permanently to the UK.

YOMI: Popular belief? That is the effect of poverty mentality, must it always be that way? I'm in the marriage for happiness and not for passport or money, and there was no agreement for me to relocate to the UK, if that had been one of the conditions my wife gave, I wouldn't have gotten married to her.

JOISAYSBLOG: Happiness, can you please shed light on that?

YOMI: At the time I met my wife, I was alone and at my lowest ebb emotionally, there was no serious relationship and I needed to love and be loved. It's one thing for a woman to say she loves you and it's another thing for you to believe her. I had experienced a bad side of love and it had affected me and my reactions towards women and love. I wanted to move on and my wife was able to convince me.

JOISAYSBLOG: How did she convince you? She asked you out?

YOMI: I didn't say that, and even if she did, it's no big deal to them. So it hurts me deeply when some people misconstrue my intentions in this marriage. Let me tell you one thing, since I've been going to the UK, I have never stayed that long or had it that close to a white woman before and when we moved from the stage of friendship to dating I got really carried away. Her dedication and openness were just unbelievable and I fell in love real hard, though I didn't envisage marriage.

JOISAYSBLOG: So you decided to quickly get married. Why Nigeria, why not the UK since the whole wedding was just at the registry? How did you convince your wife?

YOMI: She had a pre-planned trip to Ivory Coast but she later suggested coming to Nigeria, I agreed to that as I prefer my country than travelling to meet her in Ivory Coast.

Some people attempted to abort my pregnancy for me -Bisi Ibidapo-Obe

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 07:01 AM PDT

Bisi Ibidapo –Obe is a Yoruba actress who has come a long way in the movie industry.
She became a household name when she featured in a movie entitled: "Bisi Omologba Logba" from where she derived her nickname. She opened up on some personal issue in this interview.
Excerpts:
You are now a mother. How do you feel?
In fact, this is the greatest thing to have happened to me. I am exceedingly happy to be a mother.  I am so grateful to God that He has counted me among mothers. This is what I have wished for all my life. Motherhood is sweet.
You will agree with me that the  beginning of your pregnancy was full of scandals as the man you said was the father of your child refused to accept it. Tell us without mincing words how you feel.
It was shocking and I felt bad, but during that period, I didn't allow it to worry me too much. My primary aim then was to have a safe delivery and to God's glory, I was able to have that. The scandal was too much then, but I didn't allow it to affect me.
When the supposed father rejected the pregnancy, did you feel like aborting it?

Never! I rebuke that in Jesus' name. This was what I had craved for.  This is what many rich men and women cannot afford to buy and I got it on a platter of gold. I didn't think about that. I know it is a gift from God. Why should I remove it? You needed to see me then. I flaunted it anywhere and everywhere. Although, attempt was made by some people to get it terminated but the God that I worship did not allow this to happen.

Who are those people?

I wouldn't want to talk about it. I was attacked physically and spiritually, but thank God, He proved Himself to them.

Right now the baby is here. What is the relationship between you and Melaye?

Relationship? Seriously, I wouldn't want to talk about it. What is more important is that the baby is alive and I pray to God to give me long life to take good care of her. As I said earlier, she is a gift from God.

Okay, we understand you don't want to talk about her father.  Right now, you are the mother and the same time the father. What is your plan for her?
Every mother has very good plan for her child but I don't think you expect me to start revealing that on the pages of newspaper.  I have a good plan for her but this is between my God and myself, God has never disappointed me and I am sure He will not do that now; He has proved to me how mighty and wonderful He is.

What has the pregnancy issue taught you about life?

It has taught me that not everybody that calls you friend is really your friend. It has taught me to be wary of people. It has taught me that human beings could be so deceptive. I can go on and on.

Woman (Zahra) Pregnant For 46 Years Gives Birth To Unusual Baby (photo)

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 06:47 AM PDT

In 1955 in a small village just outside Casablanca, 26 year old Zahra Aboutalib is pregnant with her first child. She was looking forward to giving birth, but after 48 hours of painful labour, she was rushed to the local hospital.

Doctors informed her that she would need a caesarean section. On the ward Zahra saw a woman in terrible pain die in child-birth. She fled the hospital
fearing she would meet the same fate if she remained.
In the days that followed, Zahra continued to suffer excruciating labour pains but the baby remained resolutely in her womb. After a few more days the pains ceased and the baby stopped moving.
Zahra Aboutalib
In Moroccan culture, it is believed that a baby can sleep inside the mother to protect her honour. Zahra believed this myth and put the pregnancy out of her mind. She adopted three children and in due course they made her a grandmother. Zahra Aboutalib, Many years later when Zahra was 75 years old, the pains suddenly returned.

Her son being concerned for his mother's well-being wanted her to see a specialist. For this they had to travel to Rabat where they saw Professor Taibi Ouazzani. He suspected the protruding belly was being caused by an ovarian tumour and arranged for her to have an ultra-sound scan. This revealed a large mass that he could not identify.

He referred Zahra to a specialist radiographer for a second opinion. He could see it was a calcified structure of some sort, but it took a detailed MRI scan to reveal that it was the baby Zahra had conceived 46 years earlier.

Check out The Ugliest Town In The UK

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 06:33 AM PDT

It has a dry ski slope, a Norman church and its cinema was opened by Lauren Bacall.
But none of these could influence a controversial new poll in which Hemel Hempstead has been named the ugliest town in the UK.
The survey, run by the website Crap Towns Returns, received more than 3,000 votes when they asked for the country's "crappiest towns".
The results will be cut down to 50 for the book Crap Town Returns, due to be released in October.
One of the authors behind the survey, Sam Jordison, said: "I know exactly why Hemel did so well in the poll. I've been there once. And once was more than enough."
Hemel Hempstead came top of the poll with 785 votes, despite registering zero votes in the first few hours of the survey opening.
Its near neighbour Luton could only muster 592 votes.
Jordison added that he was surprised that Coventry didn't do better after a number of people wrote in to say it looked better just after it was bombed than it does now."
The first edition of Crap Towns, published in 2003, sold more than 100,000 copies and provoked outrage across the country.
Kingston-upon-Hull took the first unwanted crown, followed by Cumbernauld and Mroecambe
The successor Crap Towns Returns is "back by unpopular demand", joke the authors.
 Ugliest towns: the final scores
Hemel Hempstead – 785
Luton – 592
Slough – 352
Bracknell – 338
Birmingham -312
Camberley – 311
Coventry – 295
Cumbernauld – 100
Hatfield – 51
Gateshead – 48

Femi-Fani-Kayode apologizes for mentioning Igbo ladies he's had relationships with (Read !!!)

Posted: 15 Aug 2013 06:21 AM PDT

After the controversy which emanated from Chief Femi Fani-Kayode's latest article on the deportation of 19 Igbo destitutes by the Lagos State government, the former minister went ahead to list Bianca Ojukwu, Chioma Anasoh and Adaobi Uchegbu as three Igbo women he has had relationships with .
He has however apologized for that,..
Read Statement below
Chief Femi Fani-Kayode hereby expresses his deepest regrets for mentioning the names of three distinguished Nigerian ladies that he was once associated with in his last article titled "A Word For Those Who Say I am A Tribalist".

He meant no harm by doing so and neither did he at any point make references to having had any sexual relations with any of these ladies when they were associated with him as is being suggested by some members of the public. He was simply trying to emphasise the fact that he has nothing against the Igbo people and that his friendship with these three ladies in particular over the years provided some evidence of that.

For the record he has not seen Madame Chioma Anasoh, Chief Adaobi Kate Uchegbu and Ambassador Bianca Onoh in many years and he admits that it was inappropiate for him to have mentioned their names in the essay, to use them as a point of reference in a public discussion or to make any references whatsoever to the nature of their past association. All references to them have been erased from the updated version of the essay.

Chief Fani-Kayode has reached two of the ladies concerned and he has personally conveyed his unreserved apology to them both and to their families for his indiscretion. He shall endeavour to reach the third lady to do the same in the next few days.

Chief Fani-Kayode has nothing more to say on this matter and would prefer to remain focused on issues of national importance and not of a personal nature

- Mr. Bisi Lawal, Press Secretary to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode
