| Eniola Badmus Drops The Bombshell! I Can't Lose Weight For Any Man Posted: 16 Jul 2013 10:59 AM PDT Wow, here is what the actress said when she was asked in an interview if she could lose weight for a man. No I can't lose weight for any man. Any man who doesn't like me the way I am can as well keep a distance. Why must I even lose weight for a man? What if I lose weight and I find someone else and he says I want you to add weight for me then I will add weight again for the person. It doesn't make any sense. Everybody can't like you so if you don't like me just stay away. | ||||

| Lover Set Pregnant Girlfriend On Fire Over False Accusation (See Photo) Posted: 16 Jul 2013 10:48 AM PDT Until June 23, not many could have suspected that all was not well between Emeka Agu, 28, and his pregnant girlfriend, Miss Bidemi Akinsolufe. That night, disaster struck in their home in Ayobo area of Lagos, as Emeka allegedly set his lover ablaze. The reason? To prevent the lady from charming other men with her beauty. Nearly a month after, Bidemi still writhes in pain at the Gbagada General Hospital, even as Emeka awaits his date with the law. The reporter met the badly burnt lady on her hospital bed and she narrated what led to the sad incident. "I started dating him last year but my boyfriend is very jealous. Even whenever my sister called me, he would want to call back to be sure it wasn't a man that called me. "He was working before and had his own place but he later lost his job and had no place to stay. I secured a mini-flat in Ayetoro and asked him to join me there. We had been living together since then. "Recently, when I took in, he asked me to stop working and I did. But he drinks a lot. He spends his money on alcohol and I always told him that I was worried that his liver might be destroyed. He doesn't trust me; he thinks I date other men. "He used to work in the night as a bouncer in a hotel. The day before he set me on fire, his former boss had summoned him and I thought maybe the man wanted to offer him a job. So, on the morning of that day, Sunday, June 23, I called him to know if he had gone to the man's place. As we were speaking on the phone, he told me he was already high. And I asked him why he should spend his money on alcohol when I was hungry at home. "I was angry, so I went to report him to his friend. His friend then called him and talked some sense into him. But when he knew that I was with his friend, he became angry and accused his friend of sleeping with me. He said he would suck my blood for sleeping with his friend. I was even explaining to him that I couldn't be sleeping around with my pregnancy but he wasn't convinced. He began to call me names, that I was a useless woman. He later said it was all right, that he wasn't angry again. So, I went back home. "When I got back home, one of my friends told me that Emeka had reported me to her, saying I locked him outside in the rain. So, when I got to our apartment, I begged him and my friend also begged him. He said he was no longer angry but I didn't know he still had plans to deal with me. "After a while, he pretended as if he wanted to go to the toilet and while walking past me, he suddenly gave me a terrible slap. Then he began to beat me. In fact, I had never been so thoroughly beaten since I was born. He had only slapped me on two earlier occasions. That night, I was yelling for help but I guessed people weren't hearing me outside. I was crying and threatening to pack out of the apartment. "Then he said he would destroy my beauty. But I didn't believe he would do anything so devilish. Then he went to the kitchen, brought out the stove and poured the kerosene on me. He lit a match and threw it at me and I was burning. I rushed to the kitchen to get water but he was pushing the buckets of water away. I was yelling and crying. Then after some time, he began to say to me: 'My babe, your face is burnt, I'm sorry.' "I didn't even know that my face was badly burnt. I initially thought my hands were the only parts affected until much later when I saw my face in the mirror. "When he realised the damage he had done, he began to beg me, saying he would marry me. He said I should stay inside, that he would go and get raw pap to apply on the burnt parts of my body. But as he wanted to go out of the apartment, I followed him. He said he wasn't running away, that he just wanted to get the pap and get back. And I said okay, but I was following him. He kept pushing me back but I insisted on following him out. Later, one of our neighbours, a man, knocked on our door and asked what was wrong with me. He replied that there was no problem but I shouted that the man should come in to save my life. I told the man that the door wasn't locked, that he should push it. Eventually other neighbours came and pushed the door open and I immediately ran outside so that everyone could see me. I think that was when I passed out." After she lost consciousness, some of her neighbours quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital from where she was transferred to the Gbagada General Hospital. Meanwhile, the neighbours also alerted the police in Ayobo, who came to arrest Emeka. Bidemi also told the reporter: "He told me it was the devil's handiwork but I know God would repay him. I leave everything to God. I have been hospitalised here now since then, and my people have been spending money on me." "Initially, I thought no man would want me any longer since he had destroyed my face. But my people said no, that they wouldn't allow me near him again. They said he should write an undertaking that he wouldn't come after me but I've been told that, even with an undertaking, he might still try to harm me. I will have the baby but he must never ask for my child. I want him to face the music. I want justice to be done." Bidemi's mother, Mrs. Nike Adeyemi, also spoke with the reporter. Said she: "Some good neighbours took my daughter to a nearby hospital and asked her boyfriend to stay with her there. They then secretly invited policemen to arrest him. We are already in court." "I have spent all I have to treat my daughter. None of Emeka's people has paid a dime out of the heavy hospital bills. We have spent over N200, 000 now and we are still spending. The doctor said we would need, at least, N500, 000 for comprehensive treatment for my daughter because her face and hands have been badly burnt. You can see the wounds are still looking fresh even after over three weeks. I don't even have any money for her treatment any more. I'm so fed up. One of Emeka's sisters came to me with policemen from Ikoyi. She offered to pay me N40, 000 so that the boy would be released. I refused to collect the money because I said it was even an insult for her to offer that little amount when we were being asked to bring N500, 000. "I don't even know where to turn to for help. Please, help me beg compassionate Nigerians to come to our aid. I don't want my daughter to die. I think we will also have to do something about her pregnancy because I don't ever want her to have anything to do with that boy any longer." The reporter spoke with Emeka's sister, who allegedly offered N40, 000 to Bidemi's family. Her words: "I don't know what to do again. I didn't know when Emeka and Bidemi started their friendship. I didn't send him to set the girl ablaze. I'm even tired of everything. I am a widow myself and I don't have money. I have even used the N40, 000 that I offered her to take care of some other issues. I'm tired of the whole issue and I don't know what to do." | ||||
| "Never, I Can't Date A Man That Doesn't Have Money, I Can't Feed A Man.” – Singer Chindima - Posted: 16 Jul 2013 10:45 AM PDT
Back in the days, the role of women in the family was limited to the kitchen and the farms, where they helped their husbands. But things have changed now as some women have assumed the role of men in the family and mostly give support to men in terms of providing for the upkeep of the family. For female celebrities in Nigeria, one challenge they face is getting young men that would marry them as wives, which has made some of them end up marrying men that are married with kids. Most young men tend to stay away from them because they feel female celebs, apart from their reported wayward lives, feel they (female celebs) are richer than them. And because of this, most young chaps stay away from them. Speaking on the type of man she would love to marry, Chidinma Ekile, Nigeria's female singer and a former winner of MTN Project Fame said she would want a man that could take care of her needs and not the one she would feed. According to her, "never, I can't date a man that doesn't have money, I can't feed a man." The singer also disclosed that she is not in a hurry to get married but that she is not in a relationship at the moment.
| (MUST READ) HIV Infection Is A Blessing To Me- Gloria Asuquo Posted: 16 Jul 2013 10:44 AM PDT ![]() In an encounter with Sola Ogundipe in Abuja, the energetic 24-year-old recounted the frustrations of living as a pauper in addition to the ignominy of HIV stigma and discrimination. Today, Gloria who once contemplated death until sheer luck and doggedness turned her fortunes around and brought unhindered access to the elusive, life-saving treatment has undergone a transformation. The same HIV infection that took her to the brink of total despair is today a source of her blessing. How did it happen? She tells it all in this encounter. Excerpts: Living with HIV stigma I'm a young person diagnosed HIV positive at 12. I was in Primary six going to JSS1. I got infected through blood transfusion. The stigma was so much I couldn't bear it. There were drugs at that time, but they were too expensive for my parents to afford. Each time my father raised the money to pay for my drugs, my mother would challenge him. Why are you giving her the money? she would ask. We know that she would soon die. Why is she taking the drugs? Why are we wasting money? My mother went to the Church and told the Reverend who announced my status to the community. He advised I should be taken to one of the General Hospitals and abandoned there to die. But my father refused to heed such advice. Rather, he challenged the Reverend to take one of his four children to the hospital and abandon her there to die first, only then would he obey the instruction. The pressure became too much. My mother separated me from the rest of the family. She demarcated my own part of the house separate from the others. The stigma became too much. Escape from home One day I could not bear it again. The pressure was too much for me to bear. I had to break the window and jumped out to escape from home at the age of 12. I escaped to an unknown village called Oki. I went to Jabi Park in Abuja, I had only N800. I didn't know where to go, but just wanted to leave and even die. Death wish I wanted to die. I was in the bush; I had stopped using my drugs which at that time cost N15, 000 per month. Test for CD4 count was N6, 000, viral load N12, 000. Where was I going to get that kind of money? I wasn't working, I just told God to let me die. Before then, I went to NTA and shared my story. I told them I was HIV positive; I wanted to declare my status to the world. They said I should cover my face, but I said no. I wanted the world to know my story so that if I die, everyone would know what killed me. Breaking the stigma is an individual thing. If you want to come out to testify, nobody can take that away from you Saved Then I met Dr. Anthony Agu, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. When he asked about my parents, I burst into tears. He took me to the University and I told him my story. He took me to his house, gave me a room to stay. But he told me not to disclose my status to his family. He enabled me continue my education and in 1996, I finished my school. Back to treatment Dr. Agu then told me that he heard that the drugs were now free that I should go and try. So I went back to Gwagwalada General Hospital where I met Dr. Ajayi. When he asked if I had been taken my drugs, I said yes. I lied to him because I was afraid that if I told him I had not been on drugs, he would send me away. But he placed me on the drugs. That night I went back to Nsukka, but never went back home. Dr. Ajayi got all my details and related to Dr. Pat Matemilola and Professor Babatunde Oshotimehin who were all looking for me. Eventually, it was Godwin Odemije of Radio Nigeria that came to look for me, and brought me back home. In 2006, I developed typhoid and ovarian cyst. Doctors said I would be operated upon because I stopped using my drugs for a number of years. To the glory of God, I'm still on firstline drugs. HIV infection as blessing God first, but the treatment has kept me alive till today. If there were no free drugs, by now, I would have been a forgotten issue. People would have forgotten me, my name would not be written anywhere. HIV has become a blessing to me. I am sitting with important people. If not for HIV, I would not meet Ministers, and Ambassadors and so many important people. If not for HIV, I would not have ever fly in an aircraft. I'm proud to be HIV positive. Today, I'm a testimony in my family, there is no meeting at which they do not seek my opinion. I'm proud that I'm HIV positive. Make treatment available I'm still pleading to the Ambassadors and everyone in the country to make these drugs accessible especially the youths and women. We are the most vulnerable and do not have anywhere to go. We are tomorrow's leaders. We may be driven out when we are diagnosed with HIV because the general belief is that HIV is contracted through promiscuity. But HIV can be contracted through many ways. The three zeros If the drugs are made to be more available, only then can we truly have the three zeros, that is, zero related deaths, zero new infection and zero stigma. As a young person I cannot come out but keep quiet and spread it, but if we provide access to treatment, give free education, employment and there is no stigma, I bet you, these three zeros will be achieved. Ambition I'm dreaming to become a medical doctor. I want to achieve this. HIV has nothing to do with my future. I would match it and overcome it. I need you to help me achieve my dream and also to find a cure to HIV. I want my name to be great, so that it will be said that Gloria Asuquo found a cure to HIV. I want a scholarship so that I can achieve my goal. Vanguard | ||||

| Account For N2 Trillion, Tambuwal Tells EFCC, As Reps Ready To Declare Ribadu, Waziri Wanted Posted: 16 Jul 2013 04:59 AM PDT
Speaking at a three-day investigative public by the House Committee on Drugs, Narcotic and Financial Crimes, on all the seized items with the EFCC.
Also the National rug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said at the hearing that it recovered over N1.8 trillion in different currencies and 70 cases for the EFCC between 2006 and 2013. "I have learnt that between 2003 and now, the EFCC has confiscated over 200 mansions and large sums of money through 46 forfeiture court orders. These landed property, monies, and business concerns which were estimated to be worth in excess of two trillion naira, included bank accounts, shares in blue chip companies, exotic vehicles, fuel stations, holdings, warehouses and shopping malls among others. "However, there have been many reported cases of vandalism, improper storage, abandonment and waste. We have reports that some of these properties have fallen into disrepair and that some cannot even be accounted for. We cannot allow a situation whereby over 400 cars seized through the diligence of the EFCC for instance continue to rot away. We have a vicarious responsibility to ensure that assets seized through forfeiture court orders are prudently and carefully manage to avoid waste and to ensure they are maximally disposed of for the benefit of the public. It is not enough to just seize assets, we need to ensure that they are quickly utilized as part of the restitution for the original crime," said Tambuwal who was represented by the Deputy Leader of the House Honourable Leo Ogor. Chairman of committee Honourable Jagaba Adam Jagaba, said the hearing was sequel to the resolution of the House on 28th February, 2013 where the committee was mandated to carry out the investigation and report back to the House within four weeks. He however expressed annoyance with the refusal of two former chairmen of the EFCC Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Mrs Farida Waziri to appear before the committee to answer questions over the whereabouts of seized and recovered assets by EFCC from convicted individuals including monies under their headship. While Ribadu was pioneer Chairman of the Commission between 2003 to 2008, making 270 convictions, Waziri presided between 2008 and November, 2011 until she was replaced by Ibrahim Lamorde. "I am sounding this warning to those we have summoned and refused to come, according to section 89 (c) of the constitution, we have the legislative power, in fact we can declare you wanted including other agencies that are not here. You cannot treat the National Assembly the way you want. They all have up to Wednesday this week to appear by 10am," Jagaba said. NDLEA chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency between January 2006 and January 2013 has investigated and transferred 70 cases involving money laundering and narcotics to the EFCC apart from N1, 841, 225, 239 in different currencies. Giade gave the breakdown as N27, 822, 410, $2, 832, 878 (N441, 928, 968) and $7, 144, 166 fake dollars (N1, 114, 489, 896); £20, 300 (N4, 872, 000) and £938, 487 fake (N225, 236, 880); €11, 266 (N2, 309, 530) and €6, 400 fake (N1, 312, 000); CFA93, 750, 517 (N28, 125, 155) and five Ceddis (N400).
| 10 Things to never text your Ex Posted: 16 Jul 2013 04:54 AM PDT One-word texts. Don't just text "Hey" or "Yo." If you have something to say or ask, do so in your initial text. Get right to the point. Don't put your ex in an awkward spot of trying to interpret why you're contacting him/her. Terms of endearment or flirty emoticons. You're no longer a couple. Avoid using pet names or cute phrases that should be reserved for a relationship. You cannot keep the cute stuff post-breakup. Resentful rants. If you're upset, tell a friend. Do not text hurtful things just because you're tired/lonely/drunk and it's easy to do so. Take the high road into singleness. "Why didn't you text me back?" "Did you get my message?" Send one text. If he/she doesn't respond, accept that contact is likely not welcome yet. Relationship talk. Don't debrief or reminisce over text. Beyond an initial post-breakup debriefing, which should be done in person, all relationship lessons should be shared with friends and your journal, not the person who broke your heart. Booty-call requests. Never, ever a good idea. "Thinking of you." This isn't helpful. It's predictable that recent exes will still be thinking of each other. But once you're no longer in a relationship, your ex should no longer be privy to your thought life. Sexy pics. See: booty-call requests. Move on. Desperate apologies and pleading. Do not try to win back your ex by begging over text. A second text, and then a third. Once you've accomplished what you needed to do -- he agreed to give your cat back on Thursday, for example -- quit while you're ahead. Be okay with being the one to end the text conversation. When in doubt, don't text your ex. Ever. | ||||
| What Happens If This Man Who Was Hit With A Mace Dies? Posted: 16 Jul 2013 04:53 AM PDT ![]() He was reported to have slipped in and out of coma... Chinda, one of the lawmakers against Governor Chibuike Amaechi, was seen on TV being pummelled viciously with the mace of the House by a colleague, Chidi Lloyd, said to be loyal to the Amaechi camp. Wearing a white caftan and a red cap, Lloyd was seen repeatedly hitting him with a mace, while a man dressed in police uniform was seen lending him a hand. In another scene of that national embarrassment, Evans Bipi, purported to have been bizarrely "elected" as the new Speaker by five members in a House of 32 members, was seen outside the chamber felling a man with a punch. By the time the fracas was over, the legislative chamber was not just a shambles, the floor and walls were painted in blood. Legislators in most parts of the world are known for occasionally resorting to fights during heated debates. The reason is simple: Legislators are equals, elected by their respective constituencies to represent their interests, with the members electing one of their colleagues to preside over their deliberations as the Speaker or President, who is not their boss but just a first among equals. Therefore, at times of crisis, even though the legislature has a leader and other officers who maintain order, it is difficult to control members. The situation is worsened by the fact that police officers are not usually allowed to come into the House to maintain peace when there is a crisis. Legislators always believe that since they are an independent arm of government, they should be allowed to settle their issues their own way without any interference from the executive arm of government whom they are meant to make laws for and have oversight powers over. Therefore, even when they fight and injure one another or destroy things in the House, none of them is usually arrested. It is seen as their internal matter. If there is a need to penalise erring members, the House uses its internal mechanism to mete out such penalties without the interference of the police or law courts. However, will it still be regarded as an internal matter if a member of a House uses a weapon on another member that causes death? It is not likely that such will be treated as an internal legislative matter. The only time I can recall when a Nigerian legislator died during a fracas in the House was on October 17, 2007 during the crisis that led to the resignation of Mrs. Patricia Etteh as Speaker of the House of Representatives. But fortunately, the deceased, Dr Aminu Safana, did not die as a result of physical contact or injury: it was reported that his blood pressure shot up during the row and he was rushed to the hospital where he died. The Rivers State crisis has been allowed to fester like a bad sore for too long. Interestingly, both Amaechi and Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of State for Education, who is fingered to be fronting for President Goodluck Jonathan in the crisis, both claim to be the victim. The loser is governance which is either abandoned or neglected while the crisis goes on. But there is enough blame to go round all the actors in this crisis. Some point at the removal of the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area as the root of the crisis, while some point at the clash of political interest between Jonathan and Amaechi over the 2015 elections as the root of the crisis. Jonathan with his wife has repeatedly washed his hands off the crisis, but it will be very difficult to convince most Nigerians that he has no hand in it. He has a right to protect his interest and work against the interest of anyone who is plotting against his. But a line needs to be drawn between politics and intimidation. The more this crisis lingers, the more it hurts Jonathan's image. It is therefore in his interest that he gets it resolved fast. On his part, Amaechi has every right to seek to be President or Vice-President in 2015 against the ambition of the incumbent. Even if he has no political ambition of his own for 2015, he has a right not to support Jonathan's ambition. But he should not be applauded for working against the political interest of his party man. He still has two years to govern Rivers State, but he seems to be paying more attention to this crisis than the job for which he was elected. Secondly, one of the problems in Rivers State that has worsened this crisis is the removal of the Chairman of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Amaechi has smartly been insisting that it was the House of Assembly that removed the chairman. But he is merely trying to be smart by half, for it is clear that the action of the House was like the biblical hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob. The state House of Assembly has not hidden the fact that it is a puppet of the governor. Amaechi should therefore stop hiding behind the House. Just as he is complaining about the Presidency oppressing him for his contrary views, he should also stop oppressing the Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA for his contrary views. It is said that he who comes into equity must come with clean hands. In addition, going to the House with his security aides on the day of the crisis showed how meddlesome he is in the affairs of the House. He represents the executive arm of government, while the House represents the legislative arm, with the judiciary completing the tripod. The governor had no business going there. All reports received on the matter as well as the video evidence showed that his going to the House helped to aggravate the crisis. The third party to this crisis is Wike. It is shameful that at a time the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and the Academic Staff Union of Universities are both on a strike action, the Minister of State for Education is more concerned about power tussle in his home state. His choice of words, as well as his tone, mien and body language any time he speaks on the crisis or Amaechi usually lack decorum. He needs to carry himself with more dignity in line with his office. Similarly, the anti-Amaechi lawmakers were reckless in their purported impeachment of the Speaker. Five members cannot impeach or elect a Speaker in a House of 32 legislators. We only witnessed such a mockery of democracy during President Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure when the Mallam Nuhu Ribadu-led Economic and Financial Crimes Commission used state legislators in such a manner to remove governors, whom the law courts subsequently returned to office. Also, the police have been accused by Amaechi of being partisan in the crisis, a claim the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, has denied. If indeed the police are biased, it is unjustifiable. Even though the police are run by the Federal Government, they are not meant to be biased, especially against the state governor, who is identified as the number one security officer of his state. Finally, the country's image has been battered by many acts of public and private individuals. Engaging in a crisis of personal interest at a time the nation is crying out for more attention is synonymous with the story of Nero fiddling while Rome burned. | Prophesy: I AM SEEING A REVOULTION - PROPHET T.B. JOSHUA Posted: 16 Jul 2013 04:14 AM PDT ![]() I am seeing a revolution. I am seeing people take to the street. At the beginning of that protest, it might be stopped. Eventually, it will become so big that it cannot be stopped. The Way Out: Job creation for the youth and the creation of a new social value system. This is because 90% of youth believe that it is by becoming political thugs that they could be successful, especially because those in the political offices do not want to retire in politics and become statesmen. The youth, no matter the education they have, feel they have no place in politics and there is no job to keep them busy. There must be new orientation. In politics, the youth should be considered for important positions such as assistants to the elders. While the elders are ministers, the youth could be junior ministers. This little example of being junior ministers can change the situation of things. Tell your presidents - in every department of government or politics, the youth should be junior assistants to the heads of such departments. A good example - The chairman of the political party in your country could be an elder while a youth should be a junior chairman under him as the second in command. In all appointments in the departments of politics or administration, youth should be considered as second in command. By doing this, we are training them to take over tomorrow. This is because they are leaders tomorrow. This is a message to the whole world. This is because revolution is a weapon of change that is coming. This is the vision I saw. Revolution is coming when people will take to the street because life has no value anymore to the people out there. Any nation that will start it now, will avert the coming revolution. Carry your youth along in your politics and administration especially in ruling your country. I have said it; none of these will go without being fulfilled. Read about me and my track record; this is the voice of God. I realised that my messages right from the beginning of my ministry were never believed until they came to pass. I want you to believe this before it happens because it would be disastrous. When we carry the youth along, whenever there is a revolt or situation, they will be available to readily speak to their colleagues and peace will be maintained. The youth want to see themselves represented in every area of life. God bless your nation, God bless the whole world, peace be unto your nations. Those who cry peace to us, prophesy nothing but smooth things. Those who cry peace to you, victory be to you, all is well, unlimited favour, prophesy nothing but smooth things. As surely as God lives, I (T.B. Joshua) will tell you only what God says. If I am hated, persecuted and intimidated because of my accurate prophetic utterances - Blessed be to God who gives the prophecy! As truth was older than terror so it will survive it, it got the start and it will get the race. The day will declare who is in the right and who is in the wrong, says the Lord. When God gives being to the Word, that Word becomes alive. You can speak Word without being but God Himself gives life to the Word. What God says is final. God has all men's hearts in His hands and turns them as He pleases to serve His purpose contrary to their own first intentions. I am talking to your country. Let's pray that God should give our leaders and people in positions a hearing heart. If this is done, you will still see signs, you will still see protests but those protests will not turn into a revolution. Our youth are more educated than our elders because they are exposed to modern day technology. The coming ominous signs are disastrous. I am talking to the whole world. | WICKEDNESS: Mother Roasts Her 7-Year-Old Son's Hand in Lagos (PHOTOS) Posted: 16 Jul 2013 04:07 AM PDT ![]() The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs Aminot Otun, for roasting the right hand of her seven-year-old step-son, Awwal Otun, last Thursday. Awwal's hand was allegedly roasted for adding drops of liquid disinfectant to his bath water. According to Ngozi Ekwerike-Okoro, President, Child to Child Network, a Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, a distressed call from one of Otun's neighbours at 59, Suenu Street, Surulere, Lagos saved Awwal's life. Awwal was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital at Gbaja where another drama ensued as the doctor on duty refused to treat or admit the boy despite pleas that the hospital was built purposely for mothers and children in the state. According to his teachers, Awwal, who is in primary one, should not be allowed to go back to his step-mother because he is always coming to school with bruises as the neighbours who pleaded anonymity said that had been the normal punishment for the boy's mistakes. Awwal was later taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment and he is currently at Juvenile Welfare Centre of Alakara Police Station. ![]() The story According to Ngozi, "On July 11, 2013, Awwal was rushed to the Randle General Hospital, Mother and Child Centre, Gbaja, at about 6:30pm after a distress call from neighbours. "He sustained serious injuries from fire burns inflicted on him by the step-mother who is now in police custody. "At the hospital, we requested to see the welfare officer who we were told had closed for the day but after narrating our mission to one of the staff she referred us to the chief matron. The chief matron issued an emergency card to the boy and directed him to see the doctor. "The doctor, however, refused to attend to the boy, because according to her, the hospital did not have enough space to accommodate the boy, as he would need admission for intensive care. "We pleaded with the doctor to at least administer some first aid on the boy but she refused. We went back to the chief matron who told us after consulting with the doctor that Surulere General Hospital (Mother and Child Centre) does not have the facility to deal with such cases. They said our best chance would be to go to Ikeja General Hospital. "We eventually left in disappointment and went to a private hospital in Mushin, close to the juvenile centre, where he got immediate attention and was treated free of charge. Awwal recounts ordeal The boy said he added small quantity of Izal disinfectant to his bath water and his step mother got angry and put his hand on a burning stove since Sunday and he was not taken to hospital till Thursday when neighbours called the Lagos State Child Protection Network who mobilised the JWC Alakara to rescue him. | ||||

| See Hospital where women are charged N800 every time they scream during childbirth Posted: 16 Jul 2013 03:52 AM PDT ![]() The shocking discovery was made by a U.S. group that campaigns against corruption, as it released its annual Global Corruption Barometer. At the hospital in Zimbabwe, one of the poorest countries in the world, the fine was said to be for 'raising a false alarm', according to Transparency International. Women who were unable to pay the fine were allegedly kept in the hospital until their families could pay. Interest was also added to the fines, according to the Washington Post. Many mothers already avoid hospital deliveries in the African nation because of the $50 cost, which is about the third of the average $150 income. In a country where nearly 95 per cent of the population is unemployed after years of economic turmoil and corruption under President Mugabe, and where one in eight women die in childbirth every day, the fines could rob a woman of a year's salary. A survey of Zimbabweans found 65 per cent believed the country's medical services to be corrupt. When Transparency International contacted Zimbabwe's deputy prime minister, he ordered an investigation and since then no further reports of fines have been made. However, the $50 delivery charge remains. The campaign group has now set up workshops in Zimbabwe to raise awareness about corruption and show citizens how to record officials demanding bribes so they can provide evidence to the courts.
