Zimmerman Not Guilty of murdering Trayvon Martin, but he's not innocent Posted: 14 Jul 2013 06:52 PM PDT I love law, I love order. I am a fan of the usually dependable American criminal justice system, and my trust in the system has not changed. However, I'll be lying if I say I'm not disappointed at the outcome of the Zimmerman trial on the murder of Trayvon Martin. From the jury that was selected, and the fact that Zimmerman seemed to have more and better coached witnesses, it looked like it may come to this "Not Guilty" verdict. Still, Zimmerman is not innocent, and he knows it. He had a gun, Trayvon Martin was unarmed, and Zimmerman still stalked him against the advise of police phone operators who told him to stand down. This is not stand your ground, this is a killing a young boy for no just cause. I want to believe all hope isn't lost. I may be wrong, but the case could still go to appeal, and Zimmerman may yet face civil charges and an investigation by the US Justice Department under civil rights law. A lot of high profile personalities and African American celebs have spoken out, condemning the judgment or simply experssing dismay, but they've also urged everyone to shun more violence and so far any protests have been calm and peaceful. Obama joined his voice in this statement. "The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that's a job for all of us. That's the way to honor Trayvon Martin." I agree that the gun laws and the violence that follows when people own and use guns is part of the problem in this case. Even though the Sandy Hook deaths and how little they were able to affect gun laws remain fresh in my memory, my hope is that gun lovers are taking note. Many are alleging racism, but the ownership and reckless use of guns cut across the racial divide. It is time America faces this issue head on. Trayvon Martin is at peace now, and I pray God console his family at this trying time of watching their son's killer go free. |
Cheesy But True - 10 Ways To Know Someone is Interested in You Posted: 14 Jul 2013 06:51 PM PDT In romance novels or movies, they are considered cliche, but the truth is that just as art imitates life, life also imitates art. I have personally experienced a lot of these behaviors from those who were interested in me, and the stories abound from friends who ended up married to those same people who exhibited some of the following ways of showing when you're interested in someone. These are; 1. Stealing glances and then looking away: The nazrein milana nazrein churana that Bollywood films have made famous is a common indicator of the fact that someone is interested in you. The Wife Material Syndrome - Cooking, Cleaning, No Clubbing? Posted: 14 Jul 2013 06:52 PM PDT In this episode of her vlog series, Toke Makinwa talks about the "wife material syndrome" - women who think they have to behave in very specific ways before the man they're dating will propose. She uses the more common "domestic and homely" examples like cooking, cleaning, and no-clubbing which some Nigerian men and women seem to think is the be all and end all of what makes a woman a wife. Watch and share your thoughts. |
The Beverly Osu Episode With Angelo Had a General Showing? Posted: 14 Jul 2013 06:37 PM PDT If I start a new hashtag #nigeriansboycottBBA on Twitter and Facebook, will it go viral? I just read from Eya who watches the Big Brother Show from Nigeria and she writes that the manual intercourse between Beverly Osu and Angelo from South Africa which seem to have angered lots of Nigerians at home and abroad was on general viewing. I thought people watched it on the VIP and now coming to show their hypocrisy, but it seems Big Brother knows what makes them money. The sense I get is that this years series named The Chase is all about relationships and hookups, even much more than the previous ones. If Africans and Nigerians, the biggest viewers of the series were as prudish as the outrage on Twitter would have us believe, I think this wouldn't be so, as Multichoice knows their audience better than anyone. As for those lambasting Beverly, please just stop. It makes me want to laugh when I see the comments about how she was extra shameful for moaning in pleasure. OMG, do these people not enjoy sex in their own lives? So keeping quiet during sex makes her a better woman, more righteous or what? Don't even get me started on those who close their eyes to the fault of the BBA producers or the guy in the equation. At least Eya shares the blame very fairly. For those still vexing. Don't hug transformer, don't jump in the lagoon, and don't just vent on twitter, add the hashtag #nigeriansboycottBBAfrica. And even more, stop watching DSTV as a whole. If you cannot do this, just zip it. |

AY's Crib Episode 2: House Girl Wanted Posted: 14 Jul 2013 01:07 AM PDT This was much funnier to me than the first episode. Some people seem to like the gateman a lot, but I prefer the dichotomy between down to earth AY and his head in the clouds girlfriend. Enjoy... |

Couple Love - Tina Turner and Erwin Bach Posted: 14 Jul 2013 06:54 PM PDT The news broke a few days ago that 73-year-old Tina Turner would soon get married to her boyfriend, Erwin Bach who was 57 years. Not only is she 16years older than he is, they've been dating for 27 years. What really made me amazed was thinking, wow, he must have been 30 when they started dating. Everyone probably thought it was a fling, but here they are, almost three decades later, longer together than a lot of marriages, and from these pictures, very happy together. I wish them more years, and may the marriage bind them in more love. |
